B Eight hours shovelling snow in -20°C might not sound like the ideal day out, but a committed team of volunteers in Finland are working dawn to dusk building enormous snow drifts(雪堆)for one of the world’s most endangered seals. The Saimaa ringed seal was once common around Lake Saimaa in the south-east of Finland, but now only 495 of them remain. In the late 1980s the population of the seals decreased to its lowest point, with fewer than 200 left, driven by hunting and deaths caused by fish traps. Accidental deaths in fishing nets remain a challenge. Now, the seals are fully protected but the threat of the climate emergency is worrying. The seals make “snow caves” inside snow drifts where they raise their young and protect them from the elements and predators such as red foxes, but as the climate warms, the snow is disappearing. To save these rare seals, 300 volunteers spend days shovelling snow into piles 7m long and 1.5m high around the edge of the frozen lake. “It’s kind of a snow cave.” says Vincent Biard, a PhD student and volunteer from the University of Eastern Finland. “The seals come from under and dig into the snow drifts to create a cave where they can give birth and raise their young.” They get around on foot or skis, dragging their equipment with them over a distance of 10km. Biard describes the day as “kind of fun”, and adds, “you actually have an impact, which is nice. If we don’t do it, then they would just go extinct quite quickly.” More than 300 pups have been born in artificial snowdrifts since they started making them in 2014. “We are on a rising growth curve, so things still look pretty nice,” says Jari Ilmonen , coordinator of Our Saimaa Seal Life, which is an EU-funded programme. “We are doing what we can, so we have to have hope and positive thoughts.” Human-made snow drifts are larger and “more durable than natural snow drifts”, says Ilmonen. “By the first half of February most of the natural ones had melted away, but the manmade ones stood strong.” 24. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. The two functions of snow drifts. B. The threats to the Saimaa ringed seals. C. The big concern about global warming. D. The full recovery of the seals’ population. 25. Which of the following can best describe the work of the volunteers? A. Effective but boring. B. Valuable but impractical. C. Demanding but fulfilling. D. Dangerous but enjoyable. 26. What does Ilmonen say about manmade snow drifts? A. They can help all marine life survive winters. B. They are more comfortable than natural ones. C. They will not melt until the end of the spring. D. They have seen progress in protecting the seals. 27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To celebrate an effort to protect wildlife. B. To introduce one of endangered animals. C. To explain benefits of artificial snowdrifts. D. To raise the awareness of the climate crisis. C Self-confidence is trusting in our abilities or qualities. It’s usually seen as a good thing. But is it possible that we might benefit from a little less confidence in our beliefs? For many years, Dr. Mark Leary, a neuroscientist at Duke University in Durham, N.C., has studied the role of people’s beliefs in their behavior. He found overconfidence is very common, especially when it comes to what people believe to be true, and can lead us to disastrous decisions. In 1986, NASA believed that the risk of loss for any space flight was roughly 1 in 100,000. It was an overconfident belief and might have led to the explosion of the Challenger. The good news is that there’s a “vaccine” for overconfidence, and that’s what scientists call “intellectual humility” — recognizing that your beliefs could be wrong. A survey of 144 college students to measure their intellectual humility found that students who saw their thinking could be wrong tended to be more curious and more likely to seek out new knowledge. They ended up knowing more at the end of the day. But does it actually help you beyond that? To find out more, Dr. Tenelle Porter at Ball State University conducted a series of studies with high school students. She found that students with intellectual humility were much more likely to test themselves to see whether they really understood the material and seek out potential holes in their understanding. When they got test scores, they’d change their study strategies to improve their performance and master the material for the next test. Students who didn’t see their knowledge could be wrong might instead just sail through their studying and wouldn’t stop to ask themselves if they truly understood what they read, heard,or did. Such students thought they got a subject down pat, but when asked to explain it on a test, they found they didn’t actually understand as much as they had thought. Although it might be good for you, researchers recognize that questioning your beliefs can be truly hard. Still, it’s important to remember that questioning beliefs isn’t always about replacing old ones with new ones. If you find it hard to question a belief, try taking “baby steps.” 28. Why does the author mention the explosion of the Challenger? A. To express his sorrow for the loss. B. To stress the high risk of space flights. C. To show the result of wrong operation. D. To give an example of overconfidence. 29. What do we know about intellectual humility according to Porter’s research? A. It urged students to gain recognition. B. It encouraged students to take exams. C. It helped students to adjust learning methods. D. It motivated students to memorize knowledge. 