I know that many of you are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time. Job interviews can be an enormously stressful experience, but like most things, interviewing is a skill, not a talent, and a little practice goes a long, long way. I know many of you feel nervous just as the thought of being interviewed, but you need to remember that you've been invited for an interview because your potential employers think you'd be suitable for the job, so have a little confidence in yourself. The best thing you can do is be prepared and professional, which will help you make a strong first impression. Before an interview, you should always review your resume and application, which is why I ask you all to bring an outline of your achievements academic. Otherwise, up to now, you'll be needing that later. Once your resume is solid, then you can start preparing for possible interview questions. I'm going to hand out a list of those questions. Now you need to think about how you'd answer each of them. Don't bother making notes. You can't bring notes to an interview. Okay, that's all. Does anyone have any questions for me? High school ended and all I remembered was feeling stuck. Most of my peers (同龄人) had picked out their majors and some even planned their careers. But I was still wondering about that.
I’ve always enjoyed writing but didn’t know how to make a career out of it. After researching my options, such as journalism, I thought Professional Communications could improve my writing skills and lead me to a career in business. With that, I sent in my application, was accepted and started preparing for my first term of university.
When course intentions rolled around, I began looking at the list of minors. Marketing caught my attention. It would complement (补充) my communications degree while providing me with the necessary business courses that were outside of the program. Without hesitation, I scheduled marketing into my studies, with the goal of using that newfound knowledge to accompany the technical skills that my major would provide me with.
My school year began in a pretty typical way: the orientation week (迎新周), joining clubs and meeting new people. As time went on, I found myself enjoying the marketing courses more than the communications courses, and it was then that I first began to consider making a change. Finally, I spoke with a friend who had switched to a different major, and his words of encouragement were the final push I needed to go through with the decision. A few days later, I sent in my application, and soon I received my acceptance letter.
I’ve now been gifted with a wonderful start to the year, and I couldn’t be happier about making the change. I feel less pressured to “find myself” and can put 110% effort into my studies. A note to high school students: University brings with it a load of new beginnings and self-reflection. It’s perfectly fine to come into university thinking you want one thing and finding out along the way that it might not be the right path for you.

A. The active encouragement from a friend.
B. Reduced interest in communications.
C. The growing passion for marketing courses.
D. Access to numerous new opportunities.
27. What does the author advise high school students to do?
A. Think twice about major selection.
B. Be open to changing academic paths.
C. Concentrate all their efforts on study.
D. Engage in self-reflection consistently.

