Teaching and Learning Design Book3 Unit1 Festivals and Celebrations 教学设计 Period 7 Teaching and learning contents: Writing presentation and evaluation + Language items learning + Assessing Your Progress Comprehensive teaching and learning objectives: By the end of this period, the students will have been able to: 1) Present and evaluate their writing; 2) Learn about the usage of the new language items in the text. 3) Review some words and phrases learned in this unit and practise using them in sentences; 4) Revise the functions and usages of the present participle as the predicative and the attribute in context; 5) Reflect on and access what has been learnt in this unit. Teaching and learning important points: 1) Writing presentation and evaluation; 2) Learning about the usage of the new language items, reviewing and practising using some words and phrases; 3) Using the present participle as the predicative and the attribute in context; 4) Summarizing and reflecting on what has been learnt in this unit. Teaching and learning procedure: Step 1 Review Activity 1 Review Review the organization and the language features of a diary entry. Step 2 Writing presentation and evaluation Activity 2 Writing presentation and evaluation 1. Choose a few (3-4 ) students to read their writing to the class and give feedback. 2. Work in pairs to evaluate each other’s writing using the checklist. √ Is the writing well-organized? √ Is there an opening sentence in the first paragraph? √ Does each paragraph include the necessary details? √ Does the writer describe his/her feelings and emotions? √ Does the writer use the -ing form correctly in the writing? √ Are there any grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors? 3. Make some corrections to improve the writing. Step 3 Learning about the new language items Activity 3 Learning about the new language items 1. In my diary, I set down a series of interesting and special things on that wedding. ①He set about painting the whole house but finished only the front part.(set about) ②He set out to paint the whole house but finished only the front part.(set out) 他开始着手粉刷整幢房子,可是只完成了前面的部分。 4. fancy adj. 精致的;昂贵的;花哨的 vt.想要;倾慕;自认为是;想象 n.想象;想要;爱好 fancy doing sth想做某事;竟然…… fancy that...认为;想象…… have a fancy for sth喜欢某物 e.g. Do you fancy going out to roast turkeys with me this weekend? She fancied that she heard footsteps behind her when walking alone in the street. 当她独自走在街上时,她好像听到身后有脚步声。 Learning that you have a fancy for paper-cutting, I am writing to introduce it to you in detail. 得知你喜欢剪纸,我写信向你详细介绍它。 5. After singing some songs,the competitors danced onto the green field,waving their arms in the air as if they were eagles.唱了几首歌后,选手们开始在草地上翩翩起舞,他们挥动着双臂,宛如雄鹰。 句中as if 引导方式状语从句。as if /as though 可以引导方式状语从句和表语从句。如look/smell/taste/sound+as if/though...看起来/闻起来/尝起来/听起来好像……是表语从句。若陈述一种事实,从句用陈述语气;若表示一种虚拟、假设情况或不可能实现的情况,则用虚拟语气。虚拟语气形式为:as if sb./sth. did/ were (与现在事实相反)/ had done (与过去事实相反)/ would/should/might/could+ 动词原形(与将来事实相反)。 e.g. He talked as if he had visited the attractive region before. When the house fell down, it sounded as if/though a mountain had been blown up. 房子倒塌时,听起来好像一座山被炸毁了。 Look at the clouds in the sky!It looks as if/though it is going to rain. Let’s hurry up. 看天上的云!看起来要下雨了,咱们快一点。 A young couple were eating, talking and laughing loudly as if they were the only people in the theatre. 一对年轻夫妇吃着东西,大声地说着,笑着,好像他们是剧场里唯一的人。 6. absolutely adv. 完全地,彻底地;(用于强调)确实地,绝对地 absolute adj. 绝对的,完全的;无疑的;确实的,十足的 e.g. You’re absolutely right. 你完全正确。 He made it absolutely clear. 他把此事讲得一清二楚。 “Can we leave a little early?” “Absolutely! “ “我们可以早一点离开吗?”“完全可以! A sick person needs absolute confidence and trust in a doctor. 病人需要对医生有绝对的信心和信任。 7. To be frank, that was one of the happiest moments of my life. moment-phrases: at the moment 此刻 at any moment 很快;随时 in a moment 片刻之后 for a moment 片刻,一会儿 for the moment 暂时,目前 the moment that 一……就…… 8. hot pot 火锅 9. branch n. 树枝;分支,旁系;部门,机构;支流,岔路 10. wedding n. 婚礼 at a wedding (ceremony) 12. clap vt. vi. 拍手,鼓掌;急速放置;轻拍 n. 鼓掌,拍手(声);霹雳声 e.g. The audience cheered and clapped. 观众又是喝彩又是鼓掌。 She clapped her hands in delight. 她高兴地拍起手来。 Give him a clap! (= to praise sb at the end of a performance) 为他鼓掌吧! They rose to applaud the speaker. 他们起立向演讲者鼓掌。 Give her a big round of applause! 为她热烈鼓掌! 13. respect vt.尊敬;尊重n.尊敬;尊重;敬意;方面 respect sb for sth因为某事而尊敬某人 have/show respect for sb尊重某人 with respect to...关于…… out of respect (for...)出于(对……的)尊重 in every respect/in all respects在各方面 respectful adj.恭敬的,表示敬意的 respectable adj.值得尊敬的 e.g. He is an honest man and pleased to help others, for which I respect him. Revise the meaning and usage of the words and phrases. 2. Use the words to complete the sentences and then check the answers. Answers: 1) significant; 2) fancy; 3) marching, media; 4) represents; 5) congratulations; 6) brief; 7) moment; 8) lunar; 9) roast(ed). 3. Revise some phrases learned in this unit. dress (sb.) up, after all, range from…to…, fade away, in spite of, take advantage of, have sth. in common, to be frank, go off, except for, set off Activity 5 Grammar review and exercise 1. Revise the usages of the present participle and the past participle. 2. Underline the correct word in each sentence and give explanations. Answers: 1) satisfying; 2) amazed; 3) annoyed; 4) dressed, frightening; 5) surprised, frying. Step 4 Reflection and summary Activity 6 Reflection and unit summary 1. Reflect on what has been learned by filling in the blanks. 2. Guide the students to list the texts (or discourse) and summarize the main content of this unit. Talk about festival activities/Discover the reasons for festivals and celebrations/Describe festival activities/Talk about festival experiences/Write about your festival experience Step 5 Evaluation Activity 7 Evaluation Get the students to evaluate their learning by answering the following questions. 1. What have you learned in this unit? 2. How is your learning effect? (Good/Fairly good/Moderate/Just so so/Poor) 3. What will you do to improve your learning after class? Homework: 1.
