On a busy morning in May at 10 am, 72-year-old Han Dengbu and his wife were getting ready to head back home on their three-wheeler, or Sanbengzi.
“When we bought it, it cost about 3, 000 yuan ($414). We used it to pick up the kids and for farming. Now, we use it to spray pesticides on the seedlings in the village,” Han said, “Just twist the handle, and it goes.”
In Mangling town, Yanshi district in Luoyang, Henan province, it’s common for every household to own at least one tricycle. In just a few minutes, one can see dozens of tricycles whizzing by.
Sanbengzi got its name from the action of the driver standing on the pedals of the tricycle to ride on bumpy roads, appearing as if they were jumping.
The humble vehicle is now growing in popularity overseas. A Chinese video blogger in the United States shipped an electric tricycle from China for her father-in-law. The tricycle became a viral hit, with locals shooting photos and attracted by it. Some even offered to buy it.
The iconic “reverse, please be careful...” warning sound has echoed on foreign streets, and content featuring the tricycles has taken short-video platforms by storm. Even Hua Chunying, vice-minister of Foreign Ministry, and Xie Feng, China’s ambassador to the US, have promoted them on social media.
Zhufeng, a leading manufacturer in Yanshi, was one of the first to begin exporting tricycles. In 2011, upon hearing about the thriving two-wheeler export business in coastal areas like Guangzhou in Guangdong province, the company took its tricycles to the Canton Fair to try and enter the overseas market. At the fair, there were only one or two three-wheeler manufacturers, and being an exclusive supplier helped it secure foreign buyers. Meanwhile, as environmental concerns rise, electric three-wheelers, offering energy-efficient and low-carbon transportation, are consistent with the global trend toward low-carbon development.
4. What’s the advantage of Sanbengzi according to Han Dengbu?
A. It’s eco-friendly. B. It’s cost-effective.
C. It’s highly-efficient. D. It’s easily-operated.
5. What can we learn from the tricycle’s popularity overseas?
A. Tricycles quickly took up foreign streets.
B. The vehicle deeply impressed the locals.
C. Social platforms made tricycles easy to access.
D. Many people were warned by the iconic sound.
6. Why was Zhufeng able to attract foreign buyers?
A. Because the export business was booming. B. Because it could mass-produce tricycles.
C. Because tricycles were rare at the fair. D. Because the environment was valued.
7. Which can be a suitable title of this article?
A. Sanbengzi: A New Way of Transportation B. Tricycles: On the Fast Road to Global Success
C. Zhufeng: A Leading Manufacturer of Tricycles D. Tricycles: A Solution to Environmental Issues
【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. B

Last year, the word to describe much of the rise in food prices would have been “heatflation”, as drought and high temperatures affected crop yields (生产量) around the world, from olive oil in Spain to cabbage in South Korea.
This year, we’re facing a different concept. Let’s call it “sogflation.” If heatflation refers to price increases as a result of extremely high temperatures, sogflation is born out of extreme precipitation.
A report published in April showed that while Europe experienced the highest number of days with extreme heat stress, it was also one of the wettest periods on record for many places.
Potatoes are at the forefront of sogflation. With just one planting and one harvest per year. the conditions have to be just right. But last autumn poor weather conditions forced harvesting to stop in Europe after just three weeks, as wet soil meant farmers couldn’t get crops out of the ground.
Europeans eat among the highest quantity of potatoes per person of any region in the world — about 90 kilograms on average a year. English white potato prices are up 81% year-over-year, an all-time high. In Europe, the Netherlands and Belgium — two key regions that grow processing potatoes for fries — were the worst affected, with Dutch processing potato prices at their highest level recorded for US $397 per metric ton.
It’s not just vegetables and grains affected by the wet weather. Livestock (家畜) farmers have seen high death rates in lambs, while dairy cows in affected areas are unable to be turned out on grass reducing milk yields and raising production costs. Food production has always been at the mercy of the elements. But Harry Campbell, a market analyst, said that, as consecutive (连续的) years of bad weather pile up, it’s increasingly hard to recover from a poor season.
Supply chains will need to be more flexible. and ultimately more complex, to keep food supplies secure at a time when one supplier could be facing floods and another a serious drought.
8. What led to “sogflation”?
A. Intense heat. B. Serious drought. C. Heavy rainfall. D. Severe insect damage.
9. What was the impact of bad weather on potatoes in Europe?
A. Increased death rate. B. Delayed new planting.
C. Shorter growth cycle. D. Shorter harvesting period.
10. How will consecutive bad weather influence the food supply?
A. It will lead to an increase in the variety of crops.
B. It will force Europe to rely more on food imports.
C. It will require simpler and more flexible supply chains.
D. It will be harder for crops and related industries to recover.
11. What might be a suitable title for the passage?
A. From Drought to Flood B. Food Shortage on the Way
C. Saying Goodbye to Cheap Chips D. Extreme Weather and Rising Prices
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. D 11. D

