M: It doesn’t matter. W: OK. I’ll call you when the table is ready. Your name, please? M: It’s Montague, M-o-n-t-a-g-u-e. Could we look at the menu while we are waiting? W: Certainly! I’m sure your mother will like them. W: Oh, that’s fine. By the way, can I write something down on a card and put it in the flowers? M: No problem. W: Well, my neighbor has plenty of vegetables in her backyard. She often shares them with me, or they may go bad. So, I came up with the idea of starting a food exchange. In this way, people can share food with each other. No food will go to waste. M: Nice one! We’ve heard that the Food Exchange was built by the roadside, right? W: Yeah. Actually, it’s just a simple wooden stand. People bring their home-grown vegetables and fruits there and take home what they want. And they’re expected to post a video or some photos on their social media. Thus, others know what has been added or taken. M: What about those people who don’t grow anything? W: Ha-ha, I’m one of those people. I usually take some fresh fruit, jam or dried vegetables there. 18.C 19.A 20.B 【原文】    W: Mr. Day was on holiday. He was staying in a small town famous for blankets. One sunny morning he went to the market, and saw a beautiful blanket there. It was big and full of rich colors. He looked at it for a long time, and then went away. The next day he asked about the price. “This one, Sir? “This is a very special blanket,” said the woman. “Yes, but how much is it?” “It’s a special one, Sir, so it is not cheap. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” “Yes, it is very beautiful but…” “It is also very old. It belonged to a great man many years ago. So I can’t sell it cheap.” “No. How much is it?” Mr. Day asked again. “A beautiful old blanket, Sir, and also a magic one. A magic flying blanket. A man came this morning and offered me five hundred pounds for it.” “Oh,” said Mr. Day. “But I like you, Sir. You look like a very nice gentleman. I will sell it to you. Five hundred and fifty pounds.” “Hmm,” Mr. Day thought for a moment, “All right.” “Very good, Sir,” said the woman. “Will you pay now and take it with you?” “No,” said Mr. Day. “Here is my address. Fly over on the blanket. I’ll pay you when you arrive.” 21.A 22.C 23.B 【导语】这是一篇应用文。 根据原文Chengdu, China部分中提到的“If visiting a place with happy locals is a priority for you, there’s no better city to hit than Chengdu.(如果您想去一个有快乐当地人的地方,那么没有比成都更好的城市了。)” 故选A。 22. 根据Con Dao,Vietnam(越南昆岛)部分的 “Con Dao Island Nation Park, a group of dramatic tiny islands off the southern coast, is a great destination to see sea turtles and other wildlife while exploring the area on foot.(孔岛国家公园是南部海岸附近的一组引人注目的小岛,是徒步探索该地区时看到海龟和其他野生动物的好去处。)”及Zakynthos, Greece部分的“There are plenty of free things to do, although the favorite is spending time on the beautiful beaches edged by electric blue water.(这里有很多免费的事情可以做,尽管最受欢迎的是在蔚蓝的海水边美丽的海滩上度过时光。)” 根据第一段提及“…a new travel blog dedicated to sharing experience with credit card points and miles to help you get big travel but for small spend. With the right planning and maximization of available resources, traveling as a college student may be easier than you think. (…… 根据第二段中 “Skin cancer did have cures and was treatable in most cases. However, the average price of skin cancer treatment globally was almost $40,000. Those shocking statistics really inspired him to create a more accessible solution.”(皮肤癌确实可以治愈,而且在大多数情况下是可以治疗的。 根据第三段的“So he reached out to people at University of Virginia and people at Georgetown, and he got a lot of assistance. The number one person would be Deborah Isabelle, who helped him organize and structure his ideas during the finalist competition.”(所以他联系了弗吉尼亚大学和乔治城大学的老师,他得到了很多帮助。 根据第四段“Bekele’s award-winning soap is a compound based bar of soap and it’s charged with different cancer fighting chemicals. The color of the soap is a bit of a dark type of white and it has a rough surface, which could be a good exfoliant(去角质剂).It does have a strong medicine smell and feel a bit stickier. The whole point of it is that even once you wash off the soaps, the medicinal parts will stay on your skin.It can activate the body’s immune cells to defend cancer.”(Bekele的获奖肥皂是一种复合肥皂,它含有不同的抗癌化学物质。 故选 A项。 27. 根据第二段中“However, the average price of skin cancer treatment globally was almost $40,000. Those shocking statistics really inspired him to create a more accessible solution.”