Zebby beat thousands of others and won the title of National Cat of the Year, an award given by Cats Protection, a charity that rescues and rehomes cats. To win the award, Zebby first won the Family Fur-ever category, which honors cats that “make a family complete”.
Zebby’s owner, 66-year-old Genevieve Moss, lives alone in the UK, aside from her animal friend, of course. Living alone can be troublesome and her problems were further worsened by the fact that she can’t hear anything without her hearing aid. Once, she was robbed in the middle of the night. “I used to be scared to go to sleep, and I used to lie awake. But now, with Zebby, I can rest easily,” said Moss.
Zebby warns her of different sounds in their home. He also fetches the mail for Moss and drops it into the bedroom. He even takes her slippers (拖鞋) to her. “He seems to know that when the phone rings, he needs to tell me. At nighttime, if my security light goes on, he will wake me up by hitting my face gently. Sometimes to protect me, Zebby takes up his position at the front door to tell me it’s not happening when I try to leave the house,” Moss said.
“I am so proud of Zebby for showing the world how caring cats can be, and what a positive effect they can have on people’s lives,” she said. “I can’t imagine life without Zebby and I’m over the moon about his being honored with the National Cat Awards.”
Cats Protection’s National Cat Awards organizer Ashley Fryer said, “From the moment we read his entry form, we knew Zebby was something special. He is clearly devoted to Moss and their story highlights the powerful bond that exists between people and their cats. He shows a shining example of the joy and comfort a cat can bring.”
4. What can we infer about Zebby?
A. He was once a homeless cat.
B. He helped prevent a robbery.
C. He is highly sensitive to sounds.
D. He gives Moss a feeling of security.
5. To Moss, Zebby fails to play the role of __________.
A. a cleaner B. a watchman C. a companion D. a postman
6. What does the underlined phrase “over the moon” probably mean in the fourth paragraph?
A. Inspired. B. Astonished. C. Moved. D. Excited.
7. Which can be the best title of the text?
A. Amazing Cat Making a Family Complete
B. Award-winning Cat Listening for His Owner
C. National Title Awarded to a Rehomed Cat
D. Special Bond Formed Between Cat and Human
D 5. A 6. D 7. B
根据第二段中Moss所说的话“I used to be scared to go to sleep, and I used to lie awake. But now, with Zebby, I can rest easily (我曾经害怕睡觉,我曾经躺在床上睡不着。但现在,有了Zebby,我可以安心了)”可知,因为Zebby的存在,曾经睡觉困难的Moss可以安心入睡了。由此可知,Zebby给了Moss一种安全感。故选D项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“He also fetches the mail for Moss and drops it into the bedroom. He even takes her slippers (拖鞋) to her. (他还为Moss取邮件,并把它扔进了卧室。他甚至把她的拖鞋拿给她)”和“He seems to know that when the phone rings, he needs to tell me. At nighttime, if my security light goes on, he will wake me up by hitting my face gently. (他似乎知道电话一响,他就得告诉我。晚上,如果我的安全灯亮着,他会轻轻地打我的脸把我叫醒)”可知,Zebby像邮递员一样为Moss取邮件,充当她的守夜人,也是她的陪伴者,但没有扮演清洁工的角色。故选A项。
根据画线词的上文“I can’t imagine life without Zebby (我无法想象没有Zebby的生活)”可知,Moss对Zebby的存在心怀感激,再结合画线词的下文“about his being honored with the National Cat Awards (他被授予国家猫奖)”可推知,Moss会对Zebby得到这样的奖项感到非常兴奋,over the moon意思应该是“兴奋的”,与excited意思一致。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Zebby beat thousands of others and won the title of National Cat of the Year (Zebby击败了成千上万只猫,赢得了“年度国家猫”的称号)”和第三段中“Zebby warns her of different sounds in their home. (Zebby警告她家里不同的声音)”可知,文章围绕名叫Zebby的猫展开,讲述了他和听力有问题的主人Moss生活在一起,帮助她听各种声音,为她做各种事情,让她变得安心,对她的生活产生了积极的影响,从而赢得了“年度国家猫”的称号。因此,B项“倾听他的主人的获奖猫”突出了文章核心内容,最适合作为标题。故选B项。
C
Rotterdam in the Netherlands has turned an unused canal (运河) into a wave pool, but it took years to become a reality.
Edward van Dongen and Edwin van Viegen, two big surfers, had a dream in 2012 to create a place where they could always surf in Rotterdam and didn’t have to travel to the North Sea, but not everyone liked their idea. Neighbors said that it would be too noisy. Five years later, the government finally gave them the green light. Now,12 years later,RiF010 opened in July 2024.
Man-made waves are not new. In fact, one of the earliest wave pools was built in Munich, Germany in 1929. People moved up and down in the pool where the waves were made by a large paddle (桨).The first wave pool in the US opened in Tempe, Arizona in 1969.
But wave pools are much higher tech today. Rotterdam’s wave pool uses a real canal that was once used for shipping. To build it, they created a special underwater concrete (混凝土) basin that allowed the water to be safely emptied without destroying the historic quays (码头). After the water was emptied, a wave-making mechanism (机械装置) was put in, and the basin was filled with clean water from the Rotte River.
The surfing mechanism was developed by Surf Loch, a California company, to mimic the way waves form in the ocean. This technology is powered by eight engines through wind power from the North Sea.
While the waves might not feel exactly like the ocean, they’ll still be exciting. Surfers can sign up for one-hour sessions based on their skill level, with waves from 1.5 feet to 5 feet tall. RiF010 will have a beach house, a cafe, a restaurant, and a surf shop, just like a real beach. But this beach is in the heart of the city!
