Text 1
M:Do you have any plans for the weekend?
W:If the weather is fine, I'll climb mountains or have a picnic with my friends. How about you?
M:I'm going to visit my grandparents with my aunt.
Text 2
W:I haven't seen you at the supermarket for a while, Bill.
M:I left last month.I finished my mechanics course.I'm working at the car repair shop next to the Italian restaurant. You can bring your car here next time you have a problem.
Text 3
W:Now, if there are no more questions, let's move on to the next chapter.
M:Excuse me, professor, could we go over that last point once more?
Text 4
M:Is everything to your satisfaction, ma'am?
W:Yes, all the food is delicious except that there is too much salt in the soup. And your service is also very good.
Text 5
W:Hello, Mike. This is Amber.I hear that you're looking for an apartment, and my brother Jack just rented a two-bedroom downtown. He is looking for a suitable roommate.
M:Great.I'm looking for a place right in that area. That sounds ideal.
Text 6
W:I would like to begin my thank-you speech by saying “I want to wholeheartedly thank those who stuck with me along the way.”
M:You're not going to start your speech with that boring opening, are you?
W:I think it's a nice opening.
M:It's too formal.How about “Hey Emily,you're totally awesome.And Tania, you're absolutely amazing.”?
W:That doesn't even come close to expressing how I feel.I want to thank people for their kindness and support from the bottom of my heart.
Text 7
W:We've been running the last couple of days and you're a fast runner. How often do you run?
M:Well, now I only run about four days a week. But when I was younger, every day.
W:Oh, really! Did you run in high school or college?
M:Believe it or not, I started when I was six years old.
W:Wow.So are you a better short distance runner or long distance runner?
M:Actually middle distance runner.
W:How far is a middle distance?
M:About 1,500 meters.
W:What's your fastest time in the 1,500 meters?
M:Ah, three minutes and forty-seven seconds.
W:That's pretty fast.
M:I did that in high school and I won a gold medal then.Though I'm not so fast now still I can run the event within four minutes.
W:That's pretty cool.My time will be about six minutes.
Text 8
W:Have you ever considered starting a vegetable garden in our backyard, darling?
M:Hmm, I'm not sure. What's the point? We can just buy vegetables at the supermarket.
W:Well, I think it would be a delightful hobby for us to do together.Besides, we would have fresh, organic produce.
M:That's a valid point. It could also save money on groceries and help us stay healthy. But I'm concerned about the time and effort it would take to maintain the garden. And what if we don't have a green thumb?
W:Don't worry. We can start small and learn as we progress.Additionally, we have access to a wealth of online resources and helpful neighbors who can help us.
M:Alright, I'm willing to give it a go.What should we plant first?
W:How about some easy-to-grow vegetables like tomatoes and peppers? And we can also plant some herbs.
M:Sounds good.Let's hit up the shop for some seeds now.
Text 9
M:Hi, Marina.Can I ask a few questions?
W:Yes, sure, go ahead.
M:As a photographer, you are quite successful. Can you tell me who can become a photographer?
W:Anyone can become a photographer, as long as you want it.It's not like you need a degree or certificate or anything.Yes, I've been planning to take photography classes in an art school in the UK, but before this, I'd already been working as a photographer for years—I started by using my phone in junior high. Some of my photographer friends do other jobs at the same time—they are music makers, vloggers and directors.
M:What does a photographer usually do?
W:There are different kinds of photographers and our lives and work can be quite different, too.A National Geographic kind of photographer may travel to different places, taking photos of architecture, landscapes and animals. But fashion photographers like me, mainly do two things—commercial shoots and our own creative projects. The former is for making money and offering service to customers. The latter is for expression—we post these photos on our own social media, submit them to media outlets and contests, or host photographic exhibitions to show them off.
M:What makes a good photographer?
W:For commercial shooting, there are some routines that we can follow and the most important thing is to meet the needs of our customers. For our own shoots, what matters most is that you have something that you want to express, and these things can be received or understood by a certain group of people who think similarly.
M:Thanks for having given the interview.
Text 10
Mozart was an outstanding musician and composer whose fame continues to grow more than two centuries after his death. He was born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1756.Before the age of four, he had shown great musical talent. His father then decided to let him start taking instrumental lessons. The boy's reputation as a musical talent grew fast.At five, he was composing music. From that time on, Mozart was performing in concerts and writing music.By his early teens, he had mastered the piano and violin, and was writing symphonies and operas. His first major opera was
performed in Milan in 1770, when he was only fourteen. At fifteen, Mozart became the conductor for an orchestra in Salzburg. In 1781, he left for Vienna, where he was in great demand as both a performer and a composition teacher. His first opera was a success. But life was not easy because he was a poor businessman, and his finances were always in a bad state. His music from the next decade was not very popular, and he eventually fell back on his teaching jobs for a living. In 1788, he stopped performing in public, preferring only to compose. He died in 1791 at the age of thirty-five.Although he lived only a short life, he composed over 600 works.

