You may want a great activity for your younger brothers or sisters to play outside. Here comes an easy DIY course! Let’s learn to make a boat and then play it in a pool! It is so simple that children can easily make one and then have fun. Let’s start now.
Tools
3 corks (软木塞), elastic bands (橡皮筋), colored paper, a stick, glue and scissors
Steps
Choose three corks. Use a stick to make a hole in the middle of a cork. The cork with the hole should be in the middle. Join them together with two elastic bands. Your boat can be better if you glue the corks before that.
Then, cut a sail shape (帆形) and a triangle shape (三角形) out of colored paper. Glue the triangle shape on the top of the stick to make a flag. Make two holes at the top and bottom of the sail shape. Put the stick with the flag through the two holes. Remember to cut away the useless part of the stick so that it will be in the right size. After placing the stick into the hole of the middle cork, the boat is completely done!
Your boat is ready to set sail.

People found out that staying in nature was good for health many years ago. Activities like listening to birdsong and taking a walk in the park are great. While birdwatchers are often thought boring, in fact they always do something right. A new study shows that even half an hour of birdwatching can make us happier, healthier and closer to nature. Hearing birds indoors, through an open window can also make us happier.
Birdwatching can offer even more benefits (益处) than listening to birdsong. It’s also better at bringing happiness than going on a nature walk. So why is birdwatching so good for us? The born love for the natural world could be a big part of it. We should see ourselves as part of nature, so being in nature makes us feel well. But biodiversity(生物多样性)could be a part too. Study shows that biodiversity is a natural medicine to make people happy.
Two groups were once invited to do a study about birdwatching. The first group was to count how many types of birds they had seen. The second was to share their joy when seeing different types of birds. The result showed that the second one got more happiness. So if people believe birdwatching can bring them joy. They can feel even happier in the end.
There’s something more about birdwatching. It can help watchers have the feeling of psychological flow(心流体验). Birdwatchers become fully lost in noticing everything about birds around. This happens naturally and keeps on with full attention. After being “in the flow”, birdwatchers can have a deep sense of happiness.
So, take your binoculars now and step into nature for a pleasant birdwatching trip!
41. What does the underlined word “they” in the first paragraph mean?
A. The studies B. The birdsongs
C. The activities D. The birdwatchers

B. The reasons why birdwatching is good for us.

43. Why does the author talk about the study about biodiversity?
A. To encourage people to protect biodiversity.
B To show the importance of biodiversity in nature.
C. To explain why being in nature makes us feel well.
D. To prove that birdwatching is better than listening to birdsong.
44. What can psychological flow bring to birdwatchers?
A. Habits of full attention.
B. Deep sense of happiness.

Having a teenager at home can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, wear strange hairstyle and even fight. In a word, they often do something terrible.
Earlier studies have shown that teenagers make crazy decisions more easily than people from any other age group, like children and grown-ups. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong? Not really. So what’s the reason?
According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers like them— that is “peer influence (同伴影响)”. As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and they also care more about how they like them. As a result, teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs.
In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game by Laurence. When they played with their friends watching around them, they drove more carelessly because they would have more chances to win in this way. But when they played alone, they drove more safely.
Why do peers have such a big influence on teens’ action?
As Laurence sees it, a teenager’s brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed (发展) by teenage years while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is possible that they are going to end up in an accident.
But the good news is that about 75 percent of teenagers will become better and better in the future. They will be calmer and think twice before making decisions when they grow up.