Over the past 300 years,1.5 billion hectares of forest have been lost, resulting in biodiversity loss, desertification, and increased flooding risks.
In the book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explains while the solution to forest clearing might appear straightforward — simply plant millions of trees — the reality is far more confusing. Random tree planting can threaten ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities.
This engaging book mainly reveals how well-developed approaches are required — one that integrates the latest scientific advancements, for instance. Treewilding asks us to reflect on our interconnectedness with the woods, a realization that is perhaps the biggest “secret” to restoring nature.
Tree-planting initiatives have exploded since the turn of the century. Globally, the area of planted forests rose from 170 million hectares in 1990 to 293 million hectares in 2020. However, unless thoroughly researched and well organized, tree planting can backfire.
Often, only one type of tree is planted across pieces of land. This reduces biodiversity, in terms of plant species and the wildlife and microorganisms (微生物) associated with them. Because trees of the same species can all fall victim to the same diseases, a whole forest can be wiped out at once. Moreover, non-native trees can win out over local species, disturbing the local balanced ecosystems.
To solve environmental crises, Robinson advocates a more informed strategy. He speaks to Forrest Fleischman, a specialist in forest and environmental policy, who highlights how local people depend on forests for highly self-sufficient agricultural activities. Fleischman also proposes that locals know well what species are best suited to the environment and how these species are interconnected with the local wildlife and ecosystem.
The author also describes the concept of ecoacoustics The approach uses the sounds made by organisms including birds and bats to explore the composition of and changes in ecosystems. Working with ecoacoustics specialist Carlos Abrahams, Robinson concludes that as forests are recovered, the number of animals hidden in the soil increases, producing an “underground soundscape — a hidden symphony of life”.
Robinson ultimately emphasizes natural regeneration — just as a phoenix (a mythical bird) is reborn from its own ashes, a damaged forest can regenerate itself.
28. What is the main focus of Jake Robinson’s Treewilding?
A. The importance of technology in modern agriculture.
B. The changes of global forests over the past 300 years.
C. Major benefits of maintaining healthy ecosystems.
D. Effective methods in solving the loss of forests.
29. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “backfire” in paragraph 4?
A. Lead to negative outcomes. B. Produce predictable results.
C. Facilitate relevant initiatives. D. Encourage sustainable growth.
30. What might Fleischman expect tree-planting organizers to do?
A. Increase the number of non-native species.
B. Standardize planting practices across different regions.
C. Take account of natives’ knowledge in planting processes.
D Encourage locals to adopt advanced agricultural methods.
31. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Forest Clearing Poses a Serious Threat to Us
B. Repairing Forests Is More Than Just Planting Trees
C. Natural Regeneration Is the Key to Ecosystem Restoration
D. The Underground Soundscape Allows Us to Know Nature Better
D
There’s a popular saying that if only one voice is allowed to exist, then that one voice must be lie. This quote couldn’t be more relevant now, as many businesses and platforms are using shady practices to silence negative feedback and ensure only those voices benefiting them remain. This practice is the so-called “artificial review boosting”, and has been influencing objectivity in reviews ever since.
Its origin dates back to the 20th century when businesses would hand out free samples to obtain a better reputation. However, the practice rises to a new extreme with the emergence of e-commerce platforms. Many online businesses do whatever it takes to ensure high-rating scores, either through giving bonuses and rewards to customers who leave a good review or through bothering and threatening those who leave a negative one. This behavior is not only morally corrupt but also illegal, and it is absurd that many consumers feel they can’t leave negative feedback out of fear that businesses will cause troubles.
It’s apparent that this problem is getting out of hand, but how can we fix it? Regulator intervention would certainly help. There should be a tougher crackdown on illegal practices, and e-commerce platforms should be required to protect the privacy of their users. Nevertheless, this accounts for only part of the reason, as the rating system as a whole needs restructuring. Because this system rewards dishonest sellers rather than those selling quality products, and e-commerce platforms, with their profits unaffected, turn a blind eye to its faults.
Against all odds, honest feedback has persisted and people who voice their true opinions still exist, but they are becoming rarer. There’s an old saying that if you put a frog in boiling water, it will leap out, but if you cook the frog slowly in warm water, it won’t notice being cooked alive. We consumers are just like frogs — it’s easy for us to fight together against terrible acts robbing our freedom, but we often ignore when the same freedom is gradually taken from us. There will be no grand coup de grace (致命一击) that ends honest feedback. Companies will just let it fade away slowly but we mustn’t allow that to happen because consumers play a more important role in keeping honest feedback.
32. Why does the author quote a saying in the first paragraph?
A. To define artificial review boosting.
B. To criticize businesses and platforms.
C. To lead in the discussion of a social phenomenon.
D. To contrast negative feedback and positive feedback.
33. What is the underlying reason for the existence of artificial review boosting according to the passage?
A. The desire for better reputation among businesses.
B. The emergence of e-commerce platforms.
C. The lack of effective regulations and a well-developed rating system.
D. The consumers’ fear of leaving negative feedback.
34. The author mentions “There will be no grand coup de grace that ends honest feedback” to suggest that _________.
A. honest feedback will disappear suddenly
B. the decline of honest feedback is a gradual process
C. companies are planning a major move to eliminate honest feedback
D. consumers have the power to stop the disappearance of honest feedback
35. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce the origin of “artificial review boosting”.
B To expose the illegal practices of online businesses.
C. To analyze the reasons for the decline of honest feedback.
D. To call on consumers to protect honest feedback.

