After defeating Feng Xiaocan in a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tournament in November, China’s mixed martial arts (MMA, 综合格斗) fighter Shi Ming became more famous for not just her athletic performance, but also her identity as a traditional Chinese medicine doctor.
Her journey into the world of martial arts began at college when she joined her university’s martial arts team, focusing on Sanda, a Chinese sport that combines kickboxing and wrestling (摔跤) techniques. With natural talent and hard work, she quickly succeeded in local competitions. But her introduction to MMA in 2017 marked a turning point. Under the guidance of US wrestling coach Bagher Amanolahi, Shi immersed herself in mastering MMA’s various techniques. Her efforts soon paid off as she moved from local competitions to the global stage.
While her rise in MMA has been impressive, what makes her unique is her ability to balance two demanding careers. Born in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province in 1994, Shi followed in her grandparents’ footsteps into traditional Chinese medicine. Her days often start with early-morning hospital shifts, followed by concentrated evening training. Shi believes her two roles go well together. She said, “In martial arts, you learn to respect your competitors and understand their motivations (动机). In medicine, you treat patients with the same respect and curiosity.”
Over time, Shi promoted her MMA skills and earned a spot in the UFC, the world’s most important MMA organization. This was motivated by her ambition (抱负) of becoming a fighter like Zhang Weili, the first Chinese UFC world champion.
Now her journey of martial arts continues. “I have a great wrestling coach, a strong training team, and I apply myself to my medical and fighting careers,” she said. “I believe I will continue to pass each test that comes my way.”

C. She dreams of being the first Chinese UFC world champion.
D. She wants to join the world’s most important MMA organization.
27. Which word best describes Shi?

If you lack time to exercise during the working week, don’t worry. A study of nearly 90,000 participants in the UK suggests that putting all your weekly exercise on weekends still has significant health benefits compared with being inactive. In this study, participants who cram all their recommended weekly physical activity into one or two days are referred to as “weekend warriors”.
The researchers collected data from 89,573 volunteers by requiring them to wear a wrist device (手腕设备) to track their weekly physical activity. These participants were then divided into three groups based on their exercise patterns (模式): regular exercisers, who spread their exercise throughout the week; weekend warriors, who did most of their exercise in one day or two; and inactive participants. After grouping the participants, the researchers compared their health records to examine the related health benefits.
The study found that, compared with those who were inactive, weekend warriors and regular exercisers experienced similar health benefits, with both groups having a lower risk of developing more than 200 diseases. Specifically, the strongest effects were for cardiometabolic diseases. Both groups had a 20%lower risk of high blood pressure and a 40%lower risk of diabetes.
Dr. Shaan Khurshid, a cardiologist at Massachusetts general hospital in Boston, who led the study, said, “It shows that, for health benefits, it’s really the amount of physical activity rather than its frequency that matters. The key is, however you are going to get that amount, do it in the way that works for you.”
Khurshid also mentioned the need for more research to explore whether the “weekend warrior” workout pattern could help people reach their activity goals more easily. “It might be more convenient for some people and help them follow public health advice better,” he said.
28. What does the underlined word “cram” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Pack. B. Break. C. Divide. D. Turn.
29. How did the researchers test the health benefits in the three groups?
A. By checking their physical health. B. By comparing their health records.
C. By reviewing their exercise records. D. By examining their workout patterns.
30. According to Dr. Khurshid, what is more important for health benefits?
A. How often you exercise each week. B. How long you exercise each time.
C. How much exercise you do each week D. How much effort you put into exercise.
31 What can we infer about the “weekend warrior” workout pattern?
A. It follows public health advice.
B. It might suit people with busy schedules.
C. It could help people reach their workout goals.
D. It will soon be promoted as the best exercise plan.
D
“An increase of just 2 ℃ in global temperatures could make the world much drier and more desert-like,” new research has warned.
According to it, more than a quarter of the world’s land surface would become drier and wildfires could be widespread. The most affected areas are parts of South East Asia, Southern Europe, Southern Africa, Central America and Southern Australia. These areas are home to more than 20 percent of the world’s population — that’s over 1.5 billion people. However, scientists found that limiting global warming to 1.5 ℃ would greatly reduce the percentage of the Earth’s surface affected.
“Aridification (干旱化) would emerge over 20 to 30 percent of the world’s land surface by the time the global temperature change reaches 2 ℃,” said Dr. Manoj Joshi from the University of East Anglia’s school of Environmental Sciences and one of the study’s co-author. The study looked at the present rate of global temperature increase and compared it to data from before the industrial revolution (工业革命). The world has already warmed by 1℃ since then.
The Paris Agreement, which was first signed in 2015, is an international agreement to control climate change. It hopes to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 ℃ and to take efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 ℃. In June, President Trump, however, announced his intention for the US, the second largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world, to withdraw from the agreement.
Drought is one of the biggest concerns in some parts of the world, where rainfall is rare and water is not enough. Some parks of Kenya, for example, can go an entire year without a drop of rain.
32. What will happen if the global temperature increases by 1.5 ℃?
A. Many areas of the world will become much drier.
B. The percentage of the Earth’s affected surface will be lower.
C. The greenhouse effect will be far worse.
D. Many people will leave their home for safer places.
33. Which country is most likely to be affected by aridification?
A. China B. Russia
C. Canada D. Philippine
34. What is Dr. Manoj’s attitude towards the global temperature change?
A. Doubtful B. Supportive
C. Concerned D. Unclear
35. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. To call on every country to control greenhouse gases.
B. To encourage every country to protect the earth.
C. To introduce the possible effect of climate change.
D. To raise some suggestions on preventing climate change.

