Passage 1
The following is the
narration of The Million
Pound Bank Note.
As a narrator, I will introduce the movie on the basis of its plot and elements in sequence.
In Act 1, Scene 3, two brothers, Roderick and Oliver, from the
upper class, made a bet
on whether a man could
live a month in London with a million-pound bank note.
They spotted a poor young man, Henry, and the servant on duty led him into the house with permission.
Indeed, Henry landed in Britain by accident when he was sailing.
He ought to seek help from the
American consulate, but he didn't dare to try again because he had been rudely refused.
Worse still, nowhere could he
get any help.
Roderick wondered what sort of work Henry did in America and knew he worked for a mining company.
Roderick asked more about Henry with patience and Henry answered with honesty.
Knowing that Henry didn’t have any money, they intentionally gave him a letter with a bank note in it.
Odd though Henry felt, he accepted it with hesitation.
He was about to open it when Roderick stopped him, saying that
he should postpone opening it in return.
They asked Henry to promise in case he would open the letter.
Henry promised them, leaving the house confused.

Passage 2
In Act 2, Scene 1, Henry entered a tailor’ s shop.
Noticing him coming, a clerk led him downstairs.
After going down some stairs,
Henry tried a suit and said he hoped to pay in a month.
However, the clerk standing aside refused him in a rude manner instead of serving him in a normal and polite way because of his ragged appearance.
Henry frowned and felt under no obligation to explain more, so he said, “You shouldn’t judge people by their clothes.
To be honest, I don’t want to trouble you.” But the clerk maintained his rude manner.
“In that case, there’s no problem.”
Henry said and gave the clerk the bank note. When the clerk looked at it, he froze in surprise.
The moment the owner saw it, he apologized to Henry and served him with a broad smile, willing to help Henry try more nice suits.
Faced with other options, Henry ignored and rejected.
Eventually, Henry was permitted to take a coat without paying.
As a matter of fact/Indeed, the note didn’t belong to him but it did bring him good luck and happiness to some extent.
The story tells us that we ought to respect everyone and pursue equity instead of judging a person by their external appearance.

范文赏析
Money is a good servant and a bad master
Francis Bacon said, “Money is a good servant and a bad master. ” I can’t agree more. Money is not only the most attractive thing in the world, but also the most controversial.
In today’s market economy, although money is not everything, it is impossible without money. In every aspect of life, we need money to buy what we need and do what we want. Besides, money can help us realize our dreams and enable us to have the ability to contribute to our society or do a favor for those in need. Therefore, it’s essential and vital.
Nowadays, everyone is striving for more money. Someone even becomes a servant of money. The temptation of money is so strong and huge that a number of people get involved and make big mistakes, such as losing the bottom line or breaking the law.
From my point of view, money is the condition of life, but not the only one. We should be its master not servant. At any time, we should remember, “Gentlemen love fortune in a proper way. ”
