Most animal shelters provide volunteer opportunities. They need volunteers for cleaning kennels, feeding, walking dogs and so on. Usually, as long as the child has signed permission from their parents or guardian, they can volunteer as young as 14, even younger if their parents bring them and supervise their volunteer time. Tutoring If your child is a good student and enjoys school or even just a specific subject, volunteering to tutor lower grade students is a great opportunity. Helping struggling students catch up or grasp a concept can make your friend feel great. It is an easy and convenient way to get your teen volunteering after school. And we suggest the age should be older than 14. Youth sports Another great opportunity to get your kid volunteering is in sports. If your child has years of experience with any sport, they can most likely find an opportunity to help out younger kids. Most youth sports need teenage volunteers to be an assistant coach or a referee. Teenagers can volunteer in maintenance to spruce up (使整洁) fields, or in cleanup after game days. The age of volunteers is required beyond 14. Contact any local sports league to get specifics on where they may be needing volunteers. Service projects for teens Cleaning up a common space such as a park or walking trail is a great way to get active in the community, and your teen can even include their friends in their volunteer effort. More detail projects may include something like building a shade structure at a local playground or planting trees. We suggest the age of the kids should be older than 14. 1. Of the following volunteer opportunities, which is suitable for kids under 14? A. Tutoring. B. Service project s for teens. C. Youth sports. D. Animal shelter volunteering. 2. What can kids do when volunteering in sports? A. They can teach younger players. B. They can give assistance to referees. C. They can become professional coaches. D. They are welcome to visit local sports league. 3. Who is the passage intended for? A. Kids’ parents. B. Sports workers. C. Animal lovers. D. School teachers. D 2. B 3. 根据Animal shelter volunteering部分中“Usually, as long as the child has signed permission from their parents or guardian, they can volunteer as young as 14, even younger if their parents bring them and supervise their volunteer time.(通常,只要孩子得到父母或监护人的同意,他们就可以在14岁时做志愿者,如果父母带他们来并监督他们的志愿者时间,他们甚至可以更小。)” 根据Youth sports部分中“Most youth sports need teenage volunteers to be an assistant coach or a referee. A。 B In Aleksandra’s studio in Haikou, the capital of Hainan, an oil painting of St. Basil’s Cathedral hangs beside a portrait capturing the grace of a woman from the Li ethnic group, symbolizing two distinct aspects of the artist’s life. Raised in a family of artists, the 24-year-old Russian woman developed a profound love for painting from an early age. Her fascination with Chinese culture was bolstered when she was 10 years old, “I picked up Chinese through the Internet, books and TV. I simply adore Chinese culture. In 2018, driven by her passion, Aleksandra journeyed to Hainan to study, where she was captured by the island’s peaceful natural beauty and unhurried pace of life. Later, she relocated to Hainan and set up her studio there. “It’s an incredibly beautiful place, and the people are kind, charming and authentically simple,” she reflects. “Life unfolds at a leisurely pace, allowing them to harmonize with nature.” Living in Hainan enables her to immerse herself in nature and humanity, two beloved themes in her artworks. The local people and culture have become essential to her life as she and her husband, whom she met on the island, have ventured through its landscape together. “We ventured into the heart of Hainan. It was during these journeys that I first encountered the Li people,” she recalls. The Li brocade (织锦) has left a lasting impact on her. This traditional textile of the Li ethnic group in Hainan is regarded as a “living fossil” of the textile industry, boasting a history of over 3,000 years.“When you witness a woman weaving this brocade, she is narrating a tale passed down through generations, such as that of Dalishen, the God of Strength, who is watching over us. It not only inspires me but also empowers me to create,” she says. She strives to capture the complicated patterns of the brocade in her paintings, weaving local culture into her process that has brought her profound satisfaction. 4. What does the underlined word “bolstered” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Fuelled. B. Recovered. C. Blocked. D. Weakened. 5. What inspired Aleksandra to set up her studio in Haikou? A. Her passion for painting. B. The low cost of living. C. Her desire for further study. D. The local scenery and lifestyle. 6. What is a feature of Aleksandra’s works? A. They tell fairy stories. B. They reflect culture of the Li ethnic group. C. They centre on weaving techniques. D. They stress the history of the Li people. 