(河北省石家庄市藁城区2024-2025学年八年级上学期期末质量评价英语试题)We use water bottles almost everywhere, from walking around the neighborhood to sitting in the classroom. They help us live in good health by making sure our body has enough water. But here’s one important thing we might forget about: keeping our water bottles really clean.
Did you know that your water bottle can be bad for you if you don’t clean it often? When water is left in a bottle for a long time, germs (细菌) can start to grow. These germs may come from the water or from other things like hands. If you drink from a water bottle that has germs, you might not feel well.
Then how often should you clean your water bottle? You’d better wash it every day, especially (尤其) if you use it for drinks other than water. It also depends on (取决于) your activities, where you’re bringing it and the smell of the bottle. If you use your water bottle in hot and wet air, germs can grow quickly! Then be sure to clean your bottle after each use.
Here are some tips (建议) for cleaning your water bottle. First, use hot water. Second, wash the inside and outside of the bottle with a brush. Third, let it air dry before putting it away. Fourth, put it in a clean and dry place. Make it a habit to wash your bottle in this way, and you can keep the bottle free from germs and use it for a long time.
So remember, a clean water bottle is good for your health, and take a few minutes out of your day to clean it!

Maybe you think that many parents have learnt a lot about what their children are doing online. According to a recent survey by Symantec Company, there’s a “huge difference between parents and their children”. Symantec makes many security (安全) software for home and business computers.
How much time do children spend online each week? Parents of children under the age of 18 said their children spend about three hours a week on average (平均). The children, aged 8 to 17, who took the survey said they were spending an average of seven hours online each week.
“I really think that’s because of the time they spend on their mobile phones and computers, when their parents don’t even know they’re online,” says Symantec’s Bill Rosenkrantz. “Remember, cell phones and video game machines all make it possible to surf the Internet. You don’t have to sit in front of a computer screen.”
And what are the children doing on the Web? “They’re doing things, like downloading music, going to social networking sites and shopping online, when parents don’t think they’re doing those kinds of activities,” says Rosenkrantz. Nearly a quarter of the children (23 per cent) might do things their parents would not agree.
So how does a modern parent deal with (处理) this type of situation? “The first thing we strongly recommend is that parents spend time with their children online,” says Rosenkrantz.“Sit down with them and understand what they’re doing. Secondly, have a talk about it. Have a talk about what’s an acceptable activity, what’s an unacceptable activity, and set some rules—time online, things you can and can’t do. Really have those talks. That’s the most important.”
There are a lot of bad people on the Internet. That’s why it’s so important for parents to know what their children are doing online.

B.To advise parents to notice what their children do online.
C.To give reasons for children’s bad Internet habits.
D.To talk about the dangers children may face on the Internet.

There are about 6 000 languages spoken in the world, but a UN report says that at least 43% of these languages are dying out.
This has many reasons. One is that some communities of native speakers of the languages are gone. These people sometimes leave their communities and move to cities or towns.
What’s more, to get better education and jobs, young people have to learn dominant (占优势的) languages, such as English and French.
Once a language dies, it seldom comes back to life. Governments around the world are taking action to prevent this.
In New Zealand, the government has said it wants more than 20% of its people to be able to speak Maori (毛利语) by 2040. And it plans to provide Maori lessons in all New Zealand primary schools by 2025.
China is also trying to protect its languages. About 130 languages are spoken in China, more than the number of ethnic groups (民族) in the country. In 2015, the government started a project to record all the languages spoken in China. Universities like Minzu University of China have set up minority language majors (少数民族语言专业) for their students.

January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as Open AI’s GPT-40, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5.58 million(1/70 of Open AI’s cost)and used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79.8% right, slightly higher than Open AI’s model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with RI cost $10 instead of $300 with other AIs. Even Meta(a famous U. S. tech company)top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
US tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.

January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5. 58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and used 2,048 computer chips for two months.
A German scientist said experiments with R1 cost 10 instead of 300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U.S. tech company) top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
US tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend over $65 billion on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
1.The first paragraph is mainly developed by ______.
A.providing examples B.listing numbers
C.following the order of time D.comparing R1 with other AIs

A.65 million dollars. B.More than 65 million dollars.
C.Less than 65 billion dollars. D.More than 65 billion dollars.
4.Why does the engineer say, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use”?
A.To explain why R1 is free. B.To compare RI with Meta’s AI.
C.To encourage students to study math. D.To show that expensive AI models have no value.

