Sometimes she knitted (编织) hats for babies, and at other times, she cooked chicken soup for sick neighbors. Therefore, I wasn’t surprised when one evening my mother announced she had undertaken a new project. “I am going to telephone seniors,” said my mother. “Every night? But you don’t even know these people.” “It doesn’t matter,” she said, “What’s important is that I listen.” I was sixteen years old and couldn’t understand why my mother was willing to spend her evenings talking to strangers. She had friends and my two older sisters to call if she felt lonely. “They will talk your ear off. Some people didn’t even stop to catch breath.” I said. My attitude didn’t stop my mother’s enthusiasm for the project. That evening, she settled on the sofa and dialed. When she finished the call, I said, “Why do you care whether she had cookies or rice pudding for dessert? ” My mother grasped one of my hands and said in a proud tune, “I’m the only person she talked to today.” It took me more than thirty years to fully understand the meaning of that statement. Now, as my mother is near eighty, I find myself thinking about those nightly calls she used to make. I am often the only person who telephones my mother, and sometimes I’m the only person she speaks to all day. I ask her what she cooked for dinner, but mostly I just listen as she describes a walk she took, or how her dog Lucky stole foods from the refrigerator. I realize that my mother’s calls were life lines that ensured housebound seniors remained connected to the world. Without her, their world would have been empty. 4. What is the mother’s purpose of calling the seniors? A. To improve their living conditions. B. To inquire their eating habits. C. To ease their loneliness. D. To teach them surviving skills. 5. What does the underlined part in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Speak all the time. B. Blame others’ behaviours. C. Miss important information. D. Hurt your hearing. 6. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. The author started to telephone seniors as her mother. B. The author realized the value of her mother’s efforts. C. The author’s mother preferred to live alone. D. The author’s mother remained connected to the world. 7. What is the suitable title for the passage? A. Seniors’ comfort B. Mother’s evenings C. Aging: my concern D. Nightly calls, lifeline calls C Going against the tide of flocking to well-known tourist destinations on vacation a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known tourist attractions. Reverse tourism (逆向旅游)has appeared as a new trend among young holidaymakers in China. According to data from an online travel agency, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year-on-year. Bookings for four-star or five-star hotels in less-traveled places all increased at least 10 times. Some lesser-known scenic spots posted double-digit growth during the holiday. Baimaiquan Park in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, received 52,100 visits in the seven days, up 15.78 percent year-over-year. Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular destinations. In addition, lesser-known attractions are not as “commercial” as developed ones and are able to offer more actual experiences and natural encounters. Essentially speaking, total relaxation is becoming a real expectation for many people when they travel. Changes in demand may be the fundamental reason for the popularity of reverse tourism. COVID-19 is another key factor fueling reverse tourism. As precautionary measures continue, traveling has an unpredictable quality. Travelers have thus become more cautious and tend to choose local attractions or places with fewer tourists. “The rise of reverse tourism is not a bad thing,” said Zhengzhou Daily. It means that vacationers now have more options, which brings more possibilities to the tourism market. More importantly, it noted, the trend is set to force popular destinations to improve themselves instead of resting on their past honor. Jiang Han, a senior researcher, said that reverse tourism will become one of the future directions for the market. To give a real boost to the tourism market, Jiang suggested that more efforts be made to tap the potential of underrated (被低估了的), lesser-known destinations. It is necessary to dig deeper into the local customs and highlight the local characteristics to improve the quality of local tourism. 8. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The popularity of travel agency in China. B. The contributions of tourism to the economy. C. The high income of hotels during holidays. D. The increasing trend of reverse tourism in China. 9 What may be the root cause of the rise of reverse tourism? A. The effect of COVID-19. B. Holidaymakers’ changing needs for travel. C. No improvements in famous spots. D. The cheaper prices of the less-traveled places. 10. What does Zhengzhou Daily think of reverse tourism? A It will drop with the recovery of economy. B. It benefits both tourists and the tourism market. C. It is helpful to spread local culture to tourists. D. It stops the development of the famous resorts. 11. What is Jiang Han’s advice on developing the tourism market? A. Finding the potential and features of less-traveled attractions. B. Improving the management of the local tourism. C. Upgrading the facilities in tourist areas. D. Highlighting the local tourism through media. D Salvador Dali had a strange way of refreshing his mind — “slumber (睡眠) with a key”. In a book, he described how it worked. “You were to grasp a heavy key, hanging above a plate.” Then, he continued, “As you were progressively asleep, the key would slip from your fingers and fall on the plate, awakening you.” He claimed the brief moment spent between wake and sleep would refresh your physical and mental being. Now Dali’s mysterious-sounding method has been, to some degree, proven by science — napping with an object in hand might help to tap into this creative sweet spot. Delphine Oudiette is a sleep researcher at the Paris Brain Institute. She was curious to find out why — so she and her colleagues asked 103 volunteers to complete a series of math problems. Unknown to the participants, there was a quick shortcut to solve all the problems. ( Sixteen of the volunteers figured that out and were excluded from the rest of the study. ) The volunteers who didn’t determine the secret were asked to emulate (模仿) Dali’s method — but grasping a plastic bottle with their fingertips rather than a key. Some took a Dali-style micro nap (小睡), some napped longer and others didn’t nap at all. After the nap, the researchers asked all the volunteers to do hundreds more of these math problems. And they found that volunteers who took micro naps were nearly three times as likely to figure out the problem-solving trick, compared to those who didn’t nap at all. Oudiette said, “We think that’s maybe in this short period, you have the best of the two worlds: sleep and wake. So you lose control of your thoughts and have loose associations, which could be helpful for creativity. But at the same time, you still keep some awareness that might help you to recognize when you have a great idea. Those who slept for longer periods actually did worse than both those who briefly slept and those who stayed awake. The next step of my work will involve repeating the experiment with other creative tasks to know more about the mechanism — and maybe to teach people to reach this creative sweet spot.” 12. Why did Dali use a heavy key and a plate? A. The key and the plate could help him sleep faster. B. The key and the plate were easy to find in his house. C. The plate could prevent the key slipping onto the floor. D. The key would make a loud noise when hitting the plate. 13. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. Dali’s method. B. Oudiette’s study. C. The quick shortcut. D. The maths problem. 14. Which is a fact in Oudiette’s study? A. All the participants didn’t nap in the process. B. Only 16 participants worked out the math problems. C. 87 volunteers tried sleeping with a key in their hands. D. Those who napped were asked not to do the math problems. 15. What can be inferred from Oudiette’s words? A. Sleep and wake have loose associations. B. People have relaxed minds when sleeping. C. Those staying awake did worst in the study. D. She has fortunately found out the root cause. I believe in daydreaming now and then—especially when I’m hiking. Nightly calls, lifeline calls 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段中““It doesn’t matter,” she said, “What’s important is that I listen.”