This morning we're talking to carl smith, whose made some changes to her lifestyle. Carla, the first thing you did was change the way you worked. why? I used to have a busy job. IT was interesting. So I never got stressed or needed time off like some of my colleagues who became ill. I traveled all over the world. Then suddenly I realized I was living in hotels. And I thought, you know what? I like to spend more time in my own house. And now you run your own business. yes. And I choose which hours I work. Then I am into yoga because IT relaxes my body in mind. I've never really enjoyed team sports or athletics. You're still a busy person. Do you have any time saving advice? Many people think checking emails or messages on the bus to work or school and making a list of things to do can save time. But the thing that works well for me is having lots of clothes which are similar, so you don't have to think about what to put on in the morning. Ladies and gentlemen, your attention, please. I'll recommend two hotels to the passengers who are going to london on this flight. The swan hotel is a pretty small hotel. The good thing about this is that it's not far from the airport, which is handy when you're traveling abroad. Of course, that means it's not ideal for tourists who want to see a film or enjoy a concert. All thirty five rooms are double rooms, though the hotel charges are big fee. All the rooms are very comfortable. Each room has AT, V and a safety box for keeping your valuables in. Every room has a broadband internet connection, although you have to pay a small charge for that. I suppose it's a typical business traveler's hotel, but IT is also OK. If you are just staying overnight to take an early flight, you can book rooms online. All major credit cards are accepted, you can pay in cash or by check to the backpacker. Hotel is pretty near the center of london. They say there are only ten minutes walk from the underground station, so you can take the underground wenner flight lands, although it'll take more than an hour to get there. They've got sixty rooms. They don't have an internet connection in each room, but they have a little room, which they call their business centre. IT has a fax machine and an internet connection that's pretty good for a cheap hotel. They take cash only. Ladies and gentlemen, your attention, please. B Nathan Smith is captain of Port Vale FC, and Tom Conlon has just signed for Oldham Athletic of the National League. These two football players, both 27, feel they have a responsibility to pass on lessons they learnt to the next generation. They founded the Pro Level coaching school in 2021, offering free weekly classes at Keele University, in Staffordshire. To keep the academy run well, they then launched a charity to help children from all backgrounds and abilities get the most from the sport. They see the charity as an “antidote” to the football system, which has been heavily criticised for putting too much pressure on youngsters before many of them are thrown away. Although Nathan and Tom work with the abandoned players, trying to rebuild their confidence and love of the game, they stress that ability is not a criterion for attending the training. They will provide some vital life lessons along the way, helping young people to overcome their shyness and become better communicators, and also support young players who have been rejected by professional clubs at an early age and feel football has little to offer them. Tom said, “The sort of coaching shouldn’t just be for those who long to be the stars of the future-all children can benefit from the tactical (战术的), fitness and mentality work we do. Childhood has become increasingly challenging. We are looking to provide a place for all children to feel proud of who they are.” “I want to offer them the same experience that’s helped shape the person I am now. And we see the children that we are coaching overcome their shyness and lack of confidence. You can see them growing as young people, developing relationship, becoming better communicators and socializing with others, “added Nathan. Emily Cherry, director of the charity, said, “I’ve seen the boys coach and the difference it makes to the children. The kids benefit massively, and not just in terms of soccer skills.” 24. Why did Tom Conlon and Nathan Smith found the coaching school? A. To raise money for children. B. To hunt for professional coaches. C. To train excellent football players. D. To transform children through football. 