After completing my first year of studies, I decided to relax by taking a trip through one of the most richly cultured countries in Asia: Nepal.
The first thing I noticed about Nepal was its people. Kind and friendly ready to help someone in need. I’m saying so because of what I’ve witnessed between the citizens themselves, rather than how they treated me as a visitor. It is shown in the way bus conductors and passengers alike keep the bus waiting for that last passenger who is lagging behind (落后). It is evident in how a motorist smiles and waves off a kid who runs onto the street after his ball. The people are like a hot bowl of soup on a rainy day.
The first place I visited in Nepal was the Sauraha village in the district of Chitwan. It is an amazingly peaceful place, where the people live life at their own pace. It is a great area to see some of the wildlife, such as rhinos and elephants. The capital city of Kathmandu was where I spent most of my time. The city is usually very dusty, so make sure to wear a mask. Another great area in Kathmandu is the district of Thamel. Unlike most other districts, Thamel is very busy throughout the day. Out of all the places I’ve been to within Nepal, Pokhara is undoubtedly the best place to visit. There are a lot of fun things to try out. I’ve gone paragliding as well as boating in Fewa Lake, but you can also go rafting, zip flying and paramotoring.
Nepal is a very affordable destination to travel to. I travelled through the country for about two months and spent a little over 500 US dollars. Accommodation around Nepal is inexpensive, mostly varying from about 500 to 1,500 rupees per night per person. During my stay in Kathmandu, I stayed at a great hotel for two weeks, for 300 rupees per night, which is a great deal.
In a word, Nepal is a fantastic place. Whether you are looking to relax in the wildness and peace of nature, or for an exciting new adventure, Nepal has a variety of choices to offer.
4. Why does the author mention bus conductors in paragraph 2?
A. To thank them for all their hard work.
B. To introduce Nepal’s public transportation.
C. To explain Nepalese people’s sense of time.
D. To show the friendliness of Nepalese people.
5. What do we know about the Sauraha village?
A. It has a fast pace of life. B. It is home to many wild animals.
C. It offers visitors a lot of activities. D. It is a very dusty and noisy place.
6. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The costs of travel in Nepal. B. The interesting places in Nepal.
C. The working people in Kathmandu. D. The author’s experiences in Kathmandu.
7. How does the author develop the text?
A. By following time order. B. By showing district differences.
C. By sharing his own experiences. D. By explaining people’s behavior.
C
When you set a foot outside of your door to drop trash, go to a social event or go for a walk, thoughts like “I hope I don’t see anyone I know” or “please don’t talk to me” may run through your mind. I’ve also said such things to myself. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is to talk with someone, especially someone new.
Why do we go out of our ways to avoid people? Do we think meeting new people is a waste of time? Or are we just lazy, thinking that meeting someone new really is a trouble?
Communication is the key to life. We have been told that many times. Take the past generations, like our parents, for example. They seem to take full advantage of that whole “communication” idea because they grew up talking face to face while Generation-Y grew up staring at screens. We spend hours of our days sitting on Facebook. We send messages to our friends and think about all of the things we want to say to certain people that we don’t have the courage to do in reality.
Nowadays, we are so caught up in our little circle of friends—our comfort zone. We love it that they laugh at our jokes, understand our feelings and can read our minds. Most importantly, they know when we want to be alone. They just get us.
Holding a conversation with someone new means agreeing with things that you don’t really believe and being someone you think they want you to be—it is, as I said before, a trouble. It takes up so much energy, and at some point or another, it is too tiring.
But meeting new people is important. Life is too short, so meet all the people you can meet, make the effort to go out and laugh. Remember, every “hello” leads to a smile—and a smile is worth a lot.
8. What do we learn about the author?
A. He likes to meet someone new. B. He feels stressed out lately.
C. He’s active in attending social events. D. He used to be afraid of talking to others.
9. What’s the problem of Generation-Y in the author’s eyes?
A They rely on the Internet to socialize. B. They are less confident in themselves.
C. They have difficulty in communicating. D. They are unwilling to make new friends.
10. Why do many young people avoid meeting new people?
A. They think it troublesome. B. They are busy with their study.
C. They fear to disappoint their friends. D. They want to do meaningful work.
11. Why does the author write the text?
A. To stress the importance of friends.
B. To give tips on how to meet new people.
C. To encourage people to meet new people.
D. To display the disadvantages of Generation-Y.
D
Artists are continually trying to find creative ways to show their talent. Some, like Iris Scott, paint with their bare fingers. Now Turkish artist Garip Ay has become well-known worldwide by adopting Ebru, an ancient technique that allows him to create amazing paintings on water.
Believed to have originated in Central Asia in the 13th century, Ebru made its way to Turkey by the 16th century, where it was perfected. The art form remains popular in Turkey, with many painters using the technique to create attractive pieces, coveted by both collectors and tourists.
Ebru artists begin by adding some gum to water to help make the water stickier and thicker, and thus prevent it from mixing with the paint. The mixture is then poured into a wooden container with the same dimensions as the solid surface on which the painting will finally rest. To keep the colors floating, and improve their ability to spread across the water’s surface, some drops of ox bile (胆汁) are mixed in with each color.
To create the paintings, the artists first splash (泼洒) the paints on the water using brushes made with horsehair. They then use droppers (滴管) to carefully shape the colors and create the perfect designs. When it is completed, a piece of paper is carefully placed on top to get the painting. Once dry, the artwork is polished by hand.
Ebru was initially used for book covers or to decorate the inside pages with wildly colorful papers. However, artists like Ay have added a modern innovation by using water-absorbing fabrics, glass, and wood as solid surfaces.
Though Ay has created several amazing paintings since he began using Ebru in 2007, the most famous is his 2016 recreation of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. The artist also painted characters from the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things.
12. What does the underline word “coveted” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Produced. B. Impressed. C. Desired. D. Learned.
13. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A. How to mix up water and a variety of colors.
B. The preparations for creating Ebru paintings.
C. The whole process of creating Ebru paintings.
D. How to spread paints across the water’s surface.
14. What role does Garip Ay play in Ebru?
A. He has improved it. B. He creates it and spreads it.
C. He uses it to decorate pages. D. He adds a traditional method to it.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Turkish Artist Famous for His Paintings.
B. An Ancient Technique Used to Paint on Water.
C. Great Artists Creating a Lot of Unique Paintings.
D. Painting on Water Becoming Possible Eventually.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。
There are lots of chances in front of us. Whether you can seize them or not depends on the choices you make. This reminds me of one choice I made during my childhood.
Two tickets. Only two tickets to the final basketball game.
Three pairs of eyes focused on the tickets in Dad’s out-stretched hand. Mike, the oldest, asked the question running through everyone’s mind, “Only one ticket for us three? But, Dad, which of us will go with you?” Avery, the youngest, repeated the question quietly. I asked Dad if there was any chance to get more tickets. I might be the middle sister, but I was just as eager as my basketball-crazy brothers for a night out with Dad. Dad said he’d got the tickets from a friend and there were only two available.
Seeing that none of us would give up the chance, Dad told us he would choose which of the three of us deserved to go by the following morning.
The next morning, we hurried into the kitchen and looked for Dad, only to find that he had gone out. We were told to get started on our Saturday cleanup as soon as we finished breakfast. Mike complained that he couldn’t concentrate on chores with the game a mere eleven hours away. He slurped the last of his milk, grabbed the basketball and headed towards the back door. Avery dashed after his brother. Before I realized it, the door snapped shut. I glanced out the window and saw Mike practicing his shot while Avery cheered him on.
Seeing the mess on the breakfast table—the leftovers on the sticky plates and dirty cups, I felt frustrated. I approached the window and knocked on it. When the boys looked at me, I held up a kitchen sponge and dishtowel. Mike casually nodded to me and held up five fingers. Sure, five more minutes! I didn’t believe they would return to do the cleanup in five minutes, especially in Dad’s absence. Apparently, they had made their choice.
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 续写部分分两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

