Anne Sullivan was bom on 14 April 1866 in Feeding Hills,Agawam,Massachusetts. Her family lived in extreme poverty.
When she was five years old,Sullivan contracted the bacterial eye disease trachoma )a painful infection that left her
nearly blind. When she was eight.her mother died, and two years later, her father gave up his children as he could not raise
them on his own.
Anne was transferred to the Perkins School for the Blind on 7 October 1880.Anne was terribly behind in her education, and
the rough manners required to survive in the almshouse ()made it difficult for her to fit in among a student group
that was mainly composed of children of the rich.Yet,she soon closed the gap with her classmates with iron-willed
determination.Sullivan underwent a series of eye operations that significantly improved her vision. In June 1886,she
graduated as the best one of her class.
Sullivan arrived at Helen Keller's house on March 5.1887.Sullivan immediately began to teach Helen to communicate by
spelling words into her hand, starting with"d-o-1-1"for the doll that she had brought Keller as a present. At first, the work
was slow and frustrating:Keller had no understanding of connecting objects and words.However.after a month of
Sullivan's constant and patient efforts, there was a breakthrough. As Sullivan spelled the word water in one hand while
running cool water over the other,Helen Keller made the connection that the gestures symbolized"water."
Sullivan's breakthrough in communicating with Keller came the next month when Helen realized that the motions her
teacher was making on the palm of her hand while running cool water over her other hand symbolized the idea of"water."
Keller later recalled,"I stood still,my whole attention fixed upon the motions of her fingers.Suddenly I felt a misty
consciousness as of something forgotten-a thrill of retuming thought, and somehow the mystery of language was
revealed to me."Having released the genie (of language out of the bottle,Keller nearly exhausted Sullivan with her
zeal to learn the names of the other objects in her world.Within six months under Anne Sullivan's guidance,Keller leamed
575 words.
It was no less a person than Mark Twain who described Anne Sullivan as a Miracle Worker.Sullivan not only conquered
the darkness of her own early life but opened the world to a young girl cut off and alone.Anne Sullivan's resolute spirit
should inspire all of us.
24.What can we learn about Sullivan from the first two paragraphs?

A.She was too frustrated to learn.
B.She was a slow language leamer.

It seems you can ask artificial intelligence(AI)programs anything.and they'll give you an answer back. So,can they tell
jokes? This question was raised when UK comedian Karen Hobbs performed in late June.Instead of the usual jokes she
created,Hobbs delivered jokes written by ChatGPT.The process made her nervous.
Hobbs said that when she asked ChatGPT for a joke, what it provided was a man joking about being impatient with his
shopping-obsessed girlfriend.Even when she asked to switch to the woman's perspective, the joke still featured a
shopping-obsessed girlfriend,just told from the first-person perspective.
It's no surprise that many jokes come from a male perspective in online materials,as males dominate the field of
comedy. The BBC commented that AI storytelling can only reproduce information that already exists in some form.
although it can produce some never-before-seen combinations of ideas.
"One way that AI can tell jokes is to do what any 5-year-old does-repeat a successful joke they have heard or try to
make an obvious variation of it,"said Les Carr,a professor of web science.
Nonetheless,a good joke in real life can always adjust to the audience's feedback, which often leads comedians to
improvise(即兴创f作).This, unfortunately,is beyond the current capabilities of AI.
For instance,in improv, there is no space for premeditation(f顶先策划),the comedian must rely only on their
instinctive(直觉的)reaction to the audience
“A well-done stand-up bit can lead the audience through a funny story all the way to a hilarious punchline(令人捧腹的妙
),Michael Ryan,a student researching AI's impact on comedy, explained to the BBC."The whole time the comedian
knew exactly where he or she was going with the joke and brought the audience there."
However, this could all change.Research is already ongoing with the goal of giving AI a greater understanding of the world
around it,which makes the future of Al jokes still uncertain.
28.Why did Karen Hobbs feel nervous when using ChatGPT's jokes?
A.They were too long and complicated.
B.They were not funny at all.
C.They were stereotypical and lacked originality.
D.They were offensive to her audience.
29.Why do many jokes come from a male perspective in online materials?
A.AI prefers male perspectives.
B.Women don't like telling jokes.
C.Men control the comedy industry.
D.Men are more humorous than women
30.What can be inferred about AI's ability to tell jokes, according to Professor Les Carr?
A.AI can create completely original jokes.
B.AI can only repeat or slightly modify existing jokes.
C.AI can improvise jokes based on audience feedback.
D.AI can understand the cultural context of jokes perfectly.
31.What does the passage suggest about the future of AI in comedy?
A.AI will never be able to tell jokes effectively.
B.AI may improve but still faces challenges in understanding human context.
C.AI will soon replace human comedians.
D.AI has already mastered the art of improvisation.