It was an afternoon in August.I was just short of turning 18.I stood in front of a six-story,red brick building. It was to be my new home for the next several years. It was my first day of college, and I was very excited.I had two suitcases and a bag with me.Everything I thought I would need was packed in them.I carried them up the five flights of stairs to my dorm and wondered what life had in store for me—a young girl.
It was another afternoon in August.I was just short of turning 42.My daughter was 18,and we were standing in front of the same building at the same college that I had been to years before.I smiled as I helped her carry her things up to her room, but I also noticed that we were making more than one trip. All the students seemed to have much more stuff (东西) than I did all those years ago.Yet,it didn't seem to make things any better for them.In fact, they looked more stressed. As I threw down another box of my daughter's stuff,I wondered what life had in store for her.
Last night I had a dream that I'd had many times before.I was back in that same dorm with my belongings piled on my bed, searching for my course book and wondering what classes I would take.I often wondered what this dream meant, but when I woke up this morning,it became crystal clear to me.We are sometimes teachers in this life, but we are always students in it.We are here to learn to love ourselves and everyone as ourselves. It takes a lifetime. The stuff we carry with us through this life doesn't matter at all.It is the stuff we carry inside of us when we leave this life that counts.

The old Chinese saying“as happy as spending the New Year” might be outdated now in the busy modern world. The Spring Festival is regarded as the most important festival for Chinese people and an occasion for all family members to get together. But many traditional customs accompanying the Spring Festival, however, have weakened in practice.
Setting off firecrackers was once the most typical custom of the Spring Festival.People thought the sputtering (爆裂) sound could help drive away evil spirits. However, the activity has been completely or partially forbidden in big cities for years as the government has taken security, noise and pollution factors into consideration.
“In recent years, some cities have begun to allow people to light firecrackers during limited hours at the Spring Festival, surrendering to public demand.Respecting folk traditions is a gesture of respect towards public opinion,” said Zhou Xing,a folklore researcher.
“As people gain more income and it becomes easier to buy daily goods, the New Year holiday is just like any other day. After long workdays, many people use the New Year holiday to take a rest, rather than visiting friends and neighbors. The process of making and enjoying the family dinner on Spring Festival Eve is the most important thing. However, many families would like to eat out to save time and energy,” said Li Shunzhi,a resident of Harbin,Heilongjiang.
“I enjoy the holidays very much in the countryside. My family has been preparing for the Spring Festival more than two weeks before the holiday, cleaning the house, buying holiday goods and decorating the house with paper cuttings. On New Year's Eve,the whole family stays up to see the New Year in,and in the days to follow,a series of activities such as lion dance, dragon lantern dance and the Lantern Festival will be held.Without the ancient traditions, the holiday is nothing to us,” said Zhang Hui,from Hebei.

Two thirds of the ice in the glaciers (冰川) of the Alps is doomed! These glaciers will melt by the end of the century as global temperatures rise, according to a recent study.
Scientists claim that half the ice held in some 4,000 Alpine glaciers will disappear by 2050 due to the global warming through the effect of past emissions. After that, even if carbon emissions drop to zero,two-thirds of the ice will still have melted by 2100.If emissions continue to rise at the current rate, the ice tongues will have all but disappeared from Alpine valleys by the end of the century. The most pessimistic prediction tells us that the Alps will be mostly ice-free by 2100.Only isolated ice patches would remain at high altitudes, representing five per cent,at most,of the ice volume seen today.
The researchers warn that the loss of these glaciers will mean much less water is available for farming and hydroelectricity, especially during droughts. It would also affect nature and tourism.
In February,a study found that a third of the huge ice fields in Asia's towering mountain chains were also under threat for the same reasons. This will lead to serious consequences for almost two billion people who live downstream.Glaciers along the Hindu Kush and Himalayan range are at higher, colder altitudes. If global carbon emissions are not cut,however,two-thirds of their ice could be gone by 2100.
The latest research combined computer models with real-world data to forecast the fate of the glaciers. It used 2017 as its starting point.Unlike previous work, these models included how the glaciers move down the mountains.Applying this approach to other glaciated mountain chains could improve ice loss forecasts there.
Cutting the emissions from fossil-fuel burning, deforestation and other pollution activities is the biggest factor in minimizing the melting of the ice.The future of these glaciers is indeed at risk, but there is still a possibility of limiting their disappearance.

Dear fellow students,

This festival is particularly important for me and my family because it is a time for family reunions. We gather together to eat mooncakes, a kind of special pastry with a sweet filling, and appreciate the full moon.In China, the full moon symbolizes completeness and unity, and this festival represents the value of togetherness.
Thank you for listening, and I hope you have a better understanding of this meaningful Chinese festival.
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“I will never forget you,” Tom said to his pet dog with tears rolling down his cheeks (脸颊). With his head leaning to one side, Thone watched his master, “Woof, woof! Woof, woof!” He wagged his tail back and forth, seeming to understand what Tom was talking about.
“I can't take care of myself anymore, let alone take care of you,” Tom cleared his throat. “Soon, I'll move to an old people's home, and I'm sorry to say that you can't come along. They don't allow dogs there, you know.”“Don't worry, my friend. I'll find a nice new home for you. I've known the owners of the new home, and they like dogs very much,” Tom added. “With your good looks, we'll have no trouble at all. Anyone will be proud to own such a fine dog.”
Thone wagged his tail really hard and walked proudly up and down the kitchen floor. For a moment, the familiar delicious food gave him a feeling of happiness. But then a sense of fear struck again. Thone's tail hung between his legs and he stood very still.
“Come here.” With great difficulty, Tom knelt down on the floor and lovingly pulled Thone close to him. He tied a ribbon (丝带) around the dog's neck with a huge red bow, and then he attached a note to it, which said “Happy New Year! My name is Thone. For breakfast, I like bacon and eggs—even corn will do. For dinner, I prefer mashed potatoes and some meat. That's all. I eat just two meals a day. In return, I will be your most loyal friend.”
“Woof, woof! Woof, woof!” Thone was confused and his eyes begged. The old Tom blew his nose into his handkerchief once more. Later, hanging on to a chair, he pulled himself up from the floor. He buttoned his overcoat, reached for the dog's leash (皮带) and softly said, “Come here, my friend.” He opened the door against a wave of cold air and stepped outside, pulling the dog behind.
As they were walking in the empty street, dusk was beginning to fall.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
After a very long time, they stopped before a large house with tall trees in its front._____________________________________________
Through teary eyes, the old Tom watched from behind the tree as the boy's mother took the note.__________________________________
[参考范文]
After a very long time, they stopped before a large house with tall trees in its front. An idea came to Tom. He gave up the original plan and tied Thone to the tree, giving him the usual delicious food. The moment Thone was busy enjoying his dinner, Tom ran away, hid behind a tree and looked at him with watery eyes. Minutes later, Thone looked back but couldn't find his owner “Woof, woof! Woof, woof!” Then the door opened and a young lady came out with a little boy following her.
Through teary eyes, the old Tom watched from behind the tree as the boy's mother took the note. After reading the note, the lady raised herself and looked around but couldn't find anyone, so she gently took Thone into her house as if saying something kind to him. Seeing this, the old Tom wiped his eyes with the cold sleeve of his coat with a big smile. Then he disappeared into the night, whispering, “Goodbye, my dear friend. This will be a nice home for you.”
