A. humorous B. helpful C. shy D. polite
根据“I was surprised to see my friend shouting at her mom.”
2. Huang Xuhua has made a great ________ to our country by devoting his life to the research of nuclear submarines (核潜艇).
A. celebration B. conversation C. contribution D. collection
根据“to our country”可知是为国家作出巨大贡献,make a contribution to“为……作出贡献”,是固定搭配。故选C。
3. —Can children under the age of 12 ride electrical bicycles in our city?
—No, according to the law, they ________.
A. may not B. needn’t C. mustn’t D. shouldn’t

may not可能不;needn’t不必;mustn’t禁止;shouldn’t不应该。根据“No. According to the law”可知,这里的意思是按照法律规定,他们不可以,表示明令禁止的事情,故选C。
4. —Many people living in cities like to live in the country with ________ fresh air and ________ noise.

5. —________ lovely soft toy it is!
—Yes. It’s name is Si Shengsheng, and it is the mascot of the 2025 Spring Festival Gala.
A. What B. How C. What a D. How a
6. —There ________ a science festival next month in our school.

is going to have将要有;is going to be将会是;are going to be将会是;will have将会有。根据“next month”可知应为一般将来时;根据“There...a science festival next month in our school.”可知应为there be句型,表示“某地存在某物”;根据空后“a science festival”为名词单数,谓语动词也应为单数;因此此处there be句型的一般将来时应为“there is going to be”。故选B。
7. —Do you know the latest news about the space exploration?

A special performance called YangBOT amazed many people at the 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. It well mixes traditional culture with modern technology. In the performance, robots were dressed in colorful costumes and danced yangko. They danced very well.
Have you ever thought about a very small robot moving slowly inside your body to help doctors with their work. It’s not something from science fiction. Now, doctors are using robots to do operations. This is because robots can do some work that doctors can’t. These robots carry small cameras, which allow doctors to look inside patients’ bodies. The robots also have tiny scissors and other tools. “It’s like having small hands working inside the patients,” said Dr. Wang from a hospital in Beijing.
Here’s how they work: First, the doctor makes a small opening in a patient’s body. Then, the doctor puts the robot into the patient’s body through this opening. Next, the doctor controls the robot to reach where it needs to go. At last, with the help of the robot, the doctor looks into the patient’s body and starts to work.
The robots have many advantages for doctors and patients. They help to make medical costs lower and make difficult operations faster and easier. They also make it possible for doctors to do operations with less harm to patients’ bodies. So patients can get well sooner.
However, robots are not always flawless. They can be expensive. What’s more, they are just tools to help humans, and they must be used by skilled doctors. Even the best robots can’t do everything that humans can do.
Scientists are trying to make the robots smarter. Maybe one day, robots will be able to do even more than expected for humans. They may become our good helpers in daily life.
29. According to the passage, what do the medical robots carry to help doctors during operations?
A. Large cameras and heavy tools. B. Small cameras and tiny scissors.

