B The father of an 8-year-old boy says his son is now the youngest person to climb California’ s El Capitan. After four days of guided climbing, Joe Baker and his son Sam reached the top of the cliff (悬崖) face inside Yosemite National Park last week. “We made it!” Joe said. “What an amazing week! I’m so proud of Sam. He completed the youngest rope climbing of El Capitan! In a few years he might be back breaking more records.” Rock climbing has been a favorite pastime for the Baker family. Though Sam’s mother didn’t join the climbing, she is also a crazy climber. The family set up a website to record Sam’s adventures and collect money to make films that inspire parents to adventure with their kids. Sam began training at least 18 months ago and did well in a test run. They began the climbing on October 25 and reached the top on 28. They made the journey with the help of two guides. But their achievement has not been without controversy (争议): as the climbing made headlines around the world, some members of the Yosemite climbing community began to say publicly that what the pair had done was not actually called climbing. The Bakers used a technique known as “jugging” which needs using handheld devices to slide up a fixed rope that’s been placed by a guide, without touching the rock face. Reaching the top can not be so simple. The climbing takes many days, which means carrying up all necessary food, water and other heavy equipment. It also involves setting up and sleeping on a small platform that’s suspended (悬) thousands of feet in the air. The rock face is very exposed, a term (术语) used to describe a place that’s steep (陡峭的) and unprotected. 24. What do we know about Sam from the first two paragraphs? A. He is the best climber in California. B. He has been trained by his father. C. He is the youngest climber reaching the top of El Capitan. D. He is planning another mountain climbing with his father. 25. Why did the Bakers found a website? A. To record their happy life. B. To encourage families to experience adventures. C. To show off Sam’s climbing experience. D. To advise parents to climb El Capitan with their kids. 26. What’s some members’ attitude to the achievement of Joe and Sam in paragraph 4? A. Supportive. B. Impressive. C. Unconcerned. D. Doubtful. 27. What can we learn about the climbing from the last paragraph? A. It is challenging and fun. B. It needs some courage. C. It requires high-tech equipment. D. It affects most climbers’ sleep. C Anxieties about children and reading are not unusual, but news that fewer than half of those aged 8 -18 admit to actually enjoying it — the lowest level since 2005 — should raise a red flag. The survey, conducted by the National Literacy Trust (NLT) ahead of World Book Day, also revealed a worrying picture of growing inequality. One in 10 of 3, 000 parents and carers interviewed across the UK said they were too stressed to read to their child because of economic pressures, doubling to nearly one in five among those who described themselves as struggling financially. Meanwhile, 20% said they were spending less on books for their children as a result of the cost of living crisis, rising to 36% among those in financial difficulty. This gap was thrown into sharp relief by sales data for the last year, released by market analysts Nielsen Book Scan, which revealed a 15% increase in the overall number of children's books sold compared with 2019, though that number has fallen back by 1.2% in the first month of this year. If poorer families are spending less of the money invested in children's reading, it follows that richer ones must be investing more. The World Book Day survey was not all sadness and worry: it quoted government data showing that reading levels rose slightly in primary schools between 2019 and 2022. But success in getting a child to jump through hoops at 10 or 11 is only a small part of equipping that child to become a happy and willing reader, with all the benefits that reading habits are known to bring. So what is to be done? At a time of financial stress, libraries have a key role to play. A welcome sign that they are doing so came with borrowing figures for last year. For the first time in 14 years, a children’s author — Julia Donaldson, creator of The Gruffalo — topped the lending charts, with five others in the top 10. Libraries are where children of all ages go to choose books for themselves, as opposed to bookshops, where parental budgets, and tastes unavoidably have a noticeable effect. 