B Four volunteers, who spent more than a year living in a 1,700-square-foot space created by NASA to simulate (模仿) the environment on Mars, have left their habitat. The members of the Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (模拟) mission — or CHAPEA — walked through the door of their home at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston to a round of applause. “Hello. It’s actually just so wonderful to be able to say hello to you all, ” CHAPEA commander Kelly Haston said to the crowd. Haston and the other three crew members — science officer Anca Selariu, flight engineer Ross Brockwell and medical officer Nathan Jones, entered the 3D-printed Mars environment on June 25, 2023, as part of a NASA experiment to observe how humans would react to living on the Red Planet. The volunteers grew their own vegetables, maintained equipment, participated in so-called Marswalks and faced stressful situations that actual space travelers to Mars could experience, including 22-minute communication delays with the Earth. The 378-day effort was the first of three NASA missions the space agency has planned to test how humans would respond to the conditions and challenges of living on Mars, where NASA says it could send astronauts as soon as the 2030s. The second CHAPEA mission is scheduled for the spring of 2025, and the third is going to begin in 2026. After coming out of the simulated Mars habitat, Anca Selariu reflected on why she and others chose to devote themselves to this particular effort. “I’ve been asked many times: Why go to Mars?” Selariu said. “Because it’s possible. Because space can unite and bring out the best in us. Because it’s one critical step that humans will take to light the way into the next centuries.” NASA has conducted other isolation experiments before, including simulated journeys through space of roughly 30 days and underwater missions lasting up to three weeks at a time. 24. What is the main purpose of the CHAPEA mission? A. To train astronauts for future missions. B. To explore how to grow plants on Mars. C. To develop new space travel technologies. D. To study human reactions to living on Mars. 25. What do we know about the crew of the mission? A. They all walked in space several times. B. They were all experienced astronauts. C. They lived in an artificial environment. D. They exited 22 minutes later than planned. 26. What does Anca Selariu say about Mars exploration? A. It is challenging and costly. B. It is important for our future. C. It is too dangerous for humans. D. It will be delayed till the 2030s. 27. Where is the text probably from? A. A news report. B. An autobiography. C. A guidebook. D. A book review. C With massive factors influencing academic achievement, it can be difficult to identify the exact reason why some students excel(胜过)while others fall behind. However, a report released by the National Center on Scaling Up Effective Schools(NCSU)shows that student ownership and responsibility are key factors that have a big impact on a student's quality of academic performance. The report presented findings from the first phase of a five-year research project that aims to identify the types of programs, practices and processes that support better outcomes for students at risk of failure. Initial findings indicated that the practice of increasing student ownership and responsibility for their academic success was a distinguishing feature of schools with higher student achievement. The researchers explain that students who take responsibility for their own learning are personally invested in their education and are more committed to understanding their subject matter. One thing that all schools with higher value-added students had in common was that they held high expectations for student leaning. These schools didn't just assume that students would develop this sense of responsibility on their own; instead, teachers put specific structures in place to help students take ownership of their education, and made a concentrated effort to encourage and support students along the way. Additionally, teachers held the mindset that student ownership must be developed early on in a student's educational career. The research shows that students who are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning are better able to work toward learning goals and demonstrate life skills such as initiative, self-direction and productivity. Such students will show their responsibility through behaviors such as completing assignments on time, making up for missed work, seeking additional help when they are struggling, asking questions when confused, and monitoring their own learning. Lead researcher Marisa Cannata points out that these findings are consistent with the current research that focuses on helping students develop so-called “growth mindsets(心态)” and providing them with the skills they need to focus their learning efforts. The specific practices and conditions that make such a learning environment possible are described in more detail in the report Reaching for Rigor: Identifying Practices of Effective High Schools. 