When it comes to Florida, most travelers think of its beautiful beaches. If you’re planning a trip to a beach in Florida with your kids, keep reading to find a lovely one.
St. Augustine Beach
This beach is one of the only beaches in the state where you can motor in certain places while enjoying the views. Along the beach, there are picnic areas, a sand volleyball court, and plenty of local restaurants to enjoy. St. Augustine Beach is extremely busy in spring and summer because of the nearby colleges on break, so be sure to get to the beach early for a good spot.
Fernandina Beach
Every year, thousands of people flood into the area during the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, where you can try shrimp (虾) cooked in as many ways as Bubba talks about in the film Forrest Gump. It’s also desirable for families to have a picnic and play games in Main Beach Park.
Cocoa Beach
Surf culture is a big part of the beach experience at Cocoa Beach. Every day, adults are out on the beach surfing together or watching their kids get lessons from the local instructors. There are various lessons such as wind-surfing and kiteboarding to choose from. If you want to get the skills quickly, you can sign up for private lessons. For even more fun, the Florida Surf Museum is close to the beach and worth visiting.
Fort Walton Beach
The beach is a fantastic spot for family vacations at any time of the year. Families are typically attracted by the green ocean with calm waters, white sand, and overall views of the beach. Besides the sun and surfing, the area has plenty to offer to families, like Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, where everyone is encouraged to interact with nature and animals by feeding turtles or meeting sea lions.

The grocery store might not be your favorite place to visit when you’re at home, but isn’t it ever fun when you’re in another country? Honestly speaking, they’re one of those strange little destinations that I like to sniff out everywhere I go, much as other travellers head toward clothing stores, libraries, cafés or galleries.
The biggest beauty of the grocery store—whether it’s a huge supermarket or a tiny one—is that it gives you a glimpse into what local people buy to cook. This offers clues into their lifestyles and preferences, and into the agricultural and cooking practices of the country. I stare at the strange fruits and vegetables, the seafood, the cheese, the spices, the breads, and oh, the chocolate... always the chocolate!
Being an environmental nerd ( 痴 迷 者 ) I am, I like paying attention to packaging, which can reflect their attitude towards environmental protection. Italy, for example, has a habit of requiring customers to bag their fruits and vegetables in plastic for weighing, while Sri Lanka leaves everything loose in bins. In Brazil, everything is prepackaged in a layer of plastic.
People in grocery stores tend to be friendlier. They smile, say hello, and sometimes ask questions, which can lead to great conversations. I had a further discussion with a teen-aged cashier in Sri Lanka, over which bag of crunchy mix to buy. He insisted that the one labeled ‘spicy’ would be too hot for me, but I told him I was willing to risk it. He laughed and we ended up talking about my favorite Sri Lankan foods for ten minutes.
The financial savings extend to souvenirs, too. Whether it is ground spices for my mom or chocolates for my kids, the grocery store is the first place I look for unique gifts. It’s interesting then to come home and look at one’s own local grocery store through new eyes. What would a visitor think? What stands out, and what do the food displays say about us as a culture? You might be surprised by what you realize.
4. What is the benefit of visiting grocery stores of other countries in the author’s opinion?
A. Knowing their financial practice.
B. Making friends with store owners.
C. Buying cheaper food and souvenirs.
D. Knowing local people and the country.
5. Why does the author mention some countries she visited?
A. To show their strange lifestyles.
B. To show the levels of their wealth.
C. To show their packaging advantages.
D. To show their environmental awareness.
6. What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A. Sri Lankans tend to become friendlier.
B. Grocery stores are always social places.
C People like to share their ideas about food.
D. More cultures can be learned in grocery stores.
7. What would the author probably suggest readers doing?
A. Visiting grocery stores while travelling.
B. Buying cultural souvenirs in foreign countries.
C. Knowing the grocery culture before travelling.
D. Exchanging shopping experience with friends.
C
American gymnast Simone Biles flies through the air as though she was made for it. She has won more World Championship gold medals than any other female gymnast in history. She is also the first women gymnast to win three World all-around titles in a row. A complicated flip (翻转动作) she introduced in the 2013 World Championships is one of four skills that are named after her, and some consider her the greatest of all time.
Athletes are under pressure, and a small mistake can result in serious injury. At the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Biles experienced something gymnast call “the twisties,” which is when a gymnast has no idea where his or her body is in the air. Instead of putting herself and her team at risk, Biles gave up the competition. However, she worked out in a private gym and was able to compete in the last-scheduled individual event: the balance beam, winning the bronze medal.
When she was young, Biles was raised by her grandfather Ron, and was introduced to gymnastics at the age of 6 on a school field trip to a gym. She saw some gymnasts practicing, began copying their moves and insisted that her parents send her for gymnastics lessons. A coach at the gym also recognized her talent and sent a letter home asking her parents to send her for lessons.
Throughout her career, Biles has kept her passion for the sport, which can be seen clearly in the huge smile she often wears while competing. But she also wants people to know the importance of putting mental health first and not ignoring how stress can influence them.
In Biles’ 2016 memoir (回忆录), titled Courage to Soar, the book tells in her words “how my faith and my family made my wildest dreams come true. And how embracing a dream can give you courage to soar.” Biles’ ability to perform at the highest level has inspired new generations of athletes, but her willingness to be honest about her struggles inspires everyone.
8. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us about Biles?
A. Her high spirit. B. Her wide fame.
C. Her great achievements. D. Her wonderful skills.
9. What happened to Biles at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games?
A. She was seriously injured. B. She had a hard time.
C. She got a gold medal. D. She put her team at risk.
10. What do we know about Biles from the text?
A. She has got the most gold medals in history.
B. Four skills were named after her in 2013.
C. She showed her talent for gymnastics at an early age.
D. Her grandfather insisted that she take gymnastics lessons.
11. Which of the following can best describe Biles?
A. Strong-willed and talented. B. Confident and warm-hearted.
C. Determined and generous. D. Hard-working and curious.
D
Last Saturday, when my grandfather got frustrated at the name of the singer of a song, I grabbed my smartphone and found it in seconds. This astonished my grandfather, who didn’t understand how I’d checked the information so quickly. I laughed and explained, but afterwards, it made me think about how much I depend on technology.
When I reflected on its impact on my education, I saw that technology has been significant in many ways. Returning to the story of my grandfather, he had asked me more about how I used it and about university life. He said he thought we had an easy life compared to previous generations. I could see his point.
Not only are we lucky enough to have the same educational benefits as those of previous generations, but we have so many more. We still have walk-in libraries; however, the only option for studying used to be sitting in these libraries with as many books from your reading list as you could find, yet now a single search online can immediately provide access to a huge range of resources. Interaction between students and university staff is another area that has changed considerably. We can have face-to-face time with our tutors, and also communicate using our electronic devices. The most popular means is via social media, and it has become unacceptable for messages to be unanswered for any length of time. While this puts an extra stress on the university’s academic support team, we students are greatly benefited.
When we compare the student life of the past and the present, it is tempting to focus on the obvious differences in technology. In fact, students are doing what they’ve always done: embracing the resources available and adapting them to work more efficiently and to live more enjoyably. The pace of change in technology continuously gathers speed, so we have to value each innovation as it happens.
12. Why does the author mention the story of his grandfather?
A. To share an interesting experience. B. To draw readers’ attention to the topic.
C. To provide an example for his opinion. D. To arouse readers’ concern about a problem.
13. What is the grandfather’s attitude towards the role of technology?
A. Favourable. B. Tolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
14. What is a new challenge technology brings to the academic support team?
A. Using various electronic devices. B. Scheduling online communication.
C. Providing more flexible reading lists. D. Responding to all inquiries from students.
15. What can be concluded from the last paragraph?
A. Students should make full use of technology.
B. Students should value the time and enjoy their life.
C. We should take technological differences seriously.
D. We should resist the temptation of up-coming innovation.

【答案】12. B 13. A 14. D 15. A

My View on Sportsmanship
Hello, everyone! It’s my great honour to share with you my view on sportsmanship. To me, sportsmanship is about more than just winning or losing; it’s about respect, fair play, and perseverance. It’s about how we handle victory with humility and defeat with grace.
For instance, I’m inspired by the story of Michael Jordan, who, despite facing numerous setbacks, never gave up and became one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His dedication to the sport and his teammates exemplifies true sportsmanship.
These values have had a profound impact on me. They’ve taught me that in life, as in sports, it’s not just about the outcome but the journey and the character we display along the way. Sportsmanship has shown me the importance of teamwork, respect for others, and the courage to keep going even when the odds are against me.