(然而,全球皮肤癌治疗的平均价格接近4万美元。 可知Heman Bekele关心他人;又根据第一段中“Rather than spending his free time playing video games or staring at his phone, this 14 year-old from Fairfax, Virginia was calling professors and conducting experiments, all to create a soap that could treat skin cancer, and to make it affordable for everyone who needs it.”(这个来自弗吉尼亚州费尔法克斯的14岁男孩没有把空闲时间花在玩电子游戏或盯着手机上,而是打电话给教授并进行实验,所有这些都是为了创造一种可以治疗皮肤癌的肥皂,并使每个需要它的人都能负担得起。);以及最后一段“Bekele won 25,000 prize money and he was going to use it to continue research.”(Bekele赢得了2.5万美元的奖金,他打算用这笔钱继续研究。) 根据第一段最后一句“But I became fully attentive on a recent morning once I realized the entire newscast was dedicated to local wildlife.(但在最近的一个早晨,当我意识到整个新闻节目都是关于当地野生动物的,我就全神贯注了。)”和第二段“There was something about the pack of some 30 to 50 javelinas (野猪) that ruined a golf course near Sedona, Arizona, followed by talk of the recent sighting of a jaguar (美洲虎), a species that ranged across Arizona and Sonora, Mexico, until construction of the border wall blocked the way. Finally, there was an update on Mexican wolf reintroduction efforts in New Mexico and Arizona. The results were mixed: Nine of the wolves had died or been killed recently.(一群大约有30到50只的野猪毁坏了亚利桑那州塞多纳附近的一个高尔夫球场,接着是最近看到美洲虎的传闻,这种物种在亚利桑那州和墨西哥索诺拉之间活动,直到修建边境墙挡住了道路。 根据第三段的句子“The way I saw it, the javelinas weren’t invading (入侵) the site; they were reclaiming it. After all, the javelinas’ needs—for food and space—are more basic than a few privileged humans’ desire to play golf.(在我看来,野猪并没有入侵这个球场;他们正在收回它。 故选A项。 30. 根据第四段的最后两句“Today, almost 250 Mexican wolves are believed to be in the wild, and every year, humans illegally kill one out of ten. The wolf recovery effort is necessary, but it’s extremely difficult because we humans keep getting in the way.(今天,大约有250只墨西哥狼被认为生活在野外,每年,人类非法杀死十分之一的狼。 根据最后一段的句子“Therefore, I think that it must be a good sign that my local news now regularly covers the challenges of coexistence and possible solutions to our problems. 根据第一段中的“But now evidence pats the spotlight on a much earlier phase — the period that separates asleep and wakefulness. In a study by MIT, researchers show that people who take brief naps (小睡) that bring about the beginning of sleep score higher on several measures of creativity than three who undertake the tasks after staying awake.(但现在,证据将焦点投向了一个更早的阶段——介于睡眠和清醒之间的时期。 故选A项。 33. 根据第二段“The findings suggest researchers could even exercise some measure of control over the dreaming process by directing people's dreams toward a specific topic(这项研究结果表明,研究人员甚至可以通过引导人们的梦境向特定主题发展,来对做梦过程进行一定程度的控制)”可知,研究结果表明,研究人员甚至可以通过将人们的梦境引向特定主题来对做梦过程进行某种程度的控制。 根据划线词下文“by monitoring one's muscle tone, skin conductance and heart rate through contacts on the wrist and hand. It communicates with an app that issues voice prompts (提示) for dreams and records dream reports(通过手腕和手部的触点来监测一个人的肌肉紧张度、皮肤电导率和心率。 根据第四段“More than one famous thinker has capitalized on the phase called non-rapid eye movement sleep stage 1, or N1, illustrating the point about generating creative insights. The painter Salvador Dalí would deliberately nap, holding a set of keys above a metal plate, when thinking over an idea for a painting. As he nodded off, he'd drop the keys, which would hit the plate and wake him up, and he'd hold onto the image from his dream. Thomas Alva Edison is said to have used a similar technique with metal balls to gain insights 36.由下文“the more likely it is that you will get tasty things out of it. (你就越有可能从中得到美味的食物)”可知,本句用“the+比较级,the+比较级”结构,故C选项“The easier it is for you to get into the garden (你越容易进入花园)”能引起下文,符合题意。故选C。 37.由下文“The most important recommendation is start with what you like to eat. This may go without saying, but I have seen first-year gardens that don’t reflect the eating habits of their growers. One of the easiest and most rewarding and popular kitchen gardens is a simple salad garden. It can produce multiple harvests in most parts of the country. 故选A。 38.由上文“Planting a garden: where, when and how. Make a garden plan of what will be planted, where, when and how. 可知,熟悉各种作物才能做到这一点,故F选项“To do this, you need to get familiar with all kinds of crops (要做到这一点,你需要熟悉各种作物)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选F。 39.由上文“When and how much to water your garden. Vegetables are made mostly of water. 