Claustrophobia
Claustrophobia, or fear of enclosed spaces, is one of the most common fears.Claustrophobia can be deep fear or even panic as a result of being in a small space.
Claustrophobia can develop after a troubling childhood experience (such as being trapped in a small space during a childhood game), or from another unpleasant experience later on in life related to small spaces (such as being stuck in a lift). ___36___ This response then becomes programmed in the brain, making an association between being in a tight space and feeling anxious or out-of-control. As a result, the person often develops claustrophobia.
According to Mark Powers, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology at Southern Methodist University, “Claustrophobia is a specific fear and not a type of panic disorder. The primary specific danger forecasts for claustrophobia are that either the person will be trapped or run out of air.”
___37___Claustrophobia symptoms can include: sweating, accelerated heartbeat, upset stomach, passing out, light-headedness, shaking, breathing problem, etc.
Some common situations can cause anxiety in claustrophobia sufferers. The claustrophobia sufferer will look for an exit when inside a room, avoid driving on the highway or major roads where there is heavy traffic when inside a car, avoid taking lifts when inside a building, or stand near a door when at a party. ___38___
Claustrophobia can have harmful social and psychological effects, since the patient will often avoid situations in which she thinks she will have an anxiety attack, leading to hiding and sadness.
___39___According to Dr. Powers, “Exposure treatment, a form of mind-behavioral treatment, usually results in a total reduction in anxiety symptoms if conducted properly.”
Flooding is a type of exposure treatment in which the person is exposed to a situation until the anxiety attack passes; a less extreme form of exposure treatment is counter-conditioning. Counter conditioning includes behavior treatment, as the person is taught visualization and relaxation techniques before being slowly reintroduced to the cause situation.
___40___Medications to help treat claustrophobia include things which help to ease the heart pounding often associated with anxiety attacks.
A. The good news is that claustrophobia is very treatable.
B. The past experience can trace back to the moment of birth.
C. According to some doctors, claustrophobia is worse than the fear of heights.
D. When a person experiences such an event, it can often cause a frightening panic attack.
E. In extreme cases, the very sight of a closed door can lead to feelings of anxiety in a person.
F. Treatment for claustrophobia can also include medication or a combination of several treatments.
G. When a person with claustrophobia finds herself in a restricted space, her body responds in certain ways.

One fall,my wife Elli and I had a single goal:to photograph polar bears. We were staying at a research camp outside"the polar bear capital of the world”-the town of Churchill in Manitoba, Canada.
Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous.Polar bears-like all wild animals-should be photographed from a safe distance. When I'm face to face with a polar bear,I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times.
As Elli and I cooked dinner,a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread.
The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire.He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts.
Terrified,Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew.We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off.Not this polar bear though-he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws(爪子)
I radioed the camp manager for help.He told me a helicopter was on its way,but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived.Making the best of this close encounter(相遇),I took some pictures or the bear.
Eilt and I feared the fence wouldn't last through 30 more minutes of the bear's punishment. The camp manager suggested I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears' eyes, but doesn't hurt them. So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and.through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar(吼叫),the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes.
Para 1.
A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp.
Para 2.
At that very moment, the helicopter arrived.

W: I’m really glad to see so many people signed up for this workshop. With graduation coming up soon, I know that many of you are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time. Job interviews can be an enormously stressful experience, but like most things, interviewing is a skill, not a talent, and a little practice goes a long way.
I know many of you feel nervous just at the thought of being interviewed, but you need to remember that you’ve been invited for an interview because your potential employers think you’d be suitable for the job. So, have a little confidence in yourself. The best thing you can do is be prepared and professional, which will help you make a strong first impression.
Before an interview, you should always review your resume and application, which is why I asked you all to bring an outline of your achievements, academic or otherwise, up to now.
You’ll be needing that later. Once your resume is solid, then you can start preparing for possible interview questions. I’m going to hand out a list of those questions now. You need to think about how you’d answer each of them. Don’t bother making notes — you can’t bring notes to an interview. OK, that’s all, does anyone have any questions for me?

24. Why was the author at a loss after high school?
A. She suffered from a lack of confidence.
B. She fell behind her peers in performance.
C. She was afraid to choose a wrong university.
D. She struggled to decide a future direction.
25. Which aspect of marketing attracted the author?
A. Its business courses. B. Its exciting career opportunities.
C. Its stress on technical skills. D. Its courses related to writing.
26. What led the author to think about changing her major?
D 25. A 26. C 27. B

根据第一段中的“High school ended and all I remembered was feeling stuck. Most of my peers (同龄人) had picked out their majors and some even planned their careers. But I was still wondering about that. (高中结束了,我只记得被困住了。我的大多数同龄人都选择了自己的专业,有些人甚至计划了自己的职业生涯。但我仍对此感到疑惑。)”可知,作者在高中毕业后感到迷茫主要是因为她在确定未来方向上遇到了难题。故选D项。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“It would complement (补充) my communications degree while providing me with the necessary business courses that were outside of the program. Without hesitation, I scheduled marketing into my studies, with the goal of using that newfound knowledge to accompany the technical skills that my major would provide me with. (它将补充我的沟通学位,同时为我提供课程之外的必要商业课程。我毫不犹豫地将市场营销纳入我的学习计划,目的是利用新学到的知识来配合我的专业将为我提供的技术技能。)”可知,作者认为市场营销能够作为她传播学学位的补充,同时也能提供课程之外的必要的商业知识,也就是说市场营销对作者的吸引力主要在于它的商业课程。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段中的“As time went on, I found myself enjoying the marketing courses more than the communications courses, and it was then that I first began to consider making a change. (随着时间的推移,我发现自己更喜欢营销课程而不是沟通课程,就在那时,我第一次开始考虑做出改变。)”可知,作者在大学期间发现自己更喜欢营销课程,而不是最初选择的传播学课程,这促使作者考虑转专业。故选C项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“It’s perfectly fine to come into university thinking you want one thing and finding out along the way that it might not be the right path for you. C
D. Encourage locals to adopt advanced agricultural methods.
D 29. A 30. C 31. B