B. The way of how the robots work during operations.
C. The places where the robots are used in the hospital.

31. What does the underlined word “flawless” mean?

Chinese shadow puppetry (皮影戏) is a form of traditional Chinese folk drama. It is probably one of the most ancient arts using light and shadow. It is also a mix of many art forms, including painting, music, opera and story-telling. Shadow puppetry was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (非物质文化遗产) List in 2011.
More than 2,000 years ago, Emperor Wu of Han was very sad about the death of his wife. One day, one of his men happened to see some children playing with toys. The shadows of the toys were lively on the floor. Then he had an idea—he made a puppet (偶) of the emperor’s wife. As night fell, he invited the emperor to watch a puppet show. This is believed to be the start of shadow puppetry.
In the Tang Dynasty, shadow puppetry was played by many people in many places around the country. Then in the Yuan Dynasty, it was introduced into West Asian and European countries along the Silk Road. The art form became the most popular in the Qing Dynasty. At that time, it was played in almost every province (省) and in many kinds of celebrations like weddings and birthday dinners.
It is not an easy job to make the puppets. Their body parts are cut separately and then joined together so that they can move freely. During the show, puppetry artists connect the puppets’ most important joints (关节) with sticks. In this way, they can hold the puppets and make the puppets walk, run or dance as they want. Sometimes the puppets could be as lively as living things on the screen.
In fact, most puppetry artists across China don’t get trained and don’t play shadow puppetry as a job. They just play it for fun and love. However, they are still experts (专家) in this field. In recent years, puppetry artists have explored ways to make this ancient art form as popular as it used to be and pass it on to the young, hoping more people can understand its importance and feel its beauty. They also get support from the Chinese government. Thanks to their hard work, Chinese shadow puppetry is becoming great again.
33. According to the passage, when was Chinese shadow puppetry added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List?
A. 2,000 years ago. B. During the Tang Dynasty.
C. In 2011. D. In the Qing Dynasty.
34. Why might shadow puppetry have become the most popular during the Qing Dynasty?
A. Puppets were easier to make at that time.
B. It was played in almost every province and for kinds of celebrations.
C. The government stopped other forms of art.
D. Artists began using modern tools to create puppets.
35. Which statement is TRUE about making shadow puppets?
A. Puppets’ body parts are made as a single piece.
B. Artists use ropes to control the puppets’ joints.
C. Sticks are only used to hold the puppets, not to control their movements.
D. Puppets can move freely because their parts are joined together.
36. What can we infer about most puppetry artists in China today?
A. They perform puppetry mainly out of love and personal interest.
B. They depend on puppetry as their main job.
C. They are all completely trained experts.
D. They refuse to modernize (使现代化) the art form.

One day in November 1647, Jacob Armitage hurried through the New Forest to the house of Arnwood.
“You must leave this house right away,” he said to Edward Beverley. “Come with me to pack (打包) your things. You must come to my home and stay there.”
“But why?” Edward asked the old man. “Why?”
“The King has escaped (逃走) from the prison at Hampton Court,” Jacob explained. “He’s riding south through the forest, and Cromwell’s soldiers (士兵) are searching for him. And I’ve just heard a group of soldiers in the forest talking about Arnwood. They know that your father was the King’s friend, and they’re planning to burn Arnwood tonight, because they think the King is hiding here.”
“Burn Arnwood! They can’t do that! It’s my house, and I’m staying here!” Edward said angrily. He was fourteen years old, the oldest of the four Beverley children.
The Beverley children lived alone at Arnwood, with an old woman who did the cooking and all the work of the house. Their father, Colonel Beverley, was killed when fighting for King Charles I at Naseby in 1645. Before he left home, he asked Jacob, a poor forester who lived near Arnwood, to look after his family. Jacob knew the family well and was happy to do this. And when the children’s mother died a few months later, Jacob came every day to visit the children and to help them.
“My dear boy,” Jacob said, “remember your sisters and brother. The soldiers will shoot (射击) them or burn them in the house. No, no, all of you must come with me.”
In the end, Edward agreed. He and his brother Humphrey, who was twelve, packed their things. Then they put them on Jacob’s horse, White Billy, who was waiting outside.
Jacob told Alice, who was eleven, and Edith, who was eight, that they were going to visit his home in the forest. He did not tell them about the soldiers.
“Edward, here is my key,” said Jacob quietly. “Lock the door of the house and take my gun from the wall. Don’t leave your brother and sisters. I’ll help the cook to pack her things, and then I’ll follow you.”
The four children left the big house and went into the forest with White Billy. It was five o’clock in the afternoon, and already dark. Jacob helped the cook, who hurried away to her family in Lymington, and then he hid in the trees near the house, and waited.
After a while, he heard horses and soldiers arrived. Soon, they were in the gardens and all round the house. A few minutes later, Jacob saw black smoke going up into the sky and then he saw flames (火焰) at the windows. ________
“It is done,” thought Jacob, and he hurried away into the forest. Half an hour later, he arrived at his small house. He looked back and saw the flames of Arnwood shooting higher and higher above the trees.

“Edward here is my key,” said Jacob quietly.