40.由上文“Garden maintenance: keep an eye on it. Sun and rain willing, fast growers such as radishes (萝卜) and salad greens will begin to produce crops as early as 20 to 30 days after planting. Check on them regularly so you get to harvest them before someone else does. 可知,本空要说跟“菜园维护”有关的话题,故G选项“Besides, protective barriers and organic products can prevent pests and diseases (此外,防护屏障和有机产品可以预防病虫害)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选G。 41.C 42.B 43.D 44.C 45.B 46.A 47.C 48.B 49.D 50.D 51.A 52.A 53.C 54.D 55.B 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。 A. tried尝试;B. regretted后悔;C. wanted想要;D. refused拒绝。根据上文“Three years ago, Mollie decided to do something she had always”指三年前,莫莉决定做一件她一直想做的事,want to do sth. A. idea想法;B. courage勇气;C. ability能力;D. patience耐心。根据后文“her classes with my encouragement”可知,是作者的鼓励让她去上课,说明缺乏勇气。故选B。 43. A. renewed重新开始;B. taught教;C. improved改善;D. began开始。根据后文“Every Tuesday night for two years, she was to learn to dance.(两年来,每周二晚上,她都要学跳舞)”可知,莫莉开始上舞蹈课。故选D。 44. 根据上文“In the beginning of her eighty-first year”提到她现在81岁了,所以此处强调班上没有人比她年级更大,应用older。故选C。 45. A. dangerous危险的;B. difficult困难的;C. classic经典的;D. amazing惊人的。根据后文“Sometimes I think I will never learn ballet.(有时我想我永远也学不会芭蕾舞了)”可知,她学习遇到了困难,故选B。 46. A. suffered遭受,痛苦;B. survived幸存;C. cried哭泣;D. progressed进步。根据上文“Sometimes I think I will never learn ballet.(有时我想我永远也学不会芭蕾舞了)”可知,莫莉学习舞蹈很痛苦,故选A。 47. A. caution谨慎;B. doubt怀疑;C. pride骄傲;D. surprise惊讶。结合上文“we could see her excitement and”指学习自己痴迷的东西,莫莉充满了兴奋和骄傲。故选C。 48. A. fame名誉;B. success成功;C. fortune运气;D. honor荣誉。根据后文“she looked at all of us, smiling, and the audience stood and applauded.” A. competed竞争;B. performed表现;C. discussed讨论;D. gathered聚集。根据后文“at a local theater to enjoy Mollie’s ballet performance”指他们聚在当地一家剧院欣赏莫莉的芭蕾舞表演。故选D。 50. A. directly直接地;B. quickly快速地;C. accidentally意外地;D. perfectly完美地。 A. realized意识到;B. forgot忘记;C. hated讨厌;D. answered回答。根据后文“all the things that Mollie had taught me”指作者意识到莫莉教会了自己一些东西。故选A。 52. A. devotion奉献;B. recovery恢复;C. reunion团聚;D. invention发明。 故选A。 53. A. start开始;B. escape逃走;C. fail失败;D. forget忘记。根据上文“you have to stumble”以及后文“to try again, to win”指实现你的信仰,你必须绊倒,失败,再试一次,才能胜利。故选C。 54. A. desires渴望;B. needs需要;C. duties义务;D. fears恐惧。根据上文“ Sometimes I think I will never learn ballet.” A. open打开;B. follow跟随;C. clean清理;D. break打破。 B。 56.shortened 57.and 58.stretches 59.linking 60.a 61.central 62.growth 63.was announced 64.on/in 65.its 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 之间”用between...and...。故填and。 58. 故填was announced。 64. 名录上”用on/in...list。故填on/in。 65. 故填its。 66.Dear Eric, I’m sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time with your parents lately. But when he heard others whispering about his mum’s ugly face, embarrassment came over him. With anger written all on his face, he pushed his mum hard out of the hall. Seeing Tom’s mum leave with deep sorrow, his father followed her out. Hesitating for a moment, Tom’s father told him everything that happened many years ago. B Hem an Bekele is not your typical high school student.Rather than spending his free time playing video games or staring at his phone, this 14 year-old from Fairfax, Virginia was calling professors and conducting experiments, all to create a soap that could treat skin cancer, and to make it affordable for everyone who needs it.His work won him the grand prize in this year’s 3M Young Scientist’s Challenge, a competition that encourages kids to think of unique ways to solve everyday problems. Growing up in Ethiopia, Bekele found in pity that people working outside were likely to end up getting skin cancer.Skin cancer did have cures and was treatable in most cases. However, the average price of skin cancer treatment globally was almost $40,000.Those shocking statistics really inspired him to create a more accessible solution. He started doing experiments and working on different things, and that turned into his bar of soap as a project. A lot of his research and development started in his family’s kitchen and in his basement. But as he reached the final of the competition, he realized that he did need to do a little bit more outside of just his house. So he reached out to people at University of Virginia and people at Georgetown, and he got a lot of assistance. The number one person would be Deborah Isabelle, who