单元话题精练
一、U1单元话题:时代变迁
(23-24八年级下·江苏镇江·期中)Villages in China have enjoyed their development in a digital (数字) way in recent years. With the help of digital technology (技术), villagers are living an easier and happier life.
Farming in the past was not an easy job. Farmers worked hard all year round. At the same time, they usually found it difficult to solve problems like plant diseases and pest (害虫). Now, there have been big changes in farming. For example, in Dayi County, Sichuan Province, AI machines help local farmers know when and how to fertilize (施肥) and kill pests. In this way, they make farmers work more easily with less time and energy.
Thanks to the Internet, a new business called rural e-commerce (乡村电子商务) grows. Selling fresh fruit and vegetables to cities is faster. The business also helps villagers live a digital life. They can get many things done on different kinds of apps. They can also use drones to help with their farm work.
More visitors travel in beautiful villages because of digital technology. A good example is Huacheng Town, Guangdong Province. Visitors can know where to park their cars for free, when to book a ticket easily and what to buy online. They can also enjoy the view of nearly every part of the town by using VR.
1.According to Paragraph 2, we know AI machines can help farmers ________.
A.water the crops
B.harvest the crops
C.know when and where to fertilize
D.save time and energy on farming
2.What is the structure of this passage? (①= Paragraph 1, ②= Paragraph 2...)
A. B. C. D.
3.What is the best title of this passage?

(23-24八年级下·江苏南通·期中)Improvements in technology often happen overnight. Some gadgets get smaller and faster. Others are replaced (代替) by newer things like smartphones. Here are some old gadgets that people used to use. ①
Do you have a landline at home? These are phones that people plug (插入) into their living room walls. Mobile phones didn’t use to be so popular at that time, so most families had a landline. But landlines only worked at home. What did people do when they were outside and needed to call someone? They looked for a pay phone! Then, most people had their own mobile phones and many homes no longer had landlines. ②
People today store plenty of information online, or on SD cards. But in the 1980s and 1990s, people used to use floppy disks. The first floppy disks were large, expensive, and not very useful—each disk could store just 175 KB of information! Later, floppy disks got smaller and better. But even the best ones could only hold 1.44 MB.You would need three or four disks just for one song, and about 22,000 disks to match the storage (储存空间) available on a 32 GB phone! ③
It’s easy to take photos today. People often have thousands just on their phones! But photos used to cost much, and people took fewer of them. To take a photo, you had to buy a roll of film. This allowed you to take up to 30 photos. After finishing the roll, you left it at a shop. The shop developed the photos to make them be seen, which you could collect after a few days.
Technology changes all the time, and the gadgets we use today will one day be old. What do you think will be next to disappear (消失)?
1.What is the title of each paragraph?

The journey began early in the morning. We packed our car with camping gear (护具), snacks, and clothes for the cooler weather. The driver took us through winding roads and beautiful landscapes. As we got closer to the mountains, the air became fresher, and the scenery more breathtaking.
When we arrived at the cabin, we were greeted by the sound of birds singing and the smell of pine trees. The cabin was comfortable and had a lovely view of the mountains. We spent the first day setting up camp and exploring (探索) the nearby trails (小路). The trails were full of nice waterfalls and valleys.
On the second day, we decided to hike to the top of a nearby peak. The hike was long and tiring, but the view from the top was worth every step. We could see for miles, with the mountains stretching out in all directions. It was one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen.
In the evening, we gathered around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories. The night sky was clear, and we could see millions of stars. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

You may think this kind of journey can only be possible in these years by modern transport. But in fact, volunteer travel dates back to 1958. At that time, Alec Dickson and his wife Mora from the UK started Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO)—an organization (机构) providing volunteer work all over the world.
In the past, volunteer travel usually took place in foreign countries. However, more people have taken part in volunteer trips in their own countries in recent years. According to (根据) Sanlian Lifeweek magazine, volunteer trips to the countryside are attractive to people living in the city. They hope to take a rest from the fast and busy city life by doing some volunteer work in villages.
Volunteer travel helps city people get a taste of village life. Many people are bored with the busy life in the city. They often say to themselves, “Do I need to move to the countryside for a quiet life?” Volunteer travel may help them find out the answer. What’s more, volunteer travel helps local people improve their lives. When more tourists visit the villages, they can get more jobs and make more money.
Volunteer travel can not only show kindness to people in need, but also help people get different life experiences (经历). Why not have a try next time?

(23-24八年级下·江苏南通·期末)Long long ago, there was a piece of wood. It was not an expensive piece of wood. Just a common block of firewood, one of those thick legs that are put on the fire to make cold rooms warm.
I do not know how this really happened, one fine day this piece of wood found itself in the shop of an old carpenter (木匠). Everyone called him Mastro Cherry, for the tip of his nose was so round and red that it looked like a ripe cherry.
As soon as he saw that piece of wood, Mastro Cherry was filled with joy. Rubbing his hands together happily, he said to himself, “This has come in time. I’m in need of a leg of the table.” But as he was about to give it the first blow, he stood still with arm uplifted, for he had heard a little voice say, “Please be careful! Do not hit me so hard!” What a surprise!
He tried to find out where that voice had come from and he saw no one! He looked under the bench—no one! He searched the room—no one! He opened the door to look around the street—and still no one!
“Oh, I see!” he then said, laughing and shaking his head. “There may be something wrong with my ears.”
“Well, well—to work once more.” He struck another blow hard on the piece of wood.
“Oh, oh!You hurt me!” cried the same far-away little voice.
Mastro Cherry’s mouth opened wide, turned frightened eyes and his tongue hung down on his chin (下巴). “Where did that voice come from? This piece of wood has learned to cry like a child? Here it is—a piece of common firewood, the same as any other. Yet—might someone be hidden in it? If so, the worse for him. I’ll fix him!” With these words, he started to knock it. He threw it to the floor, against the walls, and even up to the ceiling.
He listened for the tiny voice to cry. He waited two minutes—nothing; five minutes—nothing; ten minutes—nothing. “Oh, I see,” he said, trying bravely to laugh and touching his hair. “Well, well—to work once more!” So he tried to sing a merry song to get power, and worked on.
“Stop it! Oh, stop it!You tickle my stomach.” This time poor Mastro Cherry fell as if shot. When he opened his eyes, he found himself sitting on the floor.

