Ye has no children of his own. He lives with his wife in a small house. The house has more than 30 years of history. He sometimes lets children far away from home spend the night there.
Over the past years, Ye has helped more than 2,000 children on his own. Yang Hongyan is one of Ye’s students. “Without Grandpa Ye’s help, I may have dropped out of school,” says Yang.
“Someone asked me, ‘Are you tired?’ It must be a lie to say that I’m not tired. But I think the meaning of life is doing something for others, and that’s the most important thing of life. I live to work. I’ll run against time and try to teach more children,” says Ye.

In 2024, China experienced its hottest year since 1961, with an average temperature of 10.92℃, 1.03℃ higher than normal, according to official records.
Global warming (全球变暖) is the main reason for China’s unusual warmth. It has caused rising sea levels and more serious weather, including longer heat waves and fewer cold days. The El Niño phenomenon (厄尔尼诺现象) —the warming of water in the Pacific Ocean—also adds to rising temperatures.
A small 1℃ rise in temperature has a strong influence on nature. Sea levels may rise by 2.3 meters over time, dangerous to coastal areas. Warmer weather hurts wild plants and attracts more harmful insects. Some animals and plants may die out because they cannot fit quickly enough.
Higher temperatures may shortly increase farming production in some places. However, in the long term, farming will face bigger changes because of unusual rainfall and heat. Water shortages will possibly influence up to 1.7 billion people. Illnesses related to heat are becoming more common. Longer heat waves lead to more deaths, showing the need for better healthcare and actions to prevent harm.
The year 2025 seems to continue with unusually high temperatures. To deal with these problems, experts suggest developing technology to predict (预测) extreme weather, like heat waves, to reduce risks and be better prepared.
63. What is the normal average temperature of China?
A. 1.03℃. B. 9.89℃. C. 10.92℃. D. 11.95℃.
64. What influence does a small rise in temperature have on nature?
A. It lowers the seal levels. B. It leads to more wild plants.
C. It attracts more harmful insects. D. It causes more farming production.
65. What is the text mainly about?
A. The introduction of El Niño phenomenon.
B. The influence of global warming in China.
C. The history of temperature changes in China.
D. The recent developments of China’s farming.

Have you noticed that some animals and plants go slow in winter? Maybe we can learn from the natural world by taking things easily.
Why go slow?
One of the reasons that animals and plants slow down is to save energy. It also makes sense to people too. “We need to rest so we can be full of energy when it’s time to be active again,” explains Rakhee Jasani, who teaches mindfulness (正念减压法). “Taking it easy helps us to notice more of what’s happening around us,” she says.
Why is relaxation good for you?
Slowing down gives you a chance to rest between all the activities that fill your days-whether that’s school homework, or spending time with family and friends. “Slowing down is like giving your body a hug from the inside,” Jasani says. It can also help learn. A US study found that school pupils who were given 15 minutes of quiet time at the start and the end of the day were happier and worked harder in study.
Enjoy the moment
Slowing down is a great way to get more from every moment. Next time you go for a walk, try paying attention to the surroundings. You could also try cooking or something that takes time and patience. Notice what difference it makes to how you think and feel.
66. Why do animals and plants slow down according to Rakhee Jasani?
A. To have a rest. B. To save energy.
C. To prepare for death. D. To match the cold weather.
67. What did the US study find out about pupils who had quiet time?
A. They performed better in study. B. They paid less attention in class.
C. They had lower levels of energy. D. They were more likely to be unhappy.
68. What does the underlined word “surroundings” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A Spirit. B. Moments. C. Belongings. D. Environment.
69. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To tell people to slow down in study.
B. To teach people how to do mindfulness.
C. To encourage people to take things easily
D. To help people learn from the natural world.

【68题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章最后一段“Slowing down is a great way to get more from every moment. Next time you go for a walk, try paying attention to the surroundings. ”结合前文“Taking it easy helps us to notice more of what’s happening around us”可知,作者认为放慢节奏是一种能让你从每一刻中收获更多的好方法,同时能让我们更好地感知周围的变化,因此去散步的时候应该是留意周围的“环境”,感受外界的事物变化,享受当下每一刻,所以推测surroundings意思是“环境”,与Environment意思相近。故选D。
【69题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章开头“Have you noticed that some animals and plants go slow in winter? Maybe we can learn from the natural world by taking things easily.”以及后文对从容不迫的好处的阐述可知,文章的目的是鼓励人们学会从容不迫,享受当下。故选C。

There are many cool clubs in schools around the world. Let’s take a look.
In my first year of university, I joined a very special club: the Harry Potter Club! When you signed up, you got to pick your Hogwarts house from the Sorting Hat. A few weeks later, I played in a Quidditch game (魁地奇球赛). Everyone “flew” around on brooms (扫把), trying to help their team win. We also watched the last Harry Potter movie, and we all dressed up as our favorite Harry Potter roles. It was so much fun!
——Madeleine King
In the US, there’s a fun club called the quiz (知识竞赛) bowl. I was in the club at high school for years. In the quiz bowl, high school and college students answer questions about many subjects. They can be history, science, math, sports and more. Students play in teams and use buzzers (抢答器) to answer. The fastest team gets the point!
——Eilish Fisher
In the UK, there are Lego clubs for kids from 5 to 12 years old. I worked to help a few children with learning difficulties in the Lego club. There’s a “one teacher’s school” in Buchen village, Anhui province (省). The only teacher here is a 96-year-old man, Ye Lianping. Ye started teaching students in 2000. He built the “home for left-behind children”. He himself taught them Chinese and English for free. As most of the young people work far away, elders and children are left behind in the village.
“Someone asked me ‘Are you tired?’ It must be a lie to say that I’m not tired. But I think the meaning of life is doing something for others, and that’s the most important thing of life. I live to work. I’ll run against time and try to teach more children,” says Ye.
Ye hopes the children can learn more about the outside world and have their own dreams.

A. Spirit. B. Moments. C. Belongings. D. Environment.
69. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To tell people to slow down in study.
B. To teach people how to do mindfulness.
C. To encourage people to take things easily
D. To help people learn from the natural world.

In a small town, there lived a man named Jack who was known for his love of adventure (冒险) and trying new things. One day, he decided to go hiking in the near mountains.
On the way, Jack saw two paths: one familiar (熟悉的) and well-traveled, and the other deserted and overgrown. He chose the unfamiliar path this time, thinking he might discover something new.
However, after walking for a while, he began to trip over trees and gradually (逐渐地) lost his way. After several hours of hard work, he finally found that it was a view he had seen countless times before.
He was disappointed because he realized that he could have taken the easier path and easily enjoyed the views without going through so much trouble.
The next day, Jack met his friend Sarah. She told Jack that this was her first time hiking in that mountain. Sarah said, “But I checked the reviews online and asked some friends for advice, and they all told me not to take that grassy road because it was too difficult.”
After listening to this Jack realized he could actually avoid mistakes by listening to lessons of others. There are two choices in life: one is to learn through hardship, and the other is to learn easily through the lessons of others. ___________________
