Dolphins are believed to be very intelligent animals. They seem to be able to think, understand, and learn things quickly. Many scientists believe there is a special connection between dolphins and humans. There are lots of amazing stories about dolphins and humans. Here are two of our favourites.
Although dolphins use their brains differently from people, they are similar to humans in a way: both make plans to get something they want. In the seas of southern Brazil, for example, dolphins use an interesting strategy to get food. When fish are near a boat, dolphins show signs to the fishermen to put their nets in the water. By doing this, the men can catch a lot of fish. What is the advantage for the dolphins in doing so? They get to eat some of the fish.
Another story is about dolphins as a lifeguard to help save humans in danger. In 2016, Adam Walker went to New Zealand to swim across the Cook Strait between the North and South Islands. He was swimming when he saw a large dark shape below him. He knew that it was a great white shark and his life was in danger. Adam knew he didn’t have a lot of time. A few seconds later, a group of ten dolphins joined him and swam in a circle between him and the shark. The circle of dolphins kept Adam safe. After half an hour, the shark left, but the dolphins swam with him for another hour.
25. What does the underlined word “strategy” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Feeling. B. Method. C. Tool. D. Symbol.
26. From the first story, we know dolphins are ________ to fishermen.
A. a good helper B. a brave lifeguard C. a quick hunter D. a crazy killer
27. Why did dolphins keep swimming with Adam for another hour after the shark left?
A. To say goodbye to Adam. B. To make sure of Adam’s safety.
C. To guide the proper way. D. To show their friendliness.
28. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Dolphins—A Good Swimmer B. Dolphins—A Brave Lifesaver
C. Dolphins—Sharks’ Natural Enemies D. Dolphins—Humans’ Good Friends
C
Should I go for a hamburger or a piece of bread? Do I paint my room blue or pink? People make choices every day but it can sometimes lead to feeling scared and unsure. When you’re able to make decisions, accept and learn from them.
Some decisions, like what to buy or when you go out, aren’t very serious, but others can influence your health, school and relationships. It is important to take time to make a decision, especially when choosing makes you feel nervous. However, if you ignore (忽视) decision-making, you will be in trouble.
When it comes to making difficult decisions, it can be helpful to break down your thinking. You could start by listing the different choices, then weigh up the good and bad sides of each choice.
Teacher and health expert, Anita Garai says: “Listen to your body, especially if your thoughts are not clear or you feel worried.” Garai says people should follow their true feelings and listening to their hearts can help a lot. Although considering other people’s feelings can be a part of decision-making, Garai says you shouldn’t make wrong decisions in order to please others.
Many people worry if they can make the “right” decision. Garai says, “There is not always a right or wrong choice. Different ways lead to different experiences.”
If your choice leads to disappointment, try to think about whether you would make a different decision in the future.
29. How does the writer lead into the topic?
A. By telling stories. B. By giving examples. C. By sharing experiences. D. By asking questions.
30. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A Why decision-making is important. B. How long it takes to make decisions.
C. How you feel when making decisions. D. What decisions you make when going out.
31. What does Expert Garai advise you to do when making decisions?
A. To keep yourself excited. B. To please others around you.
C To follow your own feelings. D. To listen to your best friends.
32. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To help readers learn how to make decisions
B. To encourage readers to make right decisions.
C. To share different feelings of making decisions.
D. To introduce different kinds of decisions in our daily life.

Wang Qian was a lovely girl, who never argued (争吵) with her parents. But when she became an eighth-grader, things started to change. “We often argue, sometimes because of unimportant things,” she said.
Maybe Wang has got the “eighth-grade syndrome (综合症)”. Some experts think eighth-graders usually suffer a lot because of the changes in their body and mind. The lack (缺乏) of support is also a possible reason. Wang’s classmate Liu Shijia is an example. “The exams in Grade 8 are more difficult, but my parents still don’t support me,” she said sadly.
As eighth-graders enter the rebellious phase (叛逆期), they want to be free and have their own ideas. The survey shows that eighth-graders may try to persuade (说服) their parents when they have different ideas. Wang feels this deeply. She thinks there is nothing wrong with playing with boys, but her parents don’t agree with her. They often argue about this.
To deal with these problems an expert from Jiangsu gives useful advice to eighth-graders. “First, calm down and pay more attention to your studies. Second, develop some interests and share them with your parents. Finally, learn about your changes and know yourself well. Then try to accept them,” she said.
61. Why do students have “eighth-grade syndrome”?