25. Which is the closest in meaning to “antidote” in paragraph 2? A. Solution. B. Addition. C. Organisation. D. Shelter 26. What does children need most according to the text? A. Soccer skills. B. Free coaching C. Life skills. D. Physical fitness. 27. What does Emily Cherry think of the coaching school? A. It becomes a hit. B. It needs to be improved. C. It makes much profit. D. It makes much difference. 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. C 27. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了为了把自己学到的经验传授给下一代,同时给孩子们带来良好影响,汤姆·康伦和内森·史密斯成立教练学校,每周提供免费课程。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“They founded the Pro Level coaching school in 2021, offering free weekly classes at Keele University, in Staffordshire. To keep the academy run well, they then launched a charity to help children from all backgrounds and abilities get the most from the sport.(他们于2021年在斯塔福德郡的基尔大学创办了专业级别的教练学校,每周提供免费课程。为了保持学校的良好运作,他们发起了一个慈善机构,帮助不同背景和能力的孩子们从这项运动中获得最大的收获)”可知,汤姆·康伦和内森·史密斯成立教练学校是为了通过足球改变孩子。故选D。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“which has been heavily criticised for putting too much pressure on youngsters before many of them are thrown away”可知,which指代上文the football system,即足球系统因在许多年轻人被抛弃之前给他们施加了太多压力而受到严厉批评,所以这个慈善机构成了足球系统问题的一个“解决方案”。故划线词意思是“解决方案”。故选A。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Although Nathan and Tom work with the abandoned players, trying to rebuild their confidence and love of the game, they stress that ability is not a criterion for attending the training.(虽然内森和汤姆与被遗弃的球员一起工作,试图重建他们的信心和对比赛的热爱,但他们强调能力不是参加训练的标准)”以及倒数第二段“I want to offer them the same experience that’s helped shape the person I am now. And we see the children that we are coaching overcome their shyness and lack of confidence. You can see them growing as young people, developing relationship, becoming better communicators and socializing with others(我想给他们提供同样的经历,帮助塑造了现在的我。我们看到我们所辅导的孩子克服了羞怯和缺乏自信。你可以看到他们成长为年轻人,发展人际关系,成为更好的沟通者和社交者)”可知,孩子们最需要生活技能。故选C。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Emily Cherry, director of the charity, said, “I’ve seen the boys coach and the difference it makes to the children. The kids benefit massively, and not just in terms of soccer skills.”(该慈善机构的负责人艾米丽·切里说:“我看到了男孩们的教练,这对孩子们产生了很大的影响。孩子们受益匪浅,而且不仅仅是在足球技能方面。”)”可知,艾米丽·切里认为教练学校影响很大。故选D。 C Humans and horses have enjoyed strong working relationships for nearly 10,000 years. Can these age-old relationships teach us something about building robots? Researchers at the University of Florida carried out research and said yes. “As we work to improve how humans communicate with robots, I thought why not learn from our partnership with horses to help solve the problem of natural interaction between humans and robots?” said Eakta Jain, an associate professor of computer and information science and engineering. Looking at our history with animals to help shape our future with robots is nothing new. But Jain and her colleagues are the first to do on-the-ground field studies with horses. Jain first reached out to Joel McQuagge who managed the UF Horse Teaching Unit. He provided Jain with full access, so Jain spent months observing classes. She interviewed and observed horse experts, including horse trainers and owners. Jain’s notes resulted in findings and design ideas that can be applied by robot designers. “Some of the findings are easy to visualize, while others are not very specific,” Jain said. “For example, we learned that a horse speaks with its body. You can see its ears pointing to where something caught its attention. We could build similar types of expressions without speech in our robots, like ears that point to something visual in the car when there’s a person walking on that side of the street.” A groundbreaking finding is the sense of respect. When a trainer works with a horse, he looks for signs of respect from the horse for its human partner. “We don’t typically think about respect in the situation of human-robot interaction,” Jain says. “We can design behaviors similar to what the horse uses. Maybe that will make humans more willing to work with the robot.” 28. What is Jain’s basic idea for the research? A. Robots can have an influence on horse training. B. Humans can communicate with horses better. C. Robots may bring more changes to humans. D. Human-horse relationships may help improve robots. 29. How did Jain carry out her research? A. She interviewed engineers and robot designers. B. She worked with horse experts for observations. C. She discussed her design with robot and horse experts. D. She checked historical records of human-horse partnerships. 