8. Why did it take so long to build the wave pool in Rotterdam?
A. Nearby people were against it. B. No company wanted to take it on.
C. It didn’t have a suitable location. D. It was thought to be useless.
9. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The environmental effects of the wave pool. B. The benefits of the wave pool.
C. The appearance of the wave pool. D. The process of building the wave pool
10. What does the underlined word “mimic”in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Check. B. Support. C. Copy. D. Improve.
11. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Wave pools are becoming more popular.
B. Surfing is a popular sport in Rotterdam.
C. Building a wave pool in a city can be challenging.
D. Rotterdam has made a wave pool a reality.
A 9. D 10. C 11. D

根据第二段“Neighbors said that it would be too noisy. (邻居们说它太吵了。)”可知,附近的人反对建造冲浪池,所以建造冲浪池花了很长时间。故选A。
根据第四段“But wave pools are much higher tech today. Rotterdam’s wave pool uses a real canal that was once used for shipping. To build it, they created a special underwater concrete (混凝土) basin that allowed the water to be safely emptied without destroying the historic quays(码头). After the water was emptied, a wave-making mechanism (机械装置) was put in, and the basin was filled with clean water from the Rotte River. (但如今的冲浪池技术要先进得多。鹿特丹的冲浪池利用的是一条曾经用于航运的真实运河。为了建造它,他们创建了一个特殊的水下混凝土盆地,这样可以在不破坏历史码头的情况下安全地排空池水。池水排空后,安装了一个造浪机械装置,然后用来自罗特河的清水填满了盆地。)”可知,本段主要讲述了建造冲浪池的过程。故选D。
【10题详解】
词句猜测题。根据“The surfing mechanism was developed by Surf Loch, a California company, to mimic the way waves form in the ocean. (冲浪机制由加州公司Surf Loch开发,以______海浪在海洋中形成的方式。)”可知,开发出来的冲浪机制模仿海浪在海洋中形成的方式,由此可知,mimic意为“模仿”。故选C。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Rotterdam in the Netherlands has turned an unused canal into a wave pool, but it took years to become a reality. (荷兰鹿特丹将一条废弃的运河改造成了冲浪池,但花了数年时间才成为现实。)”以及全文内容可知,本文主要讲述了鹿特丹已经成功实现了冲浪池。故选D。

“I have a couple of spots for anyone who wants to lose 20 pounds by the holidays! No diets or exercise!” said Katie Hurley, a psychologist who specializes in work with tweens, teens and young adults, “The fact that diet culture all over social media targets grown women is bad enough, but such messaging also reaches tweens and teens. There’s been a noticeable increase in eating disorder, particularly among adolescent girls.”
“My mom is addicted to seeing her Facebook friends losing tons of weight without dieting. Is this real?” The question came from a teen girl who later said she was considering hiring a health coach to help her eat “healthier”. Sadly, the coaching is part of a marketing brand that promotes quick weight loss through calorie restriction (热量限制) and buying costly meal replacements (替代品).
“As we approach the holidays, diet culture is in the air, and it’s certainly on social media,” said Dr. Hina, “It’s so powerful that even if it’s not targeted at teens, they are absorbing it by receiving it continuously or hearing parents talk about it.”
Social media isn’t the only place young people come across harmful messaging about body image and weight loss. Teens are flooded with so-called “healthy eating” content on TV and in popular culture, at school and while engaged in after-school or social activities, at home and in public spaces like malls or grocery stores— and even in restaurants.
Today’s teens are getting the message that “clean eating” results in a better body and increased happiness. Diets cutting out all carbohydrates, dairy products, gluten (谷蛋白), and meat-based proteins are popular among teens. Yet this mindset can cause food anxiety, addictive checking of food labels and dangerous calorie restriction.
The good news is that parents can take an active role in helping teens form healthier eating habits. “It’s important to remember this: parents are influencers, too,” said Hanson, “What we say and do matters to our teens.”
12. Why did the author mention Katie Hurley’ words in Paragragh 1?
A. To explain results. B. To list examples.
C. To raise a theory. D. To introduce a topic.
13. What do we know about today’s young people according to the text?
A. They get power from other teens. B. They may suffer from food anxiety.
C. They employ coaches to go on a diet. D. They are addicted to meal replacements.
14. What may help teens form the healthier eating habits according to Hanson?
A. TV programs. B. Parents’ influence.
C. Restaurants’ service. D. Social activities.
15. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Body Image and Teenagers B. Why Healthy Eating Is Important
C. How Diet Culture Affects Teenagers D. The Role of Social Media in Teen Health
D 13. B 14. B 15. C
根据第一段“‘I have a couple of spots for anyone who wants to lose 20 pounds by the holidays! No diets or exercise!’ said Katie Hurley, a psychologist who specializes in work with tweens, teens and young adults, ‘The fact that diet culture all over social media targets grown women is bad enough, but such messaging also reaches tweens and teens. There’s been a noticeable increase in eating disorder, particularly among adolescent girls.’(专门研究儿童、青少年和年轻人心理的心理学家Katie Hurley说:“我有几个名额,给那些想在假期前减掉20磅体重的人!无需节食或锻炼!社交媒体上无处不在的节食文化针对成年女性已经够糟糕了,但这样的信息也影响到了儿童和青少年。饮食失调的情况明显增加,尤其是在青春期女孩中。”)”可知,作者引用Katie Hurley的话是为了引出“节食文化对青少年产生影响”这一话题。故选D项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段最后一句“Yet this mindset can cause food anxiety, addictive checking of food labels and dangerous calorie restriction.(然而,这种心态会导致食物焦虑、对查看食品标签上瘾以及危险的热量限制。)”
根据最后一段“‘It’s important to remember this: parents are influencers, too,’ said Hanson, ‘What we say and do matters to our teens.’(Hanson说:“要记住这一点很重要:父母也是有影响力的人。