28. What does the NCSU report focus on? A. The importance of personalized education. B. The key drivers of academic achievement. C. The main standards for assessing student success. D. The causes of underperformance among students. 29. What is a characteristic of schools with higher-achieving students? A. They increase spending on hardware facilities. B. They offer an environment of student responsibility. C. They have lower expectations for learning outcomes. D. They emphasize shared responsibility early in education. 30. What is the last but one paragraph mainly about? A. The life skills essential for academic achievement. B. The role of learning goals in facilitating student learning. C. The challenges faced by students struggling academically. D. The benefits of taking responsibility for one's learning efforts. 31. What might be discussed in the following paragraph? A. The detailed formation process of Reaching for Rigor. B. The debates surrounding the idea of growth mindsets. C. The practices and conditions for growth mindsets and skills. D. The common findings in comparison to other researches. D Years ago, the world-known Viennese philosopher Viktor E. Frankl criticized the popular understanding of some cherished American values, such as our idea of freedom. He took exception to what appeared to be a commonly accepted view of equating freedom with a license to do virtually anything one wants. To Frankl, freedom without responsibility was nonsense. That is why he suggested that the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor on the East Coast be accompanied by a “Statue of Responsibility” somewhere along the West Coast. Such a monument makes sense to me and, in my view, would be much more than just a “bookend” to the Statue of Liberty. It could serve, among other things, as an important reminder to everyone of what is required to safeguard true freedom and how to perform civil responsibilities. A nonprofit foundation exists to advance Frankl’s idea with the goal of completing the statue. After the initial release of Prisoners of Our Thoughts, which I was honored to write at Dr. Frankl’s personal urging, I also became involved in the nonprofit foundation’s efforts in an advisory capacity as well as being invited to be one of the contributors to a book it sponsored entitled, Responsibility 911: With Great Liberty Comes Great Responsibility, published in 2008. This book examined the role that responsibility plays in a free society. In this regard, I was honored to be among a very distinguished group of contributors. As you can learn from this list, the book embraced a wide range of ideologies (意识形态) and political beliefs. Indeed, making a strong and diversified case for the role of responsibility in a free society belongs to no one political party or a particular group. Rather, responsibility is a demonstration of the “ability to respond” and, in this context, requires rules of engagement that include both civility and agreement to disagree on matters of common concern. Diversity in all of its various dimensions, especially the diversity of thought, must be respected as a necessity of “responsibility” in the collective (集体,共同). Otherwise, we will never be able to reach common ground, a meaningful objective requiring, first and foremost, that we are willing and able to go to higher ground. 32. What does the underlined part “took exception to” in paragraph 1mean? A. Disapproved. B. Misunderstood. C. Excluded. D. Compared. 33 Why does the author believe a Statue of Responsibility is needed? A. To honour the legacy of humanity. B. To promote tourism on the West Coast. C. To symbolize the importance of freedom. D. To urge people to perform their civil duties. 34. What do we know about Responsibility 911? A. It was sponsored by Viktor E. Frankl. B. It is a collective work of diverse writers. C. It was recommended by many celebrities. D. It is based on Prisoners of Our Thoughts. 35. What is necessary for a responsible society according to the author? A. Respecting the diversity of thought. B. Ignoring different political beliefs. C Having a uniform ideology and belief. D. Controlling various dimensions of diversity. 