28. What can we know from the first paragraph? A. Worries about children and reading are unusual. B. Most children aged 8 — 18 find reading interesting. C. There is intelligence inequality among most children. D. Fewer than half of the children aged 8 — 18 enjoy reading. 29. What makes some parents and carers unable to read to their children? A. The shortage of time. B. Economic pressures. C. The inability to read. D. The lack of interest in reading. 30. Why does the author mention Julia Donaldson in the last paragraph? A. To show the popularity of libraries. B. To stress the importance of reading. C. To encourage children to read more. D. To introduce a famous children’s writer. 31. What role do libraries play in promoting reading among children? A. They send free books to children. B. They offer reading activities for children. C. They are the main source of children’s books. D. They provide equality in children’s reading to some extent. D Blue-light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage, but a new analysis shows a different result. “We found there may be no short-term advantages with using blue-light glasses to reduce visual tiredness associated with computer use, compared to non-blue-light ones,” said Laura Downie. “It is also currently unclear whether these glasses affect vision quality or sleep-related outcomes, and no conclusions could be drawn about any potential effects on retinal (视网膜的) health in the longer term. People should be aware of these findings when deciding whether to purchase these glasses.” The studies they reviewed ranged in size and length, with a range of as few as five to as many as 156 participants assessed over different periods, from less than one day to five weeks. The authors said more researches with longer follow-ups in more diverse populations are needed to better assess any potential effects. Earlier this year, Dr. Robert Johnson said, “I would have patients coming in saying they just ordered blue-blocking glasses from the Internet for their daughter and what was my opinion. This blue-blocking situation has been fake basically from the beginning. It’s a complete nonsense that comes from advertising.” Instead of shelling out money for special shades, however, experts advise taking screen breaks. They recommend small breaks away from screens every 20 minutes. During that break, look into the distance at an object at least 20 feet away or farther, for 20 seconds or more. Also shut your eyes for 20 seconds during the break. Johnson also goes by the “20-20-20 rule”. “For every 20 minutes, look away in excess (超过) of 20 feet for 20 seconds,” he said. “That will relax your focusing mechanism that will give your eyes a break and that will make you more comfortable.” 32. What do Laura Downie’s words show in the second paragraph? A. Blue-light glasses reduce visual tiredness. B. Blue-light glasses help us get a good night sleep. C. Blue-light glasses are unlikely to benefit our eyes. D. Blue-light glasses improve computer use efficiency. 33. What’s Dr. Robert Johnson’s attitude toward using blue-light glasses? A. Neutral. B. Tolerant. C. Supportive. D. Disapproving. 34. What does the experts suggest to protect your eyes against blue light? A. Observing the “20-20-20 rule”. B. Setting up no screen time now and then. C. Looking into the distance every 20 seconds. D. Purchasing quality special shades for your eyes. 35. What might be the best title for the text? A. A New Study Of Blue-light Glasses B. Blue-light Glasses May Be Useless C. An Effective Way To Protect Eyes D. From the time she was a child, she was abnormally quiet; she would rarely speak unless she was spoken to, and even then her response would be very little. Despite her soft-spoken nature. she showed a great interest in art-particularly painting. Whatever she lacked in words, she made up with the paintbrush, and so it was through her paintings that I first noticed something was wrong. When she painted an animal, it