food, especially hotpot. But my mother doesn't like it. She prefers some typical Italian dishes like
pizza.
Last Sunday, we went to the restaurant to celebrate my parents' marriage anniversary. The
restaurant was crowded. We had to wait for a while. When we finally got a table, I ordered a snack
and a cup of tea. My father ordered a big hotpot, and my mother ordered a pizza. The food there was
super delicious. We all enjoyed our meal.
After the meal, we went for a walk in the park. There were many maple trees in the park. The
leaves were red and yellow, which looked very beautiful. We took a lot of photos. It was a wonderful

Why do Chinese people love hot pot so much?As the winter months are coming in,more and
more people are sitting around a table enjoying this kind of traditional meal.I find myself wondering
what it is about this traditional meal, which has existed for more than 1,000 years. What makes it a
Chinese food favourite? It seems that the answer lies beyond the dish itself.
Hot pot isn ’ t just designed to keep you warm during the cold months; it ’ s also a social
experience. It ’s a “theater” cooked food that turns a meal into an event. There is a lot of fun for
everyone to have in adding some foods to the hot pot.
Hot pot is eaten over two to three hours. For this reason,it is often considered an evening ’s
entertainment, and a time to spend with friends and families. However, many Westerners would be put
off by the idea of other people sticking chopsticks in their food. When we come to eat at the table in
the UK,we often have our own shares, although the experience is still a social one.
A similar experience to the hot pot can be found in Korean barbecue restaurants, which let you
cook your own meat. This allows people to have their meat done however they want.
For most Westerners, the idea of going to a restaurant to cook their own food is very strange. But
having a go,I find it ’s now one of my favourite meals in Beijing. The steam from the pot left my
clothes smelling of food when I got home, but perhaps this was also part of the experience. When the
cold wind is blowing outside,I am sitting around with my good friends, eating and drinking. For me
it’s like a dinner party where my taste buds (味蕾) and my appetite are equally satisfied in the warm
company of friends.
5.What is the main reason why hot pot is popular in China?
A.It has a history of over 1,000 years.

C.It serves people with many kinds of foods.
D.It keeps people very warm in winter
6.We can conclude from the article that British people generally .
A.enjoy cooking their own food in restaurants
B.prefer a Korean barbecue to Chinese hot pot
C.don’t like sharing food with others in restaurants
D.don’t mind the smell of food staying on their clothes
7.What is the author’s attitude to hot pot?
A.Serious. B.Tired. C.Humorous. D.Appreciative.
二、七选五(每题 3分,共 15分)
It is back to school time in much of the world. Calm and easy mornings are replaced with
hurried and busy ones. Children wake up early and get ready for school. Many parents are also
getting ready for work, helping their children and preparing food for lunches. 8.But that may be a
big mistake for students. Whether at home, on the way to school or at school — eating something
healthy for breakfast may help a student get better grades.
9. The answer is yes. Experts at healthy children.org say that in the United States about 8 to
12 percent of all students in grade school do not eat breakfast. By the time students are in high school,

about 20 to 30 percent of them ignore the breakfast.
10. This gives your body the energy you need to think clearly and to remember what you
learn. This was the 2005 finding of researchers at Tufts University in the U.S. They found when it
comes to giving the brain what it needs to work at its highest level — not all breakfasts make the
same effect. The best breakfast should include complex carbohydrates that slowly release energy to
the body. 11. But simply eating a breakfast rich in carbohydrates may make a student tired. So,
adding protein helps to prevent that. Having food such as milk, yogurt, eggs or meat can help
students to feel full longer.
A good breakfast is not just helpful for school-aged children. 12. A study from researchers at
University of Toronto in Canada found that a breakfast rich in protein and complex carbohydrates
increases performance on short- and long-term memory. Carbohydrates and protein are especially
important because they have a major effect on long-term memory.
A.Do many people hate breakfast?
B.Some people ignore breakfast to save time.
C.Lunches are also important for students’ health.
D.Whole grain bread and low-sugar granola are examples.
E. Are there really that many children who do not eat breakfast?
F. We all may gain from eating something healthy in the morning.
G.The best breakfast is a mix of complex carbohydrates, protein and fat.
