Well I would, and for me, it's one of the best decisions I've made for myself. The house has three floors and 15 bedrooms. It has communal spaces such as the kitchen, bathrooms, living room, and a big old dining room table, where we talk, laugh, disagree, play games, learn from each other, and most importantly break bread together. My housemates and I share the housework and do the cook cycle, which generally means cooking dinner for the house about once every two weeks and we attend weekly house meetings where we make decisions about the operations of the house together. What I worried most about at first was how my son might feel about the new housing situation. To my surprise, he loved it by the first visit to the house! He has never complained about this house being smaller than his dad's. One of my housemates has two children at his age, so he now has two new friends. This is important for me as a parent because I want to teach him that happiness doesn't come from the size of your home, but from the love that is inside. When I lived with a roommate in college, we never discussed about any agreements on quiet hours, cleaning up the communal areas and so on. Every cause of conflict during that time was due to lack of communication. On the contrary, in our house we talk about and have policies on almost everything. Besides less cost on housing, I'm more concerned about the connection with other people that I was longing for. Cooperative living isn't for everyone, but with the increasing cost of living and decreasing connection with other people, it can definitely be a great option for more people. The Blind Spot recreated existing famous paintings, but with extra dimensions, such as sound and smell.Visitors could even get a “feel” for the art, which included touchable elements. Visitor Farid el Manssouri seemed to enjoy his experience. He smiled as he moved his hands over cheese, grapes and bread, part of the representation of a famous 1610 painting by Floris van Dvck.“The first thing that struck me was the smell.I could really smell the fragrant cheese, and I touched it too,” Manssouri said.Manssouri wondered how the food did not fall from its unbalanced position.“That was really surprising to feel...I guess it was glued on pretty well,” Manssouri said. Artist Jasper Udink ten Cate and designer Jeroen Prins created The Blind Spot. They said they were inspired by an experience they shared with a blind visitor at an art show one year ago.“One day, somebody who could not see was there. At the place we served food out of this work, and we helped her touch the artwork. She was blind but she had a lot of feelings. She was touched. So we had the realization,‘Wow,we have something.’ That moment was the starting point to actually create this exhibition,” ten Cate said. The museum's head Steffie Maas said The Blind Spot was an impressive experiment on the way to more such improvements. An international team of scientists, including researchers at the University of Edinburgh, UK, has recently come up with an explanation.According to the findings, ants use visual (视觉的) memories of their environments and the sun's position to find their way home. And they can even do it while traveling backwards. The researchers studied a group of desert ants in Seville, Spain. The study's purpose was to find out how ants navigate when they carry pieces of food of different sizes. To make it work, the scientists first trained the ants to follow a particular path back home, including a challenging 90-degree turn. Then the ants were given either a small or a large piece of food to test their navigational skills. Ants with small pieces of food walked forward and cleared the 90-degree turn just fine. However, those with larger pieces sometimes had to turn backwards to drag them.Generally, these ants would set off in the correct direction. But if they stayed too long in the backward position, they would miss the correct turn to reach the nest. Interestingly, not all of the backward-walking ants were that stubborn. Some would drop the food sometimes to check their surroundings. So after turning back to pick up their food, the ants would find themselves back on the right path. Barbara Webb, a professor from the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics, said the findings could help people make smarter robots in the future. “Understanding their behavior gives us new insights into brain function and has inspired us to build robot systems that copy their functions,” she told the BBC. Scientists have been able to copy the neural (神经的) network in the ant's brain. The hope is to invent robots that can explore by themselves in natural areas such as forests. I'm writing to apply for the position of The Youth Camp for International Exchange and Friendship volunteer. I heard you need someone to receive a foreign teenager and arrange a one-day trip for him/her in Shanghai. I think I'm the very person you are looking for, because I'm local and know this city a lot. About the trip, here are my suggestions. First, we will visit a theme park. It is a fairy world with many famous characters, with whom I bet he/she will fall in love immediately once setting foot in it. After that, we may visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower to enjoy an impressive view of Shanghai's modern skyline. That's my arrangements for the one-day trip and I'm sure our guest will like them. I hope you take my application into consideration and give me an early rely. Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 I am a teacher and I have had the great pleasure of teaching for ten years. Early on in my career, I had one 4th grade student who challenged me and presented a “problem” in an interesting manner. This student would watch as I wrote on the board and raise her hand with a little smile on her face. When I called on her, she would correct me saying things like, “Mr. Griffith, you spelled ‘millennium' wrong.” On that particular day, I was tired and depressed, and I did not take this statement very well. In fact, you might say I was “ungrateful” that morning for the student noticing my mistake. On my first break, I stormed into the teachers' lunch room and saw a trusted colleague. I told her what had happened and said that this student was being very disrespectful for pointing this out in front of the class. I said that this problem was ruining my day. She smiled knowingly, as good friends do at these moments, looked at me and said, “That is one of those situations that you can complain about and build up resentment (怨恨) or you could change it into something positive. That student had to be paying close attention to find the errors you made. You might think about giving students a reward for finding the errors. Then, if you make an error, you can tell them you were just testing them.” We both smiled and my resentment started to soften. My colleague went on, “You just started doing a gratitude list with your students. Maybe that student should be at the top of your gratitude list, because she is teaching you to turn problems into solutions.” This shocked me. I thought this conversation would go in a different direction with some sympathy on our problems in the classroom. But this shock melted into a new way to look at this situation and to appreciate this student with gratitude. 注意:续写词数应为150个左右。 After lunch, I went back to my classroom and made an announcement.________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the final exam, their scores for editing and grammar were significantly higher than before._________________________________ __________________________________________________________ [参考范文] After lunch, I went back to my classroom and made an announcement. “Attention, please, boys and girls. I have an announcement to make. From today on, whoever of you can find any wrong of my spelling or grammar, you can raise your hands up and speak it out. I will give you gratitude and an award.” Hearing that, all the students got excited and asked, “Is it true that you will give us an award?”“Yes, of course.” After that day, all the students, including the girl who had found my wrong spelling, concentrated on listening to the class actively and energetically. In the final exam, their scores for editing and grammar were significantly higher than before. All of us were pleased and satisfied. The students got their high scores and awards from me, and I achieved my goal of helping teaching them learn well. I was more than grateful to my colleague and that girl, without whom, I would not have learnt to be humble to accept my fault found by others and would not have got on so well with my students and work. I just wanted to say thanks to them again. $$