30. What do the underlined words “got a subject down pat” mean in paragraph 5? A. Fully mastered a subject. B. Put great effort into a subject C. Really enjoyed a subject. D. Benefited a lot from a subject. 31. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs? A. Why questioning our belief is hard. B. Why intellectual humility is helpful. C. How to become a confident person. D. How to practice intellectual humility. D The brain is protected by shock-absorbing fluid and, outside that, the skull. In a concussion(脑震荡), the brain bounces around in the skull, accelerating, decelerating or revolving. This creates a series of impacts. The neurons(神经元) in the brain are disturbed, and between those neurons, the axons ― thin fibers that transmit electrical impulses―stretch or break. Inside the brain, it’s like an earthquake that has happened. Everything is still standing, but there are cracks in the roads and in building foundations. This extremely small damage has big consequences. But decades ago, the public had a “walk it off” attitude towards concussions. That’s changed, thanks in part to an increased awareness about the long-term effects. The 2015 film “Concussion” tells the true story of Dr Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist studying chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disorder caused by repeated head injuries. Until recently, the dark-room treatment was the standard prescribed by most doctors, involving patients resting in darkness and without any mental stimulation, until their symptoms eased off. This suggestion came out of studies in the 1990s and early 2000s that found when athletes with concussions continued with high levels of activity, they recovered more slowly than those who rested. But people who spend more time in a dark room ― sometimes called “cocooning” ― are also more likely to experience anxiety, depression and sleep problems. Their bodies get weaker due to underuse, as well. “Science and research have evolved over the past decade, showing that when you stop doing activity altogether, that actually affects your recovery process,” says Babul, a sports-injury specialist. The active-rest approach to concussion recovery promotes a slow increase in activity, starting with a day or two of light daily movement, and gradually adding activity, building to a full return to normal, unrestricted activity. “People who follow the right guidance and management tend to recover uneventfully, and those who don’t and continue to do their activities continue to tax their brain and are likely to have long-term, persisting symptoms,” Babul says. “The key is to recognize it immediately and know what to do.” 32. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A. The workings of concussion. B. The causes of concussion. C. The symptoms of concussion. D. The effects of concussion 33. What leads to people’s weaker bodies in the dark-room treatment? A. The dark environment. B. Their physical pain. C. Their insufficient activity. D. Their mental disorder. 34. Which practice is advised to help with concussion, according to the passage? A. Setting a progressive fitness plan first. B. Doing heavy housework daily. C. Playing competitive sports regularly. D. Lying in bed for the whole day. 35. What is the best title of the text? A. From Inaction to Action: Concussion Shocks B. From Darkness to Light: Concussion Recovery C. From Outside to Inside: Concussion Treatment D. From Nothing to Something: Concussion Study (共5小题,计12.5分) You have to make a speech. You have done your research and now have plenty of ideas bouncing around in your head that you want to get across. The big question you face at this point is how to organize those thoughts. 36 You need to brainstorm some supporting ideas and then figure out how those ideas fit together. These are just two cases that many people deal with frequently. Some use outlining to flesh out and organize their ideas, but is that the best strategy? 37 38 This two-dimensional structure is designed to help you remember information because its format is easy for your mind to remember. More than 250 million people worldwide use them, so why don’t you have a try and see what they are all about? What is a mind map? Simply put, it is one’s ideas put into the form of a visual diagram that starts with a central idea. Put this idea in a bubble in the middle of a page with lines radiating out to other bubbles that contain related themes or concepts. 39 Use words, short phrases or images to express your ideas. And use color-coded bubbles for a visual representation of each branch’s connection. Studies have shown that this technique of using pictures, colors and visual arrangement has improved people’s recall and memory of information by 10 to 15 percent. 