Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism Time: Jan 28 — April 21, 2025 From the 1910s to the 1970s, Brazilian artists were adapting contemporary trends, international influences and artistic traditions to create a new type of modern art. Everyday life in Brazil was the subject of this new modernism. The Indigenous (土著的) identity and Afro-Brazilian experience also influenced these artists’ works. The exhibition will bring you an expanded view of Brazilian Modernism. The Drawings of Victor Hugo Time: March 21 — June 29, 2025 Discover the imaginary worlds of Victor Hugo, one of France’s most famous writers, at this exhibition of his rarely-seen works on paper. Hugo’s ink and wash (水墨画) visions of imaginary castles, monsters and seascapes are as poetic as his writing. His works inspired Romantic and Symbolist poets, and many artists including the Surrealists. Vincent van Gogh compared them to “astonishing things”. Kiefer/ Van Gogh Time: June 28 — Oct 26, 2025 In 1962 17-year-old Anselm Kiefer followed in the footsteps of Van Gogh, starting in the Netherlands and continuing through Belgium and France. Set to turn 80 in 2025, Kiefer has been inspired by Van Gogh’s works throughout his 60-year career. This exhibition is the first to consider the lasting influence that Van Gogh has had on Kiefer, featuring works by both artists. Kerry James Marshall Time: Sept 20, 2025 — Jan 18, 2026 As an internationally known artist, Marshall enhances the presence of black figures in paintings. He places black bodies front and center in his paintings and murals (壁画). His work is informed by his own memories, art historical styles and genres, contemporary culture and science fiction. This exhibition features 70 works, including a new series of paintings made especially for the show. 1. Why is the Indigenous identity mentioned in the first introduction? A. Whose works seldom seen on paper are on display at the exhibition? A. Kiefer’s. B. Van Gogh’s. C. Victor Hugo’s. D. Marshall’s. 3. What is one of the features of Marshall’s paintings mentioned in the text? A. Imaginary things. B. Landscapes. C. Daily life. D. Black figures. B 2. C 3. 根据第一部分中“From the 1910s to the 1970s, Brazilian artists were adapting contemporary trends, international influences and artistic traditions to create a new type of modern art. Everyday life in Brazil was the subject of this new modernism. The Indigenous (土著的) identity and Afro-Brazilian experience also influenced these artists’ works.(从20世纪10年代到70年代,巴西艺术家顺应当代潮流、国际影响和艺术传统,创造了一种新型的现代艺术。巴西的日常生活是这种新现代主义的主题。土著身份和非裔巴西人的经历也影响了这些艺术家的作品)”可知,在第一个介绍中提到了土著身份是因为它影响了现代主义的形式。故选B。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二部分中“Discover the imaginary worlds of Victor Hugo, one of France’s most famous writers, at this exhibition of his rarely-seen works on paper.(探索法国最著名作家之一维克多·雨果的想象世界,在这个展览中发现他罕见的纸上作品)”可知,维克多·雨果的作品在展览会上展出了。 根据最后一段“He places black bodies front and center in his paintings and murals (壁画).(在他的绘画和壁画中,他把黑色人物的身体放在前面和中间)”可知,文中提到的马歇尔画作的特点之一是黑色人物。故选D。 B Have you ever dreamed of packing things up and hitting the road? Molly and Jaren Garcia of the lifestyle blog We Plus Three did just that in 2023. They sold their three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Joshua, Texas, abandoned some of their belongings, and moved with their three children into an RV (recreational vehicle房车). Since then, the family has already traveled to 25 states. The Garcias said they made the big life change because they wanted to be together as a family while Jaren Garcia, who was working in sales at the time, traveled for work. Molly Garcia now gives lessons to their children at home by herself — Lillie, 13, Jaxton, 9, and Willow, 5, and creates content for the family’s blog and social media platforms. Jaren Garcia is in charge of driving and has changed his job. The Garcias estimated that when they lived in a traditional house, they needed to spend approximately $3,000 per month. Now that they’ve moved to an RV, they cut their living costs down to about $1,000 per month. When it comes to keeping costs reasonable, Molly Garcia suggested buying a membership at Thousand Trails, whose members can park their RVs for two weeks for free. ‌“When you get into the RV life, if you bring a lot of weight into your RV, it’ll weigh it down,” Molly Garcia added. ‌“You’ll spend more money on gas, and you might get rid of some useless stuff because there’s so much weight in your RV.” ‌“We don’t want to scare people away from this lifestyle,” she continued. ‌“But you will get a lot more experiences, be able to travel and be on your own time.” “We just want people to know that you can do it if you put your mind to it, like the biggest roadblock that you’re going to hit is the one that you have set up, so you can overcome it,‌” Jaren Garcia added. 4. Why did the Garcias decide to move into a recreational vehicle? A. To travel around their country and the neighboring ones. B. To make it convenient for the family to sell goods. C. To ensure the family members can live together. D. To attract more readers to their blogs. 