Now, I want to tell you about a fantastic new exhibition at the Science Museum. It's called “A Changing World” and is all about global warming.
The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is hundreds of pairs of Wellington boots. Everyone needs to put on a pair of these because the whole exhibition area is flooded with water. The idea is to show what will happen if sea levels continue to rise. It really makes you think!
One of the best displays is the one about the Arctic. In this room there is a huge block of ice, which is slowly becoming liquid. There are also a number of photographs, which show really clearly how the sea ice is disappearing year after year.
As you walk around the exhibition, you'll see that all over the walls there are posters which explain the causes and effects of global warming. The content was written especially for this exhibition by a number of wellknown scientists, so you can be sure you are getting the most uptodate information possible.
At the end of the exhibition there are some computers. You can use these to send emails, either to politicians, telling them what you want them to do, or to a friend. You can let them know what you have learned or give them some advice on what they can do to stop global warming.
It's one of the best exhibitions about global warming that I've ever seen and I recommend it to everyone!
18.What will the visitors have to do first when walking into the museum?
A.Put on boots.
B.Register their names.
C.Talk about the global warming.
答案:A
19.What can the visitors see on all the walls of the museum?
A.Descriptions of the exhibition.
B.Photos of huge blocks of ice.

Twothirds of the world's major rivers have now been disrupted (中断) with more than 50,000 dams in an attempt to store water and provide power. In the US, there are more than 85,000 dams, disrupting large and small rivers and in most cases transforming natural flow. The most famous of these, the Hoover Dam constructed in the 1930s, is mainly responsible for the fact that the Colorado River no longer reaches the ocean.
Dams besides all their attractive benefits, also have negative impacts. Creating a reservoir means a large area must be flooded. Communities may lose their land, houses and cultural relics. Downstream (在下游方向) of a dam, the flow may be reduced so that farmers cannot irrigate (灌溉) their field.
Environmentally, the new reservoir can be a paradise for wildlife especially birds. However, it can cause greenhouse gas emissions (排放) and poison the water for fish. Also, the dramatic rise and fall of water levels during dam releases is too extreme for plains and animals to cope with, resulting in dead zones around the shores of reservoirs. Fish that lay their eggs in the sha Mows, for example, may find a few hours later that those sites are high and dry.
Dams don't just block water flow. The flow may be reduced so that farmers will have great trouble getting water for their fields. They also prevent fish migrations and are a barrier to sediment (沉淀物) flows. Instead of rushing downriver, sediments get backed up against the dam wall, which cause the reservoir level to increase over time. However, sediments which are rich in nutrients have become a problem. The fertility (富饶) of the entire system can be influenced, with soils lost during seasonal rains not being replaced.
Perhaps the biggest problem can be seen in deltas (三角洲) often host to large cities, which are sinking into the oceans. Groundwater is being extracted to feed the city, causing the urban weight to sink and sediments washed away by the ocean are no longer being replaced. The result is that sea level rise in cities from Shanghai to Alexandria.

For some people, running outdoors is a great way to exercise. What may not be so great is seeing trash all over the ground. Well, some people are doing something about it. They are plogging! Plogging began in Sweden in 2016. A Swedish man named Erik Ahlstrom became concerned about the amount of trash and litter he saw each day on his way to work and he began picking up the trash. That is how plogging was born!
Plogging, by that term, may have officially begun in Sweden. But many people who exercise outdoors have been doing this for years. Take Jeff Horowitz for example. He is a personal trainer in Washington,DC. He would often pick up trash while running outside. He even turned it into a game; he would try to pick up the trash without stopping.
Today, plogging is an official activity, one that is becoming increasingly popular. Plogging can build closer social connections in a community, and it can also be fun. When Dana Allen goes plogging around DC, she invites her friends, and they make a day of it. Although Allen enjoys plogging, she doesn't do it all the time. When she is training for a serious marathon race, the trash has to wait.
Cities around the world now hold plogging events. The goal is to spread the idea that littering is not acceptable. Along with cleaning up the environment, there may be another reason to choose plogging. One fitness app, Lifesum, records one hour of plogging as burning 288 calories. Usual jogging burns about 235 calories.
Getting ready to plog is similar to getting ready to jog. Ploggers do some deep knee bends as well as some balancing exercises and then they put on protective gloves. There are other safety rules for plogging. The main one is to plog in areas where there are not too many people. Stopping quickly in front of someone to pick up an empty bag of potato chips, for example, could cause a crash.

