Qian Xuesen is one of the most outstanding scientists in China and a pioneer of China’s aerospace industry. Born into a wealthy family on December 11,1911, Qian Xuesen was so clever that he was referred to as a “wonder child” in his childhood. Having graduated from university in 1934, he went to America for further studies in the following year and gained his doctorate. After he returned to China in 1955, he devoted himself to China’s aerospace programme. He played a major role in the development of rockets. On October 31,2009, he passed away in Beijing.
