We recently heard all about the baby names set to go extinct (as hardly any registrations have been
made for them over the last few years. The list included the likes of Carolyn,Debra.Gladys, and Meryl for girls
and Billie.Chandler,Greg.Stevie,and Walt for boys.
And while you might think this is sad,the loss out of names that were once beloved, one woman has shared
why she's relieved(宽慰的)hat her name might not be used any more.
Carolyn Creel,a designer, recently learned that her name was one of those at risk of extinction with parents.
But she said there was no anger or offence()caused by this, and instead, she felt just the opposite. She has
told of her relief at the name fading away as she'd suffered for years with people mispronouncing it and spelling it
wrong.
She said."For me it's quite a relief that Carolyn isn't going to be used anymore!Firstly.no one can pronounce
it.I'm always called Caroline and no one can spell it either.I'm not at all sad or offended, and it's just development.
I didn't like it when people got the spelling or pronunciation wrong.I also found it hard when I was learning to
spell and write as it's quite a long name!My daughter was given a shorter name for that reason!"
There were 80 names in total on the list of those set to go extinct and it was put together by the team over at
Pregnacare by Vitabiotics. To do this, they analyzed government data from 1996 to 2022 looking at the number of
babies born with each name every year and picked out those with fewer than three births. They've then used this
information to predict the names that will be the least popular in the future and are at risk of disappearing altogether.

A cup of coffee before breakfast,is considered quite normal for many people, especially those who have to
rise early for work. Some experts, however, have warned the momning habit could have an effect on your health.
Experts have warned the possible bad effects of drinking coffee on an empty stomach.Researchers from the
University of Bath have advised making sure to line your stomach before drinking caffeine, which they say could
greatly affect a person's blood sugar control.
The study.the findings of which were published in the British Journal of Nutrition, was carried out on 29
healthy male and female volunteers, all of whom took part in three different overnight experiments.
In scene one, volunteers have a sugary drink after waking up from a normal, uninterrupted sleep.
In scene two.they had the exact same drink after sleeping poorly, having been awoken every hour for five minutes
each time. When it came to the third scene.volunteers drank a strong black coffee after waking up from an
interrupted sleep and were also given a sugary drink half an hour later.Once all three experiments ended,
researchers collected blood samples from each of the 29 volunteers and examined their blood sugar level
It was found that interrupted sleep had no obvious important effect on a person's blood sugar level when
compared to uninterrupted sleep.A strong black coffee drank on an empty stomach, however, increased their blood
sugar level to the sugary drink by about 50 percent.
Although further research is needed to better understand long-term risks, the final research result of the
researchers is that drinking black coffee first thing before breakfast could actually have an important effect on a
person's blood sugar and metabolic (control after an interrupted night's sleep.
8.What do experts suggest before you drink coffee?
A.Getting enough sleep
B.Having a sugary drink.
C.Eating something.
D.Filling yourself up with food.
9.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The volunteers'sleep habits
B.The course of the experiments.

Do you sometimes pay no attention to your mom while chatting with friends? If you are a teen, that's fairly
common.Researchers already knew that younger kids'brains respond (more strongly to their mom's voice
than to strangers'.But as kids turn teens.everything changes."In teen years,we show the exact opposite of that,"
says Daniel Abrams,a scientist who led a new research
The researchers studied the brains of 7-to 16-year-old kids as they listened to things said by their mother or by
unfamiliar women The words were purely inane, such as teebudieshawlt, keebudieshawlt and peebudieshawlt. As
the kids listened to such rubbish words, certain parts of their brains became active. This was especially true in brain
regions that help them to detect rewards and pay attention That's exactly what it should be like
The areas in the adolescent brain don't stop responding to their mom. It's just that the unfamiliar voices
become more attractive and then are worthy of attention."As kids grow up,they expand (their social
connections way beyond their family.Their survival depends less and less on their mother's support. They depend
more and more on their friends and others at the same age as them,"says Leslie Seltzer,a scientist."So their brains
need to begin paying more attention to that wider world. The brain seems to adapt to new needs that come with teen
years."
"As a teen, you don't know you're doing this. You're just being you:You've got your new friends and you
want to spend time with them. You take more notice of these unfamiliar voices,"Abrams adds
So while both teens and their parents may sometimes feel sad about missed messages, that's okay."This is
how the teenager brain works, and there's a good reason for it,"Abrams says.