40 Creativity is aroused because of the spatial arrangement, enabling people to make more links and associations on topics of any kind. Additionally, it increases one’s productivity because mind mapping makes it easier to learn faster. So whether you’re in charge of a project or writing a research paper, make this technique a core part of your planning process! A. But it doesn’t stop there. B. It should look like a many-legged spider. C. This is a common problem that many people face. D. It has proven to increase not only productivity and creativity but also memory. E. Or perhaps you are planning to write a paper, and all you have is the main topic. F. If everyone thought in a linear manner, then the answer would be yes, but most people don’t. G. Enter mind mapping, a technique that show different ideas and facts relate to one another. (共15小题,计15分) The side door of the aircraft was opened, and a brisk wind rushed in. She was leaving for London because she got a new job there. It was said that her new boss was a typical English gentleman—polite, modest, humorous and considerate. She was excited as well as a little nervous about her new life. With several long hours before her flight, the woman hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a packet of cookies and found a place to sit. She took out a book and started to read. Although she was absorbed in her book, she happened to see that the man sitting beside her, as bold (大胆的) as he could be, grabbed (抓) a cookie or two from the bag in between them. Educated to be well-mannered, she tried to ignore it to avoid an argument. But to show that she was the owner, she started to take cookies from that bag too. Unfortunately, the man didn't get that hint (暗示), since he didn't stop grabbing the cookies. “How annoying!” She thought. As the greedy cookie thief kept eating, the woman munched (用力咀嚼) some cookies and watched the clock. She was getting angrier as the minutes went by, thinking, “If I weren't so nice, I would blacken his eyes.” With each cookie she took, he took one, too; when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her a half, and ate the other. She grabbed it from him, glared at him and thought, “Oh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he is so rude! Why didn’t he even show any gratefulness?” She had never known when she had been so angry, and sighed in relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate quickly, refusing to look back at the rude thief. She boarded the plane, sank in her seat, and looked for her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise.___________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________ Surprisingly, she found the man sitting just behind her._____________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 二段答案 听力:BABCA CBCBA CABAC BCABA 阅读:ACB BCDA DCAD ACAB EFGBA 完型:41-45 CADBC 46-50 ADCAB 51-55 DBADB 语法填空: 56. influential 57.enthusiastically 58.has been working 59.recognition 60.be promoted 61.a 62.down 63.which 64. learning 65.stronger 66. Our Oceans, Our Responsibility June 8th was officially named by the UN in 2009 as World Oceans Day. It was set up to raise awareness of protecting the oceans, which play a crucial part in the global ecosystem. Without the oceans, no living things would survive, humans included. As senior students, we can protect oceans in our own way. First, try every means to fight against global warming, which has become a great threat to sea creatures. Second, when surfing or boating, never drop litter into the sea. In addition, take an active part in voluntary activities launched by ocean conservation organizations. Every little effort counts. As long as we try our best, we will make a difference to the marine environment. 67. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise. At that moment , she was surprised to find a packet of cookies lying in her bag unopened. In a flash, an idea struck her that she was wrong about the whole thing and the kind gentleman wasn't a greedy cookie thief. She was so embarrassed that her face turned red with shame and embarrassment, thinking she was such a reckless and careless woman., and what she could do to cope with it. Suddenly , looking out of the window, she came up with an idea of making an apology to the gentleman, which prompted her to look for the gentleman immediately. Surprisingly, she found the man sitting just behind her. However, she sat there speechless, looking directly into the man's eyes, feeling her face burning with shame. “May I help you, Madam ?” With a warm smile, the gentleman first broke the ice. She,with a bright smile on her face, grabbed her cookie and handed it to the man. Subsequently, the woman explained the whole misunderstanding to him in a low voice . Two days later, when the woman came her new company to work , she found that the gentleman sharing his cookies with her at the airport was her boss. What a coincidence! 21. 答案:A。 根据文章“What kinds of activities do campers get to do?” 根据文章“What does the cost cover?” A选项“The two functions of snow drifts”(雪堆的两个功能)只涉及部分内容;C选项“The big concern about global warming”(对全球变暖的担忧)没有全面概括段落;D选项“The full recovery of the seals' population”(海豹种群的完全恢复)与段落主旨不符。 第26题 D 根据Ilmonen所说“More than 300 pups have been born in artificial snowdrifts since they started making them in 2014. We are on a rising growth curve”,可以知道人造雪堆在保护海豹方面取得了成效,D选项正确。A选项“help all marine life survive winters.”(帮助所有海洋生物度过冬天)过于绝对;B选项“more comfortable”(更舒适)文中未提及;C选项“not melt until the end of the spring”(直到春末才融化)错误,文中未给出明确时间节点。 B选项“introduce one of endangered animals”(介绍一种濒危动物)只是部分内容;C选项“explain benefits of artificial snowdrifts”(解释人造雪堆的好处)不是主要目的;D选项“raise the awareness of the climate crisis”(提高对气候危机的认识)不是重点。 30.   答案:A。 因此,由此可推断“got a subject down pat”的意思是完全掌握了一个科目,因此答案为A。 31. B. The causes of concussion(脑震荡的原因)、C. The symptoms of concussion(脑震荡的症状)和D. A. The dark environment(黑暗的环境)、B. Their physical pain(他们的身体疼痛)和D. 第34题A。 第36题 E 结合第二段第一句话“These are just two cases...” 第37题 F 空句前“Some use outlining to flesh out and organize their ideas, but is that the best strategy?” 第38题 G 空句后的句子“this two-dimensional structure is designed to...” 第39题 B 空前句“Put this idea in a bubble in the middle of a page with lines radiating out to other bubbles that contain related themes or concepts.” A. give out 分发,B. set out 出发,D. work out 解决,均不符合题意。 A. came back 返回,B. faded away 消失,C. died down 平息,均不符合题意。 A.