【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“But last autumn poor weather conditions forced harvesting to stop in Europe after just three weeks, as wet soil meant farmers couldn’t get crops out of the ground.(但去年秋天,恶劣的天气条件迫使欧洲的收获仅仅进行了三周就停止了,因为潮湿的土壤意味着农民无法从地里收获庄稼)”可知,糟糕的天气缩短了欧洲土豆的收获期。故选D。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“But Harry Campbell, a market analyst, said that, as consecutive (连续的) years of bad weather pile up, it’s increasingly hard to recover from a poor season.(但市场分析师哈里•坎贝尔表示,随着连续数年恶劣天气的累积,从一个糟糕的季节中恢复越来越困难)”可知,连续恶劣天气对食品供应的影响在于使农作物和相关产业恢复困难。故选D。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段“This year, we’re facing a different concept. Have you ever felt so convinced you were right about something, that the thought of anyone challenging your belief could only mean they didn’t know as much as you did? If you have, you’re not alone.
Here’s why: you don’t have all the facts, but believe that you do. So you may stand your ground during heated debates, according to a new study. “Most people on average do this,” said the study co-author Angus Fletcher, a professor at Ohio State University.
In the experiment, 1,261 adults were divided into three groups to read an article about a fictional school that lacked water. One group read an article that only gave reasons why the school should merge (合并) with another that had water; the second group’s article only gave reasons for staying separate and hoping for other solutions. The third control group read all the arguments for the schools merging and for staying separate.
Fletcher’s findings showed that the two groups who received only half the facts-either just the pro-merging or the just the anti-merging arguments- -believed they had enough information to make a good decision. What Fletcher didn’t expect the most was that once everyone was given the other half of the argument, their opinions shifted to be equal to the control group who had both sets of facts from the beginning.
Therefore, curiosity about all sides of an argument can help resolve conflicts naturally. “If you feel yourself being annoyed by someone, lake a step back and say, how much do I really know about this situation?” Fletcher says. What led to greater understanding between the different groups in the study was access to all of the facts. Once each group independently reviewed the new information, they were able to come to a general agreement more easily.
He recommends that if you find yourself conflicting with a loved one or coworker, to pause and get curious about why they are thinking the way they are. “The odds are good that they’ll reveal something that would shift your perspective,” Fletcher says.
12. What do we tend to do during a heated debate according to the text?
A. Stick to our opinion. B. Express our feelings.
C. Hold back our emotions. D. Bring forth our thinking.
13. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about concerning the experiment?
A. Its process. B. Its outcome. C. Its theory. D. Its purpose.
14. What surprised Fletcher about the findings?
A. Perspectives of control groups remained unchanged.
B. Participants sought the opposite groups’ information.
C. All three groups were good at making wise decisions.
D. Views of half-informed groups changed with full facts.
15. What can be a suitable title of the text?
A. Argument: to be resolved or not B. Knowledge: the more, the better
C. Agreement: to convince all sides D. Curiosity: the key to “no conflict”
【答案】12. A 13. A 14. D 15. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是研究发现人们在辩论中倾向于坚持自己的观点,而全面了解信息和保持好奇心能够有效帮助解决冲突,促进相互理解。
【12题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Here’s why: you don’t have all the facts, but believe that you do. So you may stand your ground during heated debates, according to a new study.(原因如下:你并没有掌握所有的事实,但你认为自己掌握了。因此,根据一项新的研究,在激烈的辩论中你可能会坚守自己的立场。)”可知,在激烈的辩论中,即使没有掌握全部事实,人们也倾向于坚持自己的观点。故选A项。
【13题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段中的“In the experiment, 1,261 adults were divided into three groups to read an article about a fictional school that lacked water.(在实验中,1261名成年人被分成三组,阅读一篇关于一所缺水的虚构学校的文章。)”以及下文介绍的将参与者分成三组,每组阅读不同版本的文章可知,第三段主要介绍的是研究的过程。故选A项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“What Fletcher didn’t expect the most was that once everyone was given the other half of the argument, their opinions shifted to be equal to the control group who had both sets of facts from the beginning.(Fletcher最没想到的是,一旦每个人都获得了另一半的论点,他们的观点就会发生变化,与从一开始就拥有全部事实的控制组持平。)”
以及尾段中的“He recommends that if you find yourself conflicting with a loved one or coworker, to pause and get curious about why they are thinking the way they are.(他建议,如果你发现自己与亲人或同事发生冲突时,暂停一下并对他们的想法产生好奇。)”

When I was a little boy, I didn’t seem to be good at anything so that I felt inferior (较差的). I longed to achieve something to prove to myself that I am a capable person. So, I took part in various competitions, hoping to experience the thrill of victory and boost my self-esteem (自尊).
Unfortunately, I never succeeded in any of these competitions. This constant failure led me to feel discouraged. Feeling upset, I wanted to give up trying altogether. When my father noticed my disheartened spirit, he decided to step in and help me.
One sunny Saturday afternoon, he took me to a carnival held by our local community center. Every year, our town eagerly awaited this carnival, which was organized to raise funds for local charities. The carnival featured a wide range of delicious foods, exciting rides, games, music, and other attractions.
My dad led me to a colorful tent at the carnival. Inside, a game was set up specifically for children. The game involved throwing rings onto bottles to win prizes. An elderly man with a kind face was in charge of the game. It was still early, and no other kids were around yet. My dad pushed me forward and encouraged me to give it a try. I approached the old man nervously and asked, “How do I play this game?” He smiled warmly and explained, “It’s simple and fun. Just throw these rings and try to get them over the bottles. If you manage to get even one ring on a bottle, you’ll win a prize of your choice.” I then asked about the cost of the game. The old man replied, “It’s five dollars for ten rings.” My dad handed me the money quickly, and I passed it to the old man, who then gave me a bundle of ten rings. I took a deep breath and threw out my first ring. It missed the bottle completely, landing on the ground with a soft sound. Ring after ring, I missed each attempt. Sweat began to form on my forehead, and my hands trembled.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With only one ring left, I was very nervous.

I held the prize tightly in my hands, with a huge smile spreading across my face.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文:
With only one ring left, I was very nervous. Sensing my anxiety, my dad came over and patted my shoulder. “It’s okay, son,” he said gently. “Take a deep breath, focus on your aim, and don’t rush.” He guided me on how to adjust my stance and aim more carefully. Encouraged, I took a deep breath and threw the final ring. To my astonishment, it landed perfectly around the bottle. The old man clapped and handed me a small, colorful prize.
I held the prize tightly in my hands, with a huge smile spreading across my face. At that moment, I realized that with perseverance and patience, I could overcome my self-doubt. This experience at the carnival became a turning point, teaching me that I was capable after all, and I was no longer the boy who felt inferior. It was not just about winning a small prize; it was a life-changing moment. Since then, every challenge I encounter becomes an opportunity to prove myself. I approach them with courage and confidence, knowing that I have the power to overcome obstacles, just like I did with that final ring.

In Mangling town Yanshi district in Luoyang, Henan province, it’s common for every household to own at least one tricycle. In just a few minutes, one can see dozens of tricycles whizzing by.
Sanbengzi got its name from the action of the driver standing on the pedals of the tricycle to ride on bumpy roads appearing as if they were jumping.
C

When I was a little boy, I didn’t seem to be good at anything so that I felt inferior (较差).

1.续写词数应为150个左右;