31.Why should ploggers choose to plog in less crowded areas?
A.To avoid a crash.
B.To save energy.
C.To pick up more trash.
D.To make it unknown.
答案:A 细节理解题。根据最后一段最后一句“Stopping quickly in front of someone to pick up an empty bag of potato chips, for example, could cause a crash.”可知,不在人口密集的地方进行这种健身方式,目的是避免撞上其他人。故选A。

The world is a greener place than it was 20 years ago. Recent NASA satellites data have shown that human activities in China and India dominate this greening of the planet, thanks to ambitious treeplanting programmes in China and intensive agriculture in both countries.
The researchers from Boston University found that global green leaf area has increased by 5 percent in the new century, an area equal to all of the Amazon rainforest. China alone accounts for 25% of the global net increase in leaf area with only 6.6% of global vegetated area. China's contribution comes in large part from its programmes to conserve and expand forests, taking up about 42 percent of the greening. The greening from farmlands in China is about 32%, but that in India is about 82%.
Rama Nemani, a research scientist at NASA's Ames Research Centre and a coauthor of the study said, “When the greening of the Earth was first observed, we thought it was due to a warmer, wetter climate and fertilization from the added carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. But with data from NASA satellites, scientists realized that humans are also contributing, which was all against our expectations.”
Nemani sees a positive message in the new findings. “Once people realize there is a problem, they tend to fix it,” he said. “In the 1970s and 1980s in India and China, the situation around vegetation loss was not good. In the 1990s, people realized it, and today things have improved. Humans are incredibly resilient. That is what we see in the satellite data.”
However, the researchers rang bells as well. They said that the gain in global greenness did not necessarily make up for the loss of natural vegetation in regions like Brazil and Indonesia.

Dear fellow students,

[精彩范文]
Dear fellow students,
I am Li Hua from Class 1 Grade 1 of Hongxing High School. As we all know, there are various types of environmental problems around us, which greatly affect our life and health. To solve these problems and live a green life, I would like to share some ideas with you.
One of the solutions is to save water and electricity. When you brush your teeth, don't leave the tap running and always remember not to leave the house with lights on.
Another solution is green travel, which is friendly to our environment and contributes to a lowcarbon life. We can also live a green life by sorting garbage. For instance, we can recycle used plastic bottles, glass, paper and metal to turn them into things of value.
I believe that doing all these small things will improve our environment and help make our world a better place to live in. Let's take actions immediately to live green and live better!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Three years ago, I took a trip to Cancun, Mexico with a friend of mine. There we joined the tour “Swimming with Dolphins”. There was huge park where there were several pools in which dolphins swam. I was excited about what would happen next.
We wore swimming suits and were divided into small groups of five to six people. At the pool side, we had a lecture about the dolphins from the advisor who had trained them. All the dolphins had been trained well, and they would do some exercises with us under the control of the advisor.
In the pool, we first started by touching the dolphins. Each of us in turn, walked to a place where the trainer told us to stand and waited for a dolphin to come. When the advisor whistled, the dolphins swam to those points and let us touch them. The back of the dolphin was very smooth, softer than I expected.
The next step was to be kissed by the dolphin. I waited at the point and lowered my face slightly down to the water. After the whistle, the dolphin swam to me and touched my cheek with his beak. That was my first and last time to be kissed by a dolphin.
There were many exercises with the dolphins. For example, I swam by gripping the back fins of two dolphins. In another exercise, we got into pairs and raised a pole over the water at the middle point of the pool. At the advisor's signal, the dolphins swam to us and jumped up over the pole. They were very skilful.
But the exercise that I was most excited about was “My Jump”. In the pool, I was ordered to float and wait. Soon two dolphins swam to me and pushed the soles of my feet with their beaks, making me jump out of the water!

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
At the end of the tour,
When we came back from the pool, we found that they had videotaped our exercises.

At the end of the tour, there was plenty of free time for us. We swam freely with the dolphins, but unexpectedly after a while, they were in a bad mood and began to pat us with their tails. The advisor ordered us to cross our arms in front of our chests and not to move any more. I was very scared, but there was no way to keep safe except to obey her. She whistled several times and gathered the dolphins. After that, the dolphins were in a better mood. The long free time was over.
When we came back from the pool, we found that they had videotaped our exercises. I was very delighted and bought the videotape to have a memory of swimming with the dolphins in Mexico.