(23-24八年级下·江苏徐州·期中)I hoped to be set free one day so I was nice to the local people. Gradually (逐渐地) they lost their fear of me. Sometimes the children even played hide and seek in my hair. One day, the king invited me to attend an important show. A thin rope was tied between two poles (柱子) very high above the ground. The people who wanted the best jobs had to dance on this rope. Each dancer tried to jump higher than the others. I had never seen such a dangerous sport.
Although many dancers may fall and be hurt or killed, the king thought the most important job should be given to the bravest and skilled dancer. What a strange way! Then when the king watched, I tied each corner of my handkerchief (手帕) to a strong stick. I pushed the four sticks into the ground. My handkerchief was now under the rope but above the ground. “Your majesty,” I said, “any dancer who falls will now land on my handkerchief and not get hurt.” “You are a wise big one”, said the king. I gently put them on my hand and held it beside the rope so they had a good view of the dancers. One very skilled performer turned several cart wheels (车轮) on the road.

1.What is the title of each paragraph?
a. Goodbye Disks b. Music to my Ears c. Picture This
d. Call Me e. Film Development
A.①—d; ②—b; ③—e B.①—d; ②—a; ③—c
C.①—c; ②—a; ③—b D.①—c; ②—b; ③—e
2.What can we get from the passage?
A.No homes had landlines now.
B.Floppy disks could store much information.
C.You could take 40 photos with a roll of film.
D.The improvements in technology change people’s life.
3.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.The Changing Phones B.The Gadgets of Tomorrow
C.The Gadgets We are Using D.The Tools We Used to Use
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.D
【导语】本文主要介绍了人们过去常用的旧工具。

【导语】本文节选自童话故事《匹诺曹》,本文主要讲述了老木匠发现了一块木头,当他要做桌腿时,却发现不断有说话声传出来。
1.细节理解题。根据第三段“Please be careful! Do not hit me so hard!”和第七段“ ‘Oh, oh! You hurt me! ’cried the same far-away little voice.”以及最后一段”Stop it! Oh, stop it! You tickle my stomach.”可知,木头一共说了三次话。故选B。
2.词义猜测题。根据第六段“ ‘Well, well—to work once more.’ He struck another blow hard on the piece of wood.”可知,他是狠狠地……那块木头。所以blow意为“狠狠地打”。故选A。
根据“As soon as he saw that piece of wood, Mastro Cherry was filled with joy... What a surprise!”以及“Mastro Cherry’s mouth opened wide, turned frightened eyes and his tongue hung down on his chin (下巴).”可知,他一看到那块木头,就欣喜若狂,接着惊讶;随后张大了嘴,惊恐地转过眼睛。故这个男人的感情变化是高兴—惊讶—害怕。故选A。
Later that king made this man one of his chief advisers.
One day, I said again, “Your majesty, please set me free.” This time he answered, “I will set you free, if you make six promises (承诺):
·You must help my country in the coming war.
·Before you visit the capital, you must give two hours warning. And my people can get out of the streets.
·You mustn’t knock or step on my people or their animals.
·You must carry important messages for me quickly to anywhere in Lilliput.
·You must help my workers carry heavy objects (物品).
·You must not leave the kingdom without my permission (允许).
“I promise!” I told the king. “Then you may have your freedom. You can travel all over Lilliput and I am sure you will find it the most beautiful one you have ever seen.” he said.

(23-24八年级下·江苏连云港·期末)Mary went to see Colin the next morning. He looked sad and tired and his face was white. Mary knew that this was the moment to tell him everything.
“Can I trust you?” Mary asked.
“Yes—yes!” he whispered.
“Dickon is coming to see you tomorrow. And also … I … I found the door into the secret garden.”
Colin’s eyes grew bigger and bigger.
Mary went on, “Colin, we’re going to take you there!”
The next day, a strong servant (仆人) carried Colin downstairs and put him in his wheelchair. Dickon was waiting for him outside. Dickon pushed the wheelchair slowly and carefully. Mary walked next to it. They went across the lawn to the long road near the wall.
“This is where I walked up and down looking for the door,” whispered Mary. They walked a bit further then Mary whispered again: “The robin flew over the wall here. And there,” she said, pointing under a big bush in the flower bed, “is where I found the key”.
Then Dickon stopped pushing the chair.
“And look!” Mary moved the ivy branch (常春藤树枝). “Here is the door. Dickon, push him in—push him in quickly!”

In the grass under the trees there were flowers—gold and purple and white. The trees were covered in pink and white flowers. The sun was warm on his face. Mary and Dickon looked at him. He looked different. His face was pink, not white.
“Mary! Dickon! I'm going to get well!” Colin suddenly cried. “And I’m going to live forever and ever!”
Dickon pushed his wheelchair slowly round and round the garden. He often stopped to show Colin something—green buds(嫩芽), a feather, an empty eggshell.
“I’m going to come back tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after,” said Colin.
