Usually, there are a lot of school rules for students to follow. However, in New Zealand, there is an unusual school called Deep Green Bush School set up by Moncarz. In this school, there are no lessons, no homework, and no tests. “We don’t do things like telling kids it is time to write or learn. When they get interested in doing it, they do it,” says Moncarz. Now please read on to see what people think of this school.
Wang Qiang, 13, China
The school sounds wonderful, but I don’t think it’s a good idea for students to study in it. The society is developing so fast. If we study at such schools, we may not catch up with others one day.
Jackie Green, 14, England
What a great school! If my parents allow me to study in it, I will definitely go. However, they always tell me that I should follow rules at school and that if I break school rules, they will punish me by making me do housework.
Amy Fisher,12, Canada
I’ll never ever go to study in such schools. We go to school to have knowledge, not to play. And there’s no doubt that my parents won’t allow me to go to schools like Deep Green Bush School.

Margaret Porter is a violinist and music teacher. According to her, the best age to start learning the violin is between three and six. She says, “It’s the time when you are learning about the world.” Margaret, who lives in London, likes to take pupils at three and four. However, she has made lots of exceptions for five-year-olds. She started teaching the violin in 1972 and she taught her children’s five-year-old school friends at first.
Margaret’s pupils have group lessons. Each group has about twelve pupils and each lesson takes an hour, once half a month. Each pupil also has one individual (个人的) lesson a week with her. Parents have to attend the classes. It is important that the parents take an interest in the lessons.
In Margaret’s opinion, it’s important for one to know why music sounds the way it does. Without knowing it, one can’t become a great musician at all. So from the earliest lessons, pupils in her class learn to play by ear. They do not even try to read music until they have been playing for several years. Margaret says that her method is not meant to produce great violinists. She always suggests that pupils who perform very well should leave and study the violin using more traditional methods.
34. Margaret’s first pupils were ________.
A. her friends B. six-year-olds C. her children’s friends
35. How many group lessons do the pupils have a month?
A. 1. B. 2. C. 3.

A. You will have to watch your children learn to play the violin.
B. Learn to play the violin with your children—2 lessons a week.
C. There are group violin lessons for your children no more than 5 in each group.
37. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. When children should learn the violin.
B. What Margaret’s teaching method is.
C. Why it is important to read music.

If you are in America or go to American families to have meals, you should learn some table manners. Here are some tips:
Don’t circle your plate with your arms. If you do so, you will become the focus (焦点) of the table. Everyone would wonder, “Is there anything wrong with the food?” This may give a wrong message that you don’t like the food or something like that.
Don’t push the plate back when finished, leave it where it is. Do you want to let the hostess know that you’ve just done a labor?
Don’t lean (倚靠) back and say “I’m through” or “I’m full”. Just put the knife and fork across the plate. That’s all.
Don’t cut up everything before you start to eat. Cut only one or two bites (块) at a time.
Never take a huge mouthful of anything. Do you want to show how hungry you are? Don’t do that. It’s not so good.
It’s never good to reach across the table for anything. If the thing you want is not at hand, simply ask the nearest person for help, like “Mrs. Smith, could you pass me the dish?”
38. According to the passage, which of the following is WRONG?
A. Push the plate back when finished.
B. Leave the plate where it is when finished.
C. Cut one or two bites before you start to eat.
39. If you circle your plate with your arms at the table, other people will think ________.
A. you want more food B. you don’t like the food C. the food is so good for you
40. If you want a dish far from you, you should ________.
A. leave your seat to get it
B. sit there until others help you
C. ask the nearest person for help
41. Which can be the best title for this passage?
A. How to Behave in America
B. Table Manners in America
C. What You Can Do in America
D
Different weather makes people feel different. It influences health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times, people in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 198 report by scientists, the IQ (智商)of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18℃, people become stronger.
Low air pressure may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. People feel best at a temperature of about 18℃. Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful, or unhappy today? It may be the weather’s problem.
42. What can cause problems in health according to the passage?
A. Very hot and wet weather. B. February or March. C. Low air pressure.
43. A report shows that people may have more intelligence when ________ comes.
A. August B. A very strong wind C. winter
44. What does the writer want to tell us in Paragraph 3?
A. weather influences people’s behavior
B. People feel good on low-pressure days
C. IQ changes when the weather changes
45. What is the basic structure of this passage? (Paragraph 1—①, Paragraph 2—②,…)
A. B. C.

【答案】例文
My Favorite Movie
Zootopia is my favorite movie. It is an animated comedy-adventure film that tells a wonderful story.
The movie is about a young rabbit named Judy Hopps who dreams of becoming a police officer in the big city of Zootopia. There, she meets a clever fox named Nick Wilde. Together, they uncover a big mystery. The film is full of fun and excitement, but it also teaches us important lessons about friendship, perseverance, and believing in ourselves. I love it because it shows that anyone can achieve their dreams, no matter how big or small they are.
Zootopia is not just a movie. It is a story that makes me smile and think.
