In order to save Johnsy, he painted a leaf on the wall during a rainy and freezing night. He did it at the cost of his own life. Behrman did the good deed. Behrman did the good deed at the cost of his own life. Post-reading Retell the story of Johnsy, using the last leaf as a clue. Johnsy got pneumonia and decided to die when the last ivy leaf fell ➞She changed her mind when seeing the last leaf still clinging to the stem after two nights’ rain and wind. ➞ She began to recover from pneumonia and became stronger. ➞ She learned that the last leaf was Behrman’s “masterpiece”. Post-reading Retell the story of Behrman, using the masterpiece as a clue. Behrman had always wanted to paint a masterpiece and leave the awful house. ➞ He got pneumonia and learnt that Johnsy also got the disease. ➞ In order to save Johnsy, he painted “the last leaf” at the cost of his own life which was a “masterpiece” to Johnsy and Sue.
