Making a living by running a taxi is to “race” against time. So taxi drivers hardly have enough time to find a canteen (食堂) and enjoy a meal. Luckily, for taxi drivers in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, the “Taxi Canteen” helps them.
The “Taxi Canteen” is at Hecheng Road, Yinzhou District in Ningbo. It is open for 24 hours for taxi drivers a day. At the canteen, customers (顾客) serve meals by them selves, and they can even pay by themselves instead of asking for bills (账单). From entering to leaving, the time for each customer is about 15 minutes.
Sun Yihui is the canteen’s owner. In the past 28 years, he has been doing work for taxis. He worked as a taxi driver for 18 years and has been running the “Taxi Canteen” for 10 years. He started the canteen in 2015 in the hope of helping taxi drivers.
“Most taxi drivers don’t have enough time to have meals. And when business (生意) is not well, many drivers just eat bread to save time,” Sun says.