30. What lesson can robot designers draw from Jain’s findings? A. Body language can be designed into robots. B. Robots may better understand non-speech instructions. C. Humans should learn to show respect for robots. D. Robots can perform better than horses in locating things. 31. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text? A. How Can We Get on Well with Robots? B. Could Robots Replace Horses in the Future? C. Robots Make Efforts to Learn from Horses D. Learn from Horses, Build Better Robots 【答案】28. D 29. B 30. A 31. Half the world is expected to be overweight by 2035. In addition to overeating and lack of exercise, the scientific community is exploring another factor that may contribute—eating products packaged in plastic. For a study published last year, researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology set out to determine what chemical compounds (化合物) exist in 34 common plastic items that touch things we eat, such as yogurt cups, juice bottles, candy packages, and plastic wrap used for produce and cheese, as well as items often found in kitchen. Of the 55,000 chemicals the researchers found in these items, only 629 were identifiable, which influence our bodies’ ability to regulate weight, troubling health effects. “We’re quite certain that there are many chemicals in plastic products that impact metabolism (新陈代谢), but we just couldn’t identify all of them,” Martin Wagner, a study co-author said. Strikingly, Wagner and his colleagues found that a third of all the common products they tested contain chemicals that cause the adipogenic (生脂的) process. Although we are exposed to them daily, most of these mystery chemicals are unknown, unstudied and unregulated. For years, experts have been warning against plastic food containers, particularly for hot or oily foods which may make the plastics unstable and increase the risk of chemical leaching (渗出). As one of them, Wagner argues that we need to start reducing our exposure to plastic without waiting for more slow-moving research to prove that the plastics in our food, products, blood and organs are risk factors for bad health outcomes. Really, reducing our plastic exposure should be our overall goal. When we think about cutting junk out of our diets, the criminals shouldn’t just be candy and soda—plastic needs to go, too. 32. What newly-found factor may cause overweight? A. Eating too much. B. Lack of exercise. C. Unhealthy eating habits. D. Food’s plastic packaging. 33. What is the finding of the study published last year? A. Most products tested contain adipogenic chemicals. B. Metabolism is affected by chemicals in plastic products. C. The influence of plastic products on our health is unknown. D. Only 629 chemicals in plastic products regulate people ‘s weight. 34. What does Wagner suggest we do? A. Stop eating foods packaged in plastic. B. Avoid using plastic products for hot or oily foods. C. Reduce our exposure to plastic as much as possible. D. Wait for more research to prove the risks of plastics. 35. What is the passage mainly about? A. Keeping off extra pounds is urgent. B. It’s high time to stop using plastic packaging. C. Chemicals in plastic packaging may lead to overweight. D. Plastic food packaging proves to contain harmful chemicals. 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. C 35. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了研究表明,塑料包装中的化学物质可能导致人们超重。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“In addition to overeating and lack of exercise, the scientific community is exploring another factor that may contribute—eating products packaged in plastic.(除了暴饮暴食和缺乏运动之外,科学界正在探索另一个可能的因素——食用塑料包装的产品)”可知,食品塑料包装是导致超重的一个新发现的因素,故选D。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“We’re quite certain that there are many chemicals in plastic products that impact metabolism (新陈代谢), but we just couldn’t identify all of them,(我们非常确定塑料产品中存在许多影响新陈代谢的化学物质,但我们无法识别所有这些化学物质)”可知,去年发表的研究结果是新陈代谢受到塑料制品中化学物质的影响。故选B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“As one of them, Wagner argues that we need to start reducing our exposure to plastic without waiting for more slow-moving research to prove that the plastics in our food, products, blood and organs are risk factors for bad health outcomes.(作为其中之一,瓦格纳认为,我们需要开始减少对塑料的接触,而不是等待更多进展缓慢的研究来证明我们的食物、产品、血液和器官中的塑料是不良健康结果的风险因素)”可知,Wagner建议我们尽可能减少我们与塑料的接触。故选C。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“When it comes to keeping off extra pounds, watching what we eat may not be enough—we have to keep an eye on our food’s packaging, too. Half the world is expected to be overweight by 2035. In addition to overeating and lack of exercise, the scientific community is exploring another factor that may contribute—eating products packaged in plastic.