7. What is the purpose of the text? A. To attract people to Haikou. B. To highlight China’s cultural diversity. C. To advertise an artist’s works. D. To introduce a foreign artist in China. 【答案】4. A 5. D 6. B 7. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了俄罗斯女画家Aleksandra受中国文化的吸引,定居在海口,在这里她深深爱上了黎族文化。 【4题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“I picked up Chinese through the Internet, books and TV. I simply adore Chinese culture.(我通过互联网、书籍和电视学会了这门语言。我真的喜欢中国文化)”可知,Aleksandra非常喜欢中国文化,结合画线词前的“Her fascination with Chinese culture”和画线词后的“when she was 10 years old”可推知,在她10岁时,她对中国文化的兴趣加强了,所以她才会想要学习汉语这门语言。bolster意为“增强”,与A选项意思一致。故选A。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“In 2018, driven by her passion, Aleksandra journeyed to Hainan to study, where she was captured by the island’s peaceful natural beauty and unhurried pace of life. Later, she relocated to Hainan and set up her studio there.(2018年,在热情的驱使下,亚历山德拉前往海南学习,在那里,她被岛上宁静的自然美景和悠闲的生活节奏所吸引。后来,她搬到海南,在那里建立了自己的工作室)”可知,海南当地的自然美景和悠闲的生活方式给她留下深刻印象,所以她决定搬到这里并成立了工作室。故选D。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“She strives to capture the complicated patterns of the brocade in her paintings, weaving local culture into hera process that has brought her profound satisfaction.(她努力在绘画中捕捉织锦的复杂图案,将当地文化融入她的创作过程,这给她带来了深刻的满足感)”可知,她的画作特色是捕捉了黎族织锦的复杂图案,融合了黎族的文化。故选B。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“In Aleksandra’s studio in Haikou, the capital of Hainan, an oil painting of St. Basil’s Cathedral hangs beside a portrait capturing the grace of a woman from the Li ethnic group, symbolizing two distinct aspects of the artist’s life.(在亚历山德拉位于海南省会海口的工作室里,一幅圣瓦西里大教堂的油画挂在一幅刻画黎族妇女优雅的肖像旁边,象征着艺术家生活的两个截然不同的方面)”以及本文主要讲述了一位俄罗斯女画家Aleksandra受中国文化的吸引,在海口定居并成立了工作室,在这里她深深爱上了黎族文化,由此可知,本文主要是为了介绍一位在中国生活的外国艺术家。故选D。 C You are more likely to think of the information that is repeated to be true than the information you hear only once. You assume that if people are going to put in effort to repeat a statement, this reflects the truth of the statement. Simply repeating some pieces of information does not actually make it true, but this tendency — also called the illusory (错觉的) truth effect — is a prejudice that can lead you to draw the wrong conclusions. An important step in decreasing the negative influence of prejudices in thinking is to be aware of them. To what degree are people aware of the illusory truth effect? This question was addressed in the journal Cognition by Simone Mattavelli. In the critical study, participants did two sessions. In one session, they read about a study in which people were exposed to trivia (琐事) statements and then were asked whether both statements they had heard before as well as new statements were true. They were asked to predict the percentage of each statement that would be judged as true. At another session a few days later, participants actually performed this study, reading a set of 20 trivia statements and then judging the truth of 40 statements, half of which were the ones they saw earlier and the other half of which were new. This study replicated the illusory truth effect. People were more likely to judge statements they had seen before as true than statements that were new. Two interesting findings emerged from the predictions. First participants tended to underestimate the size of the illusory truth effect for everyone. Second, participants were more wrong when predicting their own performance compared to predicting the performance of another person. This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media. Many people are influencing public opinions about political and economic matters. Social media websites with misinformation will lead people to believe this information is true just because it is stated. 8. What is Simone’s study mainly about concerning the illusory truth effect? A. People’s awareness of it. B. People’s reaction to it. C. Its causes. D. Its process. 9. How did the participants engage in the first session of the study? A. Reading, repeating and judging. B. Reading, assessing and forecasting. C. Recording, judging and predicting. D. Predicting, observing and reflecting. 10. What does the underlined word “replicate” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Correspond with. B. Be contrary to. C. Put forward. D. Account for. 11. What is the author’s attitude toward Simone’s study? A. Unclear. B. Dismissive. C. Doubtful. D. Approving. 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. A 11. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讨论了一种被称为“真相错觉效应”的心理偏见以及Simone Mattavelli关于人们对真相错觉效应意识程度的研究,并指出在社交媒体中存在大量错信息情况的下,这种研究的重要性。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“To what degree are people aware of the illusory truth effect? This question was addressed in the journal Cognition by Simone Mattavelli.(人们对真相错觉效应的意识程度如何?Simone Mattavelli在《认知》杂志上发表了关于这个问题的文章。)”可知,Simone的研究主要是关于人们对真相错觉效应的意识。故选A。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“In one session, they read about a study in which people were exposed to trivia statements and then were asked whether both statements they had heard before as well as new statements were true, They were asked to predict the percentage of each statement that would be judged as true.