How to Study for Exams
Taking exams is stressful, but you can make it easier by improving the way you study. Studying for
your exams will keep you from feeling unprepared, and it will set you up for success!
Take good notes.
This is easier said than done, but learning how to take good notes will help you once it comes time to
study. Write down everything your teacher writes on the blackboard or puts up in slides (幻灯片).
1. D
Turn on the light.
Studying in a dark room is not recommended. 2. E People tend to study and focus better in a
brighter room with little noise.
3. B
Think of your teacher: What is my teacher most likely to ask on the exam? What materials did the
teacher emphasize(强调) before exams? This may help you review the most important information for the
exams.
Take breaks.
You need some time to take breaks and it is better to study when you are feeling relaxed than to
exhaust(使筋疲力尽) yourself studying all day! 4. C Usually, a 20~30 minutes of study and then a
5-minute break is the most effective.
Do the questions you know first.
If you dont know the answer to the question, do the next one and come back to it in the end.
Struggling and concentrating on a question you dont know the answer to can be time-consuming(耗时的),
which makes you lose marks.
A. Review slowly before exams.
B. Think of your teacher and review well.
C. Carefully plan your break and study time.
D. Try to record as much of what the teacher says as possible.
E. Add lights at night, or in the daytime, open the window coverings.

Video cameras are everywhere: schools, theaters and stores. But in recent years, they have entered
our homes. Many parents set up cameras at home to watch their childrens online classes and homework.
Are cameras really helpful? What do students think about it? We invited two students to share their
thoughts.
Peter
When I was in Grade 8, I liked to lie in bed
and watch videos instead of studying. This affected
(影响) my studies and made my grades worse. So
my parents set up a camera to keep an eye on me.
It worked. With the camera watching, I had to
do my homework first and make plans for studying
at home. When I was alone at home, the camera
made me feel safe because I knew that my parents
were watching on the other side. My grades
improved after a year.
Mary
Earlier this year, my parents set up a camera
in my room. I really didnt like it because I felt
like there were always eyes watching me. I felt so
uncomfortable that I couldnt sleep well at night.
Knowing there was a camera around when my
friends came to my home, they would speak
quietly and carefully. We couldnt have pillow
fights. I was sad. So I asked my parents to take the
camera away. They agreed it as long as I promised
to behave well. I feel happy and free now.
1. Why do many parents set up cameras at home?
2. When did Peters parents set up a camera in his room?
3. What happened to Peter after his parents set up a camera?
4. Whats your opinion about setting up cameras at home? Why? Write 30 words or more.
