“You showed me where the key was yesterday,” she laughed. “I’ve got it in my pocket. So you ought to show me the door today!”
The robin (知更鸟) hopped on to an old climbing plant on the wall, and sang his most beautiful song. Suddenly the wind made the plant move, and Mary saw something under the dark green leaves. The thick, heavy plant was covering a door. Mary’s heart was beating fast and her hands were shaking as she pushed the leaves away and found the keyhole. She took the key out of her pocket, and it fitted the hole. Using both hands, she managed to unlock the door. Then she turned round to see if anyone was watching. But there was no one, so she pushed the door, which opened, slowly, for the first time in ten years. She walked quickly in and shut the door behind her. At last she was inside the secret garden!
It was the loveliest, most exciting place she had ever seen. There were old rose trees everywhere, and the walls were covered with climbing roses. She looked carefully at the grey branches. Were the roses still alive? Ben would know. She hoped they weren’t all dead. But she was inside the wonderful garden, in a world of her own. It seemed very strange and silent, but she did not feel lonely at all. Then she noticed some small green shoots (嫩芽) coming up through the grass. So something was growing in the garden after all! When she found a lot more shoots in different places, she decided they needed more air and light, so she began to pull out the thick grass around them. She worked away, clearing the ground, for two or three hours, and had to take her coat off because she got so hot. The robin hopped around, pleased to see someone gardening.

People are beginning looking for ways of getting around that didn’t involve crowded (拥挤的) forms of public transportation because of the corona virus pandemic (新冠病毒流行). Biking happens in the open air, and the chance of catching the corona virus while riding is very low, so biking is seen as a safe way to travel.
Biking has also grown more popular because it’s one of the few forms of exercise that has been allowed during many lockdowns. With gyms and fitness centers shut down, biking fills a need for many active people.
Families like biking, too. With schools closed, and kids unable to hang out with their friends, biking is a welcome activity. For many people, that’s the main point—biking is fun.
But bikes are also practical. Experts say that for people in some cities, nearly 60% of their trips can be made by bike. Many cities are seeing this as a chance to make their streets safer and greener. Cities around the world are adding miles of bike lanes to their streets to encourage (鼓励) biking.
New York says it will close off up to 100 miles of roads so they can be used by bikers and walkers. Oakland, California plans to close 74 miles to traffic—that’s almost 10% of the streets in the city.
Paris has set up over 400 miles of new bike lanes (车道). Cars and trucks have been banned from 75 miles of streets in Bogota, Colombia. In Milan Italy, 22 miles of its roads have been converted (转变).
Though many of these bike lanes are only being added for a short time, if changes in biking habits become permanent, they could seriously cut down car traffic and help make cities a lot greener.
37.According to the passage, biking has grown popular because ________.
① biking is a safe way to travel during the pandemic
② biking is much cheaper than public transportation

C.Paris made the biggest effort to add new bike lanes.
D.Biking is less popular because of the corona virus pandemic.
39.The underlined word “permanent” in the last paragraph means “________.”

40.What does the author think of biking?
A.Biking will be a reason for car traffic.

In the UK, bus journeys are very common. Buses are often convenient(便利的)for the people who live or work in the city centre. Passengers can avoid heavy traffic and do not have to pay for the parking. However, taking the bus is just a necessary but boring part of life: They get on the bus, pay for it and sit down or find a place to stand when it is crowded. Everyone seems sad and bored.
In Latin America, however, bus trips can be wonderful. For a start, films are showed on the buses between cities for passengers to have fun along the journeys. Local buses do not show films, but drivers usually turn on the radio and it can be great for passengers to listen to songs and get relaxed.
Even better than films and music are the sights and sounds on the buses. Local buses always go to parts of the town that passengers would not visit by themselves. There passengers can see shops that they have never heard about. And they can also see other cultures of the town from the windows of the buses.
Besides, passengers’ luggage(行李)is also interesting. It is common to see a happy dog’s head getting out of somebody’s bag or a lovely chicken “speaking cheerfully” under somebody’s arm. Once on a bus in Peru, a farmer even tied a sheep to the top of the bus. It was quite surprising.
In all, taking the bus in Latin America is really fun and unforgettable.