(在一个环节中,他们阅读了一项研究,在这项研究中,人们接触到一些琐事陈述,然后被问及他们之前听到过的陈述和新陈述是否都是真实的。他们被要求预测每个陈述被判断为真实的百分比。)”可知,在第一环节中,参与者通过阅读琐事陈述,评估这些陈述的真实性,并预测这些陈述被判断为真实的百分比,即参与者是通过“阅读、评估和预测”参与研究的第一部分的。故选B。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句下文“People were more likely to judge statements they had seen before as true than statements that were new.(人们更倾向于认为他们之前看到过的陈述是真实的,而不是那些新的陈述。)”可知,实验结果与“真相错觉效应”现象互相印证,即这项研究与真相错觉效应一致。由此可知“replicate”在此处的意思是“与……一致”。故选A。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media.(考虑到社交媒体上存在的大量错误信息,这项工作尤为重要。)”可推知,作者对Simone的研究持赞成态度。故选D。 D The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy is a highly-praised and prize winning book that highlights the globalization debates and reveals the key factors to make global business happen. Following a T-shirt’s life story from a Texas cotton field to a Chinese factory and back to a U. S. storefront before arriving at the used clothing market in Africa, the book uncovers a wealth of interesting questions about politics, trade, economics, ethics (道德学), and the impact of history on today’s business landscape. Pietra Rivoli’s story began at George Town University in Washington where she worked as a professor of finance and international business. One day, she encountered a student seminar about globalized economy, where one student illustrated his views by giving the simple and accessible examples of T-shirts. She became inspired so one day she bought an ordinary T-shirt randomly for $5.99, deciding to look into how the process worked, which triggered the whole story. She travelled thousands of miles and across three continents to find out who did make these T-shirts that we all wear without giving a second thought about the journey each T-shirt had to go through to make it to the United States. She reached readers by using this simple, everyday T-shirt as a camera through which to explore all aspects of globalization in a historical context. The story is told in an interesting and efficient way to achieve its purpose of educating on global economy. The language used is simple for anyone interested in reading to understand the complex world of international trade. The book is written professionally from an economist’s point of view. Rivoli uses a neutral tone, which is uncommon among economic writers and policymakers. She says, “I have written this book not to defend a position, but first of all, to tell a story; not to convey morals but to discover them, and simply to see where the story leads”. 12. What is the usual journey does a T-shirt go? A. USA-Africa-USA-China. B. USA-China- USA-Africa. C. China- USA-China-Africa. D. USA-China-Africa-USA. 13. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The travel of a T-shirt. B. The impact of the book. C. The wisdom of the writer. D. The background of the book. 14. What role did the T-shirt play in the book? A. An example to show complex concepts. B. An effective way to inspire the students. C. A main contributor to global cooperation. D An important way to earn a living globally. 15. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage? A. To show where a T-shirt goes. B. To praise an insightful professor. C. To introduce a great economy book. D. To explain what global economy is. 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。它以评论的方式介绍了《一件T恤的全球经济之旅》这本书的主要内容、作者的创作背景、书中的核心观点以及该书的写作风格和目的。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Following a T-shirt’s life story from a Texas cotton field to a Chinese factory and back to a U. S. storefront before arriving at the used clothing market in Africa, the book uncovers a wealth of interesting questions about politics, trade, economics, ethics (道德学), and the impact of history on today’s business landscape. One day, she encountered a student seminar about globalized economy, where one student illustrated his views by giving the simple and accessible examples of T-shirts. She became inspired so one day she bought an ordinary T-shirt randomly for $5.99, deciding to look into how the process worked, which triggered the whole story. She reached readers by using this simple, everyday T-shirt as a camera through which to explore all aspects of globalization in a historical context. 根据第一段“Following a T-shirt’s life story from a Texas cotton field to a Chinese factory and back to a U. The language used is simple for anyone interested in reading to understand the complex world of international trade. (这个故事以一种有趣而有效的方式讲述,以达到教育全球经济的目的。使用的语言很简单,任何有兴趣阅读的人都可以理解复杂的国际贸易世界。)”可知,作者使用一件简单的日常T恤作为“相机”,通过它来探索全球化各个方面的历史背景,说明T恤是一个帮助读者理解复杂国际贸易世界的实例。T恤在书中扮演的角色是用来展示复杂概念的例子。