Where does the passage most probably come from? A. A travel book. B. A radio program C. A textbook. D. A poster. B One of the best memories I have from my childhood is the time my mother read to me. When it was cold outside, we sat on the couch late at night with the fire blazing in the fireplace. I leaned against her shoulder and watched the lines on her face disappear as she used her voice to mimic the characters in the book. It could have been her time to relax after taking care of children and a husband all day, but instead, she would smile when I slipped out of my bed and come tip toeing back into the living room after everyone ease was asleep. Being the youngest of ill children, sometimes, it was easy to get lost in the crowd, and I cherished those moments; I could sit close to her and know it was just my time. My mother’s lines would melt away during those moments because she wasn’t thinking about cooking cleaning, disciplining, or paying the bills. When she read Cinderella to me, she would make me feel the transition from ashes to riches because she was using her imagination to feel it, too. When I became a busy parent with my children, I understood my mother’s sacrificed for sharing that late-night story time with me. But, somehow, I think she needed it as much as I did. Years later, I had the opportunity to visit an elementary school recently to read to the first-grade class for National Children’s book week. Besides helping a child develop a love for reading, it is a beautiful way to be close to your children and in stills(注入)a sense of security they never forget. It’s when the parent focuses on the child without distractions, and a child can feel that. I did. For a moment, we aren’t adults with all the answers and rules, but someone lost in a story with our children. Reading and letting our imagination travel is not just for children, either. When I am at my busies and feel the most stressed in my life, I find a book and let myself get lost for a while. The difference between reading a book, hanging out on your iPad, or lounging in front of the television to relax is that when you read a book, the story can be what you imagine it to be, and you can learn as fast or as slow as you want to. I like that. 4. What impressed the author most? A. His mother read to him during his childhood. B. The warmth beside the fireplace in a cold night. C. They sat on the couch late at night. D. He mimicked the characters in the book. 5. What made the author have conflicting feelings? A. He slipped out of my bed and tip toed to Mum. B. He did everything when others were asleep. C. He was always lost in the crowd. D. He stole mum’s time to relax but enjoyed it 6. Which is the benefit of reading together according to the passage? A. It helps parents focus on reading without distractions. B. It helps kids form a sense of security. C. It helps kids perform well in elementary school. D. It helps adults find answers and rules. 7. What is the passage mainly aimed at? A. Relieving everyday stress. B. Promoting the idea of parent-child reading. C. advertising for National Children’s book week. D. Cal! ding for kids to read more, C Tardigrades (水熊虫), with nick names like “water bear” may be the toughest animals on Earth. They have evolved to live almost anywhere and survive almost anything. Some tardigrades can escape conditions that would kill most living beings, including extremes far beyond anything found on Earth. Tardigrades have been around for at least 500 million years or so, possibly sharing a common ancestor with arthropods (节肢动物). Over 1,000 species are known today, including marine, fresh water, and terrestrial tardigrades. Tardigrades are near the edge of visibility for most human eyes. A typical tardigrade is about 0.5 mm long, and even the largest ones are less than 2 mm in length. Perhaps the most famous thing about tardigrades is their strange and mysterious durability (抗耐性). Tardigrades are not immortal, but they have a powerful adaptation that allows them to survive for decades in extreme conditions. To endure environmental stress, tardigrades suspend their metabolism (新陈代谢) through a process called cryptobiosis. They curl up and enter a death-like state known as a tun. Their metabolism slows to 0.01% of normal, and their water content drops to less than 1%. They survive in this state by replacing the water in their cells with a protective sugar called trehalose (海藻糖), which preserves all the cellular machinery until water is available again. Some tardigrades in a tun can handle pressure as high as 600 megapascals (MPa). That’s nearly 6,000 atmospheres, or 6,000 times the pressure of Earth’s atmosphere at sea level, and it’s about six times higher than the pressure found in the planet’s deepest ocean trenches. Even half as much pressure, 300 MPa, would kill most multicellular life and bacteria. Two tardigrade species flew into low-Earth orbit on the FOTON-M3 mission in 2007, becoming the first animals known to survive direct exposure to space. The 12-day mission proved that exposure to space was no problem for them, and the lack of gravity had little effect, either. Some tardigrades even laid eggs during the mission. Research has shown tardigrades can survive roughly 1,000 times more radiation than a human. Chinese scientists have decoded the key mechanisms that make tardigrades radiation-resistant, which could shed light on how to make human beings stronger against radiation and how to increase the stress tolerance of human cells in the future, according to a study published in the journal Science in October 2024. 