根据第二段“In the book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explains while the solution to forest clearing might appear straightforward — simply plant millions of trees — the reality is far more confusing. Random tree planting can threaten ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities.(在《Treewilding》一书中,生态学家杰克·罗宾逊解释说,虽然解决森林砍伐问题的方法似乎很简单——只需种植数百万棵树——但现实要复杂得多。
根据划线词所在句“However, unless thoroughly researched and well organized, tree planting can backfire.(然而,除非进行彻底的调查和组织,否则植树可能会……)”和下文“Often, only one type of tree is planted across pieces of land. This reduces biodiversity, in terms of plant species and the wildlife and microorganisms (微生物) associated with them. Because trees of the same species can all fall victim to the same diseases, a whole forest can be wiped out at once. Moreover, non native trees can win out over local species, disturbing the local balanced ecosystems.(通常,在一片片土地上只种植一种树。这会减少生物多样性,包括植物物种以及与之相关的野生动物和微生物。因为同一物种的树木都可能成为同一种疾病的受害者,整个森林可能会一下子被摧毁。此外,外来树木可能会胜过本地物种,扰乱当地的生态平衡)”中对随意植树带来的不良后果的介绍可推知,如果没有经过彻底的调查和组织就随意植树,植树就会“导致负面的结果”,所以backfire与意思一致A项“Lead to negative outcomes.”。故选A项。
根据第六段中“He speaks to Forrest Fleischman, a specialist in forest and environmental policy, who highlights how local people depend on forests for highly self sufficient agricultural activities. Fleischman also proposes that locals know well what species are best suited to the environment and how these species are interconnected with the local wildlife and ecosystem.(他与森林和环境政策专家福雷斯特·弗莱施曼交谈,弗莱施曼强调了当地人如何依靠森林进行高度自给自足的农业活动。弗莱施曼还提出,当地人很清楚哪些物种最适合当地环境,以及这些物种与当地野生动物和生态系统是如何相互关联的)”可知,弗莱施曼认为当地人很清楚哪些物种最适合当地环境,以及这些物种与当地野生动物和生态系统是如何相互关联的,由此推知,他会希望植树组织者在植树过程中考虑当地人的知识。故选C项。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段中“In the book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explains while the solution to forest clearing might appear straightforward — simply plant millions of trees — the reality is far more confusing. Random tree planting can threaten ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities.(在《Treewilding》一书中,生态学家杰克·罗宾逊解释说,虽然解决森林砍伐问题的方法似乎很简单——只需种植数百万棵树——但现实要复杂得多。随意植树会威胁生态系统和当地社区的生计)”以及后面提到植树要考虑科学成果、当地人的知识、采用生态声学等多种因素来解决森林问题,而不只是单纯种树。所以“Repairing Forests Is More Than Just Planting Trees(修复森林不仅仅是种树)”能概括文章主旨,最适合做文章标题。故选B项。

34. The author mentions “There will be no grand coup de grace that ends honest feedback” to suggest that _________.

D. consumers have the power to stop the disappearance of honest feedback
35. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce the origin of “artificial review boosting”.