(当谈到防止体重增加时,仅仅关注我们吃的东西可能还不够——我们还必须关注食物的包装。预计到2035年,世界上一半的人将超重。除了暴饮暴食和缺乏锻炼之外,科学界正在探索另一个可能的因素——食用塑料包装的产品)”可知,文章主要介绍了塑料包装中的化学物质可能导致人们超重。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选山可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Mental health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, yet it is often ignored in our fast- paced society. ____36____ A well-cared and healthy mind leads to improved emotions, better relationships, and a more positive outlook on life. ____37____ When we are stressed or upset, it is our mind’s way of reacting to negative stimuli(刺激). His father was short and severely crippled (跛腿的). When the father and the son walked along the street together, the father’s hand was on David’s arm for balance, which attracted a lot of unwanted attention. At that moment, David always felt ashamed and wanted to run away. But the father said: “We just walk differently.” Almost every weekday David had to accompany his father to go to work. Their usual walk was to or from the subway, which was how his father got to work. It was hard for the father to walk, but he stuck to work, even if he was sick or the weather was bad. He never missed a day. When snow or ice was on the ground, it was impossible for him to walk, even with others’ help. At such times David would pull him through the streets on a child’s sleigh (雪橇) to the subway entrance. Once there, the father would cling to (抓住) the handrail until he reached the lower steps where the warmer tunnel air kept ice-free. Fortunately, the subway station was the basement of his office building. After arriving at his office, he would not have to go outside again until David met him to go home. However, he had never complained, instead, he always said: “There is always a way to arrive.” One Friday, when they walked back home as usual, David looked upset. His father asked the boy whether he met something terrible. David lowered his head and said nothing. “My dear, maybe I can give you a hand.” said the father. “No. You cannot.” the boy sobbed. Then the two men went on walking silently. After getting home, the father received a call from David’s teacher. He was informed there would be a parent-child football game next Friday on the school playground, and he was expected to take part. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: After saying thanks to the teacher, the father went to the sobbing David. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: David watched as his father was standing on the playground with other parents. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】(One possible version) After saying thanks to the teacher, the father went to the sobbing David. Knowing why the boy was unhappy, the father tried to hug him. However, the boy pushed him wildly. “David, I have told you ‘we just walk differently’”, said the father. Tom refused to answer and went on sobbing. What’s worse, the boy couldn’t sleep the whole night, he could even imagine how his classmates and their parents laughed at his father on the playground. C Humans and horses have enjoyed strong working relationships for nearly 10,000 years. Jain first reached out to Joel McQuagge, who managed the UF Horse Teaching Unit. Learn from Horses, Build Better Robots D When it comes to keeping off extra pounds, watching what we eat may not be enough—we have to keep an eye on our food’s packaging, too. Half the world is expected to be overweight by 2035. In addition to overeating and lack of exercise, the scientific community is exploring another factor that may contribute—eating products packaged in plastic. For a study published last year researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology set out to determine what chemical compounds (化合物) exist in 34 common plastic items that touch things we eat, such as yogurt cups, juice bottles, candy packages, and plastic wrap used for produce and cheese, as well as items often found in kitchen. A Most products tested contain adipogenic chemicals. B Metabolism is affected by chemicals in plastic products. D Wait for more research to prove the risks of plastics. 35. What is the passage mainly about? A. Keeping off extra pounds is urgent. B. It’s high time to stop using plastic packaging. C. Chemicals in plastic packaging may lead to overweight. D. Plastic food packaging proves to contain harmful chemicals. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选山可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Mental health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, yet it is often ignored in our fast- paced society. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
