The sky was starting to turn dark. Malik and his father were worried because they got lost in the
forest. It was their first time passing through the wild area far from the county at such a late hour.
Again, Malik’s father stopped and took out a map and a compass (指南针) from his bag. It was
hard to see in the dark, so Malik took out his flashlight and shone it on the map. After making sure
which direction to go, they felt calm. When Malik’s father took his first step, he lost his balance and
fell off the edge (边沿) of the road. “Dad!” Malik cried out. Luckily, his father held on a tree with
his other hand. Although Malik’s father was fine except for some tiny cuts, he lost the map and the
compass. That made it difficult for them to find their way out. They were not sure about the direction
they should go.
Malik and his father had no choice but to put up a tent near a river to spend the night. When
night fell, the stars came out, lighting the whole sky. It was at that moment that an idea came to
Malik’s mind. As a member of the Astronomy (天文学 ) Club at school, Malik was able to tell
different groups of stars in the sky. “If we could find the North Star, we could find out which
direction is North,” Malik suggested excitedly. After Malik found it successfully, they made their
way out of the forest. In an hour, they arrived at their destination (目的地).
Malik’s knowledge of science made them not have to spend the night in the forest.

ChatGPT, a new chatbot model developed by Open AI, has quickly become a hit all over the
world because of its powerful conversational abilities. It can write e-mails, computer codes (代码),
songs, poems, and even short stories, and has passed a number of tests within seconds.
Experts around the world are discussing whether AI should be used in education. Some schools
have banned it. The New York City’s Department of Education, for example, kept ChatGPT away
from its public school networks, and some people are warning that it could make more students
cheat, especially in exams. Many more welcome this app, saying that, like most technologies in
history, ChatGPT is a powerful tool for the development of education.
Accepting AI as early as possible is a good choice. Schools should make preparations for
including AI in their teaching plans. They can start by offering AI courses, because by understanding
how it works, they can make better use of it. Besides, students with good knowledge of AI are more
competitive when it comes to getting a job, as an increasing number of jobs are being done by
computer programs. AI powered education technologies can be used to make the learning experience
more suitable for each student. As for teachers, AI can free them from doing some boring work so
they can focus on their teaching.
第 6 页 共 10 页
Since we cannot avoid ChatGPT and other AI powered apps from entering the field of
education, we should make efforts to make sure they have a positive influnce on society and the
future of education. AI helps to make learning much more interesting and enjoyable, but humans
need to work very hard to win the race with technology.

34. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The ways how AI should be used in education.
B. The reasons why AI should be used in education.
C. The opinions whether AI should be used in education.
35. What is the writer’s attitude (态度) towards ChatGPT?
A. Dout. B. Support. C. Disagree.
36. What can be inferred(推断) from the last paragraph?
A. AI apps still have a long way to go.
B. Humans will be left behind by technology.
C. AI must be made good use of in education.

Do you know which social app Chinese young people use a lot now? 37 Some users use
TikTok (抖音) and Kuaishou. They think it is fun to share short videos about their lives, while others
have other purposes as well.
A 12-year-old user named Elsa has about 2.7 million fans on TikTok. The girl has shared videos
about her dancing studies since last July. 38 “I feel really glad to share happiness with
people by short videos,” said Elsa.
As some videos are about the latest news, a group of users depend on them to get information.
39 “Because I can’t spend many hours watching a whole video and I’m not a very patient person,
I don’t like waiting for a program to end. I prefer to watch short videos of wonderful parts in
programs, and then I can get some information quickly,” said Wang Zhihao.
40 “Killing time is the main reason for me to watch the short videos, but many are almost
the same, so I think it is a waste of time. What’s more, I really don’t like the videos which show
strange even dangerous things,” said Wen Nan, another college student.
Recently, something else has happened. Some videos are telling people what products are worth
buying. But after they buy the products, they may regret soon. So they should think twice. Some
short videos even sell bad products, but these sellers won’t let you get your money back.

In order to improve students’ health and reduce students’ pressure, our country made some rules.
Here are some of them.
Firstly, homework for middle school students should take no more than 90 minutes. They can
finish most of written homework at school so that after school they only spend a little time finishing
the rest. Some students can still go to sleep on time even though they don’t finish their homework
until bedtime. Then they will have more time to relax. Secondly, mobile phones mustn’t be brought
to class because students are easily absent-minded (心不在焉的) from the lesson. Students must
control the time on electronic products to protect their eyesight. They shouldn’t lose themselves in
the Internet. Thirdly, students are expected to listen carefully and go over lessons in time so that they
can master the right methods of learning. Fourthly, parents should often communicate with their
children, pay attention to their feelings and help them develop good learning and life habits.