C 33. C 34. B 35. D
根据第一段“There’s a popular saying that if only one voice is allowed to exist, then that one voice must be lie. This quote couldn’t be more relevant now, as many businesses and platforms are using shady practices to silence negative feedback and ensure only those voices benefiting them remain.(有一句流行语说,如果只允许一个声音存在;那么那个声音一定是谎言。这句话现在再贴切不过了,因为许多企业和平台正在使用不正当的手段来压制负面反馈,确保只有那些对他们有利的声音存在)”可知,作者在第一段引用一句谚语是为了引出关于一些企业和平台使用不正当手段来压制负面反馈的社会现象的讨论。故选C。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Regulator intervention would certainly help. There should be a tougher crackdown on illegal practices, and e-commerce platforms should be required to protect the privacy of their users. Nevertheless, this accounts for only part of the reason, as the rating system as a whole needs restructuring. Because this system rewards dishonest sellers rather than those selling quality products, and e-commerce platforms, with their profits unaffected, turn a blind eye to its faults.(监管机构的干预肯定会有所帮助。应该更严厉地打击非法行为,并且应该要求电子商务平台保护用户的隐私。然而,这仅仅是部分原因,因为整个评级体系需要进行重构。因为这个体系奖励的是不诚信的卖家,而不是那些销售优质产品的卖家,而且电子商务平台在自身利润不受影响的情况下,对评级体系的缺陷视而不见)”可知,人工刷好评现象存在的根本原因缺乏有效监管和完善的评分系统。故选C。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Companies will just let it fade away slowly but we mustn’t allow that to happen because consumers play a more important role in keeping honest feedback.(公司只会让真实反馈慢慢消失,但我们绝不能让这种情况发生,因为消费者在维护真实反馈方面起着更为重要的作用)”可知,诚实的反馈不会因为一次重大的打击就消失,公司会让它慢慢消失,即诚实反馈的减少是一个逐渐的过程。
根据最后一段“There will be no grand coup de grace that ends honest feedback. Companies will just let it fade away slowly but we mustn’t allow that to happen because consumers play a more important role in keeping honest feedback.(诚实的反馈不会因为一次重大的打击就消失。
D 37. G 38. E 39. A 40. F
Claustrophobia can develop after a troubling childhood experience (such as being trapped in a small space during a childhood game), or from another unpleasant experience later on in life related to small spaces (such as being stuck in a lift). When a person experiences such an event, it can often cause a frightening panic attack.(当一个人经历这样的事件时,往往会引起可怕的恐慌)符合题意。
Claustrophobia symptoms can include: sweating, accelerated heartbeat, upset stomach, passing out, light-headedness, shaking, breathing problem, etc. When a person with claustrophobia finds herself in a restricted space, her body responds in certain ways.(当患有幽闭恐惧症的人发现自己身处一个有限的空间时,她的身体会以某种方式做出反应)一致。
The claustrophobia sufferer will look for an exit when inside a room, avoid driving on the highway or major roads where there is heavy traffic when inside a car, avoid taking lifts when inside a building, or stand near a door when at a party. In extreme cases, the very sight of a closed door can lead to feelings of anxiety in a person.(在极端的情况下,一个人看到一扇紧闭的门就会感到焦虑)符合题意。
Exposure treatment, a form of mind-behavioral treatment, usually results in a total reduction in anxiety symptoms if conducted properly. A项The good news is that claustrophobia is very treatable.(好消息是幽闭恐怖症是可以治疗的)符合题意。故选A。
Medications to help treat claustrophobia include things which help to ease the heart pounding often associated with anxiety attacks. Treatment for claustrophobia can also include medication or a combination of several treatments.(幽闭恐怖症的治疗也可以包括药物治疗或几种疗法的组合)与本段意义一致。
如表示转折关系的but,though, however,因果关系如because,so,,as a result等。

A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. Roars and screams pierced the silence with needle-like shrillness. The noises turned Elli and I pale with horror. I feared that the giant would destroy our whole fence. He roared repeatedly, shattering what was left of the silence. Elli seized this opportunity to take somepictures of the bear. The animal’s noises echoed all around us. We betrayed our feelings by huddling together, shivering with fear. After thoroughly scrutinizing the area, he trotted forward a few steps.
At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. My heart leaped with joy as I knew we were likely to be saved. Elli used pepper spray again to buy us enough time. But this time the bear became more alert. He regarded us with the merciless necessity of hunger, so we throw all the food we have. He then turned away and started devouring. As we were climbing the rope ladder, Elli prayed like thousand times to show thankfulness of being safe and sound.
接下来可通过场景渲染,描写当时令人颤栗惊恐的画面,例如“Roars and screams pierced the silence with needle-like shrillness.”
如果想要进行续写两段的合理衔接,第一段的结尾可描写成“After thoroughly scrutinizing the area, the bear trotted forward a few steps.” “我们”看到直升机的到来,感到绝处逢生的喜悦,可以以人物心理描写作为第二段的开头,重点描写喜极而泣的状态,例如“My heart leaped with joy as I knew we were likely to be saved.”
Roars and screams pierced the silence with needle-like shrillness.,又如He roared repeatedly, shattering what was left of the silence.,这不仅合理地描写了熊的动作,也渲染出让人战栗的场景,让读者有极强的代入感;再如As we were climbing the rope ladder, Elli prayed like thousand times to show thankfulness of being safe and sound.