would be the pigeons(鸽子)flying in Hanford Park; or, when she painted a person, it would be the partner she played badminton with at the Hartford playground. Whether intentionally or not, he sowed in her paintings what she hesitated to put into words. Being her elder cousin, I was eager to make her move to the big city as smooth as possible. Hartford was a small country town.so Minnie had grown up alongside familiar faces who were used to her timidity(羞怯). But in the city everyone was a stranger, which made it a challenge for her to communicate with others. This problem was more obvious with her changing schools. What’s more, she was under some pressure to improve her grades. Although she was a good student, her mother was very demanding of her. She always wanted Minnie to seize all the opportunities to be the best, but it was really difficult for Minnie. On Fridays when my high school finishes early, I usually head over to the middle school to walk Minnie home. It being such a Friday, I approached the school gate expecting to find her waiting for me as usual, but she wasn’t there. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The guard said he had seen Minnie leave alone already. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ There she was, sitting helplessly in the waiting area of the train station. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 凌云县中学2025年高二年级下学期第一次月考 英语试题 (考试用时120分钟,满分150分) 命题:高二英语组 审题:高二英语组 注意事项: 1. 6. The materials used in this activity were all from daily recyclable items. During the activity, we were divided into groups and each group created different handicrafts. Some made pencil holders from empty cans, while others made photo frames from cardboard boxes. We also learned some basic techniques of handicraft making, such as cutting, shaping and sticking. Personally speaking, through this activity, I not only learned some new skills but also realized the value of recycling and reducing waste. I believe that small actions, such as reusing recyclable materials, can make a big difference in protecting our environment. 第二节(满分25分) 【67题答案】 【答案】One possible version: The security guard said he had seen Minnie leave alone already. Immediately I called her mother, only to find she wasn't home. Anxious and worried, I took the usual path home, asking passers-by whether they had seen such a girl. But she was nowhere to be found. I was burning with anxiety. Standing by the roadside, I was at a loss what to do when her paintings of Hartford came to my mind. A ray of hope rose in my heart. Without hesitation, I rushed to the train station. There she was, sitting helplessly in the waiting area of the train station. I hurried to her, but all my questions went unanswered. Then I took my notebook and drew a sad face with a question mark. Slowly, she picked it up and drew a girl and a house-her Hartford home. Seeing that, I gave her a hug, saying “It’s never easy to start a new life, but we are all here with you.” She nodded in relief. Hand in hand, we headed home. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $凌云县中学2025年高二年级下学期第一次月考英语答题卡 姓名: 班别: 考场号: 座位号: 准 考 证 号 贴条形码处 C0] [0] [0] C0] E0] [1] [1们 [1] [1门 [1] [2] [2] [2] [2] L2] [3] [3 [3] [3] [3] [4 [4] [4] [4] E4] [5] [5] [5J [5] [5] [6] [6 L6] [6] [6] 选择题填涂说明: [7] [7] [7] [7] L7] 8] 错误填涂:州☑X灯 [81 [8] [8] [8 正确填涂:■ L9] [9] [9] [9] L9] 一、选择题 1CAJ CB] [C] CA] [B] [C] 11CA] [B] CcJ 16[A] CB] CcJ 2 CAJ [B][C] > CAJ CB] [c] [A] CBJ CC] 17CA] [B] [c] [A]B] [c] CAJ CB3 [c] 3 CAJ [c] 18[A] [c] CA3 CB]CC3 9EA幻 CBJ [c] CA3 CBa Cc] 19[A幻 CBJ Cc] [A] CB] Cc] 10CA] CBJ Cc3 15 CA3 [B] CC] 20 [A] CB] Cc] 21 CAJ 87 C7 CD] CA] CB] Cc3 CD3 31 CA3 CB3 C 0 ] CD] CAJ [B] 3 CA3 CD] 23 CAJ 27 CBJ [C] CD] [A] CBJ [C] CDJ CAJ CBJ CC] CDJ 4 [c] CD] 2 CAJ cB3 34 CAT CBJ [C] CD3 25 CBJ [C] CD3 30 [A] cBJ [c] tog 35 CA] CBJ [C] CD] 36 CEJ CF] CG] 1 EC 46 CDJ 37 CB] [0] CDJ CEJ LF门 6 CAT [B] EC D CAJ CB] [c] CDJ 3839 [c] [D] [E中 43 EC] 48 A] [B] CDJ [B Co3 CD3 CEJ 4 0 [0] CEJ CF3 te] 45[A] C8] Eca CD3 50[A] CB3 CC] CDJ 1 B] CAJ CB3 EC] CD3 53 [A] [B] CAJ CB3 CC3 CDJ 55 [A Cc] CDJ 语法填空 56 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 英语答题卡第1页共2页 A Handicraft Making Activity The guard said he had seen Minnie leave alone already.