I lost all my hair at age two due to alopecia (脱发). At school, I wore a wig (假发), and it made me feel very different from everyone else. Despite this, I found comfort in sports. I loved playing basketball and was good at it. Every day after school, I would race home and play basketball in my driveway for hours. When I played, I didn’t think about my alopecia or my bald head. Instead, I thought about who I wanted to become and what I wanted to achieve.
As I got better at basketball, people started to notice me for my skills. I became known as the girl who was good at basketball. I focused all my time and energy on becoming the best basketball player I could be. I had big dreams and was determined not to let anything, including my alopecia, hold me back.
In junior high school, I had a great career and broke many school records. When I got to senior high school, I met Mr Smith, the best teacher I had ever had. He was very outgoing and seemed to understand how I felt. However, I still didn’t feel comfortable talking about my alopecia and just wanted to be like everyone else. The only thing that made me happy was playing basketball and improving my skills. It helped me forget about my alopecia and made my classmates respect me.
One day, I heard that our school team was choosing new members. I signed up and was excited to have a chance to show my skills. I trained harder than ever. But before the selection day, I heard someone had known my secret about alopecia.
Even though I was worried, I knew that basketball had given me the strength and confidence to face any challenge. I was ready to show everyone what I could do, no matter what they thought about my hair.

Now, her journey of martial arts continues. “I have a great wrestling coach, a strong training team, and I apply myself to my medical and fighting careers,” she said. “I believe I will continue to pass each test that comes my way.”

31. What can we infer about the “weekend warrior” workout pattern?
A. It follows public health advice.
B. It might suit people with busy schedules.
C. It could help people reach their workout goals.
D. It will soon be promoted as the best exercise plan.
【答案】28. A 29. B 30. C 31. B

A. China B. Russia
C Canada D. Philippine
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. C

A Few Simple Ways to Get Inspired
Many creative people are famous for their strange ways of finding inspiration (灵感). Inspiration is not easy to get, so it’s no wonder people chase (追逐) after it in strange ways. But you don’t have to go to extremes. ___36___
Keep an idea book or an inspiration board.
Inspiration might not come all at once. ___37___ With an idea book or a vision board, you can keep track of these puzzle pieces and use them to find inspiration later on. If you like working with words, create an idea book where you can write down ideas. If you’ re more visual (视觉的), take pictures that inspire you and turn them into a vision board.
___38___
Many people go to sleep and wake up inspired. While most sleep refreshes your brain, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is especially good at prompting (推动) inspiration. Alternating between REM and non-REM sleep helps your brain reshape networks, making you more likely to think up ideas when you wake up.
Spend time in nature.
___39___ And nature has inspired a long line of artists. E. B. White came up with the story for Charlotte’s Web after watching a spider make her net. Researchers have also found that spending time in nature improves cognitive (认知的) ability, setting you up to make more connections between ideas.
Play and laugh.

【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了获得灵感的几个方法。
【36题详解】
根据上文“Many creative people are famous for their strange ways of finding inspiration (灵感). Inspiration is not easy to get, so it’s no wonder people chase (追逐) after it in strange ways. But you don’t have to go to extremes.(许多有创造力的人以他们寻找灵感的奇怪方式而闻名。灵感不容易得到,所以难怪人们用奇怪的方式追求它。但你不必走极端)”以及后文主要介绍了获得灵感的几个方法。故G选项“当你的创造力枯竭时,你可以试试下面这些方法”符合语境,故选G。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Inspiration might not come all at once.(灵感可能不会一蹴而就)”可知,上文提到灵感可能不会一蹴而就,说明灵感的到来有一个过程。E选项“你可能会经历一些微小的灵光一闪,它们最终会发展成宏大的事物”承接上文并呼应下文“With an idea book or a vision board, you can keep track of these puzzle pieces and use them to find inspiration later on.(通过一本创意笔记或一张愿景板,你可以记录下这些零散的想法,并在日后用它们来寻找灵感)”,符合语境,故选E。
【38题详解】
根据本段内容“Many people go to sleep and wake up inspired. While most sleep refreshes your brain, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is especially good at prompting (推动) inspiration. Alternating between REM and non-REM sleep helps your brain reshape networks, making you more likely to think up ideas when you wake up.(许多人入睡后,醒来时都充满灵感。虽然大多数睡眠都能让你的大脑焕然一新,但快速眼动(REM)睡眠尤其能激发灵感。在快速眼动和非快速眼动睡眠之间交替可以帮助你的大脑重塑网络,让你在醒来时更容易想出新点子)”可知,本段的建议是通过睡觉获得灵感。故A选项“去睡觉”符合语境,故选A。
【39题详解】
根据后文“And nature has inspired a long line of artists. E. B. White came up with the story for Charlotte’s Web after watching a spider make her net. Researchers have also found that spending time in nature improves cognitive (认知的) ability, setting you up to make more connections between ideas.(大自然也启发了一大批艺术家。E.

【答案】At the deepest of my sadness, Mr Smith came. He patted me on the shoulder, saying quietly, “Lindsay, you have an active attitude to realize your dream. You have won our respect.” Lowering my head, I whispered to him, “But they knew my truth. They might see me differently.” My teacher comforted me, “You can’t determine your alopecia, but you can decide your future with your excellent skills. Why not use your strength to achieve your dreams?” With blood burning through my body, I looked my teacher in the eyes and said firmly yes to him.
I decided to prove myself using my own skills. The next day, I arrived early at the playground, waiting for the beginning of the tryout. When it was my turn, I showed my high-level movements and skills smoothly to other teachers. The audience standing around burst into cheers, too. To my surprise, I was finally chosen to be a member of the school team. I couldn’t thank my teacher enough. I know it is not what I look like that makes me successful, but being an active person and always offering a smile to someone.