A.The teenagers'brain development.

Not long ago,a Halloween gathering in a narrow street turned into a deadly stampede ()with at least 155
deaths being reported.16 Of course. Here are some tips to increase the chances of survival when a
stampede happens.
●17
The key to staying safe in a crowd begins the moment you arrive at the location, says Randy I.Atlas,a safety
expert. That's to say,he advises people to take note of where the nearest exits are. It's a piece of common-sense
advice that Atlas applies not just to big events, but even when entering almost any room
●Go with the crowd
If there's a sudden panic and crowds begin to push in a certain direction,do not fight hack or push the
opposite way.18If you go against the low,you increase your chances of getting tripped and knocked
down.Another risk is,according to experts:if you fight the crowd, you will tire yourself out quickly
●Figure the“WAY"out
19Therefore.you can potentially angle (your way out of the situation, experts say.The goal,
according to writer Patrick Hutchison,is to get to"the edge of the stampede where it's less likely that you'll end up
stuck at a chokepoint,like a doorway."
●Mind the posture
In many stampede events, people die from asphyxiation-they are simply pressed to the point where they can't
breathe. But a possible way to avoid this is to place your arms in front of you.20Sometimes,the right

She said,"For me it's quite a relief that Carolyn isn't going to be used anymore!Firstly.no one can pronounce

I didn't like it when people got the spelling or pronunciation wrong.I also found it hard when I was learning to

A cup of coffee before breakfast,is considered quite normal for many people, especially those who have to
rise early for work Some experts, however, have warned the morning habit could have an effect on your health
Experts have warned the possible bad effects of drinking coffee on an empty stomach.Researchers from the
University of Bath have advised making sure to line your stomach before drinking caffeine, which they say could
greatly affect a person's blood sugar control
The study, the findings of which were published in the British Joumal of Nutrition, was carried out on 29
healthy male and female volunteers, all of whom took part in three different overnight experiments.
In scene one, volunteers have a sugary drink after waking up from a normal,uninterrupted()sleep.
In scene two, they had the exact same drink after sleeping poorly, having been awoken every hour for five minutes
each time. When it came to the third scene, volunteers drank a strong black coffee after waking up from an
interrupted sleep and were also given a sugary drink half an hour later.Once all three experiments ended,
researchers collected blood samples from each of the 29 volunteers and examined their blood sugar level
It was found that interrupted sleep had no obvious important effect on a person's blood sugar level when
compared to uninterrupted sleep.A strong black coffee drank on an empty stomach, however.increased their blood
sugar level to the sugary drink by about 50 percent
Although further research is needed to better understand long-term risks, the final research result of the
researchers is that drinking black coffee first thing before breakfast could actually have an important effect on a

Do you sometimes pay no attention to your mom while chatting with friends? If you are a teen, that's fairly
common.Researchers already knew that younger kids'brains respond (more strongly to their mom's voice
than to strangers'.But as kids turn teens, everything changes."In teen years,we show the exact opposite of that,"
says Daniel Abrams,a scientist who led a new research
The researchers studied the brains of 7-to 16-year-old kids as they listened to things said by their mother or by
unfamiliar women. The words were purely inane, such as teebudieshawlt, keebudieshawlt and peebudieshawlt. As
the kids listened to such rubbish words, certain parts of their brains became active. This was especially true in brain
regions that help them to detect rewards and pay attention That's exactly what it should be like.

The areas in the adolescent brain don't stop responding to their mom. It's just that the unfamiliar voices
become more attractive and then are worthy of attention."As kids grow up,they expand (their social
connections way beyond their family.Their survival depends less and less on their mother's support They depend
more and more on their friends and others at the same age as them,"says Leslie Seltzer,a scientist."So their brains
need to begin paying more attention to that wider world. The brain seems to adapt to new needs that come with teen
years."
"As a teen, you don't know you're doing this. You're just being you:You've got your new friends and you
want to spend time with them. You take more notice of these unfamiliar voices,"Abrams adds
So while both teens and their parents may sometimes feel sad about missed messages, that's okay."This is
how the teenager brain works, and there's a good reason for it,"Abrams says
