Talking or texting (发短信) : How should we spend our time?
Do teenagers like using phones more than talking to their friends in person? We interviewed hundreds of teens, and the answers were mixed.
On a smartphone
In person
Pros
Claude: Communicating with people on my smartphone is convenient. I can text them whenever I want. For example, this morning I went to the shop to buy the yogurt for my mother. I took a picture to show her all the different kinds. Then she picked just what she wanted.

People in western countries eat less meat these days because they want to protect animals and keep healthy. And now they have another reason. Eating less meat can help to protect the environment, according to a recent study in nature.
Keeping livestock (家畜) is bad for the environment. When animals like cows digest (消化) food, their stomachs make greenhouse gases. These gases are the main cause of global warming (全球变暖). Seventeen percent of greenhouse gases come from keeping livestock, the New York Times reported. In addition (另外), to keep these livestock, people often cut down forests and turn them into farms. But eating less meat won’t be easy. According to the study, people in western countries will need to eat 90 percent less meat than they do now in order to improve the environment.
Scientists are now trying to find new food to replace meat. And some of them say that insects could be a good choice. They make 75 percent less greenhouse gases than livestock. Some experts (专家) are creating a new kind of meat. They make the meat in a lab. In March, US company JUST said people in the US might be able to buy this kind of meat by the end of this year.