故选A项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy is a highly-praised and prize winning book that highlights the globalization debates and reveals the key factors to make global business happen. Following a T-shirt’s life story from a Texas cotton field to a Chinese factory and back to a U. Her friends had been baking cupcakes for a year. Yet, it seemed her parents had little faith in her. “Anna is going to make cookies? Alone?” her brother, Carl, asked with a laugh. “That is going to be disaster!” Carl used big words to act smarter than Anna. Having a big brother could be annoying. Admittedly, Anna always appeared clumsy. But that was before she turned nine. She thought her parents should realize she would do better now. At her words, a flash of uncertainty crossed her parents’ faces. Would they agree? Holding her breath, she had waited for what seemed like ages. Surprisingly, Mom nodded, saying, “Okay, but please be careful, and remember to take a look at the cookbook first.” Fueled by determination, Anna raced to the kitchen. With each step, there was a sense of purpose and confidence growing within her. She had already done it with Mom a million times before. Putting the cookbook aside, she got down to baking cookies from memory, breaking eggs, dropping a cold stick of butter, adding salt and then…um…yes, mixing it well! Using a mixer was easy. She turned on the mixer at the medium speed—and whoa. Whoa. Whoa! Butter splattered (飞溅) everywhere, making the kitchen in a mess. Collecting herself, she turned back to the mixing bowl and started again. This time with softer butter. Anna placed rounded spoonfuls of mixture onto the cookie pan and put it into the oven (烤炉). Within a few minutes, a fantastic smell filled the kitchen- the smell of cookie success! She was going to silence all those doubts. No more eye-rolling from her big brother. No more “You’re too young, Anna” from her parents. She believed she was grown up and mature enough to be relied on. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The moment Anna pulled the pan out of the oven, Carl stepped into the kitchen. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now she decided to have another try, carefully following the cookbook. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: The moment Anna pulled the pan out of the oven, Carl stepped into the kitchen. Anna’s heart sank as she surveyed the misshapen, burnt cookies on the tray. She had underestimated the importance of measuring ingredients accurately, resulting in an unappetizing mess. Carl’s mocking laughter echoed in her ears, fueling her frustration and disappointment. She knew her failure resulted from her ignoring the cookbook. Paragraph 2: Now she decided to have another try, carefully following the cookbook. Determined to redeem herself, Anna carefully measured each ingredient, ensuring precision in every step of the process and taking care to avoid the mistakes of her previous attempt. After twenty minutes, Anna opened the oven door to reveal perfectly golden-brown cookies. Her parents’ eyes were filled with pride and admiration. Even Carl couldn’t hide his astonishment. In that moment, Ann a realized success wasn’t just about baking perfect cookies; it was about believing in herself and being meticulous in everything she does. 词汇激活 行为类 ①结束:end/conclude ②相信:believe in/trust ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①赞美:admiration/praise ②一丝不苟:meticulous/punctilious 【点睛】[高分句型1] Anna’s heart sank as she surveyed the misshapen, burnt cookies on the tray. The age of volunteers is required beyond 14. Contact any local sports league to get specifics on where they may be needing volunteers. Service projects for teens Cleaning up a common space such as a park or walking trail is a great way to get active in the community, and your teen can even include their friends in their volunteer effort. B In Aleksandra’s studio in Haikou, the capital of Hainan, an oil painting of St. C You are more likely to think of the information that is repeated to be true than the information you hear only once. You assume that if people are going to put in effort to repeat a statement, this reflects the truth of the statement. Simply repeating some pieces of information does not actually make it true, but this tendency — also called the illusory (错觉) truth effect — is a prejudice that can lead you to draw the wrong conclusions. First, participants tended to underestimate the size of the illusory truth effect for everyone. Second, participants were more wrong when predicting their own performance compared to predicting the performance of another person. This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media Many people are influencing public opinions about political and economic matters. A. Unclear. B. Dismissive. C. Doubtful. D. Approving. D The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy is a highly-praised and prize winning book that highlights the globalization debates and reveals the key factors to make global business happen. D. An important way to earn a living globally. 15. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage? A. To show where a T-shirt goes. B. To praise an insightful professor. C. To introduce a great economy book. D. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