5. Why did Molly Garcia advise buying a membership at Thousand Trails? A. To get much cheaper gas. B. To save a lot of parking fees. C To pay less money to use roads or bridges. D. To spend less on their vehicle maintenance. 6. What are the benefits of living in an RV? ①Having a flexible schedule ②Owning larger living space ③Spending less money per month ④Receiving medical services easily ⑤Gaining a lot of valuable experiences A. ①③④ B. ①③⑤ C. ③④⑤ D. ②③④ 7. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to? A. Giving lessons to their kids at home. B. Having a relaxing lifestyle. C. Creating content for their blogs. D. Enjoying living in an RV. C 5. B 6. B 7. 根据第三段中“The Garcias said they made the big life change because they wanted to be together as a family while Jaren Garcia, who was working in sales at the time, traveled for work.(Garcia一家表示,他们做出这一重大生活改变是因为他们希望一家人能在一起,而当时从事销售工作的Jaren Garcia需要出差)”可知,Garcia一家决定搬进房车是为了确保家庭成员能生活在一起。 根据第五段中“When it comes to keeping costs reasonable, Molly Garcia suggested buying a membership at Thousand Trails, whose members can park their RVs for two weeks for free.(在控制成本方面,Molly Garcia建议购买Thousand Trails的会员资格,该会员可以免费停放房车两周)”可知,Molly Garcia建议购买Thousand Trails的会员资格是为了节省大量停车费。 根据第五段中“The Garcias estimated that when they lived in a traditional house, they needed to spend approximately $3,000 per month. Now that they’ve moved to an RV, they cut their living costs down to about $1,000 per month.(Garcia一家估计,他们住在传统房子里时,每月大约需要花费3000美元。 根据上文内容可知,文章主要围绕Garcia一家享受房车生活展开,再结合最后一段中“We just want people to know that you can do it if you put your mind to it(我们只是想让人们知道,只要你下定决心,你就能做到它)”可推知,“it”指的是上文中讲的“享受房车生活”。故选D项。 C Common water plant could provide a green energy source. Scientists have figured out how to get large amounts of oil from duckweed, one of nature’s fastest-growing water plants. Transferring such plant oil into biodiesel (生物柴油) for transportation and heating could be a big part of a more sustainable future. For a new study, researchers genetically engineered duckweed plants to produce seven times more oil per acre than soybeans. John Shanklin, a biochemist says further research could double the engineered duckweed’s oil output in the next few years. Unlike fossil fuels, which form underground, biofuels can be refreshed faster than they are used. Fuels made from new and used vegetable oils, animal fat and seaweed can have a lower carbon footprint than fossil fuels do, but there has been a recent negative view against them. This is partly because so many crops now go into energy production rather than food; biofuels take up more than 100 million acres of the world’s agricultural land. Duckweed, common on every continent but Antarctica, is among the world’s most productive plants, and the researchers suggest it could be a game-changing renewable energy source for three key reasons. First, it grows readily in water, so it wouldn’t compete with food crops for agricultural land. Second, duckweed can grow fast in agricultural pollution released into the water. Third, Shanklin and his team found a way to avoid a major biotechnological barrier. For the new study, Shanklin says, the researchers added an oil-producing gene, ‌“turning it on like a light switch” by introducing a particular molecule (分子) only when the plant had finished growing. Shanklin says, ‌“If it replicates (复制) in other species - and there’s no reason to think that it would not - this can solve one of our biggest issues, which is how we can make more oil in more plants without negatively affecting growth.” To expand production to industrial levels, scientists will need to design and produce large-scale bases for growing engineered plants and oil - a challenge, Shanklin says, because duckweed is a non-mainstream crop without listing infrastructure How is the oil obtained from duckweed plants compared with soybeans? A. The uses of the oil from soybeans are wider. B. The cost of the oil from soybeans is much lower. C. Duckweed plants produce much more oil per acre. D. The quality of the oil from duckweed plants is much higher. 9. Which might have the highest carbon footprint? A. Fuels from underground. B. Fuels from vegetables. C. Fuels from seaweed. D. Fuels from animal fat. 10. What is the problem with biofuels? A. They can’t be fully burned. B. They can lead to much pollution. C. It is not easy to store and carry them. D. Producing biofuels influences food output. 11. What does paragraph 4 tell us? A. An oil-producing gene must be added to duckweed. B. Duckweed can only grow in warm areas in the world. C. Duckweed may not be able to resist agricultural pollution. D. A special molecule must be introduced when duckweed grows. C 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第二段中“For a new study, researchers genetically engineered duckweed plants to produce seven times more oil per acre than soybeans. (在一项新的研究中,研究人员通过基因工程改造浮萍植物,使其每英亩的产油量是大豆的七倍。)”可知,浮萍植物每英亩产油量是大豆的七倍,比大豆多得多。故选C项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Unlike fossil fuels, which form underground, biofuels can be refreshed faster than they are used. Fuels made from new and used vegetable oils, animal fat and seaweed can have a lower carbon footprint than fossil fuels do (与在地下形成的化石燃料不同,生物燃料的更新速度比使用速度快。由新旧植物油、动物脂肪和海藻制成的燃料的碳足迹可能比化石燃料低)”可知,来自地下的化石燃料碳足迹最高。故选A项。 根据第三段中“This is partly because so many crops now go into energy production rather than food; biofuels take up more than 100 million acres of the world’s agricultural land. (部分原因是现在有太多的农作物用于能源生产而不是粮食生产;生物燃料占用了世界上超过1亿英亩的农业用地。)”可知,生物燃料占用了世界上超过1亿英亩的农业用地,所以生产生物燃料会影响粮食产量。故选D项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“For the new study, Shanklin says, the researchers added an oil producing gene, ‌‘turning it on like a light switch’ by introducing a particular molecule (分子) only when the plant had finished growing. (尚克林说,在这项新的研究中,研究人员添加了一个产油基因,只有在植物生长完成后,通过引入一种特定的分子来‘像打开电灯开关一样’启动它。)”可知,在浮萍生长完成时必须引入一种特殊分子。故选D项。 D As the year draws to a close, the Disneyland Resort is kicking off its holiday season with fresh experiences and style of furnishing and decoration. One sunny morning in spring, Jane, together with her grandchildren Alice, John and Ted, was playing happily in the backyard. While playing, Jane said to the kids, “I am going to plant some things in the garden. Who would like to help me?” “What are you going to plant, Grandma?” asked Alice. “I like pleasant, bright-colored roses.” “But I like lively, big, yellow sunflowers!” said John. “Well, I’m going to plant some vegetables so that we can have fresh vegetables to eat when they are ready,” said Jane. “How long will it take to grow vegetables?” asked Ted. He liked vegetables sometimes, especially tomatoes. “It will take several months before they are ready,” answered Jane. The kids were surprised. “Several months? Why would you do all that work and then have to wait so long?” asked Alice. “Why not just go to the store and buy them?” “Patience, my sweeties! Don’t you know food always tastes best when you grow it yourself?” replied Jane. “And if all of you come to help, it won’t be too much work.” “I’ll help you, Grandma,” said Ted. He put down the basketball and went to look at the gardening tools Jane had laid out. “What should we do first?” John and Alice came over to have a look, too. Firstly, Jane taught Ted how to use a shovel (小铲子) to dig rows of small holes for the seeds. Next, she showed Alice how to pour the seeds into each hole carefully. And then it was John’s job to cover up the holes with soil little by little. Finally, Alice wrote the vegetable names on the sticks that Ted pushed into the ground. “This way we can remember which vegetable seeds we have planted,” said Jane. After planting everything, the kids took turns filling up the watering pot so that Jane could make the soil nice and wet for the seeds to start to grow. “From now on, we just water them sometimes, and with some sunlight shining on them, we’ll have some delicious things to eat this summer,” said Jane. The kids were all very concerned about the garden. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The kids were eagerly waiting for their grandma's announcement. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The kids were all very concerned about the garden. Every morning before school, they would rush to check the soil moisture and count the tiny green shoots. When heavy rain poured down one weekend, John hurried to cover seedlings with plastic sheets. Ted carefully removed snails gnawing on leaves, while Alice drew colorful signs to scare away birds. “Plants need both care and challenges to grow strong,” Grandma smiled, guiding them to build a simple fence. Gradually, the garden flourished with heart-shaped tomato leaves, carrot tops resembling feather dusters, and pea vines curling around sticks. The kids were eagerly waiting for their grandma’s announcement. One July morning, Jane tapped her watering can rhythmically. “Today,” she paused dramatically as three pairs of eyes widened, “we harvest!” With sunhats bouncing, they picked plump tomatoes that warmed their palms, pulled orange carrots singing from the earth, and collected emerald pea pods that clicked like maracas. At dinner, Alice bit into a tomato and exclaimed, “It’s sunshine sweet!” John munched carrots claiming they tasted like “earth’s candy”, while Ted discovered peas were perfect for flicking into mouths. Their laughter blended with crickets’ evening song, celebrating patience rewarded. 词汇激活 行为类 ①急忙:hurry to/rush to ②覆盖:cover/shelter ③绘画:draw/paint 情绪类 ①仔细地:carefully/cautiously ②理想:perfect/ideal 【点睛】[高分句型1] When heavy rain poured down one weekend, John hurried to cover seedlings with plastic sheets. B Have you ever dreamed of packing things up and hitting the road? A To get much cheaper gas. B. To save a lot of parking fees. C. To pay less money to use roads or bridges. C Common water plant could provide a green energy source. “From now on we just water them sometimes, and with some sunlight shining on them, we’ll have some delicious things to eat this summer,” said Jane. The kids were all very concerned about the garden. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The kids were eagerly waiting for their grandma's announcement. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
