Malala Yousafzai is widely acknowledged as one of the prominent young activists on the global stage. Among her numerous honors are her roles as an advocate for education, a human rights activist, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Born in Mingora, Pakistan, in 1997, Malala encountered tough challenges from a young age, yet she emerged as a global symbolization of resilience (坚韧) and unwavering determination.
At the age of 11, Malala embarked on her advocacy for girls’ education in her hometown, undeterred by the threats from the Taliban, who fiercely opposed female education. Her remarkable courage and perseverance drew international attention, but it also made her a high-profile target. In 2012, she was the victim of a brutal attack by a gunman while en route home from school. The assassination (暗杀) attempt, intended to silence her, paradoxically strengthened her voice on the global stage, spreading her message to an international audience.
How did Malala Yousafzai transform adversity (逆境) into advocacy and become global icon status? Following her arduous recovery, she persisted in championing the right to education. Her first speech at the United Nations in 2013 represented a crucial moment in her pursuit. Subsequently, she co-authored her memoir, “I Am Malala”, which became international bestseller status. In 2014, at the age of 17, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest-ever winner for her brave struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the universal right to education.
Malala’s activism exceeds the field of education. She has used her influential platform to advocate for human rights, gender equality, and peace. Her organization, the Malala Fund, is dedicated to ensuring that every girl has access to 12 years of free, safe, and quality education. Despite the challenges she has faced, Malala remains an indomitable beacon of hope and inspiration for millions across the globe.
4. Why did the 2012 attack on Malala backfire?
A. It led to the immediate collapse of the Taliban’s cause.
B. It silenced other activists advocating for girls’ education.
C. It drew widespread attention to her cause and highlighted her message.
D. It caused Malala to give in to the Taliban’s cause out of fear.
5. What does the phrase “transform adversity into advocacy” in paragraph 3 most likely imply about Malala Yousafzai’s journey?
A. She used her personal struggles as a platform to fight for others’ rights.
B. She abandoned her activism after facing life-threatening challenges.
C. She focused on her recovery and avoided public attention.
D. She shifted her focus from education to political leadership.
6. Which of the following best describes Malala Yousafzai?
A. Courageous and determined. B. Ambitious and adventurous.
C. Sympathetic and forgiving. D. Tolerant and resilient.
7. What is the main point of Malala Yousafzai’s story?
A. Education is the key to empowerment.
B. Fame comes with opportunities and risks.
C. Young girls can contribute to social change.
D. Adversity can be overcome with determination and hope.
A new report connects eating eggs to an increased risk of heart disease. The results follow several earlier studies that found eating eggs was generally healthy. The study collects data from six other earlier studies. It shows a 6 percent increased risk of heart disease when the number of eggs a person ate each day increased by half an egg.
Norrina Allen, an associate professor at Northwestern University said that, in the United States, eggs are generally one of the top sources of cholesterol (胆固醇) in a person’s daily food. People with higher levels of cholesterol in their food are at increased risk of the development of heart disease later in life. However, Allen added that she would not say that eggs are completely unhealthy. “I’m not saying that people should take them completely out of their food,” she said. “I’m just suggesting that people eat them in a proper amount.”
Some experts believe the new study does not prove that eggs are causing heart disease. “Cholesterol’s role in the development of heart disease has been discussed for more than 30 years,” said Dennis Bruemmer, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. “This study does have clear shortcomings, including self-reporting at a single time point,” he added.
Bruemmer said, “Eggs in moderation (适度) are probably acceptable from a nutritional standpoint.” “Moderation,” he added, “is less than one egg a day, including eggs in foods such as bread.”
Holly Andersen, a doctor at the New York-Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center, agrees that the study has “real shortcomings”. One problem Andersen has with the study is that a lot of the egg-eating people in the study also appeared to be eating much meat and processed meat. “If you’re taking a lot of processed meat, it doesn’t matter how many eggs you’re eating,” Andersen said.
Also, Andersen said, “The study can only show there is a relation between eggs eating and heart disease. But it cannot prove eggs are the cause of the disease. It may just be that people eating a lot of eggs are also taking a lot of bacon.”
8. What does Norrina Allen agree with?
A. Eggs are completely unhealthy.
B. Eggs contain the most cholesterol.
C. Eggs should be eaten in a right amount.
D. Eggs have no connection with heart disease.
9. What is Bruemmer’s attitude towards the study?
A. Interested. B. Doubtful. C. Indifferent. D. Hopeful.
10. What can we learn from Holly Andersen’s words?
A. Eggs and meat cannot be eaten together.
B. Processed meat may cause heart disease.
C. Processed meat should be avoided.
D. The study is supported by evidence.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Do Eggs Cause Heart Disease?
B. Are Eggs the Top Source of Cholesterol?
C. What’s the Proper Amount of Eggs Eaten?
D. Is the Cholesterol to Blame for Heart Disease?
Sustainability was a hot topic at the Paris Air Show, the world’s largest event for the aviation industry (航空业), which faces increasing pressure to reduce the climate-changing greenhouse gases that aircraft emit. Even the massive orders at the show got an emission-reduction perspective: Airlines and producers said the new planes would be more fuel-efficient than the ones they replaced. However, most of those planes will burn conventional kerosene-based (煤油) jet fuel.
Some companies are working on electric-powered aircraft, which is regarded as a way to reduce the environmental effects of the aviation industry, providing zero emissions and quieter flights. However, they are still some way off from widespread commercial use. That means Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) has become the industry’ s best hope of achieving its promise of net zero emissions by 2050. Sustainable fuel, however, accounts for just 0.1% of all jet fuel. Made from sources like used cooking oil and plant waste, SAF can be mixed with conventional jet fuel.
A consumer group — BEUC — made a complaint against the European Union’s executive branch, accusing 17 airlines of greenwashing. The group says airlines are misleading consumers and breaking rules on commercial practices by encouraging customers to pay extra to help finance the development of SAF and offset (抵消) future carbon emissions created by flying. In one case, the group’s researchers found Air France charging up to 138 euros for the green option.
With such a limited supply of SAF, critics say airlines are making overly ambitious promises and overstate how quickly they can increase the use of SAF. The industry even has doubters: Nearly one-third of aviation sustainability officers in an Aerospace survey doubt whether the industry will hit its net zero goal by 2050. “Sustainable aviation fuel is indeed the biggest technological potential to decarbonize the aviation sector, but the main problem is that it isn’t available,” said Dimitri Vergne, a senior policy officer at BEUC. “We know that before the end of the next decade, it won’t be available in massive quantities. Besides, it costs much more than conventional jet fuel,” Vergne added.
12. What did airlines and producers emphasize at the Paris Air Show?
A. Ways of reducing fuel consumption.
B. Achievements in planes’ safety performance.
C. Environmental friendliness of their new planes.
D. Efficiency of conventional kerosene-based jet fuel.
13. Why does the author mention electric-powered aircraft?
A. To stress the necessity of developing SAF.
B. To highlight the future of the aviation industry.
C. To show efforts made to achieve net zero emissions.
D. To explain their advantages over traditional aircraft.
14. What’s BEUC’s complaint mainly about?
A. Airlines’ objection to consumers’ green option.
B. Airlines’ ineffective way of developing SAF.
C. Airlines’ abuse of financial assistance.
D. Airlines’ greenwashing practices.
15. What would be the best title for the text?
A. Sustainable Aviation Fuel: A Game Changer for Greener Flights
B. Airline Industry’s Promised Green Shift: Challenges on the Way
C. Addressing Climate Change: Effective Steps Required to Reduce Air Travel
D. Fuel Efficiency Revolution: Laying the Groundwork for Emission Reduction

On the first day of sixth grade, I sat in my quiet homeroom class and observed all the people who I would eventually befriend and possibly graduate with. I glanced around the room and noticed that the majority of the middle class kids were dressed in their nicest first day of school outfits.
