You may think that taking care of chickens is easy, but sometimes chickens have minds of their own. If you are considering getting chickens, there are a few things you need to know. Chickens have something we call the pecking order (啄食顺序). It is the ranking (排位) of all the chickens. The order goes from the strongest, biggest chicken, to the smallest, weakest chicken. The chickens find out this order on their own. Putting chickens together is not easy. You have to make sure they all eat the same food. Otherwise, you have to keep them apart. You must pay more attention to baby chicks. You need to feed very good food to them, so they stay healthy. You also need a place for them to stay in your house and a special feeder and water holder. You can get day-old chicks, or you can get chicks that are 6 months and older. Also, you should remember to clean the pen (鸡图), so neighbors don’t complain. You just have to know what you are doing and always be prepared. Chickens can bring families together. They are fun and humorous, beautiful and loving. They are also smart. It’s amazing how quickly they learn things on their own. So, if you’re ready for a fun and beneficial experience, raising chickens might just be the perfect fit for you and your family. 29. The author likes feeding the seven chickens by ______. A. giving them names B. putting them together C. cooking the same food D. keeping them apart 30. What mainly decides the order in which chickens eat? A. Living place. B. Colour. C. Body size. D. Age. 31. What suggestion do you think the author will possibly make according to the text? A. Why not consider getting some of your own feathered friends? B. How about providing the clean and safe hens near neighbors? C. You’d better learn more about how quickly they learn things. D. Let’s find the happiness of looking after the fun and smart ones. 32. Which can be the best title of the text above? A. Three must-dos for keeping friends B. The joy of keeping chickens at home C. Useful tips for keeping pets healthy D. A special feeder for baby chickens D In December 2020, the “quiet carriage (车厢)” service was first introduced on some trains of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway and the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway. Up to June 2024, this service has covered the Beijing-Guangzhou, Beijing-Harbin, Shanghai-Kunming and other high-speed railways. The “quiet carriages” have silent videos and announcements made at a low volume (音量). Doors at both ends of the carriage are closed to reduce noise from outside. During the trip, passengers must wear earphones or turn off loudspeakers when using electronic devices (电子设备). They also need to leave their seats to make or answer calls, and their phones should be set to silent or vibrate mode (振动模式). For those travelling with children, they must take care of them and keep them quiet. Mr. Li, a Chengdu local, said, “I make at least one round trip a week between Chengdu and Chongqing for work. I sometimes need to focus on my work or get some rest during the hour-long trip. The ‘quiet carriage’ is a good choice for me.” “When I booked the tickets, I first saw the choice for the ‘quiet carriage’, and I wanted to give it a shot,” said Miss Mou, who took the train from Beijing to Shanghai. “When I went into the carriage for the first time, signs reminding passengers to keep quiet were everywhere, and it was really much quieter than the other carriages.” Experts say that the “quiet carriage!” service provides passengers with more value-added choices. It not only helps passengers to follow public order, but also creates a more civilized (文明的) travelling environment. 33. How does the author begin the article to get your interest in the “quiet carriage” service? A. By telling a personal story. B. By giving lots of examples. C. By explaining when and where the service started. D. By comparing it to other train services in each city. 34. What is the main idea of the second paragraph? A. The history of high-speed rail services. B. The introduction of a new travelling way. C. The importance of people’s behavior. D. The rules that make the carriages quiet. 35. The underlined words “give it a shot” have the similar meaning with ______. A. enjoy myself B. have a try C. give up D. pay for it 36. Why do experts think the “quiet-carriage” service is valuable? A. It can help passengers focus on the work and rest better. B. It has signs reminding people to keep quiet everywhere. C. It is a good choice for those who often make round trips. D. It encourages order and a civilized travel environment. The winter break is over. You might feel sad or even a little worried about the school life. As the Nobel organization said, they “have used tools from Physics to develop methods that are necessary for today’s machine learning”. Hopfield was mentioned especially for inventing a “Hopfield network” based on Physics. Hinton, 76, used Hopfield’s network to create a different one, known as the Boltzmann machine. The two AI pioneers will share the award of about 1 million dollars. Hopfield’s long career has included work at Bell Labs and the California Institute of Technology, as well as more than 25 years at Princeton. “An important idea in Physics is that the world can be understood. You can take anything apart and understand the relationships between its different parts. Physics shows us that with hard work and creativity, we can understand the world around us in a scientific way. Being a physicist is a way to go after this kind of understanding,” Hopfield said. 61. Who shared the award of 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics with Hopfield? ________________________ 62. What did John Hopfield invent based on Physics? ________________________ 63. How long did Hopfield work at Princeton? ________________________ 64. Which subject do you think is as important as physics? Write 30 words or more. ________________________ 【答案】61. Geoffrey Hinton. 62. Hopfield network. 63. More than 25 years. 64. I believe mathematics is as important as physics. Mathematics provides the foundational tools and frameworks that enable advancements in physics and other sciences. Without mathematics, the precise modeling and understanding of physical phenomena would be impossible. It is the language of science and essential for innovation.(合理即可) 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道,主要讲述了2024年诺贝尔物理学奖得主John Hopfield及其合作者Geoffrey Hinton在人工神经网络领域的贡献,以及Hopfield的职业生涯和物理学的重要性。 【61题详解】 根据文章第1段“John Hopfield, 91 years old, has received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics.