helped him organize and structure his ideas during the finalist competition.Bekele said that he definitely couldn’t have done that all by himself. Bekele’s award-winning soap is a compound based bar of soap and it’s charged with different cancer fighting chemicals. The color of the soap is a bit of a dark type of white and it has a rough surface, which could be a good exfoliant(去角质剂).It does have a strong medicine smell and feel a bit stickier. The whole point of it is that even once you wash off the soaps, the medicinal parts will stay on your skin.It can activate the body’s immune cells to defend cancer. Bekele won 25,000 prize money and he was going to use it to continue research. He said, “I still need a lot of resources to be able to conduct this research, so this money will definitely help me achieve it.” 24.Why did Heman Bekele start working on creating the soap? A.Because he thought it was a fun project. B.Because he wanted to win a science competition. C.Because he found skin cancer treatment unaffordable. D.Because he wanted to create a unique soap for everyone. 25.What can we learn from Bekele’s preparations for the final? A.Well begun is half done. B.Learn humbly, ask willingly. C.Actions speak louder than words. D.Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. 26.What is paragraph 4 of the text mainly about? A.What features the soap has. B.How the soap is used. C.What chemicals the soap contains. D.How the soap is produced. 27.Which words can be used to describe Bekele according to the passage? A.Patient and talented. B.Friendly and ambitious. C.Cautious and generous. D.Caring and devoted. C I always listen to my local public radio station while I’m driving. My focus often changes as I stare out at the road ahead. But I became fully attentive on a recent morning once I realized the entire newscast was dedicated to local wildlife. There was something about the pack of some 30 to 50 javelinas (野猪) that ruined a golf course near Sedona, Arizona, followed by talk of the recent sighting of a jaguar (美洲虎), a species that ranged across Arizona and Sonora, Mexico, until construction of the border wall blocked the way. Finally, there was an update on Mexican wolf reintroduction efforts in New Mexico and Arizona. The results were mixed: Nine of the wolves had died or been killed recently. As I sat in my car, listening to the news, I felt helpless, even mournful. What would it take for most of us to understand that the javelinas’ behavior on that heavily irrigated golf course in the desert was a sign that maybe the course shouldn’t be in the desert to begin with? The way I saw it, the javelinas weren’t invading (入侵) the site; they were reclaiming it. After all, the javelinas’ needs—for food and space—are more basic than a few privileged humans’ desire to play golf. As for the Arizona Mexican wolf pup reintroduction effort that I heard about in the news, for the past 25 years, scientists have been working hard to restore the native wolf population, and yet are unable to remove its greatest threat. Today, almost 250 Mexican wolves are believed to be in the wild, and every year, humans illegally kill one out of ten. The wolf recovery effort is necessary, but it’s extremely difficult because we humans keep getting in the way. I need to tackle my helplessness, because helplessness leads to no longer wanting to take care of what matters most. Therefore, I think that it must be a good sign that my local news now regularly covers the challenges of coexistence and possible solutions to our problems. That’s progress and fuels my hope. 28.What is the morning news about? A.Dangers of local wildlife. B.Efforts to reintroduce wildlife. C.Issues of human-wildlife coexistence. D.Distribution of wildlife around the world. 29.Why did the javelinas destroy the golf course according to the author? A.To meet basic needs. B.To protect the desert. C.To oppose golf playing. D.To attack human beings. 30.What do we know about the Mexican wolves? A.They are bound to go extinct. B.Humans threaten their survival. C.Their number has greatly increased. D.10% of them have been reintroduced. 