(她说道:“没关系,重要的是我在听”)”和最后一段的“I realize that my mother’s calls were life lines that ensured housebound seniors remained connected to the world. Without her, their world would have been empty.(我意识到,妈妈的电话是生命线,确保居家老人与世界保持联系。没有她,他们的世界将是空虚的)”可知,妈妈给老人打电话,倾听他们,让那些居家老人和世界保持联系,丰富了他们的空虚生活。由此可推测,妈妈给老人打电话的目的是缓解他们的孤独感。故选C。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“Some people didn’t even stop to catch breath.(有些人甚至都不会停下来喘口气)”可知,有些人会一直不停地说话,故划线短语“talk your ear off”的意思是“一直讲话”。故选A。 根据最后一段中的“I realize that my mother’s calls were life lines that ensured housebound seniors remained connected to the world. Without her, their world would have been empty.(我意识到,妈妈的电话是生命线,确保居家老人与世界保持联系。没有她,他们的世界将是空虚的)”可知,后来,作者意识到了妈妈的电话对居家老人的意义,由此可推测,作者最终意识到了妈妈的努力是有价值的。故选B。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段的“It took me more than thirty years to fully understand the meaning of that statement. Now, as my mother is near eighty, I find myself thinking about those nightly calls she used to make.(我花了三十多年的时间才完全理解这句话的含义。如今,我的妈妈年近八十,我发现自己想起了她过去每晚打的那些电话)”和“I realize that my mother’s calls were life lines that ensured housebound seniors remained connected to the world. Without her, their world would have been empty.(我意识到,妈妈的电话是生命线,确保居家老人与世界保持联系)”可知,文章主要讲述了妈妈晚上给陌生老人打电话,这成为了老人与世界保持联系的生命线,给他们带来了慰藉,所以“夜间通话,生命线通话”可以作为文章标题。故选D。 C Going against the tide of flocking to well-known tourist destinations on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known tourist attractions. 9. What may be the root cause of the rise of reverse tourism? A The effect of COVID-19. B. Holidaymakers’ changing needs for travel. C. No improvements in famous spots. D. The cheaper prices of the less-traveled places. 10. What does Zhengzhou Daily think of reverse tourism? A. It will drop with the recovery of economy. D 9. B 10. B 11. 根据第二段的内容“According to data from an online travel agency, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year-on-year. Bookings for four-star or five-star hotels in less-traveled places all increased at least 10 times. Some lesser-known scenic spots posted double-digit growth during the holiday. Baimaiquan Park in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, received 52,100 visits in the seven days, up 15.78 percent year-over-year.(根据一家在线旅行社的数据,假期期间,旅游较少城市的酒店预订数量同比增长了30%。在游客较少的地区,四星级或五星级酒店的预订量都增长了至少10倍。一些不太知名的景点在假期期间出现了两位数的增长。位于山东省会济南的百脉泉公园在七天内接待了5.21万人次,同比增长15.78%)”可知,第二段主要讲的是逆向旅游在中国呈上升趋势。故选D项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的句子“Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular destinations. In addition, lesser-known attractions are not as “commercial” as developed ones and are able to offer more actual experiences and natural encounters. Essentially speaking, total relaxation is becoming a real expectation for many people when they travel. Changes in demand may be the fundamental reason for the popularity of reverse tourism.(除了拥挤的人群,一些度假者选择人迹罕至的地方,以节省前往热门目的地的费用。此外,不太知名的景点不像发达景点那样“商业化”,能够提供更多的实际体验和自然邂逅。从本质上讲,完全放松正在成为许多人在旅行时的真实期望。需求的变化可能是逆向旅游流行的根本原因)”可知,度假者不断变化的旅行需求是逆向旅游兴起的根本原因。故选B项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“ ‘The rise of reverse tourism is not a bad thing,’ said Zhengzhou Daily. It means that vacationers now have more options, which brings more possibilities to the tourism market. More importantly, it noted, the trend is set to force popular destinations to improve themselves instead of resting on their past honor.(《郑州日报》称:‘逆向旅游的兴起并非坏事。’这意味着度假者现在有了更多的选择,这给旅游市场带来了更多的可能性。报告指出,更重要的是,这一趋势将迫使热门旅游目的地改善自身,而不是停留在过去的荣誉上)”可知,《郑州日报》认为逆向旅游对游客和旅游市场都有好处。故选B项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段的句子“To give a real boost to the tourism market, Jiang suggested that more efforts be made to tap the potential of underrated (被低估了的), lesser-known destinations. It is necessary to dig deeper into the local customs and highlight the local characteristics to improve the quality of local tourism.(为了真正提振旅游市场,Jiang建议要加大力度开发那些被低估的、不太为人所知的目的地的潜力。要深入挖掘地方风土人情,突出地方特色,提高地方旅游质量)”可知,Jiang Han建议发现人迹罕至的景点的潜力和特色。故选A项。 D Salvador Dali had a strange way of refreshing his mind — “slumber (睡眠) with a key”. D 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段中“As you were progressively asleep, the key would slip from your fingers and fall on the plate, awakening you.