Swedish businessman Nile Bergqvist is delighted with his new hotel, the world's first igloo hotel. Built in a small town in Lapland, it has been attracting lots of visitors, but soon the fun will be over. In two weeks' time Bergqvist's ice creation (作品) will be nothing more than a pool of water. “We don't see it as a big problem,” he says. “We just look forward to replacing it.” Bergqvist built his first igloo in 1991 for an art exhibition. It was so successful that he designed the present one, which measures roughly 200 square meters. Six workmen spent more than eight weeks piling 1,000 tons of snow onto a wooden base: when the snow froze, the base was removed. “The only wooden thing we have left in the igloo is the front door,” he says. After their stay, all visitors receive a survival certificate recording their success. With no windows, nowhere to hang clothes and temperatures below 0 ℃, it may seem more like a survival test than a relaxing hotel break. “It's great fun,” Bergqvist explains, “as well as a good start in survival training.” The popularity of the igloo is beyond doubt: it is now attracting tourists from all over the world. At least 800 people have stayed at the igloo this season even though there are only 10 rooms. “You can get a lot of people in,” explains Bergqvist. “The beds are three meters wide by two meters long, and can fit at least four at one time.” 1.What inspired Bergqvist to create the world's first igloo hotel? A.Growing demand for more hotel rooms. B.People's curiosity about new things. C.His being fond of living in a small town. D.An art exhibition to be held. 根据第一段中的“Holidaymakers who are bored with baking beaches ... the world's first igloo hotel.” B。 2.What does “the fun will be over” mean in Paragraph 1? A.Hotel guests will lose interest soon. B.A more fascinating one will replace the old one. C.The igloo will turn into a pool of water. D.No visitors will come here. 根据第二段第一句“In two weeks' time ... a pool of water.(两周后,伯格奎斯特创造的冰屋将变成一摊水。)”可推知,“the fun will be over”指的是冰屋两周后就会化成一摊水。故选C。 3.Why did the writer say it was more like a survival test than a relaxing hotel break? A.The igloo may melt and fall down. B.You may lose your life. C.Because its condition is extremely poor. D.You have nothing to eat. C。 4.What may be people's feeling of staying in the igloo? A.Horrible. B.Regretful. C.Comfortable. D.Excited. 根据最后一段中的“The popularity of the igloo is beyond doubt ... all over the world.(冰屋的受欢迎程度是毋庸置疑的:它现在正吸引着来自世界各地的游客。)” B (2023·全国乙卷)Living in Iowa and trying to become a photographer specializing in landscape (风景) can be quite a challenge, mainly because the corn state lacks geographical variation. Although landscapes in the Midwest tend to be quite similar, either farm fields or highways, sometimes I find distinctive character in the hills or lakes. To make some of my landscape shots, I have traveled up to four hours away to shoot within a 10-minute time frame. I tend to travel with a few of my friends to state parks or to the countryside to go on adventures and take photos along the way. Being at the right place at the right time is decisive in any style of photography. I often leave early to seek the right destinations so I can set up early to avoid missing the moment I am attempting to photograph. I have missed plenty of beautiful sunsets/sunrises due to being on the spot only five minutes before the best moment. One time my friends and I drove three hours to Devil's Lake, Wisconsin, to climb the purple quartz (石英) rock around the lake. After we found a crazy-looking road that hung over a bunch of rocks, we decided to photograph the scene at sunset. The position enabled us to look over the lake with the sunset in the background. We managed to leave this spot to climb higher because of the spare time until sunset. However, we did not mark the route (路线) so we ended up almost missing the sunset entirely. Once we found the place, it was stressful getting lights and cameras set up in the limited time. Still, looking back on the photos, they are some of my best shots though they could have been so much better if I would have been prepared and managed my time wisely. 5.How does the author deal with the challenge as a landscape photographer in the Midwest? A.By teaming up with other photographers. B.By shooting in the countryside or state parks. C.By studying the geographical conditions. D.By creating settings in the corn fields. 根据第二段中的“I tend to travel ... take photos along the way.” B。 6.What is the key to successful landscape photography according to the author? A.Proper time management. B.Good shooting techniques. C.Adventurous spirit. D.Distinctive styles. 根据第三段中的“Being at the right place at the right time is decisive in any style of photography.(任何风格的摄影,在正确的时间出现在正确的地点都是关键的。)” A。 7.What can we infer from the author's trip with friends to Devil's Lake? A.They went crazy with the purple quartz rock. B.They felt stressed while waiting for the sunset. C.They reached the shooting spot later than expected. D.They had problems with their equipment. 根据最后一段中的“However, we did not mark the route (路线) so we ended up almost missing the sunset entirely. (然而,我们没有标出路线,所以我们几乎完全错过了日落。)”可推知,在恶魔湖之旅中,作者和朋友到达拍摄地点的时间比预期的要晚。故选C。 8.How does the author find his photos taken at Devil's Lake? A.Amusing. B.Satisfying. C.Encouraging. D.Comforting. 【持续背记】 ①In ancient days, when two friends part, the traveling one will always receive a willow twig as a gift. ②Her spirit inspires me and millions of other girls to live an independent life and be responsible for our own decisions. ③People experience ups and downs through life, and hardship is unavoidable.
