I’m sure you’ve all noticed the snowstorm has become worse since we arrived here at 8 a.m. The school staff and I apologize for not realizing how heavy this storm would be. It was reported that there would be 5 cm of snow. But indeed, we currently have double that amount, and it’s expected to become over 20 cm by three o’clock. So, what does that mean? It will require classes to end now, at 11 o’clock. Lunch will still be served in the cafeteria; you may have it now. For senior students who have driven to school, you’re welcome to drive home, but please be careful. For everyone else, the school buses are coming at noon. You are advised to wait in the cafeteria until then. But please, for everyone in the school, call your parents to tell them what you’re doing. It’s quite a dangerous situation out there right now. And by this evening, we’ll have almost a meter of snow on the ground. Next, wait for an announcement from our school bus driver, Jamie Johnson. He will tell you more information about bus schedules and safety advice. Thanks, everyone—and please, stay safe out there.

In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift . On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I've taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.

A. Inspiring and practical. B. Tiring yet delightful.
C. Exciting and worthwhile. D. Difficult yet engaging.

根据文章第一段中“I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing. (那时我拍了很多照片,当你冲洗你的胶卷时,你会得到彩色照片,这一事实让我很高兴,它冻结了那些珍贵的时刻,温柔地鼓励了我的爱好和为冲洗而支付的费用。)”可推断,对于作者小时候拍照这件事,作者觉得这是令人兴奋且值得的。故选C。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. (这些年来不断增长的压力把相机从我的枕头旁推到了角落里的盒子里。)”可知,作者面临的压力越来越大,这使得作者停止了拍照。故选D。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me. (即使一天很满很忙,我也能抓住一些时间给自己拍照,观察周围的世界。)”和第四段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight. (对我来说,这个房间代表了我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接我搁置的年轻的自己,通过在我的生活中为快乐留出空间,通过创造一个允许快乐机会的环境。)”可知,作者通过重新开始拍照,在繁忙的日程中获得了乐趣。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
C
Trillions of evolution’s wonders, red-eyed periodical cicadas (蝉) that have pumps in their heads and jet-like muscles in their bodies, are about to emerge in numbers not seen in decades and possibly centuries. Crawling out from underground every 13 or 17 years, with a collective song as loud as jet engines, the periodical cicadas are nature’s kings of the calendar. These black bugs with bulging eyes differ from their greener cousins that come out annually. They stay buried year after year, until they surface and take over a landscape.
This spring, an unusual cicada double population is about to invade a couple of parts of the United States in what University of Connecticut cicada expert John Cooley called “cicada-geddon”. The last time these two broods (a group of creatures) came out together was in 1803. Thomas Jefferson, the then president, wrote about cicadas in his Garden Book but mistakenly called them locusts (蝗虫). Usually mistaken for hungry and unrelated locusts, periodical cicadas are more annoying rather than causing great economic damage. They can hurt young trees and some fruit crops, but it’s not widespread and can be prevented.
The largest geographic brood in the nation — called Brood XIX and coming out every 13 years — is about to march through the Southeast, having already created countless boreholes in the red Georgia clay. It’s a sure sign of the coming cicada occupation. “They emerge when the ground warms to 64 degrees, which is happening earlier than it used to because of climate change,” scientists said. “The bugs are brown at first but darken as they mature.”
Soon after the insects appear in large numbers in Georgia and the rest of the Southeast, cicada cousins that come out every 17 years will inundate Illinois. They are Brood ⅩⅢ. “And when you put those two together… you would have more than anywhere else any other time,” University of Maryland entomologist Paula Shrewsbury said. “These two broods may actually overlap — but probably not interbreed in a small area near central Illinois.”
28. How are periodical cicadas different from their greener cousins?
A. They appear once a year. B. They look more beautiful.
C. They have stronger muscles. D. They have a longer life circle.
29. What is a common belief on periodical cicadas?
A. They are a type of locusts. B. They have underestimated advantages.
C. They are Thomas Jefferson’s inspiration. D. They only eat young trees and fruit crops.
30. What can be inferred about Brood ⅩⅨ?
A. The red Georgia clay is more beneficial to them.
B. Climate change may be confusing their schedules.
C. The adult ones only live 4-6 weeks before they die.
D. They are expected to be found throughout the world.
31. What can best replace the underlined word “inundate” in the last paragraph?
A. Strike out. B. Give up. C. Flood into. D. Jump at.
D 29. A 30. B 31. C
根据第一段中“Crawling out from underground every 13 or 17 years, with a collective song as loud as jet engines, the periodical cicadas are nature’s kings of the calendar. These black bugs with bulging eyes differ from their greener cousins that come out annually. They stay buried year after year, until they surface and take over a landscape.
根据第二段中“Usually mistaken for hungry and unrelated locusts, periodical cicadas are more annoying rather than causing great economic damage. (周期性的蝉通常被误认为是饥饿的不相干的蝗虫,它们更令人讨厌,而不是造成巨大的经济损失。)”可知,人们普遍认为周期性蝉是蝗虫的一种。故选A。
根据第三段中““They emerge when the ground warms to 64 degrees, which is happening earlier than it used to because of climate change,” scientists said. (科学家们说:“当地面升温到64度时,它们就会出现,由于气候变化,这种情况比以前发生得更早。”)”可知,气候变化可能影响了周期性的蝉的出现时间,即,气候变化可能正在混淆它们的周期时间。故选B。
【31题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“Soon after the insects appear in large numbers in Georgia and the rest of the Southeast, cicada cousins that come out every 17 years will... (这些昆虫在乔治亚州和东南部其他地区大量出现后不久,每17年出现一次的蝉表亲将……)”和“And when you put those two together… you would have more than anywhere else any other time (当你把这两者放在一起时,你会比其他任何时候都有更多的昆虫。)” A. strike out罢工;B. give up放弃;C. flood into涌入;D. jump at纵身一跃。故选C。
D
Having high self-control is often seen as a good thing. It’s believed to be the key to success in life. But as suggested in a theory published by Professor Thomas Lynch, it may not always be a good thing—and for some, it could be linked to certain mental health problems.
According to Lynch’s theory, everyone leans (偏向) more towards one of two personality styles: under control or overcontrol. Being under controlled or overcontrolled is neither good nor bad because most of us are psychologically flexible, and can adapt to different situations. So, regardless of whether we're overcontrolled or under controlled, this flexibility helps us deal with life's challenges and setbacks in a constructive way.
But when we are much less flexible, both under control and overcontrol can become problematic. Most of us are probably more familiar with highly under controlled people, who may struggle to control their emotions and their behaviors may be unpredictable. This can negatively affect their relationships, education, work, and health.
Unfortunately overcontrol isn't talked about as much. This may be because overcontrolled characteristics—such as persistence, the ability to make plans and stick to them, pursuing perfection, and being in control of emotions-are often highly regarded in our society.
However, highly overcontrolled people may struggle to adapt to changes. They may be less open to new experiences. They may experience bitter feelings of envy towards others, and struggle to relax and have fun in many social situations. They may also use fewer gestures, and rarely smile or cry. Together, these may make a person more likely to experience social isolation and loneliness. This may eventually cause their mental health to worsen.
Alongside his theory, Lynch also developed a treatment designed to treat issues of overcontrol. It helps overcontrolled people by teaching them how to let go of the need t oalways be in control, be more open about their emotions, better communicate with other people, and be more flexible in changing situations. Continued work in the field will hopefully make it easier for people to get the help they need.
32. How does psychological flexibility help people?
A. It backs adjusting to changes effectively.
B. It assists in dealing with similar situations.
C. It supports overcoming physical challenges.
D. It encourages choosing the right personality style.
33. Why is overcontrolled personality less talked about?
A. It is insignificant. B. It is underestimated. C. It fits social values. D. It has changing features.
34. What can be inferred about highly overcontrolled people in paragraph 5?
A. They ignore their mental health. B. They know little of body gestures.
C. They experience few new emotions. D. They have a poor social support network.
35. What is Lynch’s suggestion for highly overcontrolled people?
A. Accepting more changes. B. Interacting with others more.
C. Evaluating feelings more often. D. Releasing more personal needs.
A 33. C 34. D 35. B
根据第二段的“Being under controlled or overcontrolled is neither good nor bad because most of us are psychologically flexible, and can adapt to different situations.(受到控制或过度控制既不好也不坏,因为我们大多数人的心理都很灵活,能够适应不同的情况)”可知,心理灵活性使人们能够在生活中灵活地适应不同的情况。 故选A。
根据第四段中的“Unfortunately, overcontrol isn't talked about as much. This may be because overcontrolled characteristics—such as persistence, the ability to make plans and stick to them, pursuing perfection, and being in control of emotions-are often highly regarded in our society.(不幸的是,过度控制并没有被谈论那么多。这可能是因为过度控制的特征——比如坚持、制定计划并坚持下去的能力、追求完美和控制情绪的能力——在我们的社会中往往受到高度重视)”可知,过度控制的人的特征(如坚持不懈、制订并坚持执行计划的能力、追求完美和控制情绪)通常在我们的社会中受到高度重视,由此可推知,过度控制的个性符合社会价值观,所以很少被提及。故选C。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“They may experience bitter feelings of envy towards others, and struggle to relax and have fun in many social situations. They may also use fewer gestures, and rarely smile or cry. Together, these may make a person more likely to experience social isolation and loneliness.
根据最后一段的“It helps overcontrolled people by teaching them how to let go of the need to always be in control, be more open about their emotions, better communicate with other people, and be more flexible in changing situations. (它帮助过度控制的人,教会他们如何放下总是控制自己的需要,更开放地对待自己的情绪,更好地与他人沟通,在不断变化的情况下更灵活)”可知,Lynch针对过度控制问题研发了一种治疗方法,教过度控制的人如何不要总是控制自己的需求,更加开放地表达情感,与他人更好地沟通,并在不断变化的情况下更具灵活性。由此可推知,Lynch给过度控制的人的建议包括“更多地与他人互动”这一条。故选B。

Mark Covington, founder of the Georgia Street Community Collective in Detroit, stands in a corner of his urban farm, breathing the fresh air in the early morning. ____36____ Early in the day, the green crops giving life to tomatoes, cabbages, eggplants, and more are bathed in gold, as if being watered by the sun. The sounds of dogs, pigs, roosters, and a group of stirring bees drown out the sounds of the city.
In 2007, Covington lost his job and returned to his childhood street. ____37____ “It was dirty,” he said. “There were always vacant lots, but they had always been maintained for children to play on.” He knew that if he just cleaned them up, people would pile on them again. ____38____
Covington started with a small community garden. ____39____ One mother sent three children to help him build a larger garden where the kids could grow food, stay busy during the summer and add structure to their lives.
根据上文“Mark Covington, founder of the Georgia Street Community Collective in Detroit, stands in a corner of his urban farm, breathing the fresh air in the early morning.(Mark Covington是底特律乔治亚街社区集体组织的创始人,他站在自家城市农场的一角,呼吸着清晨的新鲜空气)”及下文“Early in the day, the green crops giving life to tomatoes, cabbages, eggplants, and more are bathed in gold, as if being watered by the sun.(清晨,绿色的庄稼,如西红柿、卷心菜、茄子等,沐浴在金色之中,仿佛被太阳浇灌过)”可知,这些描述共同构成了清晨在这个集体农场中的典型景象,B项“这是集体农场的一个典型清晨场景”符合语境,故选B。
根据上文“In 2007, Covington lost his job and returned to his childhood street.(2007年,Covington失去了工作,回到了儿时的街道)”以及下文“‘It was dirty,’ he said.(‘很脏,’他说)”可知,此处是说Covington回到儿时的街道后看到脏乱的景象,C项“他看到垃圾堆在空的、废弃的空地上”符合语境,故选C。
上文“Covington started with a small community garden.(Covington从一个小的社区花园开始)”提到Covington开始种植社区花园,结合下文“One mother sent three children to help him build a larger garden where the kids could grow food, stay busy during the summer and add structure to their lives.(一位母亲让三个孩子帮他建了一个更大的花园,孩子们可以在那里种食物,在夏天保持忙碌,并为他们的生活增添一些安排)”可知,邻居们和Covington一起种植社区花园,E项“邻居们几乎立刻就开始要求参与进来”符合语境,故选E。
结合下文“On one corner: a movie screen and a public garden with vegetable and flower beds. On another: a farm and a community center in a building. Nearby are garlic beds and a greenhouse.(在一个角落里:一个电影屏幕和一个有蔬菜和花坛的公共花园。

I didn’t like Del so much. He always called me the nickname “Germy”, which meant “dirty”, instead of my real name “Jamie”. Besides, he was known as a trouble-maker in school. So when the head teacher Mr. Smith asked Del to come to his office, I naturally thought that Del had done something mean to someone. Through the window, I caught sight of a smaller boy crying. Del seemed unhappy, too.
He did not return to class that day. All of us were discussing what had happened to him. What else could such an annoying boy do? “He must have hit the boy and was sent home,” I whispered to my friends. Their eyes widened. It felt good to see them so interested in what I said.
The next morning, the whole school was talking about Del being expelled(开除) for beating up a kid. I was surprised that my assumptions were passed on so quickly. So when Del walked into the classroom, all the kids were shocked. The kids next to him shift ed their desks away. “What’s your problem?” Del asked. “I don’t want you to attack me,” one kid said. Some laughed. “Yeah, I might,” said Del. I could tell he was joking, but many kids thought he admitted he did beat up someone.
During recess(课间休息), Del tried to join the kickball game. “Neither team wants you,” one of the players said. “Why?” Del asked, looking confused. “I always play with you guys.” They ignored him and went on playing. Del sat by himself while the rest of the school enjoyed their recess away from him. Del looked lonely and sad, much different from before. I started to feel sorry for him.
Later that day, I learned what really happened. The kid was Del’s little brother and he was crying because their mother fell ill and was sent to hospital. I felt even sorrier for what I said before. I started a rumor(谣言).
注意:
At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game.

Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. Not wanting him to feel left out, I walked over and sat down beside him. “Hey Germy,” he said. “My name is Jamie.” I replied. I wanted to apologize for starting that rumor about him, but I was too ashamed to say it out loudly. “Del, do you want to play kickball with us?” I asked instead. He looked surprised but happy at the same time. After a moment of silence, he nodded his head.
Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. I stood up and shouted to the other kids, “Guys, come here! Let’s play kickball together! ” Some of them hesitated, but they eventually joined us. Del was smiling again and so were we. As we played, I realized that Del wasn’t as bad as I thought he was. He was just a normal kid who wanted to have fun and be accepted by others. From then on, whenever someone tried to start a rumor about him, I would stand up for him and tell them the truth about Del. We became good friends, and I learned an important lesson about judging people based on rumors.

A. Strike out. B. Give up. C. Flood into. D. Jump at.

Unfortunately, overcontrol isn't talked about as much.

Later that day I learned what really happened. The kid was Del’s little brother and he was crying because their mother fell ill and was sent to hospital. I felt even sorrier for what I said before. I started a rumor(谣言).
注意:
