Many young Chinese people drink coffee when meeting with friends. Yang Lin lives in the U.S. but comes from an area in China famous for growing tea. She used to only drink tea while in China. But now, she says, she drinks both for different reasons.
"I would say ... I was a tea drinker when I was in China. But now, you know, with the influence of different holiday drinks ... I think I like coffee as well as tea now."
Yang Lin says that drinking coffee for her is a social event. She and her workmates like to sit in a café and talk over a cup of coffee.
Tea, she says, is more about family memories. She grew up in Fujian Province — an area
known for its tea. Ms. Yang says that as a child, her family would get together in the evening and talk about the day’s events over a pot of tea. So now, even the smell of Fujian tea brings back these warm family memories.
Voyo is another Chinese woman who now lives in Washington D.C. She says that after moving to the U.S. her tastes changed. We would call her a coffee convert, someone who now chooses to drink coffee.

Unless we spend money to spot(认出,发现)and prevent asteroids(小行星)now, one might crash into Earth and destroy life as we know it,say some scientists.
Asteroids are bigger versions of the meteoroids(流星体)that race across the night sky. Most orbit the sun far from Earth and don‘t threaten us. But there are also thousands of asteroids whose orbits put them on a collision course with Earth.
But $500 million worth of new telescopes right now, then spend $10 million a year for the next 25 years to locate most of the space rocks. By the time we spot a fatal one,the scientists say,we‘ll have a way to change its course.
Is it worth it?Two things experts consider when judging any risk are (i)How likely the event is;(2)How bad the consequences if the event occurs. Experts think an asteroid big enough to destroy lots of life might strike Earth once every 500,000 years. Sounds pretty rare but if one did fall. It would be the end of the world. “If we don‘t take care of these bid asteroids, they’ll take care of us,”says one scientist. “it‘s that simple.”
The cure, though, might be worse than the disease. Do we really want fleets(舰队,车队)of nuclear weapons sitting around on Earth?“the world has less fear from doomsday(毁灭性)rocks than from a great nuclear fleet set against them.” Said a New York Times article.
42. What does the passage say about asteroids and meteoroids?
A. They are heavenly bodies different in composition.
B. They are heavenly bodies similar in nature.
C. They are more asteroids than meteoroids.
D. Asteroids are more mysterious than meteoroids.
43. What do scientists say about the collision of an asteroid with Earth?
A. It is very unlikely but the danger exists.
B. Such a collision might occur once every 25 years.
C. Collisions of smaller asteroids with Earth occur more often than expected.
D. It‘s still too early to say whether such a collision might occur.
44. We can conclude from the passage that __
A. While pushing asteroids off course nuclear weapons would destroy the world.
B. Asteroids racing across the night sky are likely to hit Earth in the near future.
C. The worry about asteroids can be left to future generations since it is unlikely to happen in our lifetime.
D. Workable solutions still have to be found to prevent a collision of asteroids with Earth.
45.Which of the following best describes the author‘s tone in this passage?
A. Optimistic B. Critical(批评的) C. Objective(客观的) D. Arbitrary(武断的)

A few days ago, I ran into(撞上)a stranger as he passed by. I said sorry to him, and he said, "Excuse me too, I wasn't even watching for you.” We were very polite, this stranger and I. Then we went on our way after saying goodbye.
Later in the kitchen at home, as I cooked our meal, my daughter Betty walked up to me, very quietly. When I turned around (转身), I nearly knocked her down "Get out of the way!" I shouted angrily. She ran away, crying.
That night, when I lay in bed, my husband said to me, “You were so rude to Betty. Go and look around on the kitchen floor, and you'll find some flowers there. Betty brought those for you. She picked them herself-pink, yellow, and your favourite blue.’’
When I heard this, I thought deeply: While meeting with a stranger, I was calm and polite; but with my daughter, I was not patient. I felt sad and tears began to fall.
I quietly went to Betty's bed, "Wake up, my dear," I said. "Are these the flowers you picked for me?" She smiled, “I found them by the tree. I knew you'd like them, especially the blue.” I said, ‘‘I am so sorry that I treated (对待) you that way today." And she whispered(悄声地说),“Mommy, that's okay- I still love you anyway.’’ I kissed her and said, “I love you too and I do love the flowers.”
That day Betty gave me a lesson on how to get along with each other in the family. I spent much time on work before and didn't realize how important family life was. I decided to do better in the future.