My glance stopped on a shy-looking girl in the back of the room. She wore worn-out, mismatched clothes. Her hair was unusually short and unwashed. I caught myself thinking, "That’s disgusting (恶心的). Doesn’t she know what a bathtub is?" As I looked around, I figured others were probably thinking the same thing.
The teacher began checking the attendance, each person casually lifting his or her hand as names were called in turn.
"Terri Jackson?" the teacher asked.
Finally we heard a submissive answer from the back of the room, followed by the sound of rubbing cloth. We all shifted in our seats to see what had happened.
"Scary Terri rubbed her shirt!" one boy joked. "Eww, I bet it’s a hundred years old!" another girl commented. One comment after another brought a roar of laughter.
I was probably laughing the loudest. Sadly, making Terri feel insecure made me feel secure and confident. It was a good break from the awkward silence and uncomfortable first day.
Terri Jackson was the joke of the whole sixth grade that year. If we had nothing to talk about,
Terri’s trip through the lunchroom was an entertaining conversation starter.
At my twelfth birthday party, ten gossipy girls were playing Truth or Dare (真心话大冒险), a favorite party game. We had just finished a Terri Jackson discussion. It was my turn at the game.
"Umm... Sydney! Truth or Dare?" one of my friends asked.
"How about a dare? Bring it on. I’ll do anything." Oh, if only I’d known what she was about to say.
"Okay, I dare you to invite Terri Jackson over to your house next Friday for two whole hours!"
"Two whole hours? Please ask something else, please!" I begged. "How could anybody do that?" But I have no choice.
The next day, I cautiously walked up to Terri.

I found myself actually enjoying her company.

【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了黄金海岸的几座主题公园。
【1题详解】
推理判断题。根据Movie World中的“As the only movie-related theme park in Australia, Movie World features an outstanding coast and a good handful of movie-related rides, enabling you to experience an exciting adventure full of Hollywood’s charm. Get behind-the-scenes movie information and stunt shows(特技表演)to keep the whole family entertained for the best part of a day.
根据Tropical Fruit World中的“Admission is $36 for adults and $17 for kids and free for kids under 5.(门票成人36美元,儿童17美元,5岁以下儿童免费)”可知,Tropical Fruit World的成人门票36美元,儿童门票17美元,5岁以下儿童免费。因此带一对11岁的双胞胎去,需花费36+17×2=70美元。故选C。

Malala Yousafzai is widely acknowledged as one of the prominent young activists on the global stage. Among her numerous honors are her roles as an advocate for education, a human rights activist, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Is it necessary to apply AI in class?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Is it Necessary to Apply AI in Class?
Recently, our class had a heated discussion on the topic of “whether artificial intelligence (AI) should be introduced into the classroom” during our English lesson.
Supporters argue that AI can provide personalized learning plans tailored to each student’s strengths and weaknesses, ensuring that everyone can learn at their own pace. However, some students argue that excessive reliance on AI may hinder students’ critical thinking skills.
In my opinion, we should strive to balance the benefits of AI with the need to cultivate students’ independent thinking and problem-solving skills. Strict measures should be in place to protect students’ privacy and data security when using AI systems.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】The next day, I cautiously walked up to Terri. My heart raced as I approached her, uncertain of how she would react. As I nervously extended the invitation for her to come over to my house on Friday, I could see the surprise flicker across her face, almost disbelief shining in her eyes. But then, to my relief and joy, her expression softened. I’d never seen her flash her toothless smile so brightly. The rest of the day I had a good feeling, and I was not dreading the two hour visit as I had before. I was almost looking forward to it. Friday rolled around quickly. Terri reached my house on schedule.
I found myself actually enjoying her company. We chatted about her family and her battles with poverty. I realized how wrong I had been to judge her based on her appearance. Towards the end of our visit, I mustered up the courage to apologize for my past behavior. Terri’s forgiving smile warmed my heart, and from that moment on, I made a promise to myself to always stand up for her whenever bullying occurred. We parted ways that day as friends, and our bond only grew stronger with each passing day.