(当你逐渐入睡时,钥匙会从你的手指上滑落,掉在盘子上,把你唤醒)”可知,Dali使用一个沉重的钥匙和盘子,是因为逐渐入睡时,钥匙掉在盘子上会发出很大的响声。 根据划线词上文“Unknown to the participants, there was a quick shortcut to solve all the problems.(参与者不知道,有一个快速的捷径可以解决所有的问题)”可知,参与者不知道有一个快速的捷径可以解决所有问题,结合划线词下文“The volunteers who didn’t determine the secret were asked to emulate (模仿) Dali’s method(不了解秘密的志愿者被要求效仿Dali的方法)”可推知,“Sixteen of the volunteers figured that out”是与下文“不了解秘密的人”相反,所以本句指“有16个人解出了那个快速的捷径,被排除在剩下的研究之外”,that指代上文提到的“快速的捷径”。 根据第四段中“Some took a Dali-style micro nap (小睡), some napped longer and others didn’t nap at all.  (一些人和达利一样打了个盹,一些人打盹时间更长一些,还有一些人根本没有打盹。)”可知,并不是所有参与者在这个过程中都打盹了。故选A项。 根据最后一段中Oudiette说的话“We think that’s maybe in this short period, you have the best of the two worlds: sleep and wake. So you lose control of your thoughts and have loose associations, which could be helpful for creativity.(我们认为,也许在这个短时间内,你处于睡眠和清醒两个世界中最好的状态。因此,你会失去对自己思想的控制,可以不受束缚地联想,这可能有助于创造力)”可知,人们在睡觉的时候会大脑会处于放松状态。故选B项。 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 I believe in daydreaming now and then—especially when I’m hiking. Being in nature allows my mind to wander where it will, which often starts my creativity as a writer and musician. Now some new science suggests that daydreaming may actually make us happier and more creative. ___16___ Daydreaming may be good for creativity Mind—wandering has been associated with creativity for centuries. A study found that people who mind—wandered performed better on their task, the answer coming to them in a flash. ___17___ —it was just suddenly there. When people’s minds wander in ways that seem meaningful to them, they tend to have more creative ideas and feel more inspired at the end of the day, too. Interestingly, this is true for both writers and everyday people. ___18___ Now, findings from a 2021 study suggest that mind—wandering can actually improve your mood. In this study, the researchers found that when people’s thoughts were off—task, they generally felt more negative. But if their thoughts were free—moving. It had the opposite effect, helping people feel happier. ___19___ . If I simply put myself in a space that lets my mind move freely, I don’t get depressed. On the contrary, I’m happier because of it. Can we be better mind—wanderers? Researchers warn that mind—wandering when you need to be focused on a task could cause problems. So, let your mind wander when you’re doing tasks that don’t require focus. ___20___ . So, just having more control over when mind—wandering happens and the kind of thoughts that you have would be very useful. A. The key is that we do it the right way. B. Mind—wandering can help boost our mood. C. I find that science supports my own experience. D. Taking a break might be good for our productivity E. People didn’t even know how they got to the solution F. I hope people will explore the limits of mind—wandering G. This may help you feel better or come up with creative ideas 【答案】16. A 17. E 18. B 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Now some new science suggests that daydreaming may actually make us happier and more creative.(现在一些新的科学表明,做白日梦实际上可能让我们更快乐,更有创造力。)” 故选A项。 【17题详解】 根据上文“A study found that people who mind—wandered performed better on their task, the answer coming to them in a flash.(一项研究发现,走心的人在任务上表现得更好,答案会瞬间出现。)”和下文“it was just suddenly there.(只是突然出现。)” 本段主旨句“Now, findings from a 2021 study suggest that mind—wandering can actually improve your mood.(现在2021 年的一项研究结果表明,走神实际上可以改善你的情绪。)” 【19题详解】 根据下文“If I simply put myself in a space that lets my mind move freely, I don’t get depressed. On the contrary, I’m happier because of it.(如果我只是把自己放在一个让我的思想自由活动的空间里,我就不会感到沮丧。 相反,我因此更快乐。)” 可知,作者提到了自己的经历,因此C项“我发现科学能够支持我自己的经历”符合上下文逻辑关系。故选C项。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Researchers warn that mind—wandering when you need to be focused on a task could cause problems. So, let your mind wander when you’re doing tasks that don’t require focus.(研究人员警告说,当你需要专注于一项任务时,走神可能会导致问题。 所以,当你做不需要集中注意力的任务时,才可以走神。)”,可知,选项继续说说明走神的好处。G项说“这会让你感觉更好,想出有创意的想法”, 符合语境。故选G项。 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 Have you ever rushed to some place very important only to realize you’re on the_____21_____bus and you’ll never make it in time?