If you are teaching English or another language, you might find your ideas are challenged. There might be different opinions of your role, which can result in misunderstandings. So what should you look out for when teaching student that are from different cultures from your own?
Lauren, a teacher, wanted to make her lessons meet her learners’ needs and interests. She started to ask the students what they’d like to do on the course. One of the learners asked “Shouldn’t it be your job to tell us what we need and what we should be doing?”
On the other side of the earth, Ron was facing the same problem. He believed that learners remember information best when they teach each other. So he had them take turns to give the lesson while he watched from the back of the room. A group of learners did not understand him and said he was not a good teacher.
The role of education is changing, and so is the role of the teacher. Some believe that the traditional role of the teacher as a knowledge transmitter (传播者) is out of date, and that teachers should instead encourage learning, by helping learners to learn by themselves and to think seriously about the information they find.
Some, however, prefer to see the teacher as the expert (专家) who is good enough to tell their learners what should be learned and what they should do to learn it. Lessons are teacher-centered in this situation, a time for learners to listen and learn.
By talking about your ways and discussing the reasons behind the decisions you make, you can help learners understand how they might benefit from your choices.
1.What did Lauren ask her students?
A.What kind of teacher they liked. B.What they preferred to learn in class.
C.What courses they were interested in. D.What difficulty they had in taking the course.
2.Why were some learners dissatisfied with Ron?
A.He didn’t do his teaching. B.He didn’t stand in the front.
C.He didn’t walk in the classroom. D.He didn’t deal with any problems.
3.What is the traditional role of a teacher?
A.To teach students think seriously. B.To change students’ view of life.
C.To pass knowledge on to students. D.To guide students in self-study.
4.What do some people think of teachers in teacher-centered classrooms?
A.They respect students’ choices.
B.They ask students lots of questions.
C.They decide what to learn in class.
D.They develop lesson plans together with students.
5.What does the writer try to do in the last paragraph?
A.To offer help. B.To ask for advice.
C.To compare ideas. D.To make a suggestion.

Is volunteering important? Did you ever find yourself feeling a bit lost? You need to talk about why people volunteer! Often when people look for a new life goal (目标), they need something to give themselves one purpose, so there’s no better way than volunteering.
First, volunteering is good for your future job. Your experience of being a volunteer gives the interviewer (面试官) a clearer picture of who you are. Volunteer experience is an important reason for finding a job.
Second, being a volunteer can set a good example to others. By volunteering, you encourage others to make good changes. Serving food at a food bank and working with teenagers in an after-school activity are also great examples to make others love volunteering.
Third, meeting people who have similar interests and ideas becomes easy. The way someone chooses to spend his or her free time shows the person’s values (价值观). Sharing the same values while helping others is a great way to make new friends. By volunteering, you will have more friends in a short time.
Last but not least, “doing good” is important. Every day we may watch or hear sad news and stories. However, volunteering is a good way to make the world a better place. Even a simple thing can play a role. If we all join together, those simple things can ad up to a big change!
Volunteering is never difficult. There is always a group for you. Just find the right group to join!

When we go to our beaches to enjoy Australia’s sun and sand, we’ re continuously reminded of the need to wear a shirt, a hat, and sunscreen. But we need also to pay attention to the resident birds that nest (筑巢) on our beaches and the migratory shorebirds (迁徙的滨鸟) that arrive every year from the north.
We have 18 kinds of resident shorebirds that spend all their lives in Australia, eating and breeding (繁殖) here on our beaches. But at least 37 other kinds move to Australia in spring and early summer. For most, a one-way trip from the north is some 10,000-13,000km. Some of them are smaller than the adult human hand! After making the arduous journey here, migratory shorebirds increase in weight by eating the food on the beaches. These migratory birds are very sensitive (敏感的) to disturbance (干扰). Continual disturbance can stop them from finding enough food for their journey home. Some young birds and those that do not have the energy to make the return journey will stay here over winter.
Resident shorebirds face a number of different problems. Cats and dogs take adult birds as well as baby birds and eggs. Signs are often in place on the beaches to let people know of the presence of shorebirds, advising them to keep away from marked areas and to keep pets under control. Sadly, the advice is not always followed. Organizations and volunteers who find shorebird nests in open areas often place a cage (笼子) over the nest, which lets the birds come and go from the nest, but keeps larger animals out.

