“Mom, are you ready?”
Dad had finally agreed that Mom and I could go on a one-week African safari! I had always wanted to visit Africa’s great outdoors.
It required a lot of training to get prepared for the safari. The training was boring, but I would suffer anything to go on a safari. And as the coach said, the training was very important.
At last, it was time to set out! The flight took 16 hours. I was bored to death, but deep down I still felt excited. When my mom, our guide, two other camping friends and I were driving to our campsite in an old jeep, I was thrilled to pieces. After taking many turns, we finally reached our destination (目的地). It was the day that I had been waiting for for the past three years!
We learned many interesting facts on our safari. For example, the giraffe has the most powerful kick of all the animals. The black mamba (树眼镜蛇) can move up to 11 kilometers an hour. I saw some lions trying to avoid the afternoon sun while lying under the shade of trees. I had read many books about wildlife. Aren’t lions, the “King of the Jungle”, very fierce (凶猛的)? We stopped to take a few quick pictures of them. The lions didn’t seem to mind. When I saw how calm they looked, I wondered if all the books I had read had been telling the truth.
At night, we had steak, baked potatoes, green beans and many types of fresh fruit I had never even seen before. They were delicious!
When we returned home, I felt tired but proud. It was an amazing trip I will never forget!

At an early age, we start learning how to manage money by watching our parents’ spending habits. Don’t worry if we haven’t learned well how to save or spend money. The following life lessons about money can help us form good spending habits.
Money doesn’t grow on trees. As kids, we don’t often think about where money comes from. We need to know that our parents work hard to make money, and that it may be used up one day. Going to their workplaces to watch how they work is a great way to understand money is not that easy to make.
We shouldn’t spend all our money in one go. It’s important for us to have a budget (预算). In other words we need to think about how much money we have and what we really want to spend it on. Realizing that our pocket money can’t cover everything we want, we should make smart spending choices.
We should set a clear goal and watch our money grow. If we wish to own a new bicycle but can’t afford it, we can save our pocket money. How? Write down how much money we have in a notebook and watch it grow. After we have enough, we can buy that wonderful bicycle we’ve dreamed about! Reaching our goal will greatly satiate us.
We can talk with our parents about how money is used and where money goes. Do you know what a bank account (账户) is? If not, communicate with our parents. We can also go to the supermarket with our parents to experience how money is spent in the real world.
Without doubt, we should treat money in a right way. Actually, learning about money isn’t a hard job. From these lessons, we can get a sense of money management and right money values step by step!
23. Where does money come from according to the text?
A. Parents’ hard work. B. Kids’ life lessons.
C Good spending habits. D. The bank account.
24. What does the writer want kids to do by giving the example of buying a bicycle?
A. Buy a wonderful notebook. B. Make a free spending choice.
C. Set a goal of saving money. D. Have an experience of shopping.
25. What does the underlined word “satiate” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Relax. B. Interest. C. Surprise. D. Satisfy.
26. What is the best title for the text?
A. Causes of Spending Money B. Ways of Managing Money
C. Purposes of Treating Money D. Conditions of Saving Money
D
Last week, my colleague (同事) Mary told me she had just spent two hours explaining to her students how to use the word “as”. I asked her if her students would be able to use the word correctly in everyday conversations after all of her great effort (努力). Her answer, interestingly, was, “Probably not.”
I began to wonder whether it was worth it to spend so much time teaching grammar rules to students. Indeed, grammar is important. It controls how words are put together in order to form sentences. For years, many teachers have been tirelessly explaining grammar rules to their students before giving them plenty of exercises to do.
In recent years, however, more and more studies have found that, for most language learners, studying grammar rules is not that important. Some researchers even consider it to be a waste of time. This has left some young teachers to wonder: Should I be teaching grammar to my students?
In my opinion, students should be taught grammar. However, I think grammar shouldn’t be considered as a separate “skill” or “course”. For the past two years, I have created situations in which my students feel a need to use good grammar in order to communicate properly in English. I leave them to discover the grammar rules on their own. Meanwhile, I encourage them to use English as much as possible outside of the classroom. I believe that, to become good at English, the most important thing is to spend enough time practicing speaking it.
I won’t ever spend two hours explaining a grammar rule. It will only make my students fall asleep rather than improve their English.
27. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A. Teaching Grammar is difficult. B. Teaching Grammar is very interesting.
C. Mary is good at teaching grammar. D. Mary’s students could use “as” correctly.
28. What’s grammar used for?
A. Doing exercises. B. Forming sentences. C. Making rules. D. Explaining reasons.
29. What’s the writer’s opinion on teaching grammar?
A. It’s not worth spending much time teaching grammar.
B. It’s useful to explain grammar rules to students.
C. It’s a waste of time to teach grammar rules.
D. Students are supposed to be taught grammar.
30. How does the writer teaching grammar?
A. By spending time explaining grammar rules.
B. By helping students discover grammar rules.
C. By using English as much as possible.
D. By Making his students fall asleep.

【原文】Hello, everyone! It’s great to be here. How often do you exercise? For me, I run three times a week. Running seems easy but it isn’t. If you are a beginner of running or just want to try the sport, here is my advice for you to avoid getting hurt.
First, wear right shoes. A good pair of shoes shouldn’t be either too big or too hard. The right size is very important to protect your feet and knees. Second, prepare your body for running. Some warm up exercise is helpful, especially for your knees. Third, choose the right place. Don’t run in busy street or on mountain road. A safe place like a park road could be a good choice. Finally, mind your running speed. Don’t run too fast in the beginning. If you feel too tired or uncomfortable, stop in time to rest. Hope these four suggestions may help you have a safe running experience. Thanks for your listening.

At an early age we start learning how to manage money by watching our parents’ spending habits.
In other words, we need to think about how much money we have and what we really want to spend it on.

【答案】例文:
Hello everyone! I’m Li Hua, and I’m really excited to introduce my latest invention. It’s a cool smart study lamp that’s made for students.
The lamp is mainly made of high-quality plastic, which is both durable and lightweight, along with some advanced electronic components. This lamp has an amazing feature. It can change its brightness by itself according to the light around us. This helps keep our eyes safe from too strong or too weak light. Also, it has a timer and a reminder in it. The timer helps us use our study time well, and the reminder makes us pay attention to our schoolwork.
For students like us, this lamp is more than just a lighting device. It greatly contributes to protecting our eyesight and improving our study efficiency. I sincerely hope you’ll find it as useful as I do.
Thank you for your attention.

Second, prepare your body for running some warm up exercises, helpful, especially for your knees. Third, choose the right place. Don't run in busy street or on mountain road. A safe place like a park road could be a good choice. Finally, mind your running speed. Don't run too fast in the beginning. If you feel too tired or uncomfortable, stop in time to rest. Hope these four suggestions may help you have a safe running experience. Thanks for your listening. Hello everyone, it's great to be here. How often do you exercise for me? I run three times a week.