Imagine joumeying down the highway when you notice your fuel tank running low.Your GPS indicates 10 gas
stations.Naturally, you want the cheapest option. You pass the first handful and observe their prices before approaching one
with a seemingly good deal.Do you stop, without knowing how sweet the bargains could get up the road?Or do you
continue exploring and risk regret for rejecting the bird in hand? How do you decide when to explore further and when to
decide on a choice?
As a fascinating recent Big Think article explains in detail,no matter what choice you're making.mathematicians
claim the 37 percent rule applies.Spend the first 37 percent of your decision-making process gathering information and
committing to nothing. After that, choose the next option that comes along that's better than everything you've seen before.
This rule gives you the highest probability of making the superior choice.
Applying this precise rule will simplify messy reality. If you've given yourself a month to hunt for a most
comfortable apartment, the 37 percent rule suggests you spend the first third or so of that surveying the market and making
no decisions. If you're hiring an assistant and plan to interview 10 candidates, let the first three go by.Then choose the next
person who beats that first bunch.
What if an absolutely brilliant candidate just happens to be the first one you come across?Following this rule might
end up complaining and wondering."What if?"It is true that matters of the heart aren't logical, and this rule only
maximizes probabilities. It doesn't guarantee success. So if lightning strikes or the angels sing and you're absolutely sure
you've found the perfect match for you, don't let inflexible rules stand in the way.
But even if it's unwise to blindly follow the 37 percent rule in every instance, that doesn't make it unhelpful.
Spending roughly the first third of your decision-making process gathering information can help you resist fear of missing
out.Knowing that you should secure the first candidate who beats the options you previously explored can help you gather
the courage to make decisions.

hugs a new puppy rescued from a shelter. The music builds up,hearts double in size and faith in humanity is restored.
36 Before taking that step, there are a few things to consider.
First is the element of surprise. The timing could be a surprise, but the animal should absolutely not be a surprise. The
decision should be based on many conversations.Everyone involved should understand the long term consequences,
children included.37
Next, you'll choose whether to adopt from a shelter or rescue.38 They are across the country flooded with
lovable animals. They also offer physical locations where you can meet a lot of animals at once.On the other hand, rescues
are smaller and funded by donations. They often rely on fosters to house animals.
39 Applications and their processing times vary and can include tasks like proving that your landlord allows
pets.Check to see if applying online is possible. If you're applying in person, make sure you know what to bring
If you're worried about the huge responsibility of choosing the pet for your child, you can wrap a leash (or a

第二节(共10小题:每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
For you the "Clear and Bright"day that falls in every April might be no more than just another holiday-the fact that
it comes with three days 56 school matters to most students much more than the fact that it is part of the 24 solar
terms.
But the UNESCO has recognized the importance of the 24 solar terms. This ancient system that Chinese people have
used to keep track of the time of year 57_
(add)to the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
on Nov 30.
For starters, you may have heard your mom say:"The sanfu days are almost over. The heat won't be here for long."
The sanfu days are a period of time that 58.(fall)in summer, somewhere between Minor Heat(in July)and
Autumn Equinox (in September). The coldest days,or the sanjiu days.are similar. They cover the 27 days
59
(follow)Winter Solstice.
In some places.solar terms guide people's lives through special foods, cultural events and healthy living
60
(suggest).For example,people from the 61
(north)part of China are in the habit of eating
dumplings on the day of Winter Solstice. And on Start of Autumn, some people treat 62
(they)to a big feast,
especially of meat, something they call "putting on autumn weight",or tieqiubiao.
But no matter 63
differently people celebrate the 24 solar terms, they have been here for a long time and
could last forever.
According to Chinese writer and academic Yu Shicun, unlike many other examples of intangible cultural
heritage-Peking Opera and Chinese Zhusuan, for example-the solar terms are neither regional (nor a type of art or
skill.Instead,the system is a philosophy of time,64
applies to everything. And this means they are
65
(likely)to die out.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Most people think that procrastination is a negative habit. But people like me who routinely put off doing
assignments, are likely to defend our"slower"approach to getting tasks done.
I'm the only procrastination in my family. My parents and sister were all bomn with the"do it right now"gift. They
are always in a rush,as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline.Personally,I prefer a more relaxed pace. When my
parents voiced their concem about my tendencies, saying "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today,""No way!"
I responded, confidently presenting my research as a defense. It said people procrastinated when they need to solve a
problem or commit to a topic or project. In these cases, delaying a decision can be beneficial. This was because our minds
continue to reflect on problems even when we were not actively thinking about them, which could lead to more creative
solutions. My findings filled me with satisfaction and pride. My method of getting things done was just as good as my
sister's...or so I thought.
At school we'd been talking about architecture and design. As part of the final assessment my teacher Mr.Smith
announced an exciting project that each student would have a month to complete. We were expected to choose our
materials, construct a small building and make use of things we had learned in class. Not only would the winners receive
extra credit, but the winning constructions would be proudly displayed in the cafeteria."I have no clue how I could get it
done,"my friend Nate sighed in despair.I didn't say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety but because I was not
nervous at all.I loved hands-on projects!Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria,I was fully convinced that I
would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed was I that I didn't give it a second thought for
weeks.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右:

Before I knew it,I had only one day left for the project.