第二节七选五(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Having a roommate can be great, but it takes some effort to make it work. Before every swim meet, he would have a bowl, believing it was his lucky charm. At first, it seemed to work. He won race after race, feeling on top of the world. His confidence soared, and he thought the ice cream was the secret to his success. His parents, though concerned about the unhealthy habit, let it slide as long as he was winning. However, as time passed, Mike started to gain weight, and his performance in the pool suffered. He went from first place to last, and his once-unbeatable feeling was gone. He was confused and disappointed, not understanding why his "lucky charm" had failed. His parents decided it was time for a change. They sat him down and explained the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise. Reluctantly, Mike agreed to give up the ice cream and start training harder. His father offered to run with him, and they began a strict workout routine. At first, it was tough. Mike missed the comfort of his favorite ice cream, and practices were harder without the extra energy boost. But slowly, he started to feel healthier and stronger. His breathing improved, and he could swim faster and longer. The day of the final swim meet of the season arrived. Mike stood at the edge of the pool, feeling nervous but determined. He took a deep breath, remembering all the hard work he and his dad had put in. With a powerful dive, he entered the water and began to swim. Stroke by stroke, he pushed himself, ignoring the burning in his muscles. As he swam, he could hear the cheers of the audience faintly in the background. With every lap, he gained more confidence. When he made the final turn, he saw the finish line ahead. He gathered all his strength for one last burst and touched the wall. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 As he lifted his head out of the water, Mike glanced up at the scoreboard. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Shortly after coming out of the pool, Mike rushed to his parents excitedly. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年第二学期高三年级期初学情调研测试 英语试题 (本试卷满分150分, 考试时间120分钟) 第一部分听力(共两节, 满分30分) 做题时, 先将答案标在试卷上。 What does the man probably want to do? 【答案】24. D 25. C 26. B 27. 【答案】28. B 29. B 30. D 31. C. Having a uniform ideology and belief. D. Controlling various dimensions of diversity. 【答案】32. A 33. D 34. B 35. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了作者对于社会责任的看法以及围绕社会责任所创作的书籍Responsibility 911。 【32题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段“Years ago, the world-known Viennese philosopher Viktor E. Here are some tips on how roommates can set themselves up for success. Know your non-negotiables. These are things you cannot compromise (妥协) on in order to feel safe and comfortable in your own home. That includes your policy on alcohol, pets and overnight guests. Knowing your non-negotiables can help you set clear boundaries with your roommate. ___36___ Ask hard questions. Discuss the ground rules of your living arrangement. How are we splitting (分摊) the rent? What’s our guest policy? Should we create a cleaning schedule? ___37___ If your roommate says they’re good about “paying rent on time”, for example, ask them what “on time” means to them. ___38___ If your roommate does something that bothers you, address it immediately. It might feel awkward, but addressing the minor issues — like asking your roommate to put away their shoes on the shoe holder — can help prevent a further bigger conflict. Think about the relationship you want. ___39___ It’s perfectly fine to live with other people who are respectful and pay their bills but keep to themselves. If you’re considering moving in with a best friend, proceed with caution. If you aren’t able to work through everyday conflict, being roommates could hurt your friendship. Invite more play into your home. Don’t forget to have fun with your roommate. Host events together, like a themed party or invite friends over to watch a movie or sports game. Keep a guestbook for your apartment and have guests sign it. ___40___ A. Work hard at the small stuff. B. Negotiate about personal habits. C. And make your expectations clear. D. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version : As he lifted his head out of the water, Mike glanced up at the scoreboard. His name was at the top, displaying a personal best. Not only had he regained his strength, but he also surpassed his previous records. The crowd’s cheers echoed, but what truly mattered was the quiet satisfaction of overcoming his struggles. This win was different—it was about perseverance and growth, not just luck. Shortly after coming out of the pool, Mike rushed to his parents excitedly. His face was glowing with excitement as he hugged them tightly. They hugged back, their eyes filled with tears of joy. Mike felt grateful for their unwavering support. He understood that the real key to his success was discipline and resilience, not the ice cream he once relied on. This victory wasn’t just about swimming; it was about proving to himself that he could rise up to challenges and achieve his goals through hard work and determination. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:display/demonstrate/show ②重要:matter/count ③克服:overcome/get over ④意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①快乐:joy/delight ②宽慰:relief/comfort 【点睛】【高分句型1】Not only had he regained his strength, but he also surpassed his previous records.(运用了部分倒装句式)   【高分句型2】The crowd’s cheers echoed, but what truly mattered was the quiet satisfaction of overcoming his struggles.(运用了what引导的主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
