B It is difficult to name a female architect more iconic than Zaha Hadid, whose name can be translated from Arabic as glorious. She passed away five years ago at the age of 65, but the impact she has left on the world of architecture is profound. Hadid was born into an upper-class Iraqi family in 1950. At the very beginning, she wanted to become a mathematician and studied science at the American University of Beirut, But at some point she realized that she preferred shapes to numbers. And she turned her concentration to architecture and went to London where she met the famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. “There are 360 degrees, so why stick to one?” Hadid once said. Despite her abundance of amazing ideas, before the beginning of the 90s, not a single building based on her blueprints had been built. Her highly expressive style, while initially criticized and believed to be crazy, is now regarded as pioneering work. Her striking contemporary architecture, inspired by natural landforms, has graced the skylines of major metropolitan cities. “Women are always being told, ‘you’re not going to make it; It’s too difficult. You can’t do that Don’t enter this competition; You’ll never win it’,” Hadid said. “They need confidence in themselves and people around them for support.” Never one to be boxed in by conventions, Hadid proved society wrong. She received her first prize, the “Gold Medal Architectural Design” for her British Architecture in 1982. From then on, the awards kept rolling in. But the true triumph for Hadid came in 2004. Her project for the London Olympics Aquatic Center won her the Pritzker Architecture Prize. She became the first woman and first Muslim to earn the award, making a name for herself and paving the way for female architects. Hadid’s genius lives on in the array of many other spectacular buildings she has left behind in the world. Among them are the Guangzhou Opera House, the Beijing Daxing International Airport, as well as the Al Wakrah Stadium in Qatar where the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held. Hadid may be gone, but her global influence on a new generation of female architects is here to stay. 4. What made Hadid quit science to learn architecture? A. Her talent in architecture. B. Her interest in architecture. C. Her difficulty in learning science. D. Her encounter with Rem Koolhaas. 5. What can we learn about Hadid’s works? A Her architecture was inspired by mathematics B. Her British Architecture won her the Pritzker Architecture Prize. C. Her architecture style was too bold to be accepted at the very beginning. D. Her works can only be found in European countries and the Middle East. 6. What does paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The talk between Hadid and her colleague. B. The reason why women fail to be architects. C. The prejudice from society against women. D. The difficulty Hadid faced being an architect. 7. What is the most profound impact Hadid has left on the world? A. She formed a unique style. B. She broke away from the convention. C. She received various architecture awards D. She encouraged other women architects. C In a new study of more than 50,000 Korean adolescents, those who used a smartphone for more than 4 hours per day had higher rates of adverse mental health and substance use. Jin Hwa Moon and Jong Ho Cha of Hanyang University Medical Center, Korea, and colleagues presented these findings in the open-access journal PLOS ONE on December 6, 2023. Previous research has shown that smartphone use among adolescents has increased in recent years, and that this usage may be associated with higher risk of adverse health, such as psychiatric disorders (精神紊乱), sleep issues, and eye-related problems. However, growing evidence suggests that at least some daily internet usage may be associated with better physical and mental health for adolescents. To deepen understanding of the relationship between adolescents ‘use of smartphones and health, Moon, Cha and colleagues analyzed data on more than 50,000 adolescent participants in 2017 and in 2020. The data included the approximate number of daily hours each participant spent on a smartphone as well as various health measures. The researchers found that in 2020, the percentage of adolescents in the study who used a smartphone more than 2 hours per day was 85.7 percent — up from 64.3 percent in 2017. Adolescents who used a smartphone for more than 4 hours per day had higher rates of stress, thoughts of suicide, and substance use than those with usage below 4 hours per day. However, adolescents that used a smartphone 1-2 hours per day encountered fewer problems than adolescents who did not use a smartphone at all. The authors note that this study does not confirm a causal relationship between smartphone use and adverse health outcomes. However, the findings could help inform usage guidelines for adolescents—especially if daily usage continues to rise. 8. What does the underlined word “adverse” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Related. B. Negative. C. Favorable. D. Positive. 9. What can be inferred about the results of the new study? A. Smartphone use is harmful to teenagers. B. A growing number of teenagers use smartphones. C. A proper amount of smartphone use is beneficial. D. The more use of smartphones, the higher risks of men tal health. 10. How did researchers carry out the study? A. By comparing different studies. B. By studying adolescents’ health. C. By analyzing previous information. D. By collecting data from participants. 11. What would be the best title for the text? A. Smartphone use among teenagers on the rise. B. Smartphone use accounting for poor mental health. C. Right smartphone use leading to fewer problems in teenagers. D. Overuse of smartphones linked to mental health risks in teenagers. D Slowing down was the last thing on Elaine Schaefer’s mind when she turned 70 last year. She’d enjoyed an ambitious travel schedule for the previous decade. She didn’t feel too old to travel. Yet many people are asking that slightly embarrassing question: Can you be too old to travel? The travel industry has already responded. Try renting a car in Europe, for example. In Croatia, Schaefer wouldn’t be able to this year, because the maximum age is 70. Insurance companies require higher rates; tour operators limit certain activities. That feels like a “no” for many travelers. Definitely some folks should think twice before traveling, but not only based on their age. It’s their level of fitness, says Kirsten Veldman, a former tour guide who now edits a retirement blog. She recalls a 93-year-old who was disabled and traveling alone on a Caribbean tour, “You can’t expect to ask a tour leader to be