A He likes to meet someone new. B. He feels stressed out lately.
C. He’s active in attending social events. D. He used to be afraid of talking to others.
9. What’s the problem of Generation-Y in the author’s eyes?
A. They rely on the Internet to socialize.

第二节读后续写(共1题, 满分25分)
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 续写部分分两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

Paragraph 2:

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Possible version:
Paragraph 1: Anyway, I chose to do the Saturday morning chores on my own. I threw the leftovers into the dust bin, put the plates and cups in the sink, and cleared the table. With the sticky plates and dirty cups now clean, I felt a sense of achievement. As I opened the cupboard, something dropped out. I picked it up and found that it was the ticket. I was thrilled. At this time, the boys returned. I turned in their direction and held up the ticket. They looked at each other questioningly, as Dad’s car pulled into the yard.
Paragraph 2: Dad was happy to know I found the ticket he had hidden in the cupboard. Holding the precious ticket, I was proud of the right choice I had made. At the same time, shocked and regretful, the boys realized that they had lost the chance to watch their longed-for final basketball game because they had chosen to play basketball instead of cleaning the kitchen. Holding the precious ticket, I imagined what it would be like being at the game with my dad. It was the right choice to follow my dad’s instructions. It was a long-remembered lesson in responsibility from a dad who let his kids make their own choices and earn their own rewards.
