Despite being unable to tell whether the driver is using the phone, it is hoped that it will act as a warning to people who make calls behind the wheel. The technology picks up the phone signal in the vehicle and activatesW2 a roadside warning sign of a mobile phone with a red line through it. The system can't tell the difference between a driver and a passenger on a bus, but to some degree it can warn drivers that they can be detected using their phones. Using a directional antenna (天线), the detector picks up radio waves produced by a phone handset, and measures the signal strength and length of them. When a signal is detected of durationW3 long enough and signal strength strong enough to set off the system, the detector activates the warning sign. The detector is able to distinguish Bluetooth connections or handsfree devices which, when picked up,will prevent the activation. While this new system is no replacement for a police officer catching someone in the act, it could be enough to make some drivers think twice and that has to be a positive step forward. However, just as technology has enabled the problem of drivers using mobile phones illegally, it can also be a big part of the solution in getting people to stop. Statistics from the devices will be shared with Norfolk Police, the county council said. The council said that enabling the system to record specific number plates could be a “future development”. Using a mobile phone at the wheel is one of the four road crimes which can have horrible consequences if it causes a deadly or serious car crash. Law enforcement (执行) technology has been falling behind for a decade and not made any easier by motor producers that encourage users to plug in their phones even before driving. 1.What is the function of the roadside system according to Paragraph 1? A.To collect information for future use. B.To send out cellphone signals to drivers. C.To detect passengers' wrong use of phones. B.It warns drivers with a phone in hand. C.It picks up radio waves from handsets. D.It activates the vehicle's Bluetooth system. C。 3.What does the text suggest drivers do with the road warning sign? A.Swift to Bluetooth while driving. B.Have a close watch of road signs. C.Avoid being picked up by detectors. D.Stop using a handsfree mobile phone. A。 4.What will the county council probably do in the future? A.Share the devices with the police. B.Make the system more advanced. C.Replace the police with the new system. D.Take steps to settle road safety problems. Finish It and Forget It Do you have a hard time leaving work at work? Is your todo list so long that it is never possible to finish everything you set out to do in a day? __1__ You may start with leaving your work at work. When your work day ends, you should try to move from your professional life mode (模式) to your personal life mode. Leave your todos to the next day. Often, todo lists are quite unrealistic. __2__ Be honest with yourself about what you can actually complete in a day. If something doesn't get completed, move it to another day. You needn't solve all the conflicts and problems in one day. If you've had a tough day, don't feel pressured to always solve the issue the same day. It doesn't mean that you should avoid difficult conversations, but rather that it is important to find the right time to have them. __3__ Clear your mind to focus on the present. When you find yourself focusing on all that you haven't finished during the day, take a deep breath, leave in behind. Never beat yourself up over moment than have passed earlier in your day that you will never get back. __4__ For it, too, can never be regained. End your day on purpose. __5__ Do you drop off to sleep while reading a book? Studies show that most people have a more restful night's sleep when they have a bed time routine (常规做法) consisting of no lights and low or no noise in the hour before going to sleep. End your day intentionally and you will find yourself energized when you begin the next day! A.Do you sometimes fall asleep on the sofa? B.Sometimes we get stressed with overcrowded schedules. C.Don't permit yourself to make mistakes or get off the track. D.Waiting a day or two can help you calm down and find a solution. E.Instead, make best of the moment you're in right now by enjoying it. F.You should form the habit of taking responsibility and finish work on time. G.If so, you should simply remind yourself “finish each day and be done with it”. 1.G 根据上文“Do you have a hard time leaving work at work? Is your todo list so long that it is never possible to finish everything you set out to do in a day?(你下班后很难过吗?你的待办事项清单是不是太长了,以至于你不可能在一天之内完成所有你计划好的事情?)”可知,设空处应回答工作是否完成的问题。G项(如果是这样的话,你只需提醒自己“每一天结束了,(工作)也就随之结束了”。)承接上文。故选G。 2.B 根据上文“Often, todo lists are quite unrealistic.” 3.D 根据上文“If you've had a tough day, don't feel pressured to always solve the issue the same day.” 4.E 根据上文“Never beat yourself up over moment than have passed earlier in your day that you will never get back.” 5.A 根据下文“Do you drop off to sleep while reading a book?” A项中“fall asleep”和下文中“drop off to sleep”语义一致。故选A。 “Surprise!” was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most. I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You're welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn't only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.” “Of course I will.” I said confidently. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn't even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn't pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn't get caught using it. I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test. It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A's and B's on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn't believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed. Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. [精彩范文] Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought I didn't communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later, I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn't go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them. From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I' m not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day.