there for you 24/7 for medical care.” she says. “Tour guides don’t have the time, skills, and knowledge for it. So, in this case, my advice is: he shouldn’t have traveled with us in this situation.” But some tour operators serve older travelers. For example, Grand Circle Travel started in 1958 to serve senior members. “We have travelers into their 80s and even 90s. Some travel as a couple and some alone,” says company spokeswoman Ann Shannon. “We have no age limit.” If you ask travel experts, they’ll tell you that age is just a number. It’s a question of physical, and to a certain extent, mental ability. “Many of our travelers are retired, focused on keeping their good health, and are experienced travelers who have a good idea of what to expect,” says Sara Baer-Sinnott, president of Oldways, a food and nutrition nonprofit that operates tours. “Someone in their 40s may struggle more than someone in their 80s.” 12. What is Schaefer expected to do if she travels in Croatia this year? A. She can rent a car to go around. B. She will receive 24/7 medical care. C She has to pay more insurance fees. D. She can participate in all the activities. 13. What caused Veldman to disapprove of the 93-year-old’s traveling? A. His old age. B. His stubborn personality. C. His lack of medical skills. D. His poor physical condition. 14. What do we know about Grand Circle Travel? A. It is a non-profit traveling organization. B. It is intended for the senior customers. C. It offers service to a wide range of travelers. D. It has a history of more than seven decades. 15. What is the author’s attitude towards traveling at an old age? A. Objective. B. Favorable. C. She had a quarrel (争吵) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping (哭泣) sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding (责备) from her mother. Having wandered (闲逛) aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand (摊位) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave. The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes… but I don’t have money on me” she replied. “That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,”said the man, “come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears, “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless (无情的) compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?” Jenny sat there, speechless and numb (呆滞的)with shock; she remembered mother’s familiar face and weathered (饱经风霜的) hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted (感激的;蒙恩的), but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.” On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home. Paragraph1: Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2:  A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案1-5CBBCA 6-10BCAAB 11-15CCBAA 16-20CBCAA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 新疆实验中学2024-2025学年第一学期高二年级期末考试 英语试卷(问卷) (卷面分值:150分;考试时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. A. Her architecture was inspired by mathematics B. 4. B 5. C 6. C 7. And she turned her concentration to architecture and went to London where she met the famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.(但在某种程度上,她意识到自己更喜欢形状而不是数字。 根据文章第三段“Despite her abundance of amazing ideas, before the beginning of the 90s, not a single building based on her blueprints had been built. Her highly expressive style, while initially criticized and believed to be crazy, is now regarded as pioneering work.(尽管她有很多令人惊叹的想法,但在90年代初之前,没有一座建筑是根据她的蓝图建造的。 根据文章第四段““Women are always being told, ‘you’re not going to make it; It’s too difficult. You can’t do that Don’t enter this competition; You’ll never win it’,” Hadid said. “They need confidence in themselves and people around them for support.”(“女性总是被告知,‘你不会成功的;太难了。你不能那样做,不要参加这个比赛;你永远也赢不了。”哈迪德说。“她们需要对自己和周围的人有信心,以获得支持。”)”可知,这一段主要讲述了社会对妇女的偏见。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第三段“She became the first woman and first Muslim to earn the award, making a name for herself and paving the way for female architects.(她成为第一位获得该奖项的女性和第一位穆斯林,为自己赢得了声誉,并为女性建筑师铺平了道路)”及最后一段“Hadid may be gone, but her global influence on a new generation of female architects is here to stay.(哈迪德可能已经离开了,但她对新一代女性建筑师的全球影响力将继续存在)”可推知,Hadid留下的最深远的影响在于她的故事鼓励了其他女性建筑师追求自己的梦想。故选D。 C In a new study of more than 50,000 Korean adolescents, those who used a smartphone for more than 4 hours per day had higher rates of adverse mental health and substance use. 8. B 9. C 10. D 11. C. She has to pay more insurance fees. A. Objective. B. Favorable. C. Tolerant. D. Critical. C 13. D 14. C 15. 根据文章第三段“Definitely some folks should think twice before traveling, but not only based on their age. It’s their level of fitness, says Kirsten Veldman, a former tour guide who now edits a retirement blog.(Kirsten Veldman说:“当然,有些人在旅行前应该三思,但不能只看年龄。 根据文章第四段““We have travelers into their 80s and even 90s. Some travel as a couple and some alone,” says company spokeswoman Ann Shannon. “We have no age limit.”(公司发言人Ann Shannon说:“我们有八九十岁的旅行者。 根据文章第三段“Definitely some folks should think twice before traveling, but not only based on their age.(当然,有些人在旅行前应该三思,但不能只看年龄。)”和第五段“If you ask travel experts, they'll tell you that age is just a number.(如果你问旅游专家,他们会告诉你年龄只是一个数字。)” 故选A项。 Creativity is here and there. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. She could hear her own heart beating loudly in her ears. Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for the doorknob. As she entered, she saw her mother sitting in the dimly lit living room. Jenny walked slowly towards her, her steps heavy with guilt. “Mom,” she said softly, “I’m back. I’m so sorry for what I did. I was so blind and ungrateful. You’ve given me so much love and care all these years, and I repaid you with rudeness.” A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. Jenny looked into her mother’s eyes, which were filled with a mixture of relief and love. Her mother cupped her face in her hands and said, “My dear, I was so worried about you. I’m just glad you’re safe.” They hugged each other tightly. Jenny realized that this was the place where she truly belonged, and that her mother’s love was an unbreakable bond. From then on, she made it a point to be more patient and understanding with her mother, knowing that every moment spent with her was a precious gift. Because in the end, it was the love of family that could heal all wounds and make one whole again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:tremble/shiver/shake ②意识到:realize/recognize ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①不感激的:ungrateful/unthankful ②担心的:worried/concerned 【点睛】【高分句型1】Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for the doorknob. 2】Jenny walked slowly towards her, her steps heavy with guilt.