①Do you yawn? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research (研究). They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning.
②We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too.
③Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? Scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down.
④Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (拉伸) the muscles (肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things.
⑤In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air.

How do people keep fit? A healthy diet? Exercise? Or something else? Some people may say, “Just walk 10 000 steps a day.” But is that helpful?
The origin of “10 000 steps a day”

In the eyes of many foreigners, Chinese are the best hosts and the worst guests in the world. And Western hosts sometimes look rude in the eyes of Chinese guests. It is because the guest-host relationship in China is quite different from that in some Western countries.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese friend’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the West, generally the guest is not a god. Acting according to the host’s way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest.
My wife’s mother, a very kind Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually, I want to stop them directly, but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that.
In most North American homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their house. At the very least, you should ask, “Is it OK if I smoke?” But don’t be surprised if they say, “No, you can’t smoke.” In my culture, if you smoke in their house, you are a bad guest, but if they don’t allow you to smoke in their house, they are not rude hosts.
In a word, no matter where you are, the best way to be a good guest is to adapt to (适应) the habits of your hosts.
1.When a Western guest visits a Chinese family, he often _________.
A.buys some fruit B.brings a cup of tea
C.smokes D.feels like a god
2.What will the writer probably say if a guest wants to smoke in his house?
A.Let’s smoke together. B.Sorry, you can’t smoke here.
C.Smoking is a bad habit. D.It’s OK if you smoke here.
3.What is the best title of the passage?
A.The Best Hosts
B.The Best Guests
C.Different Cultures in Different Countries
D.Different Guest-host Relationships in Different Cultures

Do you use hand gestures (姿势) when you talk? Do you open your mouth and eyes wide when you are surprised? These are all examples of body language. How important can it be?
Follow Tens and have a look.
Body language does not use words. It uses the movement or position of your body to show certain meanings. According to American scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 percent of communication is body language. In some cases you even express yourself without words. For example, if your friend asks you to join him in a picnic, you will give him an “OK” gesture to say “Yes, sounds great!” Sometimes your words say one thing, but your body language says another. You may do things unconsciously (无意识地) like touching your face while telling a lie.
In different cultures, the same body language means different things. In the US, making eye contact (眼神交流) with someone means you are interested in what the person is saying. While in some Asian countries, it is rude to look into a person’s eyes during a conversation.

The government in China plans to end its one-child policy (政策) and let families have two children instead. The plan was meant to balance (平衡) population development and stop a falling birth rate (出生率) .
China started the one-child policy in 1980s. But the government allowed only a small number of couples to have two children. For example, some families in the countryside could have two children, if the first-born child is a girl. In 2013, the Chinese government gave other couples a chance to have two children if one of them was an only child.

1.What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To discover causes. B.To compare facts.
C.To introduce the main topic. D.To share the writer’s story.
2.What can be learned about the shorebirds in Australia?
A.They are mostly from the south.
B.They live in Australia all year long.
C.There are 18 kinds of migratory shorebirds.
D.There are more of them in spring than in winter.
3.What. does the underlined word “arduous” mean?
A.Hard. B.Successful. C.Safe. D.Impossible.
4.What can happen to birds as a result of disturbance?
A.they get lost. B.They get hungry. C.They get caught. D.They get cold.
5.Which of the following may be a sign mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. B. C. D.

4.推理判断题。根据“Continual disturbance can stop them from finding enough food for their journey home.”可知,持续的骚乱会阻止它们找到足够的食物回家,因此它们会挨饿。故选B。

2.What will the writer probably say if a guest wants to smoke in his house?
A.Let’s smoke together. B.Sorry, you can’t smoke here.
C.Smoking is a bad habit. D.It’s OK if you smoke here.
3.What is the best title of the passage?

Sometimes, different body language expresses the same meaning. Take “hello” for example. French people kiss cheeks (脸颊) to say hello. Japanese people bow (鞠躬). Maoris in New Zealand, however, touch noses in greeting. What are you trying to say? Body language is important to teenagers. Understanding this language helps you to communicate better with others.