31.What is the author’s attitude to the challenges mentioned in the last paragraph? A.Unclear. B.Negative. C.Optimistic. D.Indifferent. D For decades sleep scientists have thought over the link between dreaming and creative inspiration. They have long thought the insight came from the stage of rapid eye movement sleep, which is rich with dreams and begins around 90 minutes after one falling asleep. But new evidence puts the spotlight on a much earlier phase — the period that separates sleep and wakefulness. In a study by MIT, researchers show that people who take brief naps (小睡) that bring about the beginning of sleep score higher on several measures of creativity than those who undertake the tasks after staying awake. The findings suggest researchers could even exercise some measure of control over the dreaming process by directing people's dreams toward a specific topic. The more frequently people dreamed about that, the more creative they were on tasks related to it. “We can come to the conclusion that dreaming about a topic enhances your subsequent creativity on it,” says Robert Stickgold, a member of the study team. The experiment took advantage of a glovelike sleep detector, which charts sleep by monitoring one's muscle tone, skin conductance and heart rate through contacts on the wrist and hand. It communicates with an app that issues voice prompts (提示) for dreams and records dream reports. More than one famous thinker has capitalized on the phase called non-rapid eye movement sleep stage 1,or N1, illustrating the point about generating creative insights. The painter Salvador Dalí would deliberately nap, holding a set of keys above a metal plate, when thinking over an idea for a painting. As he nodded off, he'd drop the keys, which would hit the plate and wake him up, and he'd hold onto the image from his dream. Thomas Alva Edison is said to have used a similar technique with metal balls to gain insights. “It's exciting because,  in principle, people could use the technology themselves to develop creativity,” says Jonathan Schooler, a professor of psychological and brain sciences at the University of California. There seems to be no shortage of folks coming to try it. “So many different kinds of people have visited, knocking on the lab door and asking to have dreams,” co-lead investigator Haar Horowitz says. 32.Which phase boosts creative ideas according to the study? A.The initial sleep stage. B.The middle of the sleep cycle. C.The wakefulness after sleep. D.The rapid eye movement sleep stage. 33.What do the findings mentioned in paragraph 2 show? A.Physical changes reflect the sleep phase. B.Dream contents re late to real life. C.Creativity levels vary with the nap length. D.The theme of the dream can be guided. 34.What does the underlined word “charts” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Encourages. B.Improves. C.Tracks. Tom was 11 years old. He was tall, dark and handsome and had a lot of dreams. He had always dreamt of living in a city. He was always his dad’s charm, as he was not quite happy to spend time with his mom. All he could remember about his mom was her scars, red and white scars on her face, neck and hands. He always felt unpleasant to see his mom’s face. But what he did not know was that his mom scratched her beauty to save him from a fire when he was one year old. Not wanting to burden him with it, Tom’s parents kept it a secret. His mom Maria used to drop him to school and pick him up every day. He felt awkward to see his mom with that scarred face standing in front of the school gate. As he was laughing and chatting with his fellow schoolmates, all of them became silent and started staring at the gate. So, Tom turned towards the gate with a lot of curiosity. He froze when seeing his mom, face covered with a piece of cloth. Tom felt ashamed and rushed out of the school with lots of anger. With days passing by, Tom started to dislike his mom more. He did not like to get picked up or dropped by his mom. He felt that she was ugly and so abnormal. As he grew old, he stopped going out with her to the market or anywhere outside. Kamala tried her best to make her son happy, got him everything that he wanted and gave him his space. She understood what her son was going through and felt pity for herself and sad for her son, as she was helpless. When Tom turned 16, he was sent to a city high school 80 kilometers away from his coastal village. The very thought of not being with his ugly mother made him very happy.
