(1)I was fortunate in having good parents. (2)Without family, the world would become wilderness. (3)He's looking for love and he's looking for family; he's looking to be accepted and he's looking forward to being embraced by his father. (4)Health is more than just your physical wellbeing. You need to have emotional needs met and that means maintaining family and friend relationships. (5)We shouldn't take the selfless love from our parents for granted. (6)After that, our relationship became closer and we were more like friends. (7)She felt warmth in the cold day, and believed there was kindness in every corner. (8)She stood on the beach, gazing at the ocean. (9)We had a good time/enjoyed ourselves. (10)At last, they saw us off and said goodbye. (11)I learnt a lot from my parents. (12)We will always remember this enjoyable experience. Growing up, I understood one thing about my dad: He knew everything. This was our relationship: I asked him questions and he told me the answers. In my teen years, he taught me things I'd need to know to survive in the real world. When I moved out on my own, I called him usually when something broke into my apartment and I needed to know how to fix the toilet, the airconditioner or the wall. But then, eventually, I needed him less. For everything, I had Google. I don't know when it happened, but when I called our conversations developed into six words. Me: “Hi, Dad”. Him: “Hi, sweets. Here's Mom.” I loved my dad, of course, but I wondered at times if maybe he had already shared everything I needed to know. Then, this past summer, I moved in with my parents for three weeks while my house was being repaired. They own a lake house, and Dad asked me to help him rebuild the bulkhead (隔板) at their dock (船坞). “How do you know how to build a bulkhead?” “I spent a summer in college building them on the Jersey shore.” “You did?” I thought I knew everything about my dad. I knew about the summer at the manufacturing plant that burned his hands raw, and even the tiny little kitchen, where he learned how to make the best pancake. But I never knew this. “Yes. Now come up here and let me teach you how to use this circulars saw (圆锯).” All of a sudden, I realized that maybe it's not that there's nothing left to say. Maybe it's just that I've spent my life asking him the wrong questions. We ended up our talking but I was lost in thought. “Wait, Dad,” I said, “How are you?” [精彩范文] We ended up our talking but I was lost in thought. For years, I had taken it for granted that dad could give me answers to any of my questions only if I asked, but seldom did I try to understand his life just like the summer when he was building bulkhead and what he wanted from me. Maybe he was also eager to share his story with me, or he wouldn't have asked me to help him rebuild the bulkhead. After all, it was hard, manual labor. A few weeks later, after I moved back into my house, I called my parents. Dad answered. “Hi, sweets,” he said. “Here's Mom.” “Wait, Dad,” I said. “How are you?” We talked a lot that day, from the little quarrel between him and my mom to the job he was working on. Nothing important. To anyone else, it would sound like a normal conversation between a dad and his daughter. But to me, it was novel, as well as to my dad. I sensed his voice with excitement and delight. It was a whole new beginning. I spent the first part of my life needing to talk to my dad. Now I talk to him because I want to. [亮点呈现] (1)take it for granted, be eager to do sth等短语的运用,凸显了作者灵活运用语言的能力,极大吸引了读者的眼球。 (2)A few weeks later, after I moved back into my house, I called my parents. (3)Now I talk to him because I want to. Through our lives, we can gain a lot and lose so much. But being honest should always be with us, as honesty is always regarded as a virtue. Every time I talk about the topic, something crowds in my mind as if it had just happened. I was 16 when one morning, Dad told me I could drive him to Mijas and then take the car in a nearby garage to get it serviced. At that time, I had just passed the driving test, and I hardly had a chance to use the car, so I said yes without hesitation. I drove my father to Mijas, promising to pick him up again at 4 pm, then I went to a nearby garage, and put the car in there. Since I had several hours to spare, I decided to go to a movie theater near the garage to see the movie. However, I was so absorbed in the plot of the movie that I forgot the time. When the last movie finished, I looked at my watch: 6 pm. I was two hours late! I thought my father would be very angry if he knew what I was doing. And he would never let me drive again. So I decided to make up an excuse. Then, I drove to the appointed place, my father was sitting in a corner, waiting patiently. I first apologized for being late, then told him that I wanted to get there as soon as possible, but that something was wrong with some of the main parts of the car. I would never forget the way he looked at me. “I'm very disappointed that you thought you had to lie to me, Jason.” My father looked at me again and said, “When you didn't show up on time, I called the gas station and asked if there was anything wrong. They told me you never picked up the car. So, you see, I know there's nothing wrong with the car at all.” A wave of guilt swept over me and I had to admit the fact that I had gone to the movies and that was the real reason why I was late. “But father, it's exactly eighteen miles home from here, and it's dark. You can't walk back.” I begged. [精彩范文] A wave of guilt swept over me and I had to admit the fact that I had gone to the movies and that was the real reason why I was late. Dad listened carefully as a sadness passed through him, “I'm angry, not with you but with myself. You see. I realize that I have failed as a father if after all these years you feel that you have to lie to me. I have failed because I have brought up a son who cannot even tell the truth to his own father. I'm going to walk home now and think where I have gone wrong all these years”. “But father, it's exactly eighteen miles home from here, and it's dark. You can't walk back.” I begged. My protests, my apologies and the rest of my words were useless. I had let my father down, and I was about to learn one of the most painful lessons of my life. Dad began walking along the dusty roads. I quickly jumped in the car and followed behind. I apologized all the way, telling him how sorry I was, but he simply ignored me. For 18 miles he kept walking. Seeing my father in so much pain was the most awful experience that I have ever faced. However it was also the most successful lesson.
