(2022·福州高三月考)What do you want to be when you are growing up? A doctor, an engineer—or maybe a footballer or actor? We all have big plans for our futures and believe there is a dream job waiting for us—one that will pay well and give great job satisfaction. But how realistic is that?
Today, in the UK at least, young people are being warned that some of their career hopes and dreams don't match the types of jobs available. Research by the charity Education and Employers suggests five times as many 17 and 18 yearolds in the UK want to work in art, culture, entertainment and sport than there are jobs.
The excitement of working in these employment sectors(部门) is obviously an attraction. But those looking for these types of job will be disappointed. That's what the report,Disconnected: Career ambitions and jobs in the UK, says. Writing about this for the BBC, Katherine Sellgren points out that although young people are keen to work in art, entertainment, culture and sport, the economy is unlikely to need them all. At the same time, there is a shortfall of young people wanting to work in careers such as catering and retail(零售).
Previous research about the career ambitions of young people by the Office for National Statistics also found a “reality_gap” between their dreams and the sometimes disappointing truth by the time they reached their early to late20s. Apart from those who aimed to go into teaching, fewer than one in 50 were in the jobs they had wanted—such as a doctor, vet, firefighter or actor. Most were working as sales assistants, careers or in sales and marketing.
Although it's good to have ambitions, the aims of young people need to be realistic. This latest report suggests that children need to be made more aware of a wider variety of occupations at a younger age. It also calls for improved career advice in secondary schools. A spokeswoman for the Department for Work and Pensions told the BBC that “early careers advice can help young people set out on the right path to the job that channels their interests and unlocks their potential”.
[语篇解读] 本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了一项研究发现:在英国许多年轻人的职业抱负和现实工作之间脱节,呼吁年轻人的目标需要现实一点。

(2022·山东泰安高二下期末)Frank Williams was a giant of Formula One (一级方程式), but hiding beneath all the success the British racing legend's life was touched by tragedy.
The courage, energy and determination with which he dealt with this cruel roll of fate drew admiration from his family, friends, colleagues and the wider public. With Patrick Head he created one of the greatest Formula One teams of all time. Williams captured seven drivers' titles, while the team's nine constructors' crowns places Williams second only to mighty Ferrari(法拉利).
His noted wisdom and charm, perseverant spirit served him well on his journey from being a trainee salesman earning 10 pounds a week, to the peak of the highquality world of F1. He established Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1966, competing in F3 and F2, and F1 with a borrowed racing car from 1969.
The first allWilliams built F1 car had an inauspicious start, when with Henri Pescarolo at the wheel, it was destroyed in a crash in 1972. With funding an everpresent problem and having lost control of his company he left, with Head, to set up the team that is still racing today, in 1977.
Clay Regazzoni drove a Cosworthpowered Williams to its first F1 success, fittingly at the British Grand Prix, in 1979. Australian Alan Jones won the team's first drivers' title the following season.
Williams also collected the constructors' championship that year. Keke Rosberg took the 1982 title, with five more captured in a golden period between 1987 and 1997, all after Williams' illfated 1986 crash to catch a flight in France that led to the car crash.
Williams had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
“But life has to go on,” he said. “I was able to continue in the business I was already in.” Not for the first time personal suffering failed to decrease Williams' singlemindedness to succeed, with Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve capturing the 1996 and 1997 world championships. He was knighted(封爵) in 1999 and became Sir Frank.
Williams died on November 28, aged 79.

Ⅲ.读后续写
It was Saturday and I was lying in bed daydreaming about what I wanted to do today when Dad just called me to get up at seven o'clock. I wanted to stay at home and play my favourite games. I wanted to listen to some music and then play football with my friends. I wanted to hang out with my friends and watch a movie. I wanted to enjoy a big meal in the restaurant and chat with my friends till midnight.
At 7:30, Dad was again shouting at me to get up. So, I got up, put some casual clothes on and lay in the sofa in the sitting room for a little bit.
My dad walked in, urging me to put on some nice clothes that were suitable for me to walk around on such a hot day. I asked, “Why should I do that? I won't go out. I'm just staying at home. I have a lot of businesses to deal with.” Looking me directly in the eyes, Dad told me something about the place called Give Kids the World. It was designed for the families to spend a vacation with their children who had a very serious illness. About four years ago, my dad became a volunteer, doing several jobs there, including serving food and giving gifts. I thought that would be very boring, but Dad insisted that I should go with him, promising that I would like it.
Though I was unwilling, I still got dressed and went into the car. Dad drove me to a village not very far from our community. When we arrived at the storehouse in the middle of the village, there were already some people sorting out the food and gifts. We immediately joined them, putting the food into boxes and the gifts on the back of a cart.

[参考范文]
Paragraph 1:
Then, Dad told me that we were going to deliver a toy to every child from door to door in the village. We came to the first house and a woman answered the door. Sitting in the middle of the living room was a little boy in a wheelchair. I gave him the gift, and his face lit up with joy. In another house, I met a girl who was deaf and only partially sighted. Seeing the gift, she got excited and made a sign with her hands, which, her mom said, was the sign for thanks.
Paragraph 2:
Once back in that cart, Dad told me that they all had a lifethreatening illness and that they might not live to see tomorrow. Suddenly, I realized I should be more thankful that I didn't have these illnesses. I no longer want to enjoy myself at home, play football or watch movies with my friends. I now go to the village regularly and I have even taken my friends along. We would much rather be doing this, seeing things that not a lot of people really get to see and making a difference in these kids' lives.