8. How does the author introduce the features of tardigrades in Paragraph 2? A. By making comparisons. B. By analyzing cause and effect. C. By showing examples. D. By listing figures. 9. Why can tardigrades possibly survive in extreme conditions according to this passage? A. Because they are immortal. B. Because they can change extreme conditions. C. Because they slow down their metabolism. D. Because they can regain life from death for many times. 10. When tardigrades face pressure or space, what is a possible condition? A. They can’t handle pressure more than 500 Mpa. B. They will be killed by the pressure about 300 Mpa. C. They can only survive indirect exposure to space. D. They are almost not affected by the lack of gravity. 11. What is important for the study of Chinese scientists? A. Their findings can be applied to help human beings. B. They focuses on the reproduction of tardigrades. C. They study the dietary habits of tardigrades. D. They proved tardigrades radiant-resistant. D A famous travel writer, pick Iyer, recently wrote of his experience in the deep south of the world. The visit, he said, “awakens you to the environmental concerns of the world, and you go home with important questions for your conscience (良知) as well as radiant memories.” Iyer isn’t alone. This response is widespread, known in the industry as Antarctic ambassador ship. In Antarctic a, crowding, environmental impact and emissions are the most pressing issues. While 100,000 tourists a year is tiny by global tourism standards, and visits are concentrated in highly sensitive ecological areas for only a few months per year. There are no residents to disturb (other than local wildlife), because there’s no host community to protest if visitor numbers get too high. Even so, strong protections are in place. In accordance with the Antarctic Treaty System — the set of international agreements signed by countries with an Antarctic presence or an interest — tourism operators based in those nations have to apply for permits and follow strict environmental regulations. For instance, to avoid introducing new species, tourists have to follow rules such as disinfecting their boots and vacuuming their pockets before setting foot on the ice, and keeping a set distance from wildlife. Almost all Antarctic cruise owners belong to the International Association of Antarctic a Tour Operators, the peak body that manages Antarctic tourism. For the first time this year, operators have to report their overall fuel consumption as part of IAATO’s efforts to make the industry more climate-friendly. Some operators are now using hybrid vessels (合成船舶) that can run partly on electric propulsion (推进) for short periods, reducing carbon dioxide emissions. If you’re one of the tourists going to Antarctica this summer, enjoy the experience — but go with care. Be aware that no trip south comes without environmental cost and use this knowledge to make clear-eyed decisions about your activities both in Antarctic a and once you’re safely back home. 12. What’s the function of Paragraph 1? A. To introduce the famous writer pick layer. B. To show how amazing to be Antarctic Ambassador. C. To arouse public interest in Antarctic tourism. D. To show concerns for Antarctic environment. 13. What’s the possible meaning of the underlined word “vacuuming” in Paragraph 4? A. Protecting. B. Emptying. C. Staining. D. Filling. 14. Which is true about the operator this year according to the passage? A. They needn’t report overall fuel assumption. B. They made no effort to be climate-friendly. C. Hybrid vessels are a good choice to reduce CO2. D. Polar travel can be stopped right away by the company. 15. What’s the author’s attitude towards Antarctic tourism? A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Negative. D. Unclear. 第二节(共5小题: 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项. 