Some students like uniforms.___21___others don't. However, recently, a Japanese government survey shows that more students in Japan like uniforms now___22___school uniforms are more fashionable(时尚的) than they were before. I surveyed some Japanese students about___23___they thought of school uniforms. I asked them, "Are fashionable uniforms popular or not?" There were lots of different opinions. Hiromi said, "I like school uniforms because I don't need to choose clothes every day. I think that fashionable uniforms are good. My high school uniform is fashionable, but there is a problem. Fashionable uniforms are too expensive." Miki said that she didn't like fashionable uniforms because she didn't want to spend so much money on uniforms. She thought that the uniforms should be changed. They should be cheaper and ___24___ to get. 21. A. or B. so C. and D. but 22. A. so B. when C. because D. so that 23. A. why B. how C. where D. what 24. A 选项 “or” 表示 “或者;否则”;B 选项 “so” 表示 “所以”;C 选项 “and” 表示 “和;并且”;D 选项 “but” 表示 “但是”,表转折。 22.详解:“more students in Japan like uniforms now”(现在日本更多的学生喜欢校服)和 “school uniforms are more fashionable (时尚的) than they were before”(校服比以前更时尚了)之间是因果关系,后面是原因。A 选项 “so” 表示 “所以”,表结果;B 选项 “when” 表示 “当…… 时候”,引导时间状语从句;C 选项 “because” 表示 “因为”,引导原因状语从句;D 选项 “so that” 表示 “以便;为了”,引导目的状语从句。所以这里用 “because”,选 C。 23.详解:根据 “I surveyed some Japanese students about ___ they thought of school uniforms.” 可知,这里考查 “what do/does sb. think of...” A 选项 “why” 表示 “为什么”;B 选项 “how” 表示 “怎样”;C 选项 “where” 表示 “哪里”;D 选项 “what” 符合语境,选 D。 24.详解:根据 “She thought that the uniforms should be changed. They should be cheaper and ___ to get.” C。 (B) This story is about an American general (上将)___25___was a very important man in the American army during the First World War. Everybody in the United States knew him and many people wished to have a picture or something of his in their home.Soon after the war the general returned to Washington. One day he went to the doctor and had six teeth ___26___ . A week later, the general heard that his teeth were being sold in some shops at 5 dollars each. On each of the teeth there was a note___27___the name of the general and words: "Buy these teeth and show them to your friends at home." The general got angry. He rushed to his office and ordered to buy all his teeth. The officers went out and visited every shop in the capital. They were away from office all day. In the evening they returned and put the teeth they___28___ on the table in front of the general. They had collected 175 teeth! 25. A. whose B.who C. what D. he 26. A. pulled out B. pulling out C. pull out D. to pull out 27. A. has B. with C. on D. of 28. A. bought B. have bought C. had bought D. buy 【答案】25.B 26.A 27.B 28.C 【导语】一位一战时期的美国著名上将战后拔牙,发现其牙齿被商店出售,上将愤怒下令回收,结果官兵们搜集到了175颗牙齿。 25.详解:分析句子 “This story is about an American general(上将)___ was a very important man in the American army during the First World War.”,“an American general” 是先行词,后面是一个定语从句,先行词指人,且在定语从句中作主语。 26.详解:根据 “One day he went to the doctor and had six teeth ___.” 可知,这里考查 “have sth. done” 结构,意为 “使某事被做”,“teeth” 和 “pull out”(拔出)之间是被动关系,所以用过去分词 “pulled out”。A 选项 “pulled out” 符合 “have sth. done” 结构;B 选项 “pulling out” 是现在分词形式;C 选项 “pull out” 是动词原形;D 选项 “to pull out” 是动词不定式。 27.详解:根据 “On each of the teeth there was a note the name of the general and words...” 28.详解:根据 “In the evening they returned and put the teeth they___ on the table in front of the general.” A. The Cornell method sets up a system to direct students to 35 the paper into two columns. The note-taking column which is usually on the right is twice the size of the key word column on the left. The students leave five to seven lines blank at the bottom of the page. Notes from a lecture or teaching occupy the note-taking column which normally 36 the main ideas of the textbook or lecture. Most complicated ideas and long sentences are 37 while symbols or abbreviations(缩写) are preferred instead. To assist future reviews, instant thoughts or questions should be 38 down as soon as possible so that students may refer to these points for reflection(反思) or further research. The key-word column is a 39 place to note down these ideas. These ideas may later turn into potential research results as students are always encouraged to go over the notes 40 or go deep into the question further. 34. 35. 36. 37. 38. 39. 40. 35.G. divide:“divide...into...” 37.D. avoided:根据后面 “while symbols or abbreviations are preferred instead” 可知,复杂的想法和长句子是被 “避免” 的,所以用 “avoided”。 38.C. noted。 根据上下文选择一个最恰当的答案) Air pollution is a big problem. The U.S. Geological Survey conducts and supports research on the likelihood of future earthquakes. Scientists estimate earthquake probabilities in two ways: by studying the history of large earthquakes in a special area and the rate at which strain (拉力) accumulates (积累) in the rock. Scientists study the past frequency of large earthquakes in order to determine the future likelihood of similar large shocks. For example scientists researched the large earthquakes in the San Francisco Bay region during the 75 years between 1836 and 1911. For the next 68 years, no earthquakes of magnitude (震级) 6 or large occurred in the region. Beginning with a magnitude 6 shock in 1979, the earthquakes in the region increased dramatically; between 1979 and 1989, there were four magnitude 6 or greater earthquakes, including a magnitude 7.1 earthquake. So scientists estimated that the probability of a magnitude 6.8 or larger earthquake occurring during the next 30 years in the region is about 67 percent. Another way to predict earthquakes is to study how fast strain accumulates. When plate movements build the strain in rocks to a critical level, like pulling a rubber band too tight, the rocks will suddenly break and slip to a new position. Scientists measure how much strain accumulates along a fault (断层) each year, how much time has passed since the last earthquake, and how much strain was released in the last earthquake. This information is used to calculate the time required for the accumulating strain to build to the level that results in an earthquake. This simple model is so complicated that such detailed information about faults is rare. In the United States, only the San Andreas Fault System has adequate records for using this prediction method. Scientific understanding of earthquakes is of vital importance to the Nation. As the population increases, expanding urban development and construction encroach (侵蚀) upon areas susceptible (易受影响的)to earthquakes. With a greater understanding of the causes and effects of earthquakes, we may be able to reduce damage and loss of life from this destruction. 56.What does the passage mainly talk about? ________ A.What an earthquake is like. B.How to predict earthquakes. C.Where earthquakes often happen. D.When a fault is formed. 57.That scientists study the history of large earthquakes in certain areas is to ultimately ________. A.do research on the past frequency of large earthquakes B.estimate the magnitude of similar earthquakes C.forecast the possibilities of similar earthquake D.judge the specific location of future earthquakes 58.Which is TRUE according to the passage? ________ A.There were four magnitude 6 earthquakes in the San Francisco Bay region between1979 and 1989. B.The accumulating strain of the fault to a certain level results in the earthquake. C.About 68 years after 1911, no earthquakes occurred in the San Francisco Bay region. D.The fast increasing population on the earth is the main cause of the earthquake. 59.What is the critical factor of forming a fault? ________ A.The material of rocks. B.The existing time span of the rocks. C.The plate movements around the rocks. D.The amount of strain released in the last earthquake. 60.According to the passage, we can know that the San Andreas Fault System ________. A.has a greater understanding of the causes and effects of earthquakes B.stores much more information about the history of large earthquakes C.offers the potential for doing research on the faults where strain accumulates D.illustrates specifically how rocks along a fault are formed 【答案】56.B 57.C 58.B 59.C 60.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 根据每一段首句“The goal of earthquake prediction is to give early enough warning. (地震预报的目的是尽早发出预警。)”、“Scientists study the past frequency of large earthquakes in order to determine the future likelihood of similar large shocks. (科学家研究过去大地震的频率,以确定未来发生类似大地震的可能性。)”和“Another way to predict earthquakes is to study how fast strain accumulates. (另一种预测地震的方法是研究张力积累的速度。)”可知,文章主要讲了如何预测地震。故选B。 57.细节理解题。根据第二段“Scientists study the past frequency of large earthquakes in order to determine the future likelihood of similar large shocks. (科学家研究过去大地震的频率,以确定未来发生类似大地震的可能性。)”可知,科学家研究某些区域大地震的历史,最终是要预报类似地震发生的可能性。故选C。 58.细节理解题。根据第三段“This information is used to calculate the time required for the accumulating strain to build to the level that results in an earthquake. (这些信息被用来计算累积张力达到导致地震的水平所需的时间。)”可知,断层累计张力达到某个水平时会导致地震。故选B。 59.细节理解题。根据第三段“When plate movements build the strain in rocks to a critical level, like pulling a rubber band too tight, the rocks will suddenly break and slip to a new position. (当板块运动使岩石的张力达到临界水平时,就像把橡皮筋拉得太紧一样,岩石会突然断裂,滑到一个新的位置。)”可知,岩石板块运动是形成断层的关键因素。故选C。 60.推理判断题。根据“In the United States, only the San Andreas Fault System has adequate records for using this prediction method. (在美国,只有圣安德烈亚斯断层系统有使用这种预测方法的充分记录。)”可推断,圣安德烈亚斯断层系统给张力积累的断层研究提供了可能性。故选C。 (C) Japan is very serious about robotics If the droids are going to fit in, they probably need to learn the Japanese custom of serving tea. Fortunately, researchers at the University of Tokyo are exploring just that. In a show this week, a humanoid (有人特点的) with camera eyes made by Kawada Industries Inc. poured tea from a bottle into a cup. Then another robot on wheels delivered the cup of tea in an experimental room that has sensors embedded in the floor and sofa as well as cameras on the ceiling, to simulate (模仿) life with robot technology. “A human being may be faster, but you’d have to say ‘Thank you.’ ”said University of Tokyo professor Tomomasa Sato. “That’s the best part about a robot. You don’t have to feel bad about asking it to do things.” Sato believes Japan, a rapidly aging society where more than a fifth of the population is 65 or older, will lead the world in designing robots to care for the elderly, sick and bedridden Already, monitoring technologies, such as sensors that automatically turn on lights when people enter a room, are becoming widespread in Japan. In the past a worker stood in the lift. He or she operated (操作) it up and down. In modern (现代) lifts, there’s no worker. People walk in. They know which floor (楼层) they want to go to. They push (按) a button (按钮) and the lift goes to that floor. It’s very fast and easy. Lifts are very important to us. Why? Think about a tall building. Maybe it has twenty floors. Maybe it has fifty or more. Who can walk up all the stairs (楼梯)? Maybe people can climb them once. Can someone climb thirty floors to an office every day? Can small children walk up to their rooms on the twenty-fourth floor? Of course not. We can have very high buildings because we have lifts. We could not have all the beautiful tall buildings without lifts, because it is too tired for people to climb the stairs every day. 66.What is a lift like? 67.What did a worker do when he or she stood in the lift? 68.Can small children walk up to their rooms on the twenty-fourth floor? 69.Why can we have many high buildings?    70.What is the passage mainly about? 66.It looks like a small room. 67.He or she operated it up and down. 68.No, they can’t. 69.Because we have lifts. 70.A lift is very useful./Lifts are very important to us. 66.根据“A lift is very useful. Lance answered they would do it tomorrow because he would go out with his brother Nathan. Then Lance ran home and prepared things for skating. Later, Nathan came home. He asked Lance why a girl was sitting outside. Lance told his brother the reason. “So you got a better plan and canceled on her,” Nathan said. “I’ll do it with her tomorrow.” answered Lance. Nathan said, “I’ll get my car keys.” When Nathan came back, he told Lance he would watch a game because Scott got two tickets. “What about the skate park?” Lance asked. “We’ll go tomorrow.” Nathan said. Lance said angrily, “You promised me!” Nathan said, “Do you know how Haley feels now?” Lance looked out of the window. “I’ll do the homework today.” “Good!” said Nathan. “You can ask her to join us after you finish it.” Feeling happily, Lance understood the sentence “A promise is a promise.” deeply. 51.Lance won’t do science homework today because he will ________. D.It never rains but it pours. 55.From the story we can know Nathan is a________ boy. A.clever B.poor C.careless D.strong (B) The goal of earthquake prediction is to give early enough warning. A.has a greater understanding of the causes and effects of earthquakes B.stores much more information about the history of large earthquakes C.offers the potential for doing research on the faults where strain accumulates D.illustrates specifically how rocks along a fault are formed (C) Japan is very serious about robotics (机器人技术). If the droids are going to fit in, they probably need to learn the Japanese custom of serving tea. You don’t have to feel bad about asking it to do things.” Sato believes Japan, a rapidly aging society where more than a fifth of the population is 65 or older, will lead the world in designing robots to care for the elderly, sick and bedridden (卧床不起的). Already, monitoring technologies, such as sensors that automatically turn on lights when people enter a room, are becoming widespread in Japan. The walking, child -size Asimo from Honda Motor Co. greets people at show-rooms. NEC Corp. has developed a smaller companion robot-on-wheels called Papero. A seal robot available since 2004 can entertain the elderly and others in need of fuzzy companionship.
