Once upon a time,a fisherman caught a bottle inhis fishing net.When he opened it,a great cloudcame out and became a genie! “Prepare to die!”shouted the genie.“A long timeago,I made a promise.If someone set me free,I would make them rich and powerful.But noone ever came.After years and years of waiting,Ibecame very angry.If anyone set me free,I wouldkill them instead of giving them anything.So,youmust die!" Possible answer What would the fisherman say to the genie? “Oh great genie, please don't be so hasty! I didn't know about your past promise and anger. Maybe we can talk and find a better solution. I have a family to take care of and I meant no harm by setting you free." Would the genie kill the fisherman? If so, how? The genie might try to kill the fisherman by creating a huge wave to drown him in the sea or by sending a bolt of lightning to strike him down. Would the fisherman succeed in saving himself? If so, how? He might tell the genie that he knows of a treasure hidden deep in the ocean that no one else knows about. He could offer to lead the genie to it if the genie spares his life. The genie, being greedy for riches, might agree and spare the fisherman for the time being. What would happen in the end? In the end, the fisherman and the genie might go on a journey to find the supposed treasure … Step 3 While-writing 2b Exchange your drafts and share your ideas with your group members. Language points 1、Once upon a time, a fisherman caught a bottle in his fishing net. 从前，一个渔夫用他的渔网捞到了一个瓶子。 fisherman〔可数名词〕渔夫；其复数形式是fishermen。 类似的复数变化还有： 　man→men(男人) 　woman→women(女人) 　policeman→policemen(男警察) 　gentleman→gentlemen(先生) 2、"Prepare to die!”shouted the genie." 准备去死吧！”妖怪大喊道。 (1)prepare〔动词〕准备；预备 ① prepare to do sth 准备做某事 eg：We are preparing to go on holiday. 　我们正准备去度假。 ② prepare sth for sb / sth 为......准备某物 eg：You must prepare a room for the boy.　 你必须为这个男孩准备一个房间。 Mum is busy preparing food for my grandma’s eightith birthday party. 妈妈正在忙着为奶奶的八十大寿史准备食物。 ③ prepare for sth 为某事做准备 eg：He is preparing for the World Cup. 他正在为世界杯做准备。 (2) die〔不及物动词〕死亡；消失。 过去式为died, 现在分词为 dying。 【注意】die强调“死”这一动作,指生命的结束,不与表示一段时间的状语连用。 如表示状态，与表示一段时间的状语连用，要用be dead。 Mark’s grandma has been dead for three days. Her death makes Mark so sad that he always can’t help thinking of her dying words. 马克的奶奶去世三天了。她死于癌症，在她75岁生日时去世。她的逝世让马克非常伤心，他总是不能自已地想起她的临终遗言。 3、 If someone set me free, I would make them rich and powerful. 如果有人释放我，我会让他们富有和强大。 (1)someone〔复合不定代词〕某人；有人。相当于somebody。 someone作主语时，谓语动词要用单数形式。 eg：There is someone waiting for you at the school gate. 有人在校门口等你。 Please say thank you when someone helps you. 当有人帮助了你时，请说谢谢。 (2)anyone〔复合不定代词〕任何人某个人；与anybody同义。 通常用于否定句和疑问句中，也可用于条件句中。 anyone作主语时，谓语动词要用单数形式。 eg：Is anyone here?   这儿有人吗？ I won't tell anyone about it.　 我不会告诉任何人这件事。 If anyone calls, please tell me.　 如果有人打电话，请告诉我。 【注意】形容词修饰someone, anyone等复合不定代词时,要放在复合不定代词后面。 eg：Was anyone famous born there?　 有名人出生在那里吗? 4. If someone set me free, I would make them rich and powerful.如果有人释放我，我会让他们富有和强大。 (1) set......free 释放 eg：He set the bird free from the room.　他把鸟从房间里放了出来。 (2)set ① [动词〕使处于某种状态；使开始过去式为 set。 set sb doing sth 使某人做某事 eg：His words set me thinking. 　他的话使我陷入了思考。 ②〔名词〕一套；一副；一组 　 a set of stamps 一套邮票 　　 a set of books 一套书 eg：The set of keys is Kate's.　这串钥匙是凯特的。 (3)rich〔形容词〕 ①富有的（反义词：poor)   eg：a rich country一个富有的国家　 He is very rich, but he isn't happy. 　他很富有，但他不快乐。 【注意】the rich表示“富人”。 ②富含......的   be rich in富含...... eg：Oranges are rich in vitamin C.　 橙子富含维生素C。 ③丰富多彩的 eg：China has a long history and rich culture.　 中国有悠久的历史及丰富多彩的文化。 (4) powerful〔形容词〕强大的；有影响力的； 是由名词power加后缀-ful构成的形容词。 eg：Our country is very powerful now.　 现在我们的国家很强大。 My uncle is a powerful man.　 我叔叔是一个有影响力的人。 【词缀学习】-ful是常见的形容词后缀，表示“充满……的；有……性质 (或倾向)的”, 可加在某些名词后构成形容词。 colour n. 颜色—colourful adj. 颜色鲜艳的 beauty n. 美丽—beautiful adj. 美丽的 use n. 用途—useful adj. 有用的 meaning n. 含义—meaningful adj. 有意义的 5、辨析：instead of与instead ①instead of 而不是；代替； 介词短语；后面常接名词、代词或动词-ing形式。 ②instead 代替；反而； 副词；置于句首或句末。 eg：I'll clean the classroom instead of you.　 我将替你打扫教室。 They talked instead of doing their home-work.   他们交谈而不是做家庭作业。 She didn't play basketball. She went swimming instead.  她没有打篮球，而是去游泳了。 He didn't answer my question.
