Do you know the reason why we feel tired in the middle of a class? Maybe you would say it is because
the teachers class is boring. 1. E Perhaps this is something you have not paid enough attention to or
not yet noticed.
Purpose of sleep
Why do we need sleep? Sleep helps our body heal(修复), grow, and stay healthy. It also gives us
energy, so we can be active all day. Doctors and health scientists say, “When you close your eyes and
need to rest, sleep is just the very best!” 2. C
Sleep time
Enough sleep is important to us. New-born babies sleep most of the time. Children need 10~12 hours
of sleep a day. Teenagers need 8~10 hours of sleep a day. Grown-ups usually need 6~8 hours of sleep to
keep active. 3. D That is why old people sleep less than young people.
Interesting facts
Almost everyone has their dreams while they sleep, but not all of them can tell their dreams clearly
when they wake up. Some people talk in their dreams. More surprisingly, some may even get up in their
dreams and walk around. This is called “sleepwalking”.
4. B
Its not just people that love to snooze(打盹). In fact, many animals have unusual sleeping habits.
Bears and hedgehogs(刺猬) sleep all through winter. The swift is a very fast bird that can sleep while it
flies! Giraffes dont need much sleep at all. They usually sleep standing up.
A. The best sleep
B. Sleepy animals
C. This is more than advice.
D. The older you get, the less sleep you will need.

Still, there are other deep 7. (meaning) in the practice. Nonviolence(非暴力) is one
value, which 8. (show) both in the name and practice of kung fu. The Chinese character wu has
two parts—the first part ge, meaning “to fight”, and the 9. ( two) part zhi, meaning “to stop”.
So the meaning of kung fu in Chinese is the art of stopping fighting, the art of nonviolence. Kung fu artists
always greet people with baoquan. This 10. ( let) each person know that there are no hidden
weapons(武器) and shows trust as well as respect.
“The values of kung fu are in the minds of all Chinese people,” Brahm told Xinhua.
三、阅读与表达(1~3 小题,每小题 2 分,4 小题 4 分;满分 10 分)
Are you an “I person” or an “E person”? These two personality labels(个
性标签) are discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called
the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters,
and there are 16 results in total. “I” stands for “introverted” and “E” refers to
“extroverted”.
Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an “I” person can still act
outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they
might become more social like an “E” person. According to experts, this is called “masking”. That is
hiding your true personality. Because human beings want to get the sense of belonging by pleasing others.
Using the MBTI result to describe someones personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one
time. My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P
people” dont like to make plans, so I said to her, “You dont seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” she
asked back. “ Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then I
realized Id taken the result too seriously.
The MBTI personality test may show something you dont know about yourself and can even be a ice-
breaker question when meeting new friends. Knowing someones MBTI result doesnt mean you really know
this person. And those four letters of yours dont define(定义) who you are.
1. How many personality label results are there in the personality test?
2. What does the word “masking” in Paragraph 2 mean in English?
3. Why did the writer mention the conversation with his / her sister?
4. Do you think MBTI personality test is fun? Why? Write 30 words or more.