选项中有两项为多余选项. She had a dream — to become an astronaut and explore the vastness of space. However, many doubted her dream because they thought it was unrealistic for someone with their poor background. In this village, there was no one daring to have this dream which was beyond the wildest dream. However, Maya was not defeated by the doubt, she dedicated herself to her studies. She bought many volumes of books on astronomy from the faraway libraries. In the beginning, her parents just let go of her crazy passion, but gradually her efforts amazed them. With their support, she even tried to find opportunities online to attend science camps, and sought guidance from mentors (导师). Maya’s passion for space grew stronger with each passing day, fueling her determination to overcome any difficulties in her path. As Maya approached her final year of high school, an opportunity arose — a famous scholarship that offered a chance to study astrophysics (天体物理学) at a famous university. Maya knew that this scholarship could be her ticket to achieving her dreams. The scholarship selection process was strict, testing candidates’ knowledge, skills, and talent. Maya poured countless hours into preparation, expanding her knowledge and improving her abilities. When the day of the scholarship interview arrived, Maya faced a group of professors and experts in the field. Nervously, she answered their questions and shared her passion for space exploration. Weeks turned into months as Maya awaited the scholarship results. Doubts and anxieties stuck in her mind, but she reminded herself of the importance of perseverance. She continued to believe in herself and her abilities, refusing to let setbacks define her journey. Finally, the day of the scholarship announcement arrived. Maya’s heart raced as the names were called one by one. As the last name echoed in the room, Maya’s heart sank — it wasn’t hers. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Disappointment washed over her, but she refused to let it stop her dreams. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moved by Maya’s determination, the astronaut became her mentor, guiding her on a new journey. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 全市普通高中 2024 ~ 2025 学年度第一学期期末教学质量监测考试 高二英语试题 注意事项: 1. My mother’s lines would melt away during those moments because she wasn’t thinking about cooking, cleaning, disciplining, or paying the bills. D. A By making comparisons. 【答案】8. D 9. C 10. D 11. That’s nearly 6,000 atmospheres, or 6,000 times the pressure of Earth’s atmosphere at sea level, and it’s about six times higher than the pressure found in the planet’s deepest ocean trenches.(一些水熊虫在桶内可以承受高达600兆帕斯卡(MPa)的压力。这几乎是6000个大气压,是地球海平面大气压的6000倍,是地球最深海沟中大气压的6倍)”以及倒数第二段“The 12-day mission proved that exposure to space was no problem for them, and the lack of gravity had little effect, either. Some tardigrades even laid eggs during the mission. Research has shown tardigrades can survive roughly 1,000 times more radiation than a human.(这次为期12天的任务证明,暴露在太空中对他们来说没有问题,而且没有重力也没有什么影响。 根据最后一段“Chinese scientists have decoded the key mechanisms that make tardigrades radiation-resistant, which could shed light on how to make human beings stronger against radiation and how to increase the stress tolerance of human cells in the future, according to a study published in the journal Science in October 2024.(根据2024年10月发表在《科学》杂志上的一项研究,中国科学家已经破译了水熊虫抗辐射的关键机制,这可能会揭示如何使人类更强地抵抗辐射,以及如何在未来提高人体细胞的耐受力)”可知,中国科学家研究的重要性是其发现可以应用于帮助人类,使人类更强地抵抗辐射,并在未来提高人体细胞的耐受力。故选A。 D A famous travel writer, pick Iyer, recently wrote of his experience in the deep south of the world. A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Negative. D. Unclear. 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. The scholarship selection process was strict testing candidates’ knowledge, skills, and talent. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Disappointment washed over her, but she refused to let it stop her dreams. Although the interview was a failure, Maya refused to let self-doubt consume her. Her parents also comforted her that they would try their best to sponsor her further education without the scholarship. With firm determination, Maya kept learning and meanwhile, sought alternative paths. She reached out to professors, connected with concerned professionals, and explored other opportunities in the field of space exploration. Maya’s toughness and perseverance attracted the attention of a famous astronaut who recognized her passion and potential. Moved by Maya’s determination, the astronaut became her mentor, guiding her on a new journey. Maya gained hands-on experience, participated in research projects, and immersed herself in the world of space exploration. Years passed, and Maya’s perseverance paid off. She became an accomplished astrophysicist and, eventually, realized her childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. Maya went into space and stared at the earth from above, feeling excited about her great achievements. When looking back all the skepticism and setbacks, she felt they were no longer roadblocks but opportunities for growth. One can achieve extraordinary heights by staying committed to dreams, and persisting in the face of obstacles. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拒绝: refuse/decline ②获得:gain/obtain/acquire ③参加: participate in/take part in/join 品质类 ①坚定的:firm/committed/unwavering ②韧性:toughness/perseverance 【点睛】[高分句型1]Maya’s toughness and perseverance attracted the attention of a famous astronaut who recognized her passion and potential.(运用了who引导的定语从句) [高分句型2]Maya went into space and stared at the earth from above, feeling excited about